  • Git: Removing carriage returns from source-controlled files

    I've got a Git repository that has some files with DOS format (\r\n line endings). I would like to just run the files through dos2unix (which would change all files to UNIX format, with \n line endings), but how badly would this affect history, and is it recommended at all? I assume that the standard is to always use UNIX line endings for source-controlled files, and optionally switch to OS-specific line endings locally?

  • how get validation messages from mangomapper using rails console ?

    Hi, I am basically teaching myself how to use RoR and MongoDB at the same time. I am following the very good book / tutorial : http://railstutorial.org/ I decided to replace Sqlite3 by MongoDB using the mongomapper gem. Everything works out about alright, but I am having some non-blocking little issues that I truly wish I could get rid of. In chapter 6, when working with validation I got 2 issues: - I don't know how to get the validations messages back like with Sqlite3. The "standard" code is: $ rails console --sandbox >> user = User.new(:name => "", :email => "[email protected]") >> user.save => false >> user.valid? => false >> user.errors.full_messages => ["Name can't be blank"] but if I try to do the same with MongoMapper, it throws an error saying that errors is undefined function. So does it mean that this is simply not implemented in mongomapper / mongo driver ? Or is there some other clever way to do this that I could not figure ?   • Making Thunar the default file browser without hiding the desktop icons

    I really dislike Ubuntu's default file browser, nautilus, and decided to opt for a lighter alternative (Thunar or Xfe). I've used the following script to change the default to Thunar, but now all my icons are gone from the desktop ! The files are still there, in /home/myid/Desktop, but they do not appear. Is there a way to show them, or is this a consequence of removing nautilus as the default file browser ?   • Overwrite archetypes in Maven

    Hello again! I'm having some trouble using Maven for my archetypes and I will need to overwrite some. I launch an instruction that does an archetype:generate in an archetype already existing directory. Is there a parameter that let's me overwrite existing archetypes? I have search the maven definitve guide but it states that the only parameters accepted are: -DgroupId -DartifactId -Dversion -DpackageName -DarchetypeGroupId -DarchetypeArtifactId -DarchetypeVersion -DinteractiveMode I could just search the directory and delete the files, but this proccess is going to be done automatically (so no human involved, no brains involved) and I wouldn't like he machine deleting things around.   • ObjectContext.SaveChanges() fails with SQL CE

    I am creating a model-first Entity Framework 4 app that uses SQL CE as its data store. All is well until I call ObjectContext.SaveChanges() to save changes to the entities in the model. At that point, SaveChanges() throws a System.Data.UpdateException, with an inner exception message that reads as follows: Server-generated keys and server-generated values are not supported by SQL Server Compact. I am completely puzzled by this message. Any idea what is going on and how to fix it? Thanks. And as a read/write test, to me it looks a bit pointless to read the same integer over and over (if I understand well what's going on in the Stream Read/Write) Wouldn't it be better to read int's from the previously written file and just read and write ints on the same place? Is there a better way to illustrate it? I've been breaking my head about a lot of these things for a while and I just can't get the whole picture..

    Afetr using the Model library (see this) for my Maven pom.xml during this weeks I jumped on this error while attempting to write a ConfiguratonContainer into the pom.xml. The javadoc for Model says: public void setConfiguration(Object configuration) Set the configuration as DOM object. Parameters: configuration - So I made some xml with Document (org.w3c.dom.Document) and the xml parser standar javax library. You know the code (it's through all the net) but I paste it here... There are like 0 people using this library (maven.model) in all the net. So here am I again, asking the senseis for help. Where is my error?     I am using a mac. When I use the "rm" command it can only remove files. The "rmdir" command only removes empty folders. If you have a directory with files and folders with files and folders in them and so on. Is there anyway to delete all the files and folders without all the strenuous command typing? Remember, I am using the mac bash shell from terminal, not Microsoft DOS or linux.

    In my answer to this question, where the asker needed a fast way to get a directory listing of a folder on a network drive, I suggested using the DOS "dir" command. Unfortunately, it's a command, not a program, so you can't execute it with CreateProcess and so I had to put it in a batch file. I don't really like that solution. It feels like a hack to me. Does anyone know a way to run dir from Delphi instead of from an external batch file?

  • Determine if string is newline in C#

    I am somehow unable to determine whether a string is newline or not. The string which I use is read from a file written by Ultraedit using DOS Terminators CR/LF. I assume this would equate to "\r\n" or Environment.NewLine in C#. However , when I perform a comparison like this it always seem to return false : if(str==Environment.NewLine) Anyone with a clue on what's going on here?
