  • Flash CS3/AS3 - How to Mask Nested MovieClips in External Classes

    I have a number of external class files that make up (or are trying to build) a portfolio. One of the class files for this project is a Menu.as class I tried extends, but I'm yet to use extends to where it doesn't become a ball of tangled holiday cheer. So my main portfolio class (the one where I'm assembling everything) calls an instance of the Menu class. From the Preloader through the Portfolio class into the Menu class is where I'm passing the content because I want to package things properly. This is Menu content, so naturally I want to position it in a properly names spot. I'm trying to reveal this Menu in a mask and I'm getting the old #1009 error. In a trace, this will work: trace(site_mc.menu_mc.mainMask_mc); // returns [object mainMask_mc_4] However, when I try to truncate the string into a single compact_mc... compactMenu_mc = site_mc.menu_mc.mainMask_mc; trace(compact_mc); // it won't trace (#1009). I said to hell with it, but now I need to have one MovieClip mask another. So I figure I can't go all... parent.parent.parent.clip_mc.mask = parent.parent.parent.masked_mc Probably because of datatyping and whatever else. I hate to be vague, but I'm new and have been working like gangbusters for days to get this portfolio up. Any suggestions or pointers on things my noob brain might've missed are given much thanks. :)

Does jquery have a similar function built-in? If not, how should I go about implementing the desired functionality?

    In many places in my code, I do things like: file1.php: <?php include('../file2.php'); file2.php: <?php include('anotherdirectory/file3.php'); Depending on the server or settings I try this on, it either sets the relative paths from the "includer" or from the "includee". This is really confusing. So file1 might try to include "../anotherdirectory/file3.php" or it might try "anotherdirectory/file3.php". What settings dictate this behavior? I want to have control over this...

    I have just recently started working with Laravel. Great framework so far! However I have a question. I am using a layout template like this: public $layout = 'layouts.private'; This is set in my Base_Controller: public function __construct(){ //Styles Asset::add('reset', 'css/reset.css'); Asset::add('main', 'css/main.css'); //Scripts Asset::add('jQuery', 'http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.8.1/jquery.min.js'); //Switch layout template according to the users auth credentials. if (Auth::check()) { $this -> layout = 'layouts.private'; } else { $this -> layout = 'layouts.public'; } parent::__construct(); } However I get an error exception now when I try to access functions in my diffrent controllers, which should not call any view, i.e. when a user is going to login: class Login_Controller extends Base_Controller { public $restful = true; public function post_index() { $user = new User(); $credentials = array('username' => Input::get('email'), 'password' => Input::get('password')); if (Auth::attempt($credentials)) { } else { } } } The error I get, is that I do not set the content of the different variables in my public $layout. But since no view is needed in this function, how do I tell Laravel not to include the layout in this function? The best solution that I my self have come a cross (don't know if this is a bad way?) is to unset($this -> layout); from function post_index()... To sum up my question: how do I tell Laravel not to include public $layout in certain functions, where a view is not needed? Thanks in advance, fischer

    I came into matrix world from loop world(C, etc) I would like to call a function on each individual member of a vector/matrix, and return the resulting vector/matrix. This is how I currently do it: function retval = gauss(v, a, b, c) for i = 1:length(v) retval(i) = a*(e^(-(v(i)-b)*(v(i)-b)/(2*c*c))); endfor endfunction Example usage: octave:47> d=[1:1000]; octave:48> mycurve=gauss(d, 1, 500, 100); Now, all advice on Matlab/Octave says: STOP whenever you catch yourself using loops and think of a better way of doing it. Thus, my question: Can one call a function on each member of a vector/matrix and return the result in a new vector/matrix all at once without using explicit loops? That is I am looking for something like this: function retval = newfun(v) retval = 42*(v^23); endfunction Perhaps, it is just syntactic sugar, that is all, but still would be useful to know.

    I'm trying to translate some C++ code for a neural net into C#. I first took the C++ code, from a 1993 book, and ran it. Then translated it using the STL and it ran again. Now I'm trying to get it into C# with Visual Web Developer 2008 Express. The original code used "friend" classes and I'm just trying to do the same making everything "public". The following code compiles but only gives null references when run: public class ineuron { public Double weight, activation; public ineuron(Double set_wt) { weight = set_wt; } ... public class netwrk { public oneuron onrn; public ineuron in1, in2, in3, in4; public netwrk( Double inp_1, Double inp_2, Double inp_3, Double inp_4 ) { ineuron in1 = new ineuron(inp_1); ineuron in2 = new ineuron(inp_2); ... and later, in some code called by a button push: netwrk ntw = new netwrk(i_n1, i_n2, i_n3, i_n4); Unfortunately, trying to use: ntw.in1.activation etc. leads to null reference runtime errors.   • Swing layout with miglayout and nested panels

    I have a Swing program using SwingLayout. The structure of the Swing components looks like this. JFrame JPanel (Cardlayout) JPanel (Miglayout) - Main panel Jpanel (Flowlayout) - Checkbox Panel JPanel (Flowlayout) - Option Panel My problem right now is that I'm not sure how to prevent the checkbox panel from growing. I don't want it to "push" out the column that it's in to the right. I want Wraplayout (which works fine on the option panel) to wrap the content of the checkbox panel when it grows too big. This is the view of it from the Windowsbuilder GUI inside of Eclipse. The panel with the label "sites" in it is the Checkbox Panel. Directly to the right of the Checkbox panel is the Option panel. The big panel containing both of them is the main panel. http://i.imgur.com/S7Njo.png This is what happens when I add too many checkboxes http://i.imgur.com/f2SZz.png My main problem is that I don't understand why setting "grow 0" on the column constraint for the first column in mainpanel doesn't prevent it from growing when the component inside gets too big as I add new checkboxes to the site panel (the site panel can have an arbitrary number of checkboxes). This is my miglayout for the main panel. mainPanel.setLayout(new MigLayout("", "[][grow]", "[][][][][][][][grow]")); Here are my component constraints for when I add the checkbox panel siteCheckBoxPanel = new JPanel(); mainPanel.add(siteCheckBoxPanel, "cell 0 0,alignx left,gapx 0px,aligny center"); siteCheckBoxPanel.setLayout(new FlowLayout(FlowLayout.CENTER, 5, 5)); I've also tried it without flow layout, and that doesn't fix anything. Any insight you could provide would be great! I'm also happy to provide more information if people have questions. FYI I've also tried "grow 0" on both the column and row constraint for the cell that the Checkbox Panel is inside.

    I have a problem when attempting to serialize class on a server, send it to the client and deserialize is on the destination.   • Grails: Problem with nested associations in criteria builder

    I have a frustrating problem with the criteria builder. I have an application in which one user has one calendar, and a calendar has many entries. Seems straightforward enough, but when I try to get the calendar entries for a given user, I can't access the user property (MissingMethodException). Here's the code: def getEntries(User user) { def entries = Entries.createCriteria().list() { calendar { user { eq("user.id", user.id) } } } } I have even tried the following variation: def getEntries(User user) { def entries = Entries.createCriteria().list() { calendar { eq("user", user) } } } That did not raise an exception, but didn't work either. Here's the relevant parts of the domain classes: class Calendar { static belongsTo = [user: User] static hasMany = [entries: Entries] ... } class User { Calendar calendar ... } class Entry { static belongsTo = [calendar: Calendar] ... } When Googling I came across a similar problem noted in early 2008: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GRAILS-1412 But according to that link this issue should have been solved long ago. What am I doing wrong?

  • Type error while trying to implement the (>>=) function in order to create a custom monad transforme

    Hello, I'm trying to create a monad transformer for a future project, but unfortunately, my implementation of the Monad typeclasse's (=) function doesn't work. First of all, here is the underlying monad's implementation : newtype Runtime a = R { unR :: State EInfo a } deriving (Monad) Here, the implementation of the Monad typeclasse is done automatically by GHC (using the GeneralizedNewtypeDeriving language pragma). The monad transformer is defined as so : newtype RuntimeT m a = RuntimeT { runRuntimeT :: m (Runtime a) } The problem comes from the way I instanciate the (=) function of the Monad typeclasse : instance (Monad m) => Monad (RuntimeT m) where return a = RuntimeT $ (return . return) a x >>= f = runRuntimeT x >>= id >>= f The way I see it, the first >>= runs in the underlying m monad. Thus, runRuntimeT x >>= returns a value of type Runtime a (right ?). Then, the following code, id >>=, should return a value of type a. This value is the passed on to the function f of type f :: (Monad m) => a -> RuntimeT m b. And here comes the type problem : the f function's type doesn't match the type required by the (=) function. Jow can I make this coherent ? I can see why this doesn't work, but I can't manage to turn it into something functionnal.     Hello all, I have an ASP.NET document, with an Image element within it. I created a mouseover function on this image element and it's working fine. The question is: If the mouse is ALREADY over the element when the document loads itself, the mouseover function doesn't trigger (I need to mouseout and then mouseover again in order to trigger it). Is there any way to check in the $(document).ready function if the mouse is already on top of this element? and if yes- trigger the mouseover function. Thanks all!

  • Nested flowlayout panel not wrapping

    I've got a FlowLayoutPanel with properties: Dock = Fill (in a usercontrol) FlowDirection = TopDown WrapContents = false I do it this way so that each item added to the panel gets added to the bottom. The items that I add to this panel are usercontrols which themselves have FlowLayoutPanels on them, however they have the standard behaviour (LeftToRight, WrapContents = true). The problem that I'm having is that the interior usercontrol's FlowLayoutPanel isn't resizing to fill the outer control, but when I set autosizing to true on these controls, then the panel won't wrap its contents - which is a known problem apparently.   • Javascript function in external file is undefined when declared in a certain way

    myfunc() runs successfully when called from within the same js file. but it is undefined (Firebug) when called from an HTML page: JS file: $(function() { myfunc() { alert('inside myfunc'); } alert('outside myfunc'); myfunc(); //this successfully runs myfunc() }); HTML: <script> $(function() { myfunc(); //this doesn't run myfunc(). It's undefined }); </script> But when I change myfunc() declaration to: myfunc = function () { ... } It's no longer undefined, and runs successfully. Sorry for this very noob question, but what just happened? Why did it work when I changed the way I declared the function?
