  • VMware Workstation update stopped autofit guest working

    VMware one day offered an update (8.0.1 build-528992 my current version) from 8.0. I accepted it, because updates usually fix problems. However not in this case... Previously it worked very well. Now, it still "works" but the one glitch I'm getting makes it too hard to deal with. This screenshot will explain my problem: As you can see, my virtual PC is not resizing correctly. (This happens with any operating system), autofit guest just doesn't work - it only results in things like this happening. Thanks to the tools it becomes very hard to NOT autofit guest. I've tried uninstalling 8.0.1 completely and installing 8.0 again but with the same results. I don't really understand what the new update has done to VMware Workstation or to my virtual machines. I do believe this isn't VMware Workstation's direct fault but from VMware Tools, which would explain why going back to 8.0 didn't work since VMware tools has its own updates. How can I fix this? The host is running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

  • Network profile reverts to 'Unidentified' following Windows Update reboot

    I have searched high and low for a solution to this problem. I have multiple servers running Windows 2000 Server as well as Windows Server 2003, 2003 R2, and 2008 R2. All of these servers are on the same Active Directory domain. The servers run showing the network profile as Domain Network, which is fine and correct. However, when a Windows update is installed, the server changes the profile to Unidentified Network once it has rebooted. This then doesn't allow any traffic to the server. For security reasons, we can't turn the firewalls off for. The only way to fix the problem is to physically be in front of the machine and work on it to change the profile back. Once the Profile has been reinstated to the Domain profile, it will be fine until the next month's update. This happens on all the Windows software mentioned above. The machines are not all identical, so it's not a hardware problem either. If anyone can help I'd be very grateful.

    I'm creating a bounce email system where emails can reply to messages on my site. However when the emails are sent to the user containing the previous message, the Reply-To field contains an email something like this [email protected] (which contains the ID at the end). If the user replies, the reply message will be sent back to [email protected] which of course, doesn't have its own mailbox, except the [email protected]. How would I redirect all incoming messages coming from a specific wildcard notification-message-*@mysite.com to [email protected]? I did some research, but no solid part worked, including the luser_relay = [email protected] and putting notification-message-* in the postfix aliases table, the notification@ has a Maildir, so the emails would go into it. I am using Ubuntu 11.04.

My notebook is Acer Aspire Timelinex 3820TG and I know it's little old for Windows 8 but I install them and works fine (I updated my HDD to SSD). Now I just updated Windows and I have problem with changing brightness on my dedicated graphic card (Ati HD 5650). First I can changing brigthness with fn + keys but It just changing level in OS. No change in real. I tried reinstall drivers, install drivers for my card from Acer with compatibility to Windows 7 and without change. When I switch to integrated card changing brightness works. I think the problem is with drivers but I don't know how to get it working. Thanks for help Bonus question: I have another problem (but this one is not so important). Does anyone knows what msietxghh.exe is doing? Everytime when my system runs (after update) I get message that this program stops working but I just cancel and looks everything works fine.

  • Prevent Amazon EC2 Time zone from reverting back on yum update

    I use an Amazon EC2 server instance that runs a distro called Amazon Linux AMI. (I've read that it is based on CentOS/Red Hat). My specific version is the 2012.09 release. Anyway, I was able to change the time zone about a week ago from the default UTC to America/New_York (which is EST/EDT). The command I used to change it was: ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/America/New_York /etc/localtime ...thanks to this other Server Fault question. At that point, I was able to run date from the the command line, and it correctly displayed the EDT time. And even after EDT "fell back" to EST this past Sunday, I was pleased to find that running date still produced the correct local time. So that was great. However, after running a yum update yesterday, it seems that my time zone got reverted back to plain 'ol UTC. I even checked the last modified time of /etc/localtime file, and indeed it confirmed that it had been modified around the same time I had updated. Is there any way to prevent this from happening again, or will I be stuck resetting the time zone every time I do a yum update?

I am unable to find, where to update about newly compiled kernel in the grub.cfg file. I updated the newly created image version name in the existing image. Then VMware didn't able to load new kernel. I have searched in internet but I didn't find. So anyone can help me, to update in the grub.cfg and to successfully load new kernel. Few things about what I have done: Make bzImage to create image file. Make modules_install && make install to install modules and then sudo mkinitramfs -o initramfs.img-2.6.34 2.6.34. Then sudo gedit grub.cfg. In that at the mementry I updated the version of vmlinuz and initrd from 2.6.38-8 to 2.6.34.12. This is I have done.

  • Windows 7 BSOD on boot after windows update

    After Windows updates today, I restarted my desktop (for the first time in a couple weeks), and on boot up ran into a BSOD: STOP: 0x0000007E (0xFFFFFFFFC0000005, 0xFFFFF8000355AB5A, 0xFFFFF880031CB3A8, 0xFFFFF880031CAC10) I tried system restore, but there was only 1 restore point which was from all the way back in January. I tried it anyway but after 10 minutes of running it said system restore could not be completed. Additional info: I checked my BIOS and it is detecting my rams. CPU is Intel Sandy Bridge i5-2500k overclocked to 4.3GHz. I reclocked it back to stock speeds (3.3 GHz) in case it was causing the issue (I highly doubt that it is). But the problem persists. Running Windows 7. 12 GB of RAM at 1333 MHz OS on 64gb SSD. What is causing this? How should I fix it? Also, if it is caused by windows update, is there a way to undo the update with command prompt? I tried safemode, and the blue screen comes up as well, but I am able to access command prompt.

  • Mac OS X Server Open Directory does not push Software Update settings to clients

    I have an Xserve G5 running Mac OS X Server 10.5.8 configured as an Open Directory master. I have also enabled and configured Software Update service on the machine. The SUS is configured to serve Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard clients (see http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10297359#10297359) The clients bound to the OD are a variety of Mac's running OS X 10.4, 10.5 or 10.6. In Workgroup Manager, I have created 3 machine groups for each client OS. Each group is configured with a custom SUS URL, and the managed client computers are members accordingly (see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10493154#10493154) My problem is that the server pushes the SUS settings to some of the client machines, but not all. When I first configured all this stuff on the server (a few weeks ago) I was closely monitoring a few of the client machines to confirm that they received the custom settings. I noticed that some of the clients (10.4/5/6 alike) seemed to get the settings immediately, others didn't show the new settings until after a reboot. As I said, results are mixed across OS's, but some clients will not "sync" at all. My immediate thought was to unbind/rebind the problematic machines. I did this on several client computers with no success. For example, today I was working on one of the Tiger clients. I noticed it was not pointed at my local SUS, so I checked the OD binding; it was fine. Just to be sure I unbound the machine. Next, I checked WM and confirmed the computer record was gone. I noticed the machine group still had a residual (broken?) member from the unbound client; I manually removed this. Finally, I re-bound the client to OD and re-added the machine to it's correct group in WM. Unfortunately, the client still pings apple's SUS for updates. Just to play it safe I rebooted the client, but to no avail, it will not see my local SUS. To confirm that there is nothing wrong with the server, or the client's connection to it, forcefully pointed the machine at my SUS: sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL "$LOCAL_SUS_URL" and the machine successfully updated off my local server. Great, successful updates, but problem not solved. I've done exhaustive reading on discussions.apple.com (not saying I read everything, I'm just saying I have read a lot) without a good answer. The discouraging thing is that a lot of OD problems I've read about only result in the sysadmin completely reinstalling the server, or OD, or some other similarly heavy-handed operation. At this point, I am not willing to go that route. I still have hope that I can find the reason for this flaky behavior. If anyone can point me in a helpful direction it would be much appreciated. Which meant it could not serve SL (10.6) machines. At that time, the Software Update settings were setup in WM under User Groups. This didn't make any sense because some users work on multiple machines with different OS's. Before creating Machine Groups in WM, I deleted all the SU settings from the User Group Preferences. This just makes the whole thing more confusing, because when I see a file here: /Library/Managed Preferences/username/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist I assume it's still remaining from the "old" settings, because I wouldn't think a Machine Setting belongs there.   • Update a list from another list

    I have a list of users in local store that I need to update from a remote list of users every once in a while. Basically: If a remote user already exists locally, update its fields. If a remote user doesn't already exist locally, add the user. If a local user doesn't appear in the remote list, deactivate or delete. If a local user also appears in the remote list, update its fields. Just a simple case of syncing the local list. Is there a better way to do this in pure Java than the following? On a fresh install, the settings are added to the Setting App as expected, but upon updating from the old install, the bundle is not added. Is there some sort of trick to get the Settings App to show my Settings.bundle?

I tried running wget --mirror url, but rather than fetching the subtree only, it tried to mirror the entire site—which I assume happened due to the parent-directory links in the autogenerated index.html resources.

    I need to find out how to perform some action (flush cache) when an object of type X is updated. So when I save object of type Y, nothing is done, when I save unchanged object of type X nothing should happed, but when this object is changed and UPDATE is made, I want to know it. I tried various NHibernate events (IPostUpdateEventListener, IFlushEntityEventListener, etc.) but did not succeed. Can anybody help please? Thanks

  • Overwrite values when using gridview Edit?

    I am using a GridView which is bound to a LinqDataSource and using the automatic edit and delete buttons. However, I don't want the user to edit two of the columns manually, but done automatically. Specifically username who last updated the entry, and the date it was updated. The gridview only contains 3 columns: Name, Date modified, last updated by. Right now when the user clicks the edit button they can only edit the name column (other two set to read-only). Upon clicking the update button, I want the other 2 fields to update as well based on some extra code. I thought this was done in the code behind within the event rowUpdating, but it doesn't seem to work.
