  • The Lease Standard Train is Back on Track

    - by Theresa Hickman
As I was walking to the elevator, I ran into Seamus Moran, our resident accounting expert. Me: “Hi Seamus, where have you been? You don’t write, you don’t call, and you don’t send me flowers. I’ve been hearing more and more about the Lease Accounting topic. It looks like Congress is weighing in on it too and putting heat on FASB. According to a recent article in Reuters  “representatives Brad Sherman, a Democrat, and Republican John Campbell, have written to the U.S. Financial Accounting Standards Board warning of dire economic fallout from a plan to have companies put leases on their balance sheets." Here’s what Seamus had to say: Yes, but there have been some recent developments. The FASB and IASB cleared a logjam, resolved a final “content of the standard” issue, and articulated a way to move forward on Leases last Wednesday.  It looks like the Lease Standard Train is back on track.   We’ve just had a briefing from PwC. The Lease timeline now looks like this: Now to June 2012: The staff will write up the decisions June 2012: Boards will meet on “logistical” issues (glossed over) Oct, Nov, most likely December 2012: A New Lease Exposure Draft will be crafted January – April 2013: Public Comment period begins April to September 2013: Everyone to digest the comments and draft the final standard End of 2013 (Probably more like Early 2014): Publish the new Lease Accounting Standards 2015: Retroactive reporting 2017: New standard is effective It seems that leases under one year will be treated as “rent expense”. If it doesn’t cross two (annual) balance sheets, it doesn’t really matter. This is good news in terms of clarity, resolution, and moving forward on one of the last remaining items to converge the IFRS and U.S. GAAP standards. There are ambiguities, issues, concerns, et cetera, of course, and there are bright lines (“rules”) that bother the “no rules, please” people and ambiguities (“judgments”) that bother the “clarity, please” people, but at least the train isn’t falling off the tracks.

  • Date/Time formatting in .NET (Devexpress Gantt charts to show time rather than date)

    - by calico-cat
I have some data about a day's events that I'm trying to visualise as a Gantt chart using Devexpress XtraCharts. Devexpress's example here shows the chart being populated by date. However, I'd like it to be populated by time to compare the events throughout one day. My X-axis is displaying correctly - done like so: ganttDiagram.AxisY.DateTimeMeasureUnit = DateTimeMeasurementUnit.Minute I have data with the correct time, however, the label on each series is showing the date (which are all the same, because it's all the same day!) Thus, instead of being a bar, all of them are just single points, with the label showing 31/03/2010 - 31/03/2010. Each series is created with the code below: s.Points.Add(New SeriesPoint("Machine", New DateTime() {ev.StartTime, ev.EndTime}))

  • Webservice works with SoapSonar but not with Visual Studio Winform

    - by Rebol Tutorial
I have generated a wsdl file with Visual Studio which is here; http://reboltutorial.com/webservices/discordian.wsdl Implementation is a cgi instead of a .net framework program but that should not matter as it is the purposes of webservices. I tested it successfully with SoapSonar: But under Visual Studio it fails with this code: private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { RebolTutorial.ServiceSoapClient Discordian = new RebolTutorial.ServiceSoapClient("ServiceSoap"); int year = int.Parse(this.year.Text); int month = int.Parse(this.month.Text); int day = int.Parse(this.day.Text); response.Text = Discordian.Discordian(year, month, day); } Any reason you can see ? • jQuery Datepicker - Programatically Limit Second Datepicker

    - by Dodinas
Hello all, I've recently been using the following piece of code to limit my 2nd Date picker (end date) so that it does not precede the date of the 1st Date picker. $("#datepicker").datepicker({ minDate: +5, maxDate: '+1M +10D', onSelect: function(dateText, inst){ var the_date = dateText; $("#datepicker2").datepicker('option', 'minDate', the_date); } }); $("#datepicker2").datepicker({ maxDate: '+1M +10D', onSelect: function(dateText, inst){ } }); However, lately, I wanted to format my datepickers using: dateFormat: 'yy-mm-dd' But now, the 2nd datepicker actually allows the user to pick a date 1 day before. For example, if the user picks the 1st date: 2010-04-03, when the 2nd Datepicker pops up, they are able to pick 2010-04-02 (1 day before their first selected date). I do not want the user to be able to pick a date that was before their first selected day. Any ideas why this isn't working after I added in the "dateFormat"?

  • Python string formatting when string contains "%s" without escaping

    - by Stephen Gornick
When formatting a string, my string may contain a modulo "%" that I do not wish to have converted. I can escape the string and change each "%" to "%%" as a workaround. e.g., 'Day old bread, 50%% sale %s' % 'today!' output: 'Day old bread, 50% sale today' But are there any alternatives to escaping? I was hoping that using a dict would make it so Python would ignore any non-keyword conversions. e.g., 'Day old bread, 50% sale %(when)s' % {'when': 'today'} but Python still sees the first modulo % and gives a: TypeError: not enough arguments for format string

  • Microsoft T-SQL Counting Consecutive Records

    - by JeffW
Problem: From the most current day per person, count the number of consecutive days that each person has received 0 points for being good. Sample data to work from : Date Name Points 2010-05-07 Jane 0 2010-05-06 Jane 1 2010-05-07 John 0 2010-05-06 John 0 2010-05-05 John 0 2010-05-04 John 0 2010-05-03 John 1 2010-05-02 John 1 2010-05-01 John 0 Expected answer: Jane was bad on 5/7 but good the day before that. So Jane was only bad 1 day in a row most recently. John was bad on 5/7, again on 5/6, 5/5 and 5/4. He was good on 5/3. So John was bad the last 4 days in a row. Code to create sample data: IF OBJECT_ID('tempdb..#z') IS NOT NULL BEGIN DROP TABLE #z END select getdate() as Date,'John' as Name,0 as Points into #z insert into #z values(getdate()-1,'John',0) insert into #z values(getdate()-2,'John',0) insert into #z values(getdate()-3,'John',0) insert into #z values(getdate()-4,'John',1) insert into #z values(getdate(),'Jane',0) insert into #z values(getdate()-1,'Jane',1) select * from #z order by name, date desc

  • javascript form validation in rails?

    - by Elliot
Hey guys, I was wondering how to go about form validation in rails. Specifically, here is what I'm trying to do: The form lets the user select an item from a drop down menu, and then enter a number along with it. Using RJS, the record instantly shows up in a table below the form. Resetting the form with AJAX isn't a problem. The issue is, I don't want the person to be able to select the same item from that drop down menu twice (in 1 day at least). Without using ajax, this isn't a problem (as I have a function for the select statement currently), but now that the page isn't reloading, I need a way to make sure people cant add the same item twice in one day. That said, is there a way to use some javascript/ajax validation to make sure the same record hasn't been submitted during that day, before a duplicate can be created? Thanks in advance! Elliot

  • NSDateFormatter incorrect date on simulator, correct date on device

    - by Rudiger
Hi, Im building a calendar and to find out the first day of the month I do [formatter setDateFormat:@"e"]; int startDay = [[formatter stringFromDate:newDate] intValue]; On the device this works correctly and the 1st of the month is on the correct day. But on the simulator it is the day after. Although it doesn't overly matter about the simulator it is kind of driving me crazy thinking I've done something wrong. I tried to set the locale of the formatter but no difference, nor i think should it. Can anyone shed some light on this? On a side note is there a better way to build a calendar than this?

  • Derived Column Editor

    - by Rob Bowman
Hi I need to assign a formatted date to a column in a data flow. I have added a Derived Column editor and entered the following expression: "BBD" + SUBSTRING((DT_WSTR,4)DATEADD("Day",30,GETDATE()),1,4) + SUBSTRING((DT_WSTR,2)DATEADD("Day",30,GETDATE()),6,2) + SUBSTRING((DT_WSTR,2)DATEADD("Day",30,GETDATE()),9,2) The problem is that the "Derived Column Transformation Editor" automatically assigns a Data Type of "Unicode string[DT_WSTR]" and a length of "7". Howver, the length of a string is 11, therefore the following exception is thrown each time: [Best Before Date [112]] Error: The "component "Best Before Date" (112)" failed because truncation occurred, and the truncation row disposition on "output column "Comments" (132)" specifies failure on truncation. A truncation error occurred on the specified object of the specified component. Does anyone know why the edit is insisting on a length of 7? I don't seem to be able to change this. Many thanks, Rob.

  • Using PHP and SQLite

    - by Barry Shittpeas
I am going to use a small SQLite database to store some data that my application will use. I cant however get the syntax for inserting data into the DB using PHP to correctly work, below is the code that i am trying to run: <?php $day = $_POST["form_Day"]; $hour = $_POST["form_Hour"]; $minute = $_POST["form_Minute"]; $type = $_POST["form_Type"]; $lane = $_POST["form_Lane"]; try { $db = new PDO('sqlite:EVENTS.sqlite'); $db->exec("INSERT INTO events (Day, Hour, Minute, Type, Lane) VALUES ($day, $hour, $minute, $type, $lane);"); $db = NULL; } catch(PDOException $e) { print 'Exception : '.$e->getMessage(); } ?> I have successfully created a SQLite database file using some code that i wrote but i just cant seem to insert data into the database.

  • Compiled Linq Queries with Built-in SQL functions

    - by Brandi
I have a query that I am executing in C# that is taking way too much time: string Query = "SELECT COUNT(HISTORYID) FROM HISTORY WHERE YEAR(CREATEDATE) = YEAR(GETDATE()) "; Query += "AND MONTH(CREATEDATE) = MONTH(GETDATE()) AND DAY(CREATEDATE) = DAY(GETDATE()) AND USERID = '" + EmployeeID + "' "; Query += "AND TYPE = '5'"; I then use SqlCommand Command = new SqlCommand(Query, Connection) and SqlDataReader Reader = Command.ExecuteReader() to read in the data. This is taking over a minute to execute from C#, but is much quicker in SSMS. I see from google searching you can do something with CompiledQuery, but I'm confused whether I can still use the built in SQL functions YEAR, MONTH, DAY, and GETDATE. If anyone can show me an example of how to create and call a compiled query using the built in functions, I will be very grateful! Thanks in advance.

Here is the line from the sphinx docs: http://sphinxsearch.com/docs/current.html#clustering "The final search result set then contains one best match per group."

When I plot them with a smoother time series, I want to be able to get the parameters of the linear model that I plot, but I can't see how to do that? > data day od series_id 1 1 0.10 A1 2 3 1.00 A1 3 5 0.50 A1 4 7 0.70 A1 5 1 1.70 B1 6 3 1.60 B1 7 5 1.75 B1 8 7 1.70 B1 9 1 2.10 C1 10 3 2.30 C1 11 5 2.50 C1 12 7 2.70 C1 data = data.frame (day = c(1,3,5,7,1,3,5,7,1,3,5,7), od = c(0.1,1.0,0.5,0.7 ,1.7,1.6,1.75,1.7 ,2.1,2.3,2.5,2.7), series_id = c("A1", "A1", "A1","A1", "B1", "B1","B1", "B1", "C1","C1", "C1", "C1")) r <- ggplot(data = data, aes(x = day, y = od)) r + stat_smooth(aes(group = series_id, color = series_id),method="lm")

  • Javascript : assign variable in if condition statement, good practice or not?

    - by Michael Mao
Hi all: I moved one years ago from classic OO languages such like Java to Javascript. The following code is definitely not recommended (or even not correct) in Java: if(dayNumber = getClickedDayNumber(dayInfo)) { alert("day number found"); } function getClickedDayNumber(dayInfo) { dayNumber = dayInfo.indexOf("fc-day"); if(dayNumber != -1) //substring found { //normally any calendar month consists of "40" days, so this will definitely pick up its day number. return parseInt(dayInfo.substring(dayNumber+6, dayNumber+8)); } else return false; } Basically I just found out that I can assign a variable to a value in an if condition statement, and immediately check the assigned value as if it is boolean. For a safer bet, I usually separate that into two lines of code, assign first then check the variable, but now that I found this, I am just wondering whether is it good practice or not in the eyes of experienced javascript developers? Many thanks in advance.

  • How do I use timezones with a datetime object in python?

    - by jidar
How do I properly represent a different timezone in my timezone? The below example only works because I know that EDT is one hour ahead of me, so I can uncomment the subtraction of myTimeZone() import datetime, re from datetime import tzinfo class myTimeZone(tzinfo): """docstring for myTimeZone""" def utfoffset(self, dt): return timedelta(hours=1) def myDateHandler(aDateString): """u'Sat, 6 Sep 2008 21:16:33 EDT'""" _my_date_pattern = re.compile(r'\w+\,\s+(\d+)\s+(\w+)\s+(\d+)\s+(\d+)\:(\d+)\:(\d+)') day, month, year, hour, minute, second = _my_date_pattern.search(aDateString).groups() month = [ 'JAN', 'FEB', 'MAR', 'APR', 'MAY', 'JUN', 'JUL', 'AUG', 'SEP', 'OCT', 'NOV', 'DEC' ].index(month.upper()) + 1 dt = datetime.datetime( int(year), int(month), int(day), int(hour), int(minute), int(second) ) # dt = dt - datetime.timedelta(hours=1) # dt = dt - dt.tzinfo.utfoffset(myTimeZone()) return (dt.year, dt.month, dt.day, dt.hour, dt.minute, dt.second, 0, 0, 0) def main(): print myDateHandler("Sat, 6 Sep 2008 21:16:33 EDT") if __name__ == '__main__': main()
