UEFI - Linux Mint Boot from USB Doesn't work

I'm running Linux Mint (only OS other than in VirtualBox) and wanting to remove it. I've created a Live USB of Windows 8 using Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool - Yes, I know it says Windows 7 but I've been doing research and I am hearing from everywhere that it also works for Windows 8. The ISO was loaded on just fine (AFAIK) Computer came with Windows 8 pre-installed I have Safe boot and Fast boot disabled in the BIOS Settings I have USB as my first boot option I have tried both the USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports Yet, Mint is all that will boot up. Anybody have a similar issue? If it helps, the computer is a Toshiba Satellite S855D Laptop with an AMD APU quad-core processor (3 CPU, 1 GPU)

Jquery and Ajax Post issue

Hello guys I am trying to add a click event on the element that is return from the server via ajax. Apparently, I have to attached my js file inside my return response instead of my main script. Is this the best practice? Do I have to create the separated js file to add event on the return text?? Outlook - Out Of Office can't set

Exchange 2007, Outlook 2010 Error when setting Out Of Office (Automatic Replies) from Outlook: Your automatic reply settings cannot be displayed because the server is currently unavailable. Try again later. Setting this through OWA works fine. Autodiscover is working, and all addresses are resolvable through DNS. Outlook profile created from scratch. Anonymous access disabled for EWS/OWA (IIS on Exchange box). I'm out of steam for troubleshooting. Any ideas?

Internet explorer crashes in VM Player

My internet explorer is hanging whenever I open it, and all the buttons under Tools menu got disabled. and it always says Connecting... but it will never connects. So I debugged and came to know that IE is opening on some user on VMPlayer not as the user logged in, in my case Administrator. When I open it as 'Run as administrator' it opens fine. By the way I logged into my system as administrator not as a normal user, but still it opens with some other user. Can some one solve this issue. Thanks

Getting jQuery datepicker to attach to a TextBox within a ListView

I am using the jQuery Datepicker without any problem for TextBox controls that are non-templated. However, I am unable to get the datepicker to work with a TextBox that is in an EditItemTemplate of a ListView control. Why does iChat Server keep connecting to proxy.eu.jabber.org?

I have OS X Server 10.6.5 running on a new Mac Mini (server model), serving several functions among which is iChat Server (iChat and Pidgin on Windows as clients). In the iChat log in Server Admin, I kept seeing entries about connecting to proxy.eu.jabber.org. It's for our office network and I wasn't excited about external access to it, so I disabled server-to-server XMPP federation and now the connections just time out. But why is it doing that in the first place? Sample log entry: (datetime) (servername)jabberd/resolver[portnum]: [xmpp-server._tcp.proxy.eu.jabber.org resolved to 208.68.163.220:5269 (300 seconds to live) then: sending dialback auth request for route '(full server hostname)/proxy.eu.jabber.org' A couple minutes later, it comes back with: dialback for outgoing route '(full server hostname)/proxy.eu.jabber.org' timed out

Attaching event on the fly with prototype

Hi, I've been scratching my head over this for an hour... I have a list of todo which has done button on each item. Every time a user clicks on that, it's supposed to do an Ajax call to the server, calling the marking function then updates the whole list. The problem I'm facing is that the new list has done buttons as well on each item. And it doesn't attach the click event anymore after first update. How do you attach an event handler on newly updated element with prototype? Same SCSI drive appears multiple times on the controller list

Hi, I have an Adaptec AHA-2940UW SCSI adapter, to which I connected a single Atlas 10K III drive (and nothing more). When my computer loads up, the pre-OS Adaptec screen shows (I believe this is called the POST screen), where I can see the Atlas drive listed many times (i.e. with ID0, ID1, ... ID5, ID7, ID8,...,ID15 [ID6 is the adapter itself]) Using the same HD on an Adaptec AHA-2940UB the disk only shows once Since my OS hasn't been installed yet, I'm not sure if this is a problem (I would guess it is), and if so - how to solve it. Termination and multiple LUNs come mind, but the cable provides termination and I don't see why a hard drive would request multiple LUNs, especially considering it is not jumpered at all, and multuple LUN support is disabled in the Adaptec controller BIOS (via the SCSISelect utility) Thank you

Simple jQuery toggle() and return false inside click()

I'm mostly a djangonaut and phper, but I'm getting javascript development. I've been looking at this very simple block for a feedback widget on a page. So simple that I feel pretty dumb for this one. The jQuery is just supposed to disable the link and slide out the feedback-widget div. That's it. Modularizing web applications

Hey all, I was wondering how big companies tend to modularize components on their page. Facebook is a good example: There's a team working on Search that has its own CSS, javascript, html, etc.. There's a team working on the news feed that has its own CSS, javascript, html, etc... ... And the list goes on They cannot all be aware of what everyone is naming their div tags and whatnot, so what's the controller(?) doing to hook all these components in on the final page?? Note: This doesn't just apply to facebook - any company that has separate teams working on separate components has some logic that helps them out. EDIT: Thanks all for the responses, unfortunately I still haven't really found what I'm looking for - when you check out the source code (granted its minified), the divs have UIDs, my guess is that there is a compilation process that runs through and makes each of the components unique, renaming divs and css rules.. any ideas? EDIT 2: Thanks all for contributing your thoughts - the bounty went to the highest upvoted answer. The question was designed to be vague- I think it led to a really interesting discussion. Wake computer from sleep/standby without BIOS support for WOL?

Just bought a new home server and the nice folks at HP disabled the Wake-On-Lan feature in my motherboard. Are there any other options for waking the computer from Sleep/Standby mode? I'd like to take advantage of power savings wherever I can. I realize that I won't be able to wake it from shutdown, short of putting together some Rube Goldberg machine. EDIT: I'd like to be able to wake the machine on demand, remotely. So I can then RDP into it, or access files, etc.

Internet Explorer 9 auto "feeling lucky" for gmail bing search

When Im at school and using school computers, i have to use has IE9. When I want to access my gmail, I type in "gmail" in the URL bar, and thus IE9 does a bing search. The page half loads (As in, loads just about every thing but the search results) and then opens my gmail, kinda like google's "i'm feeling lucky". My question is this: Why? IE9 doesn't have the URL of gmail, as i can watch the bing search load, and then the url changes to gmail, and it only happens for Gmail, having tired with searching Google and Facebook in the same method. The computer is running Windows 7 with Windows Aero disabled, and limited account privileges. While its a cool thing, I would like to known what causes it to happen. Thanks

IIS not listening over external network, all other traffic working

Hello there, I have a very odd situation, I have a server (let's call it X) running 2008 R2 with two NIC's in it, one is connected to the work domain and has a subnet of 192.168.10.0/24 the other is connected to a ADSL connection and has a subnet of 192.168.1.0/24. The server has IIS installed. On the ADSL connection I have setup a dynamic dns and port forwarding to allow external HTTP, HTTPS, FTP and RDP connections. FTP and RDP are working fine however neither HTTP or HTTPS are working at all. I can browse the websites by going to localhost on the machine, the HTTP and HTTPS ports appear as "Filtered" when I try to scan them using PortQueryUI and browsers respond with a "Server took too long to load or was not responding" error. This was working fine just a few days ago, Windows firewall is disabled I don't have any software firewall on it. And I'm really lost. Any help would be great.

Why open source it? And how to get real involvement?

For me the main goal of open sourcing something is collaboration. If the most that other developers are going to do is take it and use it and report bugs to me, then I might as well close source it. Closed source provides me with all that. I was recently looking at a small javascript library (or more like a plugin, 1000 lines of code) that's actually quite popular. There were some bugs in it because new browsers and browser versions get released everyday and these bugs just pop up as a result. What bothered me is that these bugs would actually be quite easy to fix by even intermediate javascript developers, but for an entire month no one stepped up to fix the bug and submit the fixed version. The original author was apparently busy for that month, but that's the point of open sourcing your code: so that others can use it and help themselves AND the project if they can. So this makes me doubt the promise of open source. If people aren't working on it too, I might as well close source my new projects. And how do you get people involved so that open sourcing is worth it?

perfmon reporting higher IOPs than possible?

We created a monitoring report for IOPs on performance counters using Disk reads/sec and Disk writes/sec on four servers (physical boxes, no virtualization) that have 4x 15k 146GB SAS drives in RAID10 per server, set to check and record data every 1 second, and logged for 24 hours before stopping reports. These are the results we got: Server1 Maximum disk reads/sec: 4249.437 Maximum disk writes/sec: 4178.946 Server2 Maximum disk reads/sec: 2550.140 Maximum disk writes/sec: 5177.821 Server3 Maximum disk reads/sec: 1903.300 Maximum disk writes/sec: 5299.036 Server4 Maximum disk reads/sec: 8453.572 Maximum disk writes/sec: 11584.653 The average disk reads and writes per second were generally low. I.e. for one particular server it was like average 33 writes/sec, but when monitoring in real-time it would often spike up to several hundreds and also sometimes into the thousands. Could someone explain to me why these numbers are significantly higher than theoretical calculations assuming each drive can do 180 IOPs? Additional details (RAID card): HP Smart Array P410i, Total cache size of 1GB, Write cache is disabled, Array accelerator cache ratio is 25% read and 75% write

How can I disable DPMS temporarily in X under a modern linux?

Historically if you wanted to control blanking and DPMS in X, you could do it with xset. Issuingxset -dpms on my laptop results in xset q returning "DPMS is Disabled", as it should. But my screens still turn off. I'm running an up-to-date Arch Linux using KMS with integrated Intel graphics, I'm not running GNOME or willing to use anything that needs something like it. I am however stuck with DBUS and HAL. I've tried fiddling with the various timeouts, and it hasn't helped - specifically, changing the timeouts seems to be able to turn off the screen sooner, but not stop it from turning off :) This makes me suspect that there's something else overriding the setting. Is there any way to get xset to actually function as it used to, or at least stop lying to me? Note that I don't want to permanently disable DPMS or blanking - just to be able to control it when I need to.

Network card dies when trying to wake up laptop from sleep

I have a Dell XPS 1640 laptop (aka Dell Studio XPS 16), running Vista. Whenever the laptop wakes up from sleep, my Broadcomm LAN card immediately dies. Any attempt to access it completely locks up whichever program I use to access it. There appears to be no way to re-awaken the card, other than rebooting; note that Vista does not even shut down properly if some program is waiting for the card. So far, I have tried the following: Disabled the "allow your computer to shut down this device to save power" in the device properties. This had no effect. Attempted to disable and then enable the card in the device properties. No effect. Tried ipconfig /renew: this locks up ipconfig to the point where I can't even kill its process. Force-install updated drivers from broadcomm: no effect. Does anyone have any other ideas ?

Port Forwarding on Actiontec GT704-WG Router Issues

I am trying to setup a server at customer's location that has the Actiontec GT704-WG DSL router. The port forwarding it not working at all. Here's the details: Server: OpenSuse Linux box with a static IP address of 192.168.1.200 Application running accepting connections on port 8060 Firewall disabled Local connections (within the network) working properly Router: Updated to latest firmware available DHCP range set to 192.168.1.69-192.168.1.199 to not have any conflicts with the server Firewall set to "off" Rule set in the "Applications" setting to forward 8060 TCP and UDP to 192.168.1.200 machine (I've tried using the "TCP,UDP" option as well as both individual options) I've also tried just simply putting the server in the DMZ to see if I could connect to anything, but still nothing. Looking for any clues before I call and waste hours explaining the issue to tech support.

Port forwarding through a client bridge

I am having a problem with port forwarding with a client bridge. My main router is a 2wire router from AT&T using their firmware. It is a Router/Modem. In my room, there is a Linksys WRT54GL with DD-WRT on it. I have set up the DD-WRT one as a Client bridge for my PC. I can access the internet on my computer using it but when I try and port forward, the ports stay closed. I am port forwarding on my main router (2wire) and it doesn't work. I have checked online and all I see is that I should only need to forward on the main router since the client bridge has NAT disabled, but it seems to not work that way. Any ideas?
