• Is there a PROPRIETARY driver (NVIDIA or ATI) that actually works with 12.10?

  NOTE: I see many similar topics on this, but I've tried all their suggestions, and nothing has worked. THE MAIN DIFFERENCE SEEMS TO BE: I always get a black screen with a blinking cursor, while others seem to get through the boot-up and see distorted graphics or just their wallpaper. ISSUE: I do a clean install of Ubuntu 12.10. Boots fine with the “nouveau” graphics driver – graphics (even just menus) are very slow, choppy, and distorted. The three other driver options in Ubuntu (official NVIDIA drivers), all result in a variation of the black screen on boot up. There will be NO access to a command line/GUI in anyway what-so-ever (tried every option recommended out there, but the system is unusable at this stage). I can only reinstall, and try different drivers…and I only ever get one shot at it. QUESTIONS: -Does anyone know of a PROPRIETARY driver that will actually work on 12.10 with a NVIDIA or ATI card? -Should I just buy a newer graphics card to put in as a replacement? MORE INFO: This is my second computer, and I’m just trying to get a working install of Ubuntu on it. I don’t want to put much money into it, as I have seen Ubuntu run great on much older/less capable machines. I’ve got a decent'ish Core2Duo Intel processor (2.13Ghz), 2GB of RAM, 320GB hard drive, 32-bit architecture, and there is no other O/S installed. It appears as if the graphics card (NVIDIA Geforce 7350 LE) is holding me back. TRIED SO FAR: -all drivers available in Ubuntu *all fail -manual install of some different NVIDIA drivers *all fail -also tried installing the generic kernel, Nvidia driver doesn't work in 12.10 *no difference -tried installing 12.04 *same results -every method suggested to at least get a command line after switching to a NVIDIA driver *all fail -UPDATE- Re-tried everything above with a new NVIDIA Geforce 210...same results for everything. -UPDATE #2- Re-tried everything above with a new AMD Radeon HD 6450...installed the proprietary driver from Ubuntu's "Software Sources" menu...EVERYTHING NOW WORKS.   I have an old Dell Inspirion 3000 which came with Windows XP. It's still quite decent, 3 GHz P4, 2 GB RAM. I've installed windows 7 RTM (x86) & the best resolution it will do is 640x480 with a generic driver. It has an integrated Intel 8265G graphics card, and only PCI slots on the motherboard. I cannot stick another graphics card on it. Can I get a working driver for Windows 7? Official Dell website only lists XP drivers Am I destined to have the suckiness of XP on this computer forever?

• How to connect devices behind Comcast router/modem with devices behind wireless router

  I know this is going to seem like a simple solution but I have been unable to find a clear answer through Google. Simple office setup: I have a Comcast modem/router that has 4 hard wired ports. In one of those ports I have a Cisco wireless router which also has 4 of its own ports. What is the method for getting devices behind the modem/router to ping/communicate with devices behind the wireless router? They are all on the same subnet but the IP ranges differ. The router produces 192.168.1.1 by default while the Comcast modem/router produces 10.1.10.1 by default. I think what I'm attempting to do might be considered "extending" the modem/router's network but I'm not sure. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

  Does anyone know if there are any USB network adapters out there that have both wired and wireless networking capability? Far-fetched, I know, but thought I'd ask. Background: Some of our users have locked down laptops that we also include unlocked virtual machines running on VMware Player. Sometimes the users have a need for network connectivity with their VMs where NAT and bridged networking from the host won't work. To supplement this, we want to supply them with adapters that they can use VMware USB pass through capabilities to provide appropriate connectivity. They will need both wired and wireless capability. Rather than carrying around 2 adapters, was hoping we could get a combination unit so that we can reduce it to 1. Thanks

• Nt4.0 Printer Driver not compatible with Vista?

  I've got a Brother Fax-8360P printer that has a standard printer port so it can be connected to my WindowsXP machine. I've found some drivers on the net that work and it is a pretty decent laser printer. However, when I try and connect up to it from my Vista machine over the network, it tells me that "The printer driver is not compatible with a policy enabled on your computer that blocks NT4.0 drivers". Main question - is it possible to alter this so that my Vista machine will allow me to print via the network. Secondary question - does anyone know of any generic driver that will work instead?

  I'm having a complete 'mare of a time trying to use my schools Digital Blue cameras. We've got the model 3 ones, but can't find the driver disc and using the Windows Hardware Installation Wizard gets me no where! Can you help me to find the driver? When I've used it at my old school it had a piece of software called the Digital Movie Creator, which I've heard you can use to make stop-motion films, which is what I want to do! • RAID driver to choose for slipstreaming XP installation on ASUS P5S800

  I'm trying to install Windows XP on my new SATA drive but I need to first slipstream the drivers with nLite. I've done this before, but not on an ASUS P5S800 - VM motherboard. I'm not used to the number of choices it gives me for drivers in SiS chipsets. When I look through the folder that I downloaded from ASUS for the RAID driver, I see many folders with different versions of the driver. Here are the folders or versions given. 180ob 964_180 965 966_968 What drivers do I need to add in order to get XP on my SATA disk?

• Linux box acting as wireless access point to share the internet connection

  A linux machine is connected to internet over two interfaces ppp0 and ppp1 using two modems. Also this machine acts as wireless access point through an interface say, eth0 with ip address 192.168.1.1 and acts as gateway for the connected devices through this network with subnet mask 255.255.255.0 Now is it possible to achieve the following: When any of the connected devices through wireless AP needs internet connection linux machine has to use ppp1 interface for internet. If any of the applications on the linux machine needs internet connection linux machine should use ppp0 interface for the internet. Can this be achieved by adding rules to chains in filter/nat tables? If the kernel routing table has a default rule to route the default traffic through interface ppp0, wil kernel completely ignore ppp1 for internet? PS: new to networking and routing concepts, If the question is not clear leave a comment, will try to give more information.

• afp/smb transfers caps at 2 megabytes/sec, wireless N

  I wanted to transfer files between two mac computers. The network is wireless-N and both computers have wireless-N modules in them. The problem is that when I transfer files between them, via file sharing (afp) the network speed caps at 2 megabytes/sec. Just downloading files from the internet I can get faster speeds, so this isn't a constriction of my wifi bandwidth, it appears to be a constriction of the protocol being used. My wifi-n is set to 130mbits, so I should see real world transfer speeds around 12-16 megabytes/sec I did this command on both computers sudo sysctl -w net.inet.tcp.delayed_ack=0 which is supposed to lower tcp overhead, but this did not affect it. How can I get the speed I am expecting?

• Acer Aspire 3820TG video card driver issue for Windows 8 Pro

  The model for Acer laptop is ATI mobility Radeon 5650. I am using Windows 8 Pro from MSDN. It was working fine until two days ago when Microsoft pushes an update. After the update, my video card stops working and I only see black screen after loading splash screen. I can go in Safe Mode. I tried to install driver from AMD website but it failed with error message "load detection driver failed". Anyone else have the same issue? Any idea how to solve this? I need to go in Win8 for my latest development.

• SOHO NETGEAR wireless router disconnects when downloading torrents

  I have a NETGEAR WGT624 wireless router at home which dies when there is a heavy torrent load. I open up my torrent client and it downloads for about 5 to 10 minutes and it continues to increase the number of seeds (goes up to 70-80 seeds), but after that the router simply fails and I have to restart it in order to get an internet connection again. When I connect directly via an ethernet cable the router and open up the torrent client, then it seems to be doing fine, but when I go wireless then the router stops working properly (although all the lights are still blinking as normal). Is there any way that I can fix this? New router firmware? Change some router options? Feed it a cookie? Anything?

  I'm hoping to get some suggestions for possible Wireless Access point/router models which will allow us to have two separate networks. We run an internal network on 10.x.x.x IP range where we have shares and other network resources for which we would like to have our regular users access. However, we would also like to offer a separate wireless network for guests which ideally would be on 192.168.x.x and these users would not be able to see any of the resources sitting on the 10.x.x.x network. Anyone have any recommendations on single devices that might be able to get the job done? I was looking at the Linksys E4200 and it seems to support what I'm looking to do... any others? • Wireless printer going offline upon entering power save mode

  I recently bought a printer, Samsung ML1865W, a wireless laser printer. It works very well, wirelessly until after a while, it goes to power save mode when the printer goes offline. I then cannot connect to the printer (pinging the ip and various ports associated with it do not give any response) until I power cycle the printer. I have checked my wireless settings and my router, I have installed the printer software in WinXP, Win2000 and in Mac and the printer behaves just the same. Any ideas if the printer hardware itself is broken or that its something on my network/application side that's the culprit. If you own the printer, have you had any trouble like that at any time?

• ATI Driver for HP Pavilion dv2 notebook?

  I'm looking for a Windows XP Professional (32-bit) ATI video driver for an HP Pavilion dv2 (model 1118nr). I've downloaded and run several drivers packages, but none have worked so far. The notebook has a sticker on it that reads, "ATI Radeon Premium Graphics 3000 Series" The notebook has an AMD Athlon Neo 64 CPU and it came with Vista 64, but I have a requirement to run 32-bit Windows XP. Does such a driver exist, and if so, where is it? I've tried the AMD ATI graphics drivers portal, but the "Mobility Radeon" section does not list the 3000 series. The "Radeon" section does list the 3000 series, but the package I downloaded and installed from there was not helpful. I also selected "All Graphics - Notebook" on the "Search Drivers and Downloads" page, then selected "Windows XP Professional/Home" on the OS drop down, pressed "Submit", and downloaded and installed the only choice (this single choice is listed twice), but again, it didn't seem to help.

  I just upgraded memory to 4GB for Sony Vaio VGN-SZ460N laptop and trying to install Windows 7 x64. All works fine with default drivers, except video - I am not able to set resolution more than 1024x768. Technical specification says that this model is using: Chipset : Intel® 945GM Processor : NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7400 notebook graphics processing unit (GPU) and Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 I was trying to use Intel 945GM driver, for Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and get error: This computer does not meet the mininum requirements for installing the software Also, I was trying to download nVidia GeForce Go 7400 x64 but it says that there is no compatible hardware. Actually, it has disclaimer that those drivers doesn't work for Sony vaio and recomendation to use OEM website. Sony website has only 32-bit version of driver which says that it cannot be installed and x64 should be used... Any ideas?

  I have installed Windows 7 on MacBook Pro using BootCamp. Usually when turning my Bluetooth headset on and trying to pair it with Mac for the first time, Windows would fail to install drivers and open solution in Action Center, which suggests to download the driver from the Broadcom webpage. This worked before and drivers would install and work. However now, when I start driver installer, it would get stuck at "Detecting Bluetooth Device" stage. Below the steps there is also a warning with text, which says "Please plug in or turn ob your Bluetooth device". This is how the installer looks like when it's stuck: I have tried turning my headset on/off, bringing it into pairing mode, installing/uninstalling device to/from the Bluetooth Devices. None of these worked. Any ideas?

• How to set up wireless access on a Cisco router

  Hi, I've set up my 877W according to the configuration listed in this forum post: IPTV over Cisco 877 (It's the working configuration at the bottom of the post) Note that I have an 877W, so it also has a wireless radio. Now, I've gotten the whole setup to work, so IPTV is working, and I can access the internet via the ethernet ports. Now I'm trying to figure out how to allow access via the dot11radio interface. I've gathered that I basically need to create a bridge group, and bridge the radio to the internet VLAN. However, when I add a bridge-group 2 command to VLAN1, it seems to take down the whole internet VLAN. (The IPTV continues to work.) This makes the router itself inaccessible (I've got a laptop, so no serial) and I end up having to reboot the router. Can anyone tell me how to a) Allow wireless access to the internet (preferably with WEP, to match my old router) b) Determine what makes the router inaccessible when I add the new bridge group c) Forward the IPTV traffic onto a machine on my internet VLAN

  I've to faced kinda of missing drivers after formatted Windows .. Especially, Graphic Drivers, Touch-pad driver, finger print driver and so forth are sensitive . They do not work without installing drivers. I can even download at its official website . But some drivers are not found in the website. .. Thus, I'm looking for a solution ( may be a software ) that can backup my drivers effectively ( if it can do with schedule, it'll be great) and can restore easily locally .   I have a Cisco 2500 wireless controller and four lightweight access points. I want to use the controller to manage a wireless network secured by WPA only, without using RADIUS or anything else. We'll handle the authentication using a captive portal behind the access points. However, it seems like the controller's default security policy requires a RADIUS server and I can't find out how to switch the policy off. The documentation assumes I'm in an environment which needs heavy-duty security and the use case is actually a small charity/business with much less stringent security requirements. How do I disable the complicated security policy and instead run a simple one that just uses WPA?

• Volume display for laptop missing after driver update

  I have a Dell Inspiron 1520, and I just updated my audio drivers to be able to use Stereo Mix. It's a SigmaTel audio driver. Prior to the update, whenever I used the hardware buttons to update volume or mute/unmute speakers, it would always have a nice display like this one: But, for volume instead of screen brightness. The hardware buttons still work fortunately, but the volume display is gone. Is there a place I can configure this setting and re-enable it? The speaker icon in task tray was also disabled with the update, but I re-enabled that from the Control Panel. Is this simply gone with the driver update? Thanks for the help!

• Removing a malware that sets up as a system driver

  Hello, I recently tried to fix up my mother's computer which has some serious malwares. One of them apparently registered itself as system driver (tjbijkoq.sys if that can help) and after running a malware suppression tool, the computer won't boot anymore, complaining about a "critical driver that is missing". I think deleting the matching entry in the registry would just solve the problem, but obviously I can't boot up the computer (even in safe mode) to fix it. Do you guys have any experience with such an issue and how to solve this ? Thank you very much. The operating system is Windows Vista 32 bits Professional
