  • New Windows 2008 server on Linux Domain

    We just installed a Windows 2008 Enterprise server and I'm having a problem joining the domain. We're running Ubuntu Server, OpenLdap with Samba shares. Does anyone know of reference material where I can find information about getting this server to properly join our domain. I've tried googling various boolean searches with poor results.

    I am trying to share a domain share so only a specific machine with a specific user can connect. I have tried all the normal ways of actually adding the computer to the domain and then using its unc to map a user but to no avail. Is this possible? How do you do this?

    Hi so i was doing some research in the library so i could use some pictures later on my Desktop computer in my room. I have space on my Lab account which i usually SSH into, and i was wondering if URL's can be directly transferred over to a remote machine and saved on the hard disk. I was thinking something like this: scp http://click.si.edu/images/truncatedurl.jpg /home3/etc.../filename.jpg is this possible? Thanks in advance.

    Can I configure my domain, example.com's name servers as: ns1.dyndns.com ns2.dyndns.com ns1.opendns.com ns2.opendns.com That is, combining free dns services to create a redundant name server array? Note these name servers from different companies are not aware other companies' name servers also serve our domain. In case one company, say, ns1(2).dyndns.com is down, will people experience interruption when visiting my example.com? If one name server is unreachable, the next name server will be tried, or?

But we want to know what general traffic for all clients of our app. So we want to know stuff like "among all our clients we had x number of views."   • setup test domain ready for site launch

    I'm about to launch a site on a live server, after developing it with xampp on localhost. I first want to test the site before i make it live. How do i setup this up so I have it in a subdomain (i.e. test.livesite.com)? Is it just set it up on the server and only add the cname dns setting? Or is there a better way? All i am trying to do is add my site to the server, so i can edit it and look at it before I set it as live.

  • Uploading many large files to a remote server

    I am in the process of creating an offsite backup, and need to do a initial load of data. Currently, that's about 400Gb, give or take 10Gb or so... The backup system is producing files which are about 4Gb each, and has some other, smaller related files also. So, i need to transfer all 400ish gigs to a remote server, but how? What is the best method? I have full remote access to the server, so i can install anything i need to install. There are Windows, Linux and a Solaris VM running on the box itself, so any of those can be used there, and i have Windows and Linux at home. I have 2 internet connections in house, 10Mb/s uploading on each, so something that could potentially split the number of connections would be handy (kind of like GetRight, but in reverse... PutRight?).

  • HTTP transfer speeds start fast then slows to a crawl

    We just got a new dedicated 1 gigabit server running IIS. The CPU is 15% or less, the RAM (4 GB total) has 3 GB unused... We are pushing 110 mbits per second... Speeds are really slow.. And, if fact, here's how it happens: We connect, and then the speeds are really fast, and quickly decline to 40 kBps or less. What's going on? It seems the server just wont go above 120 mbits per second. The files are all very large. 50 MB to 500 MB... Could this be a factor? Again, CPU, RAM, UI responsiveness when accessing remotely all seem fine.

    I am thinking of purchasing a copy of Windows 7 via either ebay or GumTree. I am unsure as to how the product key works. A close friend of mine is warning me against buying it from ebay as he is suggesting that once it has been used, the operating system registers itself on microsoft servers using the serial number of the motherboard of the system where it has been installed. This means once installed on one machine you wont be able to install it on another machine. Now i am struggling to believe that an operating system can only be installed on one machine. Can someone please explain exactly how this works. I can see a lot of copies being sold on Ebay which are used. I used the 'Ask a question' option and the majority of the users are saying that i should be able to use it. If someone buys Windows 7 from the shop, installs it on his PC but then decides that he wants to sell it can he not sell it? Will the person buying it not be able to use it? Does the person selling it have to somehow unregister it first? What do i need to look out for if buying it from Ebay? Thanks

If the User anable the Clipboard Funktion in his Remote Desktop Connection, the user can copy a file from the RDP Connection to his local Computer and the other way arround.     Possible Duplicate: How to persuade C fanatics to work on my C++ open source project? I am launching an open-source project into a space where a lot of development is done Linux-kernel-style, i.e. C-language with a low-level mindset. My project is broad and complex and uses aspects of the C++ language and libraries, including the Boost library to best effect for simple, slightly syntactically sweetened, elegant and well structured high level code. We are using C++ templates too to avoid duplication of code and for static polymorphism in code specialisation for performance. Many of the experts in this field are well used to pure C-language projects. How can I persuade them to contribute to my idiomatic C++ based project? I have no objection to C-language subcomponents or the use of a C-like subset for parts of the project so that might be part of the answer. This is a rewritten and retagged rehash of my previous question that was closed. Apologies to those who read and answered for it not being constructive. I hope this new question is viewed as constructive. Please note that this is not a language advocacy question and please keep answers in that spirit.

    Server A generates a file and scp's it to Server B. I have cron running on Server B that each minute looks for new files that were copied over. My question is- how can Server B ensure that the file that was copied over is actually done being copied? I don'y want to start processing the file unless it's been fully written to. Is this possible to determine?

  • Transferring users and search engines to a new domain

    I've been asked to take over the maintnance of an existing site that's being reworked. At present it's serving localised content for several languages, but via a fairly unhelpful mechanism that means essentially search engines only have it indexed in English and any deep links will de facto appear in English as well. So, new localised sites are being built under separate domains - not just for this, there's other benefits. What we're then looking to do is to redirect users correctly to the new site, where appropriate. For humans this isn't a problem. We can send them through a gateway page on their first site visit, grab their language preference and put it in a cookie, then redirect them to the new localised content as soon as it's available. For search engines, this isn't so good... In principle I'm happy to simply bypass the gateway page and redirect known spiders to the new site, but this means we're serving radically different content (different URL even!) to human and robot users. Won't this therefore be regarded as cloaking and cause us grief? Anyone know a better way to handle this?

  • How do I configure Ubuntu Server as Primary Domain Controller for Windows 7

    I have a Mac server running OS X Server 10.5 Server and as a PDC for our Windows XP systems. I'd like to use the OS X Server as a PDC for our Windows 7 boxes but the version of Samba in OS X Server is not compatible with Windows 7. It appears that my best bet is to use Ubuntu Server as my PDC. I want the Windows boxes to obtain authentication information from the Mac Server's LDAP. Any suggestions are appreciated.
