  I have installed ubuntu on my toshiba laptop and whenever I connect a microphone it doesn't detect any sounds at all. Everything worked well under xp. When I try sound recorder to record sounds it registers no sounds. The only thing that actually gets recorded is a sound when I remove or connect the microphone in its socket(a kind of a "click"). No its NOT muted I checked a million times. Thanks a lot!

To avoid a lot of changes I basically created ActiveRecord style classes that inherited from the original business objects. For example SomeClassRecord :SomeClass //ID Property //Save method I then used this new class in place of the other one, because of polymorphism I didn't need to change any methods that took SomeClass as a parameter. Would this be considered 'Bad'? What would be a better alternative?

It seems that when I first start up the computer, everything is fine, but then if I put the computer on standy for a while and then come back to it, the display is extremely slow and there is a significant delay to visual effects that make the system rather cumbersome to use. "Back in the day" the folders that were on my screen were the ones shown in the .Desktop directory now it seems like all the files in my login directory are there (that is a lot of files) Is there some way to set the files being diplayed to come from a specific directory? if so how? I've tried it on my Motion Computing M1400 but get a "no screens found" error.
