  Hello. VIM can be configured to highlight current line via :hi cursorline guibg=green and set cursorline commands. But if I enable tabs display via: :hi specialkey guifg=grey guibg=grey :set listchars="tab" :set list Cursor line highlight will corrupt tabs display: Any hints how i can avoid corruption so may tabs are highlighted with one color and cursor line is highlighted with another color without any ^I displayed at intersection?

• Visual Studio line deletion

  Is there any way in Visual Studio 2003 that I can delete a line without it being copied into the clipboard? There are instances when I want to copy the first line of a block of text and then delete the following n lines but this then puts the last line I deleted into the clipboard, which is very annoying. I have come from a brief keymap background and I could easily do this with Alt-D. And while I'm on the subject, why on earth have MS stopped supporting the brief keymap?

• Command to see all Windows commands

  When I type help in windows command line, it lists a whole bunch of commands. However I find that there is a whole set of commands that do not appear in this list, for e.g. many networking commands such as ping, tracert, arp, netstat, net etc. I am sure that there is also a whole bunch of non-networking command which is also not listed. So my question is this. Why are these additional commands not shown in help? Is there a subset/group of commands only that help shows? Is there any command/method to list all the commands that can be executed in windows? (I am not talking about additional .exes that get added to path when some new software is installed..)

• Pasting into Vista cmd.exe broke, why?

  I use Windows Vista x64 and regularly use the command line window CMD.EXE. I have enabled QuickEdit Mode (and Insert Mode and AutoComplete), to be able to quickly copy and paste text. Copying (select block, Enter) works fine. Pasting (right click) text also works, as long as it has been copied inside a CMD.EXE window. When I copied the text somewhere else (in an editor, browser or whatever) however, pasting into CMD.EXE does not work! :-( Using the menu to Edit, Paste does not do anything either, so it's not a mouse thing. I also tried elevating CMD.EXE. I can copy/paste freely between CMD.EXE instances of all sorts: elevated/normal, x64/x86... I'm sure it did work on this machine until relatively recently. What could have happened? Some Windows Update perhaps? The problem has been reported by others, but without a solution.

  I need a basic function to find the shortest distance between a point and a line segment. Feel free to write the solution in any language you want; I can translate it into what I'm using (Javascript). EDIT: My line segment is defined by two endpoints. So my line segment AB is defined by the two points A (x1,y1) and B (x2,y2). I'm trying to find the distance between this line segment and a point C (x3,y3). My geometry skills are rusty, so the examples I've seen are confusing, I'm sorry to admit.

• Does Windows Move command delete the file only on successful completion?

  This may be a stupid question, but I'm erring on the side of caution here. If I'm using Windows command line/batch files to Move a file from one server to another and we have a network failure, what will happen to the original file? I would assume it remains untouched until fully moved, and then deleted, but I need to be sure. My fear is that it deletes bytes as they are moved, which would be bad. If that isn't the case, is there a better way than Copying the file and Deleting after the copy completes? Thanks for your help. EDIT: I suppose super user would have been better. This is part of a job kicked off by code, so my first thought was to come here.

• Looking for a Linux stream ripper that can be scheduled

  I have an MP3 stream I want to schedule a recording of. I can do it using wget to a file, its just a straight mp3 stream. However I'd like to use a command line stream ripper that will do a better job. Any one know of one? Update 1 WGET is grabbing whatever part of the stream it comes in on. This may not really be the start of a frame in the MP3 file. Also, wget is not really schedule ready. I experimented with starting it with a cron job, then killing it later, this produced a file that didn't really start and stop where I wanted.

  I have a grid of a variable number of elements. Say 5 images per row and a variable number of images. I need to determine which column (for lack of a better word) each image is in... i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. In this grid, images 1, 6, 12 and 17 would be in column 1 while 4, 9 and 15 would be in column 4. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 What I am trying to do is apply a background image to each element based on it's column position.   For one CMD session I can easily set a new path: SET PATH=%PATH%;"insert custom path here" Doing so in a batch file does not consider whether the custom path is already included. How do I avoid duplicating it (i.e. check whether it is already contained in the PATH "string").   Does anyone know how to change these length parameters in the middle of a latex document? \paperwidth \paperheight I would like to define a page size for a single page (possibly two or three). I tried v5.3 of the geometry package, which just added some new features; like \newgeometry. Unfortunately \newgeometry cannot be used to redefine \paperheight and \paperwidth. Any help would be very appreciated.

I think i've been shown this a few times, but i don't need to do it often, so i keep forgetting.

• cat contents of one file into another file

  I have a large (binary) file that has some corruption near the beginning. Then, I have a second, smaller file that I obtain by starting to download the same file again, but interrupt after I have enough bytes to fix the original one. My question is, how do I simply overwrite the beginning of the large file with the contents of the second, smaller file? I could use cat, tail and head, but that would create a copy of the file. There must be a more efficient way. Oh yes, and I'm looking for a linux command-line solution, if that wasn't obvious. I'm using bash, but I have other shells if that helps.

• Zip files way larger on a Mac using Finder than the 'zip' command.. 2x larger.

  I have a directory of JPEG's. Each one is roughly 90k, as reported by Photoshop when saving, and also reported by the command line function 'ls'.. When I get the properties for the file with Finder, it's double that, over 220k. Zipping it with finder will also package this bulk as well. Doing the "zip -v test.zip ./dir" command will make a MUCH smaller zip file. Zipping the files on windows also results in a much smaller file size as well, roughly the same to that of the unix zip command. File sizes are also reported correctly on windows. I can't find any mention of this anywhere, so I'm asking here.

After all my encodes are done, I would like to have the PC speaker beep, as I usually turn my large external speakers off. On Linux I would install the "beep" package, but so far I haven't found such a program for Windows 7.   I could be barking up the wrong tree here, but I'm looking for help on installing Apple's Root certificate (http://www.apple.com/certificateauthority/) on a CentOS server via the command line - which I need to send messages to their APNS system. The code I'm using for this purpose is a variation on this: https://github.com/jPaolantonio/SimplePush/blob/master/simplepush.php - which works perfectly well on a Windows server, but as soon as we try to use it on a CentOS one, it falls over. We're lead to believe this has something to do with not having the CA installed on our CentOS box - but all efforts to do so have failed. As the CentOS server is headless, we need the ability to do this via the commandline. Can someone help?

  A task: To find all new files and subfolders under some root folder (let us say Documents) and to copy them to other disk (j: in this case) Command line used: robocopy c:\users\valery\documents j:\robocopy /XO /E /MAXAGE:20131030 /XD Result: A full folders tree created. Only new files copyed, as supposed. It's good A point is, that I do not want to create all subfolders on a target disk, if there are no new files in them.
