  • h264 inside FLV container vs. MP4 container?

    - by Gotys
I am developing a tube site, and currently having issues with h264 format . By looking at youtube, I noticed they are putting their hi-def videos into mp4 container, so logically I did the same. Next, I installed mod_h264_streaming for lighttpd to make streaming and timeline-scrubbing work. Problem is, that large files (500mb+ at somewhat high resolution) take for EVER to even start buffering ( I read the flowplayer or other flash players need to download metadata first) . I moved the xmov atom to the front of the file with MP4Box (i tried qt-quickstart too) , and the problem didn't go away. Next I read online I need to interleave audio tracks, so I did that too. No change in slowness. So I tried putting the same exact h264 movie into an FLV container, and the playback buffering starts almost instantly - no slowness. So what am I missing here? Why would I choose MP4 container with mod_264_streaming module , which seems super-slow over a regular FLV container with lighttpd's built-in mod_flv_streaming ? Obviously many websites pick mp4 container , but I fail to understand why ? And as a side question - I tried using HTML5's VIDEO tag to try the same h264 MP4 movie, and the scrubbing is LIGHTING FAST! I looked into lighttpd's log file, and i noticed taht Flash Players append video.mp4?start=234 each time timeline is scrubbed, wheres HTML5's video tag does no such thing . Is this some sort of limitations of Flash ? Why Can't flash streaming be same fast as HTML5 streaming? Thanks to ALL who can help. I very much appreciate this community.

  • USB Device Not Recognized (Mac)

    - by Nargis
Fortunately, my Mac-pro also made one of my USB storage devices inoperable. My data loss in that USB device but such as another USB device and USB keyboard are unaffected. I have heard that my friend usually trigger this problem by having at least two devices plugged in - typically thumb drives/USB flash drives, and then once a second flash drive is plugged in that become unrecognized. I have only two USB ports and first I think port loose when I connect two USB devices. But later I found these hidden files (“.Spotlight-V100”, “.TemporaryItems”, “.Trashes”, and “._.Trashes”) are created by Mac OS. And before unrecognized that USB device I have deleted these files and my friend had also done the same action. Now I don’t want to test for next USB device to become unrecognized and I won’t deleted any hidden system file inside the flash drives. But I really want to know why these problems happened. Can I delete these hidden files when I only connect to virtual machine (Vista), because I used to delete all useless hidden files from USB flash drives? Any suggestions or thoughts to prevent this or alternative suggestions to fix the problem that take lossless would be much appreciated.

  • Non-volatile cache RAID controllers: what kind of protection is there against NVCACHE failure?

    - by astrostl
The battery back-up (BBU) model: admin enables write-back cache with BBU writes are cached to the RAID controller's RAM (major performance benefit) the battery saves uncommitted and cached data in the event of a power loss (reliability) If I lose power and come back within a day or so, my data should be both complete and uncorrupted. The downside to this is that, if the battery is dead or low, OR EVEN IF IT IS IN A RELEARN CYCLE (drain/charge loops to ensure the battery's health), the controller reverts to write-through mode and performance will suffer. What's more, the relearn cycles are usually automated on a schedule which may or may not happen in the middle of big traffic. So, that has to be manually disabled and manually scheduled for off-hours if it's a concern. Annoying either way. NV caches have capacitors with a sufficient charge to commit any uncommitted-to-disk data to flash. Not only is that more survivable in longer loss situations, but you don't have to concern yourself with battery death, wear-out, or relearning. All of that sounds great to me. What doesn't sound great to me is the prospect of that flash module having an issue, though. What if it's completely hosed? What if it's only partially hosed? A bit corrupted at the edges? Relearn cycles can tell when something like a simple battery is failing, but is there a similar process to verify that the flash is functional? I'm just far more trusting of a battery, warts and all. I know the card's RAM can fail, the card itself can fail - that's common territory, though. In case you didn't guess, yeah, I've experienced a shocking-to-me amount of flash/SSD/etc. failure :)

  • Do we need to adopt a black-box asset our project is inheriting from its predecessor?

    - by Tom Anderson
Our client has an eCommerce site which was developed by an in-house team, and is now showing its age. I work for a firm brought in as external contractors to build a replacement. Part of the current site is a Flash viewer applet which displays media about the product - zoom-able images, 360-degree views, movies, and so on. We need to show the same media the current site does, so we are simply reusing the viewer. The viewer is embedded on a page in the usual way, and told what media to show by means of an XML file it loads from our server, which is pretty simple for us to generate. We've got this working; it was pretty straightforward. But what else do we need to do? The thing is, as far as we're concerned, the viewer is a binary blob which is served from the client's content-distribution network. We embed it, feed it some XML, and it does its job, but we have no power over its internals. It's completely opaque to us - a black box. We can use it to do what it does, but we can't change it, so if we ever need to do something different, we're stuffed. We're building this site for the client, and when we're done, we'll hand it over for them to maintain. We won't be doing the maintenance ourselves. There's a small team within the client who are working as part of our team, and who will be the ones doing the maintenance. That team only includes one person from the team that built the old site, and it's not someone who knows the image viewer. The people who do know the image viewer are not slated to join our team when our system replaces theirs - they'll be moved to other projects. The documentation on the viewer is extremely thin, and as far as i know doesn't cover the internals at all. My worry is that if someone doesn't take some positive action, all knowledge of the internal workings of the viewer - even down to where the source code for it is - will be lost. It's possible it already has been. Is this something to worry about? If so, whose job is it to worry about it? What should they do about it once they've got worried?

  • Why do some games randomly turn my screen a random solid color?

    - by Emlena.PhD
When playing some games my computer will randomly have an error that I cannot fix without turning it off and back on again. The screen changes to one solid color, which varies (off the top of my head I can remember seeing solid green, magenta, etc..) and the sound blares a single tone. The sound sometimes briefly restores and I can still hear the game sounds and even hear and still be heard by people in my Mumble channel, but the screen doesn't right itself so I'm still blind. What's more is this happens in some games but not in others. While the game is actually running, not while I'm still in the menu. However, it does happen if I'm afk or idle but the game world is still rendering. Games where the error occurs: League of Legends World of Warcraft Trine The Sims 2 Dungeon Defenders Safe games: games where it has never occurred: Tribes: Ascend Star Wars: the Old Republic Battlefield 3 So relatively older games cause the problem while newer games do not? I cannot predict when it will happen, it just seems random. However, if it happens and I try playing the same game further after restart it does appear to occur more frequently after the first time. But if I switch to a safe game it doesn't continue happening. Both of my RAM sticks appear fine, flipped position or either one on their own and games still run, computer still boots. I would think over-heating, but then why not all games? ALso, sometimes it happens immediately after I start playing, within seconds of the 3D world booting up. I'm looking to upgrade very soon so I want to figure out what component or software is fubar and replace/repair it. Any suggestions or recommendations of tools would be helpful. Below is some system information. Dxdiag does not detect any problems. Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.120305-1505) System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. • Full computer freeze with audio stuttering after playing games for a period of time

    - by Wes
I've been having a problem with my computer freezing completely when playing games like LA Noire or SW:TOR (yay early access!). Basically, what happens is I will play for around an hour or so (depending on the game) and when the freeze happens, the entire computer locks up and any audio that was being played glitches out and stutters broken-record style (only much shorter. Very techno). I think it might be heat related and thought it might be my video card overheating, so I have been setting my video card (Nvidia Geforce 260GTX 216-core) fan to highest setting, but that has little to no effect. Now I'm beginning to think it's either my FSB or CPU overheating. Can anyone provide some insight or similar experiences? I'm really at a loss and don't wanna damage my rig beyond repair.

  • games and movies become too slow after some time

    - by ishaq
On my gaming desktop, I was fixing my desktop's power supply when something seemed to burn (I got that stinging burning smell). However when I turned ON the computer (it was OFF before), everything seemed to be fine. However, I have noticed that now it becomes too slow if I play a game or movie on it. I am talking about the computer becoming painfully slow after about 5 minutes into the movie/game (it works fine otherwise e.g. browsing), it becomes so slow I can see individual frames from movies/games. What could be the problem? A fried video card? friend memory (RAM), something else? My system's configuration is: Intel Core i7 CPU 3.40GHz 8GB DDR3 RAM 2TB WDC HDD NVIDIA GeForece GT 220 (1GB) Thermal Take Commander MS1 Chassis ( http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?S=1394&ID=2051 ) mainboard: Intel DH67CL AAG10212-208 Realtek High Definition Audio

  • getline won't let me type, c++

    - by Stijn
    I try to get the name of a game the users chooses and store it in a vector. I use getline so the user can use a space. When I try to type a new game to add it won't let me. Problem is at if(action == "add") Here's my code: #include <iostream> #include <string> #include <vector> #include <algorithm> #include <ctime> #include <cstdlib> using namespace std; int main() { vector<string>::const_iterator myIterator; vector<string>::const_iterator iter; vector<string> games; games.push_back("Crysis 2"); games.push_back("GodOfWar 3"); games.push_back("FIFA 12"); cout <<"Welcome to your Games Library.\n"; cout <<"\nThese are your games:\n"; for (iter = games.begin(); iter != games.end(); ++iter) { cout <<*iter <<endl; } //the loop! string action; string newGame; cout <<"\n-Type 'exit' if you want to quit.\n-Type 'add' if you want to add a game.\n-Type 'delete' if you want to delete a game.\n-Type 'find' if you want to search a game.\n-Type 'game' if you don't know what game to play.\n-Type 'show' if you want to view your library."; while (action != "exit") { cout <<"\n\nWhat do you want to do: "; cin >> action; //problem is here if (action == "add") { cout <<"\nType the name of the game you want to add: "; getline (cin, newGame); games.push_back(newGame); for (iter = games.begin(); iter != games.end(); ++iter) { cout <<*iter <<endl; } continue; } else if (action == "show") { cout <<"\nThese are your games:\n"; for (iter = games.begin(); iter != games.end(); ++iter) { cout <<*iter <<endl; } } else if (action == "delete") { cout <<"Type the name of the game you want to delete: "; cin >> newGame; getline (cin, newGame); iter = find(games.begin(), games.end(), newGame); if(iter != games.end()) { games.erase(iter); cout <<"\nGame deleted!"; } else { cout<<"\nGame not found."; } continue; } else if (action == "find") { cout <<"Which game you want to look for in your library: "; cin >> newGame; getline (cin, newGame); iter = find(games.begin(), games.end(), newGame); if (iter != games.end()) { cout << "Game found.\n"; } else { cout << "Game not found.\n"; } continue; } else if (action == "game") { srand(static_cast<unsigned int>(time(0))); random_shuffle(games.begin(), games.end()); cout << "\nWhy don't you play " << games[0]; continue; } else if (action == "quit") { cout <<"\nRemember to have fun while gaming!!\n"; break; } else { cout <<"\nCommand not found"; } } return 0; }

  • Help needed throwing a ball in AS3

    - by Opoe
    I'm working on a flash game, coding on the time line. What I'm trying to accomplish is the following: With the mouse you swing and throw/release a ball which bounces against the walls and eventualy comes to point where it lays still (like a real ball). I allmost had it working, but now the ball sticks to the mouse, in stead of being released, my question to you is: Can you help me make this work and explain to me what I did wrong? You can simply preview my code by making a movieclip named 'circle' on a 550x400 stage. stage.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, circle_update); var previousPostionX:Number; var previousPostionY:Number; var throwSpeedX:Number; var throwSpeedY:Number; var isItDown:Boolean; var xSpeed:Number = 0; var ySpeed:Number = 0; var friction:Number = 0.96; var offsetX:Number = 0; var offsetY:Number = 0; var newY:Number = 0; var oldY:Number = 0; var newX:Number = 0; var oldX:Number = 0; var dragging:Boolean; circle.buttonMode = true; circle.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, mouseDownHandler); circle.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, throwcircle); circle.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, clicked); circle.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, released); function mouseDownHandler(e:MouseEvent):void { dragging = true; stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, mouseUpHandler); offsetX = mouseX - circle.x; offsetY = mouseY - circle.y; } function mouseUpHandler(e:MouseEvent):void { dragging = false; } function throwcircle(e:Event) { circle.x += xSpeed; circle.y += ySpeed; xSpeed *= friction; ySpeed *= friction; } function changeFriction(e:Event):void { friction = e.target.value; trace(e.target.value); } function circle_update(e:Event){ if ( dragging == true ) { circle.x = mouseX - offsetX; circle.y = mouseY - offsetY; } if(circle.x + (circle.width * 0.50) >= 550){ circle.x = 550 - circle.width * 0.50; } if(circle.x - (circle.width * 0.50) <= 0){ circle.x = circle.width * 0.50; } if(circle.y + (circle.width * 0.50) >= 400){ circle.y = 400 - circle.height * 0.50; } if(circle.y - (circle.width * 0.50) <= 0){ circle.y = circle.height * 0.50; } } function clicked(theEvent:Event) { isItDown =true; addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, updateView); } function released(theEvent:Event) { isItDown =false; } function updateView(theEvent:Event) { if (isItDown==true){ throwSpeedX = mouseX - previousPostionX; throwSpeedY = mouseY - previousPostionY; circle.x = mouseX; circle.y = mouseY; } else{ circle.x += throwSpeedX; circle.y += throwSpeedY; throwSpeedX *=0.9; throwSpeedY *=0.9; } previousPostionX= circle.x; previousPostionY= circle.y; }

my sister has a cybercafe business which is typically have a server PC and clients PC. I want the multiple clients to access the game directly into the server, so I no longer install the games/online games in every clients' computer. Anyway, I tried to test an online game playing it in two client at a time but it doesn't work. So Is there a software capable of making one game playable by multiple clients?

  • Is there such a thing as a game made using a spreadsheet?

    - by andygrunt
Many computer games (especially the 'Tycoon' type games, Civilization etc) are essentially spreadsheets under the hood, displaying the results of their calculations with a veneer of pretty graphics. But, I've often wondered if anyone's actually created a game using a spreadsheet (using the standard formulas and functions available in a spready) but never actually come across one. So, can anyone point me to a spreadsheet game? - the more complex, the better.

  • "Link" against a SWC in Flex

    - by ggambett
I'm trying to do a very simple app in Flash/Flex, that loads an image embedded in the swf itself and then shows it. The thing is I'm trying to do it using the command line only (mxmlc and compc) and without using @Embed, and failing miserably. I have a very simple Main.as : package { import flash.display.*; import flash.utils.*; public class Main extends Sprite { public function Main () : void { var pDef:Class = getDefinitionByName("icon_big.png") as Class; var _image:BitmapData = new pDef(0, 0); var pSprite:Sprite = new Sprite(); pSprite.graphics.beginBitmapFill(_image); pSprite.graphics.drawRect(0, 0, _image.width, _image.height); pSprite.graphics.endFill(); addChild(pSprite); } } } This works fine if I add icon_big.png to the Library using the Flash IDE, but I can't figure out how to do it from the command line. I'm using compc to put the png inside a swc : compc --include-file icon_big.png icon_big.png -output assets.swc This generates a 17 kb assets.swf, slightly bigger than icon_big.png. Then I try to compile and link Main.as : mxmlc -include-libraries+=assets.swc Main.as This produces a 944 byte Main.swf, which clearly doesn't include the asset, and fails at runtime. According to the mxmlc docs I found, -include-libraries should link with every class, including the ones not directly referenced by code (as is the case here, since I'm getting the class from code), and it unsurprisingly fails at runtime. Note that this same code (or, more precisely, quite equivalent code) works when used within a Flash project - I'm not looking to fix the code, but how to do in the command line whatever Flash does internally. I feel I'm just "not getting" something... any clues?

  • Adding time to a timer/counter

    - by BoneStarr
I've looked all over the web and everyone can teach you how to make a timer for your game or a countdown, but I can't seem to find out how to add time to an already counting timer. So here is my counter class: package { import flash.display.MovieClip; import flash.display.Stage; import flash.text.TextField; import flash.events.Event; import flash.utils.Timer; import flash.events.TimerEvent; public class Score extends MovieClip { public var second:Number = 0; public var timer:Timer = new Timer(100); private var stageRef:Stage; public function Score(stageRef:Stage) { x = 560.95; y = 31.35; this.stageRef = stageRef; timer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, scoreTimer); timer.start(); } public function scoreTimer(evt:TimerEvent):void { second += 1; scoreDisplay.text = String("Score: " +second); } That works without any issues or problems and just keeps counting upwards at a speed of 100ms, what I want to know is how to add say 30 seconds if something happens in my game, say you kill an enemy for example. Please help!

  • AS3 variables handling by AVM/compiler/scope

    - by jchmielewski
I have couple of questions about AS3 variables handling by AVM/compiler/scope .1. This code in Flash will throw an error: function myFunction() { var mc:MovieClip=new MovieClip(); var mc:MovieClip=new MovieClip(); } but it won`t throw an error in Flex (only warning in Editor). Why? .2. How Flash sees variables in loops? Apparently this: for (var i:int=0; i<2; i++) { var mc:MovieClip=new MovieClip(); } isn`t equal to just: var mc:MovieClip=new MovieClip(); var mc:MovieClip=new MovieClip(); because it will throw an error again as earlier in Flash, but in Flex in function not? Is Flash changing somehow my loop before compilation? .3. Where in a class in equivalent to timeline in Flash - where in class I would put code which I put normally on timeline (I assume it is not constructor because of what I have written earlier, or maybe it`s a matter of Flash/Flex compiler)?

  • Boot from USB on MediaSmart EX485

    - by Matt Hanson
I have an HP MediaSmart EX485. I'm attempting to install Vail on it with a USB flash drive and this guide: http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2010/04/26/how-to-install-windows-home-server-vail-on-the-hp-mediasmart-server/. I'm having issues getting the server to boot from the USB flash drive. The MediaSmart itself being headless doesn't help matters. The flash drive has an LED on it for disk activity, and I'm able to see that it's detected when the server is powered on, but it's definitely not booting from it. Any ideas?

MBP 6,2 :: Google Chrome 13.0.782.32 beta :: Adobe Flash Player 10,3,181,26 UPDATE: only Youtube is affected. Vimeo, other flash, etc. all works great. Hello. I recently had to hard reboot my MBP. After that, I could not watch Youtube videos or (I believe) other flash enabled content. The videos appear transparent, as if there were a "hole" in my browser (Chrome) such that I could see through the hole and see my desktop. I've attached a picture (just picked a random video) Thanks.

  • Why is USB-sticks so much slower than Solid State Drives?

    - by Jonas
From what I understand, USB flash memory and Solid State Drives are based on similar technologies, NAND flash memory. But USB-sticks is usually quite slow with a read and write speed of 5-10MB per second while Solid State Drives usually is very fast, usually 100-570MB per second. Why are Solid State Drives so much faster than USB-sticks? And why isn't USB-sticks faster than 5-10MB per second? Is it simply that SSD-drives uses parallel access to the NAND flash memory or are there other reasons?

  • I have a bunch of CHK files on my USB Drive that used to be my stories that I saved on there. How do I get them back?

    - by Susana
Ok, so I am not sure why, but my USB flash drive isn't showing all of my stories that I typed and saved. It might be because I removed the USB flash drive without ejecting it safely. All of the data was there on my flash drive, I just couldn't see it. The capacity was almost full so I'm pretty sure the data was there. So, when I decided to run and check to see if there were any problems, the computer found that there were. I think it found my files, but now they are CHK files and I don't know how to get them back. Can someone please help? This is my life's work here!

  • Actionscript 3.0 - Enemies do not move right in my platformer game

    - by Christian Basar
I am making a side-scrolling platformer game in Flash (Actionscript 3.0). I have made lots of progress lately, but I have come across a new problem. I will give some background first. My game level's terrain (or 'floor') is referenced by a MovieClip variable called 'floor.' My desire is to have the Player and enemy characters walk along the terrain. I have gotten the Player character to move on the terrain just fine; he walks up/down hills and falls whenever there is no ground beneath him. Here is the code I created to allow the Player to follow the terrain correctly. Much more code is used to control the Player, but only this code deals with the Player character's following of the terrain and gravity. // If the Player's not on the ground (not touching the 'floor' MovieClip)... if (!onGround) { // Disable ducking downKeyPressed = false; // Increase the Player's 'y' position by his 'y' velocity player.y += playerYVel; } // Increase the 'playerYVel' variable so that the Player will fall // progressively faster down the screen. This code technically // runs "all the time" but in reality it only affects the player // when he's off the ground. playerYVel += gravity; // Give the Player a terminal velocity of 15 px/frame if (playerYVel > 15) { playerYVel = 15; } // If the Player has not hit the 'floor,' increase his falling //speed if (! floor.hitTestPoint(player.x, player.y, true)) { player.y += playerYVel; // The Player is not on the ground when he's not touching it onGround = false; } Since getting this code to work for the Player, I have created a 'SkullDemon' class, which is one of the planned enemies for my game. I want the 'SkullDemon' objects to move along the terrain like the Player does. With lots of great help, I have already coded the EventListeners, etc. necessary for the 'SkullDemons' to move. Unfortunately, I am having trouble getting them to move along the terrain. In fact, they do not touch the terrain at all; they move along the top of the boundary of the 'floor' MovieClip! I had a simple text diagram showing what I mean, but unfortunately Stackoverflow does not format it correctly. I hope my problem is clear from my description. Strangely enough, my code for the Player's movement and the 'SkullDemon's' movement is almost exactly the same, yet the 'SkullDemons' do not move like the Player does. Here is my code for the SkullDemon movement: // Move all of the Skull Demons using this method protected function moveSkullDemons():void { // Go through the whole 'skullDemonContainer' for (var skullDi:int = 0; skullDi < skullDemonContainer.numChildren; skullDi++) { // Set the SkullDemon 'instance' variable to equal the current SkullDemon skullDIns = SkullDemon(skullDemonContainer.getChildAt(skullDi)); // For now, just move the Skull Demons left at 5 units per second skullDIns.x -= 5; // If the Skull Demon has not hit the 'floor,' increase his falling //speed if (! floor.hitTestPoint(skullDIns.x, skullDIns.y, true)) { // Increase the Skull Demon's 'y' position by his 'y' velocity skullDIns.y += skullDIns.sdYVel; // The Skull Demon is not on the ground when he's not touching it skullDIns.sdOnGround = false; } // Increase the 'sdYVel' variable so that the Skull Demon will fall // progressively faster down the screen. This code technically // runs "all the time" but in reality it only affects the Skull Demon // when he's off the ground. if (! skullDIns.sdOnGround) { skullDIns.sdYVel += skullDIns.sdGravity; // Give the Skull Demon a terminal velocity of 15 px/frame if (skullDIns.sdYVel > 15) { skullDIns.sdYVel = 15; } } // What happens when the Skull Demon lands on the ground after a fall? // The Skull Demon is only on the ground ('onGround == true') when // the ground is touching the Skull Demon MovieClip's origin point, // which is at the Skull Demon's bottom centre for (var i:int = 0; i < 10; i++) { // The Skull Demon is only on the ground ('onGround == true') when // the ground is touching the Skull Demon MovieClip's origin point, // which is at the Skull Demon's bottom centre if (floor.hitTestPoint(skullDIns.x, skullDIns.y, true)) { skullDIns.y = skullDIns.y; // Set the Skull Demon's y-axis speed to 0 skullDIns.sdYVel = 0; // The Skull Demon is on the ground again skullDIns.sdOnGround = true; } } } } // End of 'moveSkullDemons()' function It is almost like the 'SkullDemons' are interacting with the 'floor' MovieClip using the hitTestObject() function, and not the hitTestPoint() function which is what I want, and which works for the Player character. I am confused about this problem and would appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks!

  • Relative cam movement and momentum on arbitrary surface

    - by user29244
I have been working on a game for quite long, think sonic classic physics in 3D or tony hawk psx, with unity3D. However I'm stuck at the most fundamental aspect of movement. The requirement is that I need to move the character in mario 64 fashion (or sonic adventure) aka relative cam input: the camera's forward direction always point input forward the screen, left or right input point toward left or right of the screen. when input are resting, the camera direction is independent from the character direction and the camera can orbit the character when input are pressed the character rotate itself until his direction align with the direction the input is pointing at. It's super easy to do as long your movement are parallel to the global horizontal (or any world axis). However when you try to do this on arbitrary surface (think moving along complex curved surface) with the character sticking to the surface normal (basically moving on wall and ceiling freely), it seems harder. What I want is to achieve the same finesse of movement than in mario but on arbitrary angled surfaces. There is more problem (jumping and transitioning back to the real world alignment and then back on a surface while keeping momentum) but so far I didn't even take off the basics. So far I have accomplish moving along the curved surface and the relative cam input, but for some reason direction fail all the time (point number 3, the character align slowly to the input direction). Do you have an idea how to achieve that? Here is the code and some demo so far: The demo: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/24530447/flash%20build/litesonicengine/LiteSonicEngine5.html Camera code: using UnityEngine; using System.Collections; public class CameraDrive : MonoBehaviour { public GameObject targetObject; transform.rotation = Quaternion.LookRotation( projected_forward_to_normal_surface, ground_normal ); } private Vector3 GetNextPosition( Vector3 current_ground_position ) { Vector3 next_position; // //-------------------------------------------------------------------- // angle = 0; // Vector3 dir = this.transform.InverseTransformDirection(motion); // angle = Vector3.Angle(Vector3.forward, dir);// * 1f * Time.fixedDeltaTime; // // if(angle > 0) this.transform.Rotate(0,angle,0); // //-------------------------------------------------------------------- next_position = current_ground_position + gameObject.transform.up * 0.5f + motion ; return next_position; } } Some observation: I have the correct input, I have the correct translation in the camera direction ... but whenever I attempt to slowly lerp the direction of the character in direction of the input, all I get is wild spin! Sad Also discovered that strafing to the right (immediately at the beginning without moving forward) has major singularity trapping on the equator!! I'm totally lost and crush (I have already done a much more featured version which fail at the same aspect)

  • which flash 3d particle engine generate such xml file

    - by Huang F. Lei
    I found some particle config files like below one, but I don't know which flash 3d particle engine use them, they are different from away3d's which use 'root' as root element of xml. <effect pos="0 0 0"> <property cache="1" lifetime="10000"/> <mesh blendmode="add"> <path> <frame y="100" durtime="1000" x="0" z="0"/> </path> <scale> <frame y="0.2000000001" durtime="300" x="2.2" z="2.2"/> <frame y="0.4" durtime="300" x="2.7" z="2.7"/> </scale> </mesh> <vibrate delayTime="100" amplitude="10" durationTime="750" intension="50"/> <quad billboard="false" > </quad> <particle global="false" pos=""> <scale> <frame y="1" durtime="0" x="1" z="1"/> <frame y="1" durtime="2000" x="1.5" z="1.5"/> </scale> </particle> </effect>

  • Creating a bootable flash without overlayfs

    - by Septagram
I want to create an USB stick to carry my Ubuntu everywhere around with me. It's not intended to spread Ubuntu by installing it everywhere, but rather for running my configured system on any computer I come across. So far, I went with installing Ubuntu with unetbootin, however, I have some issues with this. When installed with netbootin, the original disk image is kept intact on the flash drive, forever. Also, a file is created for persistent storage and during boot it is accessed together with the image by overlayfs. This, in my opinion, has the following problems: If system is updated regularly, then files from the image are overwritten in persistent storage, doubling their size and wasting precious space. Persistent storage has a fixed size that you have to define from the start, again, wasting precious space. I'm not 100% sure, but maybe using overlayfs makes disk access slower, and more so on the relatively slow devices. So I'd like to find another solution: either to get rid of the original image or to install Ubuntu "normally" on the separate ext2 partition, or maybe even install it in the main vfat partition on the USB stick. Suggestions?

  • New Write Flash SSDs and more disk trays

    - by Steve Tunstall
In case you haven't heard, the Write SSDs the ZFSSA have been updated. Much faster now for the same price. Sweet. The new write-flash SSDs have a new part number of 7105026 , so make sure you order the right ones. It's important to note that you MUST be on code level 2011.1.4.0 or higher to use these. They have increased in IOPS from 6,000 to 11,000, and increased throughput from 200MB/s to 350MB/s.    Also, you can now add six SAS HBAs (up from 4) to the 7420, allowing one to have three SAS channels with 12 disk trays each, for a new total of 36 disk trays. With 3TB drives, that's 2.5 Petabytes. Is that enough for you? Make sure you add new cards to the correct slots. I've talked about this before, but here is the handy-dandy matrix again so you don't have to go find it. Remember the rules: You can have 6 of any one kind of card (like six 10GigE cards), but you only really get 8 slots, since you have two SAS cards no matter what. If you want more than 12 disk trays, you need two more SAS cards, so think about expansion later, too. In fact, if you are going to have two different speeds of drives, in other words you want to mix 15K speed and 7,200 speed drives in the same system, I would highly recommend two different SAS channels. So I would want four SAS cards in that system, no matter how many trays you have.
