  • libiconv - iconv_open() default behavior?

    - by DooriBar
    According to the documentation of iconv_open() over: http://www.gnu.org/software/libiconv/documentation/libiconv/iconv_open.3.html "//TRANSLIT" means that when a character cannot be represented in the target character set, it can be approximated through one or several characters. and: "//IGNORE" means that characters that cannot be represented in the target character set will be silently discarded. But what is the default behavior, when neither are specified? Thanks, Doori Bar

  • How to parse a string to an integer without library functions?

    - by dack
    Hi, I was recently asked this question in an interview: "How could you parse a string of the form '12345' into its integer representation 12345 without using any library functions, and regardless of language?" I thought of two answers, but the interviewer said there was a third. Here are my two solutions: Solution 1: Keep a dictionary which maps '1' = 1, '2' = 2, etc. Then parse the string one character at a time, look up the character in your dictionary, and multiply by place value. Sum the results. Solution 2: Parse the string one character at a time and subtract '0' from each character. This will give you '1' - '0' = 0x1, '2' - '0' = 0x2, etc. Again, multiply by place value and sum the results. Can anyone think of what a third solution might be? Thanks.

  • cellForRowAtIndexPath not called for all sections

    - by Wynn
    I have a UITableView that has five sections. Just as the title describes cellForRowAtIndexPath is only being called for the first four. All connections have been made concerning the datasource and delegate. Also, my numberOfSectionsInTableView clearly returns 5. Printing out the number of sections from within cellForRowAtIndexPath shows the correct number, thus confirming that cellForRowAtIndexPath is simply not being called for all sections. What on earth is going on? I looked pretty hard for an answer to this question but could't find one. If this has already been answered please forgive me and point me in the correct direction. My cellForRowAtIndexPath: - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)theTableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [theTableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; } switch (indexPath.section) { case 0: cell.textLabel.text = ticket.description; break; case 1: cell.textLabel.text = ticket.ticketStatus; break; case 2: cell.textLabel.text = ticket.priority; break; case 3: cell.textLabel.text = ticket.customerOfficePhone; break; case 4: { //This never ever gets executed Comment *comment = [ticket.comments objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; cell.textLabel.text = comment.commentContent; break; } } return cell; } My numberOfSectionsInTableView: - (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView { return 5; } My numberOfRowsInSection: - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section { NSInteger numberOfRows; if (section == 4) { numberOfRows = [ticket.comments count]; } else { numberOfRows = 1; } return numberOfRows; } Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • Is it a good idea to define a variable in a local block for a case of a switch statement?

    - by Paperflyer
    I have a rather long switch-case statement. Some of the cases are really short and trivial. A few are longer and need some variables that are never used anywhere else, like this: switch (action) { case kSimpleAction: // Do something simple break; case kComplexAction: { int specialVariable = 5; // Do something complex with specialVariable } break; } The alternative would be to declare that variable before going into the switch like this: int specialVariable = 5; switch (action) { case kSimpleAction: // Do something simple break; case kComplexAction: // Do something complex with specialVariable break; } This can get rather confusing since it is not clear to which case the variable belongs and it uses some unnecessary memory. However, I have never seen this usage anywhere else. Do you think it is a good idea to declare variables locally in a block for a single case?

  • For improving the join of two wave files

    - by kaki
    i want to get the values of the last 30 frames of the first wav file and first thirty frames of the second wave file in integer format and stored in a list or array. i have written the code for joining but during this manupalation i am getting in byte format and tried to convert it to integer but couldn't. as told before i want to get the frame detail of 1st 30 and last 30 in integer format,and by performing other operations join can be more successful looking for your help in this,please... thanking you, import wave m=['C:/begpython/S0001_0002.wav', 'C:/begpython/S0001_0001.wav'] i=1 a=m[i] infiles = [a] outfile = "C:/begpython/S0001_00367.wav" data= [] data1=[] for infile in infiles: w = wave.open(infile, 'rb') data1=[w.getnframes] #print w.readframes(100) data.append( [w.getparams(), w.readframes(w.getnframes())] ) #print w.readframes(1) #data1 = [ord(character) for character in data1] #print data1 #data1 = ''.join(chr(character) for character in data1) w.close() print data output = wave.open(outfile, 'wb') output.setparams(data[0][0]) output.writeframes(data[0][1]) output.writeframes(data[1][1]) output.writeframes(data[2][1]) output.close()

  • c# Column datatype Date type (NOT DateTime)

    - by Sha Le
    Hi All: I want know is there good way to detect Column DataType for Date field (NOT DateTime)? This what currently I do: switch (dt.Columns[col].DataType.FullName) { case "System.DateTime": formatedVal = Formatter.GetDateTime(val); break; // which is NOT possible, but something equivalent am looking for case "System.Date": formatedVal = Formatter.GetDate(val); break; default: formatedVal = val.ToString(); break; } Thanks a bunch. :-)

  • MySQL update error when special characters are used

    - by Katy
    Hi All, I was wondering if anyone had come across this one before. I have a customer who uses special characters in their product description field. Updating to a MySQL database works fine if we use their HTML equivalents but it fails if the character itself is used (copied from either character map or Word I would assume). Has anyone seen this behaviour before? The character in question in this case is ø - and we can't seem to do a replace on it (in ASP at least) as the character comes though to the SQL string as a "?". Any suggestions much appreciated - thanks!

  • What does plus sign does here in string?

    - by Thanga
    I would like to know, what is the difference between two statements, these may be simple String ss="myname"; char[] charArray = ss.toCharArray(); for ( char character : charArray ) { System.out.println( +character );//Statements are here what does plus refers here: System.out.println( character ); //Statements are here: } I got the output for the code no errors but little doubt on how it works? What happens here? If you would down vote let me know the reason please , Thanks in advance

  • How do debug header file implemetation (its .cpp) in c++ using GDB

    - by zengr
    Hi, I have these 3 file in my program: sample1.h (method in sample1.cpp are defined here) sample1.cpp (all the actual implementations) demo.cpp (I am using the methods in sampe1.cpp here, and have included sample1.h) Now, I am using GDB to debug and I know the basic commands like "break lineno." or "break methodname". But, how do I debug the methods written in sample1.cpp? I tried: break "sample1.cpp:mymethod" but it did not work. Thanks

  • Very different IO performance in C/C++

    - by Roberto Tirabassi
    Hi all, I'm a new user and my english is not so good so I hope to be clear. We're facing a performance problem using large files (1GB or more) expecially (as it seems) when you try to grow them in size. Anyway... to verify our sensations we tryed the following (on Win 7 64Bit, 4core, 8GB Ram, 32 bit code compiled with VC2008) a) Open an unexisting file. Write it from the beginning up to 1Gb in 1Mb slots. Now you have a 1Gb file. Now randomize 10000 positions within that file, seek to that position and write 50 bytes in each position, no matter what you write. Close the file and look at the results. Time to create the file is quite fast (about 0.3"), time to write 10000 times is fast all the same (about 0.03"). Very good, this is the beginnig. Now try something else... b) Open an unexisting file, seek to 1Gb-1byte and write just 1 byte. Now you have another 1Gb file. Follow the next steps exactly same way of case 'a', close the file and look at the results. Time to create the file is the faster you can imagine (about 0.00009") but write time is something you can't believe.... about 90"!!!!! b.1) Open an unexisting file, don't write any byte. Act as before, ramdomizing, seeking and writing, close the file and look at the result. Time to write is long all the same: about 90"!!!!! Ok... this is quite amazing. But there's more! c) Open again the file you crated in case 'a', don't truncate it... randomize again 10000 positions and act as before. You're fast as before, about 0,03" to write 10000 times. This sounds Ok... try another step. d) Now open the file you created in case 'b', don't truncate it... randomize again 10000 positions and act as before. You're slow again and again, but the time is reduced to... 45"!! Maybe, trying again, the time will reduce. I actually wonder why... Any Idea? The following is part of the code I used to test what I told in previuos cases (you'll have to change someting in order to have a clean compilation, I just cut & paste from some source code, sorry). The sample can read and write, in random, ordered or reverse ordered mode, but write only in random order is the clearest test. We tryed using std::fstream but also using directly CreateFile(), WriteFile() and so on the results are the same (even if std::fstream is actually a little slower). Parameters for case 'a' = -f_tempdir_\casea.dat -n10000 -t -p -w Parameters for case 'b' = -f_tempdir_\caseb.dat -n10000 -t -v -w Parameters for case 'b.1' = -f_tempdir_\caseb.dat -n10000 -t -w Parameters for case 'c' = -f_tempdir_\casea.dat -n10000 -w Parameters for case 'd' = -f_tempdir_\caseb.dat -n10000 -w Run the test (and even others) and see... // iotest.cpp : Defines the entry point for the console application. // #include <windows.h> #include <iostream> #include <set> #include <vector> #include "stdafx.h" double RealTime_Microsecs() { LARGE_INTEGER fr = {0, 0}; • Problems in Binary Search Tree

    - by user2782324
    This is my first ever trial at implementing the BST, and I am unable to get it done. Please help The problem is that When I delete the node if the node is in the right subtree from the root or if its a right child in the left subtree, then it works fine. But if the node is in the left subtree from root and its any left child, then it does not get deleted. Can someone show me what mistake am I doing?? the markedNode here gets allocated to the parent node of the node to be deleted. the minValueNode here gets allocated to a node whose left value child is the smallest value and it will be used to replace the value to be deleted. package DataStructures; • UIPageViewController blanking page

    - by CrazyEoin
    I've been trying to use the UIPageViewController to display 3 different nibs for a few days on and off now and have almost got it working. I still have one weird bug that I cant figure out. Basically the app starts, I can scroll between the 3 pages one after another with out any problems, eg: Page1-Page2-Page3 and then back to the start: Page3-Page2-Page1. No Problems. The issue is that if I scroll, for example from Page3-Page2, then BACK to Page3, Page3 Dissappears when it snaps into place. If I scroll to where a forth page would be, then I get Page3. Here is the code relevant to the UIPageViewController, the nibs and the delegate methods for the UIPageViewController: - (void)viewDidLoad{ [super viewDidLoad]; // Do any additional setup after loading the view, typically from a nib. self.pageViewController = [[UIPageViewController alloc] initWithTransitionStyle:UIPageViewControllerTransitionStyleScroll navigationOrientation:UIPageViewControllerNavigationOrientationHorizontal options:nil]; self.pageViewController.delegate = self; [[self.pageViewController view] setFrame:[[self view] bounds]]; indexTest = 0; Page1 *p1 = [[Page1 alloc]initWithNibName:@"Page1" bundle:nil]; p1.view.tag = 1; Page2 *p2 = [[Page2 alloc]initWithNibName:@"Page2" bundle:nil]; p2.view.tag = 2; Page3 *p3 = [[Page3 alloc]initWithNibName:@"Page3" bundle:nil]; p3.view.tag = 3; NSArray *arr = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:p1,nil]; viewControllers = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithObjects:p1,p2,p3, nil]; [self.pageViewController setViewControllers:arr direction:UIPageViewControllerNavigationDirectionForward animated:NO completion:nil]; self.pageViewController.dataSource = self; [self addChildViewController:self.pageViewController]; [[self view] addSubview:[self.pageViewController view]]; [self.pageViewController didMoveToParentViewController:self]; self.view.gestureRecognizers = self.pageViewController.gestureRecognizers; } #pragma mark - page view controller stuff - (UIViewController *)pageViewController:(UIPageViewController *)pageViewController viewControllerBeforeViewController:(UIViewController *)viewController { if (indexTest > 0) { switch (indexTest) { case 1:{ NSLog(@"NO page is BEFORE current page"); break; } case 2:{ NSLog(@"Page BEFORE is Page: %@", [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@",[viewControllers objectAtIndex:0] ] ); indexTest--; return [viewControllers objectAtIndex:0]; break; } default:{ NSLog(@"PROBLEM in viewBEFORE, indexTest = %d!!!!", indexTest); break; } } } return nil; } - (UIViewController *)pageViewController:(UIPageViewController *)pageViewController viewControllerAfterViewController:(UIViewController *)viewController { if (indexTest < NUM_OF_PAGES) { switch (indexTest) { case 0:{ NSLog(@"Page AFTER is Page: %@", [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@",[viewControllers objectAtIndex:1] ] ); indexTest++; return [viewControllers objectAtIndex:1]; break; } case 1:{ NSLog(@"Page AFTER is Page: %@", [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@",[viewControllers objectAtIndex:2] ] ); indexTest++; return [viewControllers objectAtIndex:2]; break; } case 2:{ NSLog(@"No pages AFTER this current page %d", indexTest); break; } default:{ NSLog(@"PROBLEM in viewAFTER, indexTest = %d!!!!", indexTest); break; } } } return nil; } Finally the page index dots code #pragma mark - dot controller - (NSInteger)presentationCountForPageViewController:(UIPageViewController *)pageViewController { // The number of items reflected in the page indicator. return NUM_OF_PAGES; } - (NSInteger)presentationIndexForPageViewController:(UIPageViewController *)pageViewController { // The selected item reflected in the page indicator. return 0; } Any and all help is much appreciated, I think I'm just doing something silly that I cant see as I'm so close to it fully working. If anythings not clear or I haven't give enough information please let me know and I'll answer it as best as I can. Thanks

  • Is it bad OOP practice to have objects reference each other?

    - by lala
    Pardon my noobness. I'm making a game in which several characters have relationships with each other and they need to be able to interact with each other and store some relationship data regarding how they feel about each other. I have an object for each character. Is it bad for each of those character objects to have an array of all the other character objects in order to perform these interactions? Is there a better way to do this?

  • How to find "\r" in a conditional?

    - by Werner
    Hi, in a C++ program some string reads info from file, and in some part contains a "\r" character. I need to remove it, afte the read, in order to avoid problems. I thought about comparing strings character to character, I thought that "\r" would take two chars, but not, it is just one. how would i use a conditional ? if char[4]==`\r' ??? Thanks P.D. How would the problem be solved in C?

  • (UNITY3D) Get slerp to work just as LookAt(,Vector3.right) does

    - by Ben Rokah
    Ive been working over a sidescroller shooter game. Ive got my sidescroller shooter character to look around with these : chest.LookAt(mousepos,Vector3.right); & chest.LookAt(mousepos,Vector3.left); (Left when the character is turned to the left and right when the character is turned to the right) so it wont aim in to any other axis... But when the mouse gets to cross the middle of the character and not around it it gets the rotation to make a small transportation between frames and it wont get all the way to there.. It'll just teleport to its correct rotation like lookat should. Well the question is, how do I get any quaternion slerp which works with a Time.deltTime to work as same as LookAt(,Vector3.right)? I must have the Vector3.right and left so it'll move trough 1 axis. Many thanks to anyone who helps me out. :)

  • C Program not running as intended, hangs after input

    - by user41419
    The program I am writing to take a number and display that number as a calculator would display it (shown below) is compiling with no issues, but when I try to run it, I am able to input my number, but nothing happens. It seems like it is "hanging", since no further output is shown as I would have expected. Might anyone know what the problem is? #include <stdio.h> #define MAX_DIGITS 20 char segments[10][7] = /* seven segment array */ {{'1','1','1','1','1','1','0'}, /* zero */ {'0','1','1','0','0','0','0'}, /* one */ {'1','1','0','1','1','0','1'}, /* two */ {'1','1','1','1','0','0','1'}, /* three */ {'0','1','1','0','0','1','1'}, /* four */ {'1','0','1','1','0','1','1'}, /* five */ {'1','0','1','1','1','1','1'}, /* six */ {'1','1','1','0','0','0','0'}, /* seven */ {'1','1','1','1','1','1','1'}, /* eight */ {'1','1','1','0','0','1','1'}};/* nine */ char digits[3][MAX_DIGITS * 4]; /* digits array */ int i, j; /* count variables */ int adjust; /* output formatting */ int main(void) { clear_digits_array(); int digit[20]; for (i = 0; i < 20; i++) { digit[i] = 0; } int count = 20; int position = 0; printf("Enter a number: "); int number = scanf("%d%d%d%d%d%d%d%d%d%d%d%d%d%d%d%d%d%d%d%d", &digit[0], &digit[1], &digit[2], &digit[3], &digit[4], &digit[5], &digit[6], &digit[7], &digit[8], &digit[9], &digit[10], &digit[11], &digit[12], &digit[13], &digit[14], &digit[15], &digit[16], &digit[17], &digit[18], &digit[19]); //NOTHING HAPPENS AFTER HERE printf("Got input, number is %d", number); while (count > 0) { printf("Reading digits, count is %d", count); process_digit(digit[20 - count], position); position++; count--; } print_digits_array(); printf("\n"); return 0; } void clear_digits_array(void) { /* fill all positions in digits array with blank spaces */ for (i = 0; i < 3; i++) { for (j = 0; j < (MAX_DIGITS * 4); j++) { digits[i][j] = ' '; } } } void process_digit(int digit, int position) { /* check each segment to see if segment should be filled in for given digit */ for (i = 0; i < 7; i++) { printf("Processing digit %d at position %d, i is %d", digit, position, i); if (segments[digit][i] == 1) { switch (i) { case 0: digits[0][(position * 4) + 1] = '_'; break; case 1: digits[1][(position * 4) + 2] = '|'; break; case 2: digits[2][(position * 4) + 2] = '|'; break; case 3: digits[2][(position * 4) + 1] = '_'; break; case 4: digits[2][(position * 4) + 0] = '|'; break; case 5: digits[1][(position * 4) + 0] = '|'; break; case 6: digits[1][(position * 4) + 1] = '_'; break; } } } } void print_digits_array(void) { /* print each character in digits array */ for (i = 0; i < 3; i++) { for (j = 0; j < (MAX_DIGITS * 4); j++) { printf("%c", digits[i][j]); } printf("/n"); } }

  • Android - How to circular zoom/magnify part of image?

    - by IZI_Shadow_IZI
    I am trying to allow the user to touch the image and then basically a cirular magnifier will show that will allow the user to better select a certain area on the image. When the user releases the touch the magnified portion will dissapear. This is used on several photo editing apps and I am trying to implement my own version of it. The code I have below does magnify a circular portion of the imageview but does not delete or clear the zoom once I release my finger. I currently set a bitmap to a canvas using canvas = new Canvas(bitMap); and then set the imageview using takenPhoto.setImageBitmap(bitMap); I am not sure if I am going about it the right way. The onTouch code is below: zoomPos = new PointF(0,0); takenPhoto.setOnTouchListener(new OnTouchListener() { @Override public boolean onTouch(View v, MotionEvent event) { int action = event.getAction(); switch (action) { case MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN: zoomPos.x = event.getX(); zoomPos.y = event.getY(); matrix.reset(); matrix.postScale(2f, 2f, zoomPos.x, zoomPos.y); shader.setLocalMatrix(matrix); canvas.drawCircle(zoomPos.x, zoomPos.y, 20, shaderPaint); takenPhoto.invalidate(); break; case MotionEvent.ACTION_MOVE: zoomPos.x = event.getX(); zoomPos.y = event.getY(); matrix.reset(); matrix.postScale(2f, 2f, zoomPos.x, zoomPos.y); canvas.drawCircle(zoomPos.x, zoomPos.y, 20, shaderPaint); takenPhoto.invalidate(); break; case MotionEvent.ACTION_UP: //clear zoom here? break; case MotionEvent.ACTION_CANCEL: break; default: break; } return true; } });

  • How to save enum settings in Visual Studio project properties?

    - by zaidwaqi
    Hi, In the Settings tab in Visual Studio, I can see Name, Type, Scope, Value table. Define settings is intuitive if the data type is already within the Type drop-down list i.e. integer, string, long etc. But I can't find enum anywhere. How do I save enum settings then? For now, I have the following which clutter my code too much. public enum Action { LOCK = 9, FORCED_LOGOFF = 12, SHUTDOWN = 14, REBOOT, LOGOFF = FORCED_LOGOFF }; and I define Action as int in the setting. Then I have to do, switch (Properties.Settings.Default.Action) { case 9: SetAction(Action.LOCK); break; case 12: SetAction(Action.FORCED_LOGOFF); break; case 14: SetAction(Action.SHUTDOWN); break; case 15: SetAction(Action.REBOOT); break; default: SetAction(Action.LOCK); break; } Would be nice if I could simply do something like SetAction(Properties.Settings.Default.Action); to replace all above but I dont know how to save enum in setting. Hope my question is clear. Thanks.

  • GWT : Composite not displaying

    - by animatrix30
    I have a this code for the layout : grid = new Grid(15, 15); tiles = new Tile[15][15]; for (int i = 0; i != 15; i++) { for (int j = 0; j != 15; j++) { tiles[i][j] = new Tile('a'); grid.setWidget(i, j, tiles[i][j]); tiles[i][j].setVisible(true); } } initWidget(grid); I know it is working, because if I change the tile, by a Button, it works well. Now my Tile class : public class Tile extends Composite { char character; public Tile (Character c) { this.character = c; buildWidget(); } private void buildWidget() { Label l = new Label(this.character+""); initWidget(l); } Why does all tiles are not displayed ? Thanks for your help !

  • fgets equilvilant in C++

    - by mitchell
    what is the C++ equivilant to the c function fgets? I have looked at getline from ifstream, but when it comes to a end of line character, '\n', it terminates at and discards it, I am looking for a function that just terminates at the end line character but adds the end of line character to the char array. thanks in advance
