  • C# Creating A Program That Runs In The Background?

    How can I create a program that runs in the background, and can be accessed via the Windows' "Notification Area" (Where the date and time are in the lower right hand corner)?   • Convert C++Builder AnsiString to std::string via boost::lexical_cast

    For a school assignment I have to implement a project in C++ using Borland C++ Builder. As the VCL uses AnsiString for all GUI Components I have to convert all of my std::strings to AnsiString for the sake of displaying. std::string inp = "Hello world!"; AnsiString outp(inp.c_str()); works of course but is a bit tedious to write and code duplication I want to avoid. As we use Boost in other contexts I decided to provide some helper functions go get boost::lexical_cast to work with AnsiString. Here is my implementation so far: std::istream& operator>>(std::istream& istr, AnsiString& str) { istr.exceptions(std::ios::badbit | std::ios::failbit | std::ios::eofbit); std::string s; std::getline(istr,s); str = AnsiString(s.c_str()); return istr; } In the beginning I got Access Violation after Access Violation but since I added the .exceptions() stuff the picture gets clearer. When the conversion is performed I get the following Exception: ios_base::eofbit set [Runtime Error/std::ios_base::failure] Does anyone have an idea how to fix it and can explain why the error occurs? My C++ experience is very limited. The conversion routine the other way round would be: std::ostream& operator<<(std::ostream& ostr,const AnsiString& str) { ostr << (str.c_str()); return ostr; } Maybe someone will spot an error here too :) With best regards!   • Unity Launcher only runs once - requires lightdm restart before it runs again

    I have an intermittent problem that just started showing up several days ago. I am running 11.10 and all updates are current. I first saw the symptom with a custom version of the "Home" nautilus-home.desktop file I created in ~/.local.share/applications. I added a few static shortcuts to specific folders. What I found was, clikcing the icon once would open up my home folder, but after closing that nautilus window, clicking the icon again did nothing (did not even show icon backlight animation). However, I could right click on the same icon and access my short cuts as many times as I want. Symptom persisted until restarting lightdm. Just yesterday I saw the same sort of symptom happen with a custom launcher I created for a chromium-borwser to open a specific URL (with a few short cuts to other URLs). Click the icon - it works once. Then never again. Right click the icon and I can use the short cuts over and over - no problem. Note - at one point I assumed I might have a problem with my custom .desktop file, so I did a test by removing my custom nautilus-home.desktop. However, even after restarting lightdm, and verifying the home icon was the standard one from /opt/share/applications (all my custom shortcuts were gone) I saw the same symptom re-appear - it runs once and then not again until restarting lightdm. It seems to be intermittent and seems to move between various launchers. Not sure what to do or even what background data to gather. Attempt to improve question after the first answer: I tried the following: 1) remove all custom launchers 2) reboot 3) add custom lauchers back 4) reboot 5) attempt to use .... still have "runs once and never again" symptom with several launchers

  • Zend Studio Debugger returns Application Error

    When I run debug for my public/index.php I got an application error as output. I've seen that it occurs at this line: foreach($feed->findFeedEntries($entriesLimit) as $entry) If I put a breakpoint before this, all works as expected, I mean, the error is after the line above. If I remove findFeedEntries() method, I can perform debugging without erros.   • what type of bug causes a program to slowly use more processor power and all of a sudden go to 100%?

    Hi, I was hoping to get some good ideas as to what might be causing a really nasty bug. This is a program which is transmitting data over a socket, and also receives messages back. I could explain lots more, but I don't think this will help here. I'm just searching for hypothetical problems which can cause the following behaviour: program runs processor time slowly accumulates (till around 60%) all of a sudden (could be after 30 but also after 60 seconds) the processor time shoots to 100%. the program halts completely In my syslog it always ends on one line with a memory allocation (something similar to: myArray = new byte[16384]) in the same thread. now here is the weird part: if I set the debugger anywhere...it immediately stops on that line. So just the act of setting a breakpoint, made the thread continue (it wasn't running since I saw no log output anymore) I was thinking 'deadlock' but that would not cause 100% processor power. If anything, the opposite. Also, setting a breakpoint would not cause a deadlock to end. anyone else a theoretical suggestion as to what kind of 'construct' might cause this effect? (apart from 'bad programming') ;^) thanks EDIT: I just noticed.... by setting the sendspeed slower, the problem shows itself much later than expected. I would think around the same amount of packets send...but no the amount of packets send is much higher this way before it has the same problem.

Or "C10H8 + O2" and it shows "C10H8 + O2 ? CO2 + H2O". I don't need coefficient calculator, where I type full reaction and it calculates coefficients (marked bold in next example): C10H8 + 12 O2 = 10 CO2 + 4 H2O.

    How can I make a program use a MS SQL server, and have that program work on whatever computer it's installed on. If you've been following my string of questions today, you'd know that I'm making an open source and free Help Desk suite for small and medium businesses. The client application. The client application is a Windows Forms app. On installation and first launch on every client machine, it'll ask for the address of the main Help Desk server. The server. Here I plan to handle all incoming help requests, show them to the IT guys, and provide WCF services for the Client application to consume. My dilemma lies in that, I know how to make the program run on my local machine; but I'm really stumped on how to make this work for everyone who wants to download and install the server bit on their Windows Server. Would I have to make an SQL Script and have it run on the MS SQL server when a user wants to install the 'server' application? Many thanks to all for your valuable time and effort to teach me.
