• How do i get visual studio like tabs?

  Hi guys. I've had this thought for a long time in my head now and i've not been able to find the solution to it ! Please help me. I've always loved the visual studio tabs and how they look. They're small and perfect. The normal TabControl, well is -bleh- and boring ! And i've seen these tabs being used in many applications .. so, my Question is this: Is that like a DLL that is available out there that i can link in order to get this control ? • lib to read a DVD FS (data disc)

  I am thinking i might want to port a lib to read a DVD filesystem. I am not talking about movies but datadisc. Theres existing code for me to do raw reads from the disc. I need code that request this data and allow me to browse files on the disc. What lib can i use for this? -edit- NOTE: I am using an OSless hardware.   Is there any library that achieves the following: Convert Microsoft Windows 98 Microsoft Windows XP Windows 7 Windows Ultimate Desktop Windows to Windows 4 The complicated part here is to recognize that "Desktop Windows" is an anomaly here and not count it. If nothing is added before the word "Windows", perhaps it can be counted but if there is something else and the suffix does not match any popular suffix, it can still be counted. Maybe I am a little vague here but perhaps someone could have an idea about what I am talking about here. Any suggestions?

• Is the XML processing instructions node mandatory ?

  I had a discussion with a colleague of mine about the XML processing instructions node (I'm talking about this = <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>). I believe that for something to be called "valid XML", it requires a processing instructions node. My colleague states that the processing instruction node is optionnal, since the default encoding is UTF-8 and the version is always 1.0. This make sense, but what does the standard says ? In short, given the following file: <books> <book id="1"><title>Title</title></book> </book> Can we say that: It is valid XML ? It is a valid XML node ? It is a valid XML document ? • XBox 360 Dashboard Plugins

  Is it possible to create plug ins for the Xbox 360 dashboard? I was looking to turn the 360 into the hub for the family. So you could for example turn the xbox on, and there on the dashboard see all the families calendars merged, todo lists, grocery lists, birthdays etc. I can't see anybody talking about plugins for the dashboard around the net so I'm guessing you can't, but thought I'd check. Next option will be something like a net top running in the family room, but that means 2 devices then, one for gaming and one for the family functions

  I am having trouble with this menu, when I hover to the subcategories they keep slideup. I want the subcategories to remain when I hover it and when I move my mouse outside it will slideup, same go to the main categories. Please help. • Is it OK to run an array with 22k strings in a PHP code on a shared web host?

  I'm new to writing code so kindly bear with me if this is a very noobish question. A couple of days back I asked a question about a PHP code that matches the the query entered by users on my website to an array stored within the PHP code and displays the matched queries. Here is the code I'm talking about Now I've ended up with a rather large list (over 22k) of strings that have to be stored in the array. Is it ok to run it like this? I'm hosting the site on a shared hostgator package, will this cause my site to crash? I don't know too much about DBs but can I somehow store this on MySQL instead of having it in the code?

• Is there a tool that will show diagrams of my SQL database in real-time?

  I've created some diagrams of SQL tables using the "Reverse Engineer" feature of Microsoft Office Visio. I like being able to visualize my relational databases in this manner. However, what I get is just a static document that I can print, e-mail to colleagues, and click widgets on. Earlier this year, I saw at a demo that the new version of Visual Studio 2010 has a new feature called the "Architect Explorer", which allows developers to view relationships among .net classes on the fly. It has many features for filtering the data that the developer is interested in. It would be really awesome if I could visually browse my tables and stored procedures and see what is related to what by primary key, foreign key, and referenced in stored procedures. I realize that I'm talking about two entirely different technologies and it's not a perfect analogy, but is there some similar tool that would allow me to visualize tables in my SQL database?

• How are files (especially audio files) organized internally?

  I try to grok that: Apple is talking about "packets" in audio files, and there is a fancy function called AudioFileReadPackets which takes a lot of arguments. One of them specifies the "start packet", and another one the number of packets which you want to read. So I imagine an audio file to look like this, internally: It's made up of a lot of packets. If it's an audio file which has an variable bit rate format, then every packet may have a different size. If the file has an constant bit rate format, then every packet is the same size. So an audio file is like a truck full of boxes, and every box contains some interesting stuff. Is that correct? Does it apply to any kind of file? Is this how files actually look like?

  I have a Select Left Join Query whis displays me the rows for the latest changedone(its a time) column name ("field" should not be equal) column name ("trackid" should not be equal), and column name "Operation should be "UPDATE" ", below is the query I am talking about... SELECT j1. * FROM jos_audittrail j1 LEFT OUTER JOIN jos_audittrail j2 ON ( j1.trackid != j2.trackid AND j1.field != j2.field AND j1.changedone < j2.changedone ) WHERE j1.operation = 'UPDATE' AND j2.id IS NULL Now here I don't want a row to be displayed with a two particular column's value i.e. "field's value" the value is "LastvisitDate" and "hits" Now if if append the condition in the above query that " AND j1.field != 'lastvistDate' AND j1.field != 'hits' " theni do not get any result... The table structure is jos_audittrail: id trackid operation oldvalue newvalue table_name live changedone(its a time) I hope i have given the details properly If u still find something missing I will try to provide it more better way... Pls help me to avoid those two rows with those to mentioned value of "field"

  Can anyone recommend any techniques or advice for working in a noisy office? I know some people wear headphones and listen to music but I prefer silence. I work in a room with 4 others, there are no walls between us, we just each have our own desk. There is usually always someone talking, or on the phone, or on the intercom. • HTML/CSS - Image inside a li element from the navigation bar

  I have a navigation bar, and underneath a black div on which the drop-down elements from the navigation bar drops. This is not the main function of the black div. It is just for design, but it works really well. You can see here what i am talking about: http://www.ecoloc.ro/interior/test/regeneration . Now, what i want to do is that every time a main element from the navigation bar is hovered, an image big enough to cover the main element and a part of that black div beneath it will appear. • How to deploy updates to .NET website in cluster

  We are operating a corporate web application on a load-balanced cluster that consists of two identical IIS servers talking to a single MSSQL database. To deploy updates I am using this primitive process: 1) Make a copy of the entire site folder (wwwroot\inetpub\whatever) on each IIS box 2) Download the updated, compiled files onto each IIS box from our development area 3) Shut down IIS both web servers 4) Copy the new and updated files into the wwwroot folder (overwriting any same files) 5) Then restart IIS on both machines When there are database changes involved there are a few other steps. The whole process is fairly quick but it is ugly and fraught with danger, so it has to be done with full concentration. I would like to just push one button to make it all happen. And I want a one-click rollback in case there is a problem (that's the reason I make the copy in step #1). I am looking for tools to manage and improve this process. If it also helped us maintain a changelog, that would be nice. Thanks.

• Converting files to blob to save in database

  I have an old user site that we are currently updating. The site's users have previously uploaded profile pics that are stored in a directory. I am now wanting to keep these profile images in the database, (easy to backup all data) but am having trouble working out how to do it. There are a lot of tutorials talking about do ing this from files that have just been uploaded and using the tmp name etc, but how can I re-create with files that have already been uploaded? I have looked into $data = file_get_contents($filename); Which seems to create a binary file, but doesn't seem to save in database with: mysql_query("UPDATE profiles SET company_logo = mysql_real_escape_string('".$data."') WHERE id = 1 ") or die(mysql_error());

• What is a Custom Class?

  Many questions here on SO ask about custom classes. I, on the other hand, have no idea what they're talking about. "Custom class" seems to mean the same thing I mean when I say "class". What did I miss, back in the '80s, that keeps me from understanding? I know that it's possible to purchase a packaged system - for Accounting, ERP, or something like that. You can then customize it, or add "custom code" to make the package do things that are specific to your business. But that doesn't describe the process used in writing a .NET program. In this case, the entire purpose of the .NET Framework is to allow us to write our own code. There is nothing useful out of the box.

• Jetty: Mount to a directory on a different host

  I'm looking to map to a directory on a different host using Jetty/Maven when working locally. I've found you can do this w/ Apache using mod_jk (JkMount/JkUnMount), but haven't figured it how to do the same on jetty. On our dev/q/live servers, we have Apache in front of JBoss and use mod_jk to do this. Locally, we're using jetty To give you an idea of what I'm talking about, this is how you would configure Apache to accomplish this: in httpd.conf: JkMount /images/* host2 JkMount /* host2 JkUnMount /images/* host1 workers.properties: worker.list=host2,host1 worker.host2.host=host-2.theDomain.com worker.host2.port=46654 worker.host1.host=host-1.theDomain.com worker.host1.port=46655 Is there a way to configure Jetty to do the same thing? Btw, locally, I'm using the Maven plugin for Eclipse if that makes a difference. thanks!

  I have a control in ASP.NET MVC that spits out JavaScript in the page header (in the view page). I derive some values from the current view name (including its case). Let's say we are talking about the path: /Home/Index - my control spits out JavaScript to call a function with the view name - in its exact case - e.g. someFunction('Index'). Now when I try to navigate to my view using '/home/index', the view name is returned as 'index' which is causing issues in my JavaScript as I rely on the casing for it on the JS side. Is there any way to know the exact view name (as it was defined) from the path that got mapped into this view.

Such that the row might be incremented row that is if structure has a field called "id" then the row can be id++ or very next incremented row, but it may also b any other id containing row (NOT VERY NEXT) , (because the ids could be deleted from the table). the point of id I am talking about is It could be 1,2,3,4.... or it could be 1,6,7,8,23.. so on.... • Browser Detection, do's and don'ts. Is this ok?

  So, I understand that browser detection (ie. navigator.userAgent) shouldn't be used to decide which object method/property to use; yet, I want to set some simple CSS with JavaScript depending on the browser. However, it's not enough to justify a completely new StyleSheet. So is it OK if I use Browser Detection to decide what CSS to apply to an element? EDIT Ok, let's be SPECIFIC. I'm talking about a text-shadow inside a button (<input type="button"/>) The text inside the button isn't vertically centered in all browsers, so I tweak this with JS depending on the browser.

  Are there any known issues with visual studio and code being swapped between projects? I had a project running in VS2008 and when i went back to it, the code from another project had been swapped in the Program.cs class. I havent made any mistakes, im not talking about some code- i mean the whole project had been swapped out. Its as if the .proj files or .soln files had been swapped from their project folders??? EDIT Ive restarted laptop, opened the code again and its still showing the wrong code BUT when i execute it, its the right code?!?!?!

  I'm looking for an extremely light-weight lightbox for jquery. i'm trying to create my own but i suck and my fist is about to go through the screen.... i'm talking like 5kb or less.. i know it can be done, and if i knew what i was doing i'd do it... but i'm just done for the day. So, does anyone know of one? something just for images, and nothing else, no fancy crap, no extra weight, one that simply centers the lightbox in the center of the screen with whatever picture was loaded by the link. my screen will thank you...

• PHP Postgres constraint violation - can I get the constraint name somehow?

  We have a web application talking to a Postgres SQL database at work - I've set up many constraints on the server to keep data consistent but we have problems with reporting nicely what it is that prevents the user from entering his (invalid) data at a given moment. The only thing we can get is "Constraint violation" but that isn't very descriptive, from perl or directly from PGAdmin we get nice info as to which constraint caused the failure (the constraint's name) - is there a way to do the same in PHP? We're able to upgrade PHP or use a different db access module if it would help so I'm interested in knowing if it's possible to do using any way that you could safely recommend.

• What is a good rule for when to prepend members with 'this' (C#)?

  If I am accessing a member field, property, or method, I'm never sure when I should prepend it with 'this'. I am not asking about cases where it is required, like in the case where a local variable has the same name. I am talking about cases where the meaning is exactly the same. Which is more readable? Are there any standards, best practices, or rules of thumb I should be following? Should it just be consistent throughout a class, or an entire code base?
