  • openVPN GUI does not run error about error opening registry for reading HKLM\SOFTWARE\OpenVPN

    I'm trying to run OpenVPN as a portable application and to that effect i have installed it on a Windows 7 machine, copied the files to another windows 7 machine and manually restored the registry settings using a .reg file. Whenever i try to run open vpn GUI i get the following error error opening registry for reading HKLM\SOFTWARE\OpenVPN I have verified that the key mentioned is indeed in the registry at the correct location with the correct values yet the GUI still complains. I have tried running the gui as an administrator (i'm logged in as an administrator) and also the compatibility modes but none helped. I have also tried openVPN portable "OpenVPNPortable_1.6.6.paf.exe" and it has the same problem. Can anybody help me with this issue?

  • Adding my podcast to my Facebook fan page

    I've set up a Facebook fan page for my podcast, Otaku no Podcast. I'd love to add a Flash based player to the fan page that can play the latest episode of my podcast. Or, at the very least, a link to the latest episode on my website (which has its own Flash-based audio player). My podcast's website of course exports a valid RSS feed. I've tried several different podcast player/RSS feed display applications including Podcast Pickle (which has a facebook app), but none of them appear to work and/or are maintained any more. Podcast Pickle used to work for me a long time ago, but is no longer working for me. Any ideas?

  • Any Recommendations for a Web Based Large File Transfer System?

    I'm looking for a server software product that: Allows my users to share large files with: The general public securely to 1 or more people (notification via email, optionally with a token that gives them x period of time to download) Allows anyone in the general public to share files with my users. Perhaps by invitation. Has to be user friendly enough to allow my users to use this with out having to bug me as the admin. It needs to be a system that we can install on our own server (we don't want shared data sitting on anyone else's server) A web based solution. Using some kind or secure comms channel would be good too, eg, ssh Files to share could be over 1 GB. I found the question below. There are too many services that provide this, but I want something we can install on our own server. A last resort would be to roll my own. Any ideas appreciated. Glen EDIT Sorry Tom and Jeff but Glen specifically says that he's looking for a 'product' so given that I specialise in this field thought that my expertise in this area may have been of use to him. I don't see how him writing services is going to be easy for him to maintain going forward (large IT admin overhead) or simple for his users and the general public to work with.

    hi i have an iphone 2g firmware 3.1.3 ifone is jailbroken have install0us and appcake on it. i have downloaded tunein radio version 1.4 from apptrckr. it installed fine but i cannot open it. i wuold click on it, it would start i mean for like 1 second, then just close. i dont know whats wrong with it. can some please help me. i have kill sb on it, which restarts the spring board. i tried turning it off n back on again. deleted and re-installed. deleted it and turnt ifone off and back on, then re-installed it. it doesn't seem 2 work at all. any one know what 2 do. mind it is a cracked app. thankz..!!

  • Locking down a box on the web

    I'm a Java developer who is looking to put a game on the web. I'm not much of a web or server guy, though, and frankly I seem a little lost at where I should start with putting something on the web. My application works fine on my machine, and I'm sure I can make it work fine on any box I put it on. But the security of that box is pretty important. If I sign up for a standard hosting package (let's say from GoDaddy or something) can I simply tell them "make port 12345 open for communication" and let them handle the rest of the security details? If I can't, what are the things I'm going to need to know to prevent my game server from getting hacked to shreds? (Links to solid resources fine by me!) Thanks!

  • Diagnosing Solaris 8 server memory and swap space usage

    Hello everyone. Essentially, my question is related to memory allocation for Solaris virtual machines. I am running a couple of old Sun ONE 6 Java web servers on two Solaris 8 virtual machines. I see that there's a reasonable amount of swap space being used, but I'm not exactly sure if this could indicate a need to add more RAM to these machines. At service peak hours (mornings usually), the response time of the web application these servers host jumps up to at most 11 seconds (somewhat detrimental for a relatively simple web page loading action). Average response time at non peak times is about 5 seconds. What would you be able to infer about the RAM usage for these machines from the ouput below? Is this information reasonably sufficient? Or would I need to run some other commands to rule out server memory starvation? Finally, since there is a Java application at the core of the setup, I've also thought about: 1) Trace the heap's Object allocation to detect potential memory leaks. 2) Do some performance profiling to see if this instead related to networking delays. I mention this since the application talks with a single Oracle Database, but I would doubt this to be the case since they're pretty close from a network segmentation perspective. I appreciate any kind of insight and feedback you could provide. Thanks for your time and help.     I have an discount asp.net account, which uses IIS 7 and I want to configure subdomains to point at specific applications on the site. For instance: 's1.site.com' would run the application at 'site.com/serverone'. I would like the subdomain to be opaque so that users do not have to deal with the /serverone part. There was a similar question on server fault, but it involves creating a whole new site for each subdomain, where as I would rather just create independent websites.

    I am looking for a simple web application that only has a simple graphical representation of the current status of 30+ lecture rooms. I.e. Green = good, Red=bad i.e. PC or Projector not working. With a little message and a ETA as well. I am not looking for monitoring software, merely a way for a tech to flag a room as "technically challenged" until 1PM or until "Friday 10AM". With a message for those lecturers who are interested: "Waiting on replacement bulb" or "Power supply gone" I know this is a simple thing to code up yourself, but I am looking for something that has been around for a few years that has some cool extra little functionality that you wouldn't think of yourself. I just can't find anything like that out there. And just to be clear: not monitoring software, more like lecturer feedback web app.

    I have a Grails web application (just a standard war file) deployed on a Ubuntu 10.10 server running on tomcat 6. My database is postgresql. The problem is that every so often (once or twice a day after inactivity) when I try to log into this web application it just freezes. I can navigate to the login page but when I try and login (first time the DB is hit, might be a clue..?) the application just freezes indefinitely, no 500 response code... the browser just waits and waits. I followed the instructions detailed here because the problem described sounded the same as mine. My GC logging showed no long running GC, all sub sec. When the application freezes a jmap heap output is... using parallel threads in the new generation. using thread-local object allocation.   • Any way to move Office Starter To-Go to a non-flash drive?

    Microsoft's Office Starter edition has an interesting option to create a portable version on a USB flash drive using the "Microsoft Office Starter To-Go Device Manager". This creates a portable version of the Word and Excel starter editions (limited versions of the normal applications that include ads). This would be great for use in Virtual Machines since it requires no registration and has a perpetual license. But I want to copy the files off of the flash drive and just store them in the VHD. The problem is that it appears when you try to run the office.exe executable from anywhere but the USB drive you get the error "Microsoft Office Starter To-Go cannot be launched because it is installed on an unsupported device." Any ideas what it is objecting to and is there a legal workaround for this? A limited but legal and portable version of Word and Excel is a great idea. But tying it specifically to a USB flash drive seems a bit odd. They don't seem to care how many of those flash drives you create so it's not clear what the restrictions are about.

I tried adding them in the build process but I didn't get any "Executables" for them(just the main one and a few others). Is there a way to get these to excute? They are basically command line utility functions to process some text files but use large files in the distribution and are also used by the main application. Thanks

  • Migrating email forwarding entries from DirectAdmin to Google App (Free edition)

    I have a website hosted in a shared hosting account and it contains a DirectAdmin (DA) control panel. From there, I can see some email forwarding entries. I would like to migrate the email server to the Google App's, I am going to change the MX records to point to Google email server in the DA. For the existing email accounts that I see in the DA, I will re-create them in the Google App. But for those email forwarding entries, I am confused. If I keep them there, will they still work after I have changed the MX record pointing to the Google email server? If not, this means I will need to re-create them in the Google App, right? Unfortunately, Google App (Free edition) does not seem to allow email forwarding like those in DA. Unless I choose to use other editons (http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/answer.py?answer=175745). In DA, when I have created an email forwarding entry such as [email protected] - [email protected], I do not really need to create a dummy [email protected] email account and DA will still do the forwarding properly. The best I can do now, without upgrading the Google App edition, is to simply create dummy email accounts in the Google App and setup forwarding inside that email account, is this correct?

  • What is the harm in giving developers read access to application server application event logs?

    I am a developer working on an ASP.NET application. The application writes logging messages to the Windows event log - a custom application log just for this application. However, I do not have any access to testing or staging web/application servers. I thought an admin could just give me read access to this event log to help in debugging problems (currently a service that is working in dev is not working in test environment and I have no idea why) but that is against my client's (I'm a consultant) policy. I feel silly to keep asking an admin to look at the event log for me. What is the harm in giving developers read access to application server application event logs? Is there a different method of application logging that sysadmins prefer programmers use? Surely, admins don't want to be fetching logging messages for developers all the time.

    Hi, What are the main guidelines to setting up a user account on a Linux machine for a web app? In my case it is a Rails application that does file management. First thing I can think of is to limit access rights to only the directories it needs. But how exactly should I go about this? Setup rights through a user group or a through the user's ownership of those directories. I have very little experience in user rights management. What else do I need to consider? I've heard of ACL's and SELinux, do I need to look into any of these to guaranty decent security for my simple web app? Any advice about this and anything not mentioned welcomed, Thanks, Max.   • IIS6: How to troubleshoot a 404 error in an ASP.NET application?

    I have an ASP.NET application on a Windows Server 2003/IIS6 that refuses to run for some reason (it's the Xerox Centre, if that info helps). It has been working flawlessly before though on this server. Now, all I get if I try to open the app homepage (http://some.intranet.server/XeroxCentreWareWeb/) is a "404 - File or directory not found" error. The app is configured to run in it's own app pool, which runs as Network Service. The Network Service account has read access to the configured directory. If I stop the app pool, I get the expected "Service Unavailable" message, meaning the app and its pool are wired correctly I tried to track down any file permission issues with procmon - nothing to be seen. There isn't even an access to the web app directory happening when the page loads. Interestingly, according to procmon, the web server accesses the 401-2 custom error file (Logon failed due to server configuration) first, but then decides to send the 404 down to the client. EDIT: The app runs with Windows-integrated authentication. Regular users have access to the app directory as well (I would have noticed file system "ACCESS DENIED" messages in procmon, if there had been any.) This makes me think that there is some kind of weird permission problem that occurs even before the application files are being accessed. I just have no idea where to look. I've tried to run the app pool as Local System for a test, but to no avail. What else could I check in this case?
