• Build dynamic LINQ?

  Hi Im using #LINQ# to query data, but can anyone tell me how to build the query dynamically, if the user only wants to report on say 1 of the 3 fields? • Can't connect to EC2 instance in VPC (Amazon AWS)

  I've taken the following steps: Created a VPC (with a single public subnet) Added an EC2 instance to the VPC Allocated an elastic IP Associated the elastic IP with the instance Created a security group and assigned it to the instance Modified the security rules to allow inbound ICMP echo and TCP on port 22 I've done all this and I still can't ping or ssh into the instance. If I follow the same steps minus the VPC bits I am able to set this up without issue. What step am I missing?

• Does flex not support hashmaps?

  I have a Flex object which collects a DTO from the server. All the fields arrive filled in correctly except for the one that is a HashMap. It arrives as null. I've tried giving it a type of both ArrayCollection and Dictionary, but that hasn't fixed it. Does anyone know if there's an inherent incomaptability between Java HashMap and Flex? If not, what might I be doing wrong here? I'm looking at my jboss console and I see the data being populated correctly in the server side before delivery to the client. However, as it gets to the client, that field is null. I'm ready to kill myself.

• Ajax data two-way data binding strategies?

  I'd like to 1) Draw create form fields and populate them with data from javascript objects 2) Update those backing objects whenever the value of the form field changes Number 1 is easy. I have a few js template systems I've been using that work quite nicely. Number 2 may require a bit of thought. A quick google search on "ajax data binding" turned up a few systems which seem basically one-way. They're designed to update a UI based on backing js objects, but don't seem to address the question of how to update those backing objects when changes are made to the UI. Can anyone recommend any libraries which will do this for me? It's something I can write myself without too much trouble, but if this question has already been thought through, I'd rather not duplicate the work.

  I need to implement a bi-directional communication between Microsoft Dynamics CRM and a 3rd party server. The ideal scenario is as follows: User tries to create an entity in CRM In pre-create hook a 3rd party library function is called (or web service or whatever), filled with relevant info, which tries to create the respective entity on the server If the call fails, creation fails in CRM If the call succeeds, the entity is created in the CRM AND additional fields are filled with return values from the call More specifically, I want to do something like this when user tries to create a new entity instance: try { ExternalWebService.CreateTrade(ref TradeInfo info) //this was initialized on the external server myCRM_Trade_Entity.SerialNo = info.SerialNo; CreateNew(myCRM_Trade_Entity); } catch (whatever) { fail; } What would be the suggested way to do this?   I am new to creating work item types in TFS and want to create a new Work Item type. I looked at work item template option, but that is not sufficient for me. I need to add few new fields and have a customized form. From search I got information about Work Item Type definition but I am looking for some detailed example. Also I would like to know the permissions needed to add a new work item type. I got administrator privileges for my project, but not on TFS as a whole. With that can I add a new template for my project. Please provide me direction.

• Remove certain keys from a dictionary in python

  I'm trying to construct a dictionary that contains a series of sets: {Field1:{Value1, Value2, Value3}, Field2{Value4}} The trouble is, I then wish to delete any fields from the dictionary that only have one value in the set. I have been writing code like this: for field in FieldSet: if len(FieldSet[field]) == 1: del(FieldSet[field]) But receive the error "RuntimeError: dictionary changed size during execution". (Not surprising, since that's what I'm doing.) It's not the be-all and end-all if I have to knock together some sort of workaround, but is it possible to do this?

• Databinding Error when Recreating object

  Hi All, Figure there is a simple solution to this problem but I have been unable to find it. I have databinding in an ASP.Net application to a GridView. This gridview is bound to an ObjectDataSource as per standard usage. The problem I have is that one of my bound fields uses the property DataFormatString="{0:C}" and due to the currency format being displayed when an update is attempted and the object recreated I get a error as such "$13.00 is not a valid value for Decimal." Clearly this is a result of the column using a FormatString and then attempting to bind it back to a decimal property I have in my object called UnitPrice. I am assuming there is some markup I can set that can specify how the value is translated back? Thanks in advance for any help.

Below I have code which works for lists - it is implemented in my service layer, but also I want to execute this code when I just get one item from the database and execute is as well in different services where I'm accessing Customers data as well. • What are some best practises and "rules of thumb" for creating database indexes?

  I have an app, which cycles through a huge number of records in a database table and performs a number of SQL and .Net operations on records within that database (currently I am using Castle.ActiveRecord on PostgreSQL). I added some basic btree indexes on a couple of the feilds, and as you would expect, the peformance of the SQL operations increased substantially. Wanting to make the most of dbms performance I want to make some better educated choices about what I should index on all my projects. I understand that there is a detrement to performance when doing inserts (as the database needs to update the index, as well as the data), but what suggestions and best practices should I consider with creating database indexes? How do I best select the feilds/combination of fields for a set of database indexes (rules of thumb)? Also, how do I best select which index to use as a clustered index? And when it comes to the access method, under what conditions should I use a btree over a hash or a gist or a gin (what are they anyway?).

• trigger onchange event manually

  Hi all, I'm setting a date-time textfield value via a calendar widget. Obviously, the calendar widget does something like this : document.getElementById('datetimetext').value = date_value; What I want is : On changing value in the date-time textfield I need to reset some other fields in the page. I've added a onchange event listener to the datetimetext field which is not getting triggered, because I guess onchange gets triggered only when the element gets focus & its value is changed on losing focus. Hence I'm looking for a way to manually trigger this onchange event (which I guess should take care of checking the value difference in the text field). Any ideas ? Thanks in advance, Anitha

• Wordpress order/sort problem

  Hi, The Problem: I would like to sort my posts based on custom fields, when the user clicks on a link. I don't know if there is a parameter that can be passed via url to reorder posts. Comparison: I would like it to work similar to how you can sort songs in iTunes. The user simply clicks the "Artist" button and the songs are reorder alphabetically by artist's name. Example: The custom field could be the location where I was when I wrote the post. "Location = home" or "Location = office" etc. When the user click a links the page is reload with the posts reordered. Posts from home before ones from the office. Thanks for the help.

• Mysql: Convert DB from local time to UTC

  I need to convert an existing (datetime fields) db from local time ut UTC. The values are stored ad datetimes on a server with time zone CET (+1) (with summertime +2). When selecting data I use UNIX_TIMESTAMP(), which magically compensates for everything, ie, time zone shift and dst (if i've read the docs right). I'm moving the db to a new server with UTC as system time. Simply subtracting -1 H won't work, as summer time is +2. Any ideas for a clever way to do this? (using sql or some script lang)

• How can I accept a hash mark in a URL via $_GET?

  From what I have been able to understand, hash marks (#) aren't sent to the server, so it doesn't seem likely that I will be able to use raw PHP to parse data like in the URL below: index.php?name=Ben&address=101 S 10th St Suite #301 I'm looking to pre-populate form fields with this $_GET data. How would I do this with Javascript (or jQuery), and is there a fallback that wouldn't break my form for people not using Javascript? Currently if there is a hash (usually in the address field), everything after that is not parsed in or stored in $_GET.

My guess is it's something to do with how I'm handling the initial vector/salt. I'm not very crypto-savvy but I'm thinking I should be able to take the sample clear-text and produce the same encrypted value in Java as ColdFusion produced. I am able to encrypt/decrypt my own data with my Java code (so I'm consistent) but I cannot match nor decrypt the ColdFusion sample encrypted value. I have access to a local webservice that can test the encrypted output. The given ColdFusion output sample passes/decrypts fine (of course). If I try to decrypt the same sample with my Java code (using the actual key and salt) I get a "Given final block not properly padded" error. • DTO and mapper generation from Domain Objects

  I have plenty of java domain objects that I need to transform to DTOs. Please, don't start with the anti-pattern thing, the Domain Objects are what they are because of a long history, and I can't modify them (or not too much, see below). So, of course, we've passed the age of doing all that manually. I've looked around, and dozer seems the framework of choice for DTO mapping. But... what I'd really like is this: annotate classes and fields that I want in DTO, and run a tool that would generate the DTOs and the mappers. Does that sound too unreasonable? Does such a tool already exist?

If a String is given, its added as a class to the label. If a Function is given, its called with the label (as a jQuery object) as its only argument. That can be used to add a text like "ok!". Currently I'm only object given to me is the label, and I can only add text to it. Now what I want is to have unique success message. For example: username field will have a success message: 'username okay!' email = 'email seems right' something along those lines, instead of displaying just one generic success message on all the fields. • Problem with a SQL statement

  I'm trying to enter values into a database table using a form and a PHP function. The PHP seems to be fine as the SQL statement it creates looks okay, but the database always throws up an error. This is the SQL statement that my code has generated (with arbitrary values): INSERT INTO Iteminfo ('itemName', 'itemSeller', 'itemCategory', 'itemDescription', 'itemPrice', 'itemPostage', 'itemBegin', 'itemEnd', 'buynow', 'itemPicture') values ('gorillaz album', 'ben', 'music', 'new one ', '5.00', '1.00', '2010-03-15 14:59:51', '2010-03-16 14:59:51', '0', 'http://www.thefader.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/gorillaz-plastic-beach.jpg') This throws up an error both when I use the PHP function to evaluate the query and also when I use phpMyAdmin to enter the query manually. However, I can't see anything wrong with it. Can anyone shed some light on this? All of the fields are VARCHAR values, except for itemPrice and itemPostage (which are stored as DECIMAL(4,2)) and the itemBegin and itemEnd, which are stored as DATETIMEs.

• Spring: Inject static member (System.in) via constructor

To be more flexible, I thought it would be nice to only depend on java.io.Input-/OutputStream, instead of accessing System.in/out directly. I renamed the class ConsoleClient to StreamClient, added setters and made sure that the instance fields are used instead of System.in/out. • mysql select query problem

  i have a form that has a multiple select drop down. a user can select more than one options in the select. the name of the select is array[]; using php i implode(",",$array) in mysql db, it stores the field as a text in this format "places"= "new york, toronto, london" when i want to display these fields i explode the commas. i am trying to run a report to display the places. here is my select: "select * from mytable where db.places .. userSelectedPlaces" how can i check toronto in lists of "places" that user selected? note "places" in the db might be either just "toronto" or it might be comma separated lists of places like "ny, toronto, london, paris, etc".

• Simple way to use Foreign Key values for sorting?

  Disclaimer: I jumped to C# 2008 recently and SubSonic 3 (3.0.0.4) at the same time. I haven't used Linq for much of anything in the past. Is there an easy way to use the foreign key display value for sorting, rather than the FK Id (which is numeric)? I've added a new Find method in my ActiveRecord.tt to help with sorting based on a string field name but after doing some testing I realized that even though its working as it should be, I am not handling foreign key fields at all (they are just sorting by their value). Even if I need to change how I am accessing the data it is early enough in the project to do that. Just looking for suggestions.

  Hi , I am doing a web application in ZF + Doctrine 1.2.3 but i had an old database , it had pretty good structure so i think i can reverse engineer it with doctrine commad ./dcotrine generate-models-db , its amazing but i stopped when i wanted to use some doctrine behaviors like : searchable as an example , my question : if i went to my model and added these two lines : $this->actAs('Searchable', array( 'fields' => array('title', 'content') ) ); i am not sure if that enough and would work as expected , if you had any more tips about creating other behaviors like (versionable , i18n , sluggable or soft delete ) manually or reverse engineer it with doctrine behaviors , could you please list them
