• JAX-WS returning a complex object?

  Hi, Im pretty new to Java Web Services, but I cant find a good explanation anywhere. I have 2 Java web projects within NetBeans. One as a web service and one as a client for that web service. I have also created my own class called "Person", which has what you'd expect: name, dob, etc. I would like to have a web service method called "ListPeople()" that would return an array of "Person" objects. Do I need to have that class in both projects? Should I be serializing the object first? Should I be using JAXB, if so, where do I start? Sorry for the n00b questions, but im confused. What is the normal way of accomplishing this? Thanks in advance

• Editable block: CMS or PHP script?

  I'm designing a Website for a restaurant. The site will be fairly static except for a 'specials' block which the client will need to update on a daily basis. I'm more of a designer/front-end developer so I was wondering if I was better off trying to make a block editable in PHP (a language I hardly ever deal with) or just create the website in a user-friendly CMS such as Wordpress (which I have some experience with) or Expression Engine (which I have no experience with but I'm told is a favorite in the design community)... certainly not Drupal, because even though I have theming experience with it, I think it would be a little overkill for just one editable block in a five-page site. I'm leaning towards an easy to use CMS because I'm really just not comfortable writing my own PHP especially since I guess a PHP solution would also require an authentication solution so only the client could get in to edit their info. Any insight would be appreciated!

  I use TempData and ViewData to display messages for an asp mvc application. They are part of the Site Master. For some reason, neither TempData or ViewData are showing any information. They do work as expected in the development environment but not in production. Any ideas of what setting I need to be looking at? • Help with complex sql query

  To make story short, i'm building self-learning banner management system. Users will be able to insert these banners to their site when banners will be shown based on sales/impressions ratio. I have 4 tables Banners bannerID int bannerImage varchar.... SmartBanners smartBannerID int smartBannerArrayID int bannerID int impressionsCount int visibility tinyint (percents) SmartBannerArrays smartBannerArrayID int userID int Statistics bannerID int saleAmountPerDay decimal... Each night i need to generate new "visibility" for each SmartBanner based on whole SmartBannerArray that same user has. So i need to get sum of impressions and sales for each bannerID in SmartBannerArray. All comes to my mind is to use double cursor, one will loop thought SmartBannerArrays get needed values for sum of impressions and sales and then inner loop which will access each SmartBanner and change it's "visibility" percentage based on (sales/impressions)/(sumOfSales/sumOfImpressions)*100 Hope you get the picture... Is there any other way to design better tables or not to use double cursor to avoid server overload ?

• IE8 Inconsistent Rendering when Reloading

  I am working on fixing a website that doesn't work in the new release of IE8. After a bit I found out that you can force IE8 to render as IE7 with the following meta tag: <!-- Meta tag for IE8 so that it always displays the site in IE7 Compatibility mode --> <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" /> I have found that although the page loads fine when you specify this meta-tag; However, when you click or press the refresh button after the initial load of the page, the page renders completely wrong (see bellow): This really seems like an IE8 bug to me, as I've never seen any other browser render inconstantly on a page refresh. As anyone else noticed this? Update! This was cause by having CompanionJS installed in IE8.

• Polish: Rendering of an empty menubar

  Hi, I've recently upgraded Polish from 2.0.7 to 2.4.2, which causes a problem with the extended toolbar. Before everything works fine.   We need to render an ActionResult to a string to add pages to our internal search engine index. We settled on this solution to render to string. I've run into a problem with the ExecuteResult call used to process the View. • Best practices for managing updating a database with a complex set of changes

  I am writing an application where I have some publicly available information in a database which I want the users to be able to edit. The information is not textual like a wiki but is similar in concept because the edits bring the public information increasingly closer to the truth. The changes will affect multiple tables and the update needs to be automatically checked before affecting the public tables. I'm working on the design and I'm wondering if there are any best practices that might help with some particular issues. I want to provide undo capability. I want to show the user the combined result of all their changes. When the user says they're done, I need to check the underlying public data to make sure it hasn't been changed by somebody else. My current plan is to have the user work in a set of tables setup to be a private working area. Once they're ready they can kick off a process to check everything and update the public tables. Undo can be recorded using Command pattern saving to a table. Are there any techniques I might have missed or useful papers or patterns? Thanks in advance!

  Lets say I have this class (simplified): class Tag (...): children = models.ManyToManyField(null=True, symmetrical=False) Now I already implemented the functions get_parents, get_all_ancestors. Is there a nice pythonic way to just the top level tags? If I had designed my Tags differently (to point to the parents instead) I would just make get_all_parents().filter(children=null). My first thought is to create a new function that will go recursively through all parents and save those that has none. But is there a possibility with filters or Query-objects to do the same (with fewer lines of code)? Thanks for your help. [edit] When it is finished, it should be a hierarchical tagging system. Each tag can have children, parents, but only the children are saved. I want to get all the top level tags, that point through many children / childrens children to my tag.

  I've got a C# form, with various controls on it. The form controls an ongoing process, and there are many, many aspects that need to be right for the program to run correctly. Each part can be unit tested (for instance, loading some coefficients, drawing some diagnostics) but I often run into problems that are best described with an example: "If I click here, then here, then change this, then re-open the form, then click here, it crashes or produces an error" I've tried my best to use common code organisational ideas (inheritance, DRY, separation of concerns) but there never seems to be a way to test every single path, and inevitably, a form with several controls will have a huge number of ways to execute. What can I read (preferably online) that addresses this kind of issue, and is there a (non-generic) term for it. This isn't a specific problem I'm having, but one that creeps up on me, especially with WinForms.

• More complex view matrix calculation required to composite 3d models with 2d video

  I'm utilising some 2d / 3d tracking data (provided by pfHoe) to help integrate some 3d models into the playback of some 2d video. Things are working.... okay... but there's still some visible 'slipping' of the models against the video background and I suspect this is may be because the XNA CreatePerspective helper method isn't taking into account some of the additional data supplied by pfHoe such as independent horizontal / vertical field of view angles and focal length. Would anyone be able to point me towards some examples of constructing view matrices that include such details?

  I have to draw a small finite state machine that has some reflexive transitions (meaning the start and the end state of the transition are equal. • Complex relationship between tables in NHibernate

  Hi all, I'm writing a Fluent NHibernate mapping for a legacy Oracle database. The challenge is that the tables have composite primary keys. If I were at total freedom, I would redesign the relationships and auto-generate primary keys, but other applications must write to the same database and read from it, so I cannot do it. These are the two tables I'll focus on: Example data Trips table: 1, 10:00, 11:00 ... 1, 12:00, 15:00 ... 1, 16:00, 19:00 ... 2, 12:00, 13:00 ... 3, 9:00, 18:00 ... Faults table: 1, 13:00 ... 1, 23:00 ... 2, 12:30 ... In this case, vehicle 1 made three trips and has two faults. The first fault happened during the second trip, and the second fault happened while the vehicle was resting. Vehicle 2 had one trip, during which a fault happened. Constraints Trips of the same vehicle never overlap. So the tables have an optional one-to-many relationship, because every fault either happens during a trip or it doesn't. If I wanted to join them in SQL, I would write: select ... from Faults left outer join Trips on Faults.VehicleId = Trips.VehicleId and Faults.FaultTime between Trips.TripStartTime and Trips.TripEndTime and then I'd get a dataset where every fault appears exactly once (one-to-many as I said). Note that there is no Vehicles table, and I don't need one. But I did create a view that contains all VehicleIds from both tables, so I can use it as a junction table. What am I actually looking for? The tables are huge because they cover years of data, and every time I only need to fetch a range of a few hours. So I need a mapping and a criteria that will run something like the following SQL underneath: select ... from Faults left outer join Trips on Faults.VehicleId = Trips.VehicleId and Faults.FaultTime between Trips.TripStartTime and Trips.TripEndTime where Faults.FaultTime between :p0 and :p1 Do you have any ideas how to achieve it? Note 1: Currently the application shouldn't write to the database, so persistence is not a must, although if the mapping supports persistence, it may help at some point in the future. • Image rendering on browser or temporary images?

  I'm trying to make a statistics page where it will show several data and charts. The charts need to be pictures so that the user can save it/drag-and-drop to his/her personal reports. I'm using Gruff Graphs for Ruby to produce the charts but I don't know the best way to display the results safe and protected. Some of my ideas/tries are: save the chart to a file (jpg, png)? problem: data is available to anyone (don't have access to cron, to delete data from time to time) render in the browser (has to work on IE)? Use javascript (Raphaël—JavaScript Library) or Google API and output a PDF report (need plugin or gem, right)? use send_data? i've tried to output other way than inline, because I needs to show other data, is it possible?
