I have spent majority of my career using and troubleshooting IIS Web Server. According to me the best thing happened to a Web admin is FRT (Failed Request Tracing) in IIS 7.0.I have used Event Tracing for Windows as well and FRT is as much helpful.Is there any such tracing tool which can give such good in-depth and greater understanding on request flow through the pipeline?
What acronym do you often hear used incorrectly?
For instance ATM Machine, or DNS Server.
So annoying!
Edit: There is nothing wrong with DNS Server as the S in DNS is System.
Instead how about UDP Protocol?
Can the utility "Installation Monitor" from the Windows 2000 Resource Kit Tools for administrative tasks be used on newer OS's, specifically, Windows Server 2008 R2.
The main thing I am concerned about is it may error will not track things correctly without letting me know that that it errored due to how Windows has changed between 2000 and today.
If that is not the correct tool to use to monitor what a application is writing to the hard drive and registry, can you recommend me what I should use instead?
I would like to know how databases (like MySQL) are able to manage per user resources (like Oracle Database Resource Manager does) to be able to have users that may only get resources only when the database is mostly idle.

I'm hoping there is a light weight, command line utility that I could use to setup a server from scratch.
I like python's fabric or ruby's capistrano but from what I was reading they are more used for deployment purposes and not setting up apache, mysql, update patches etc.
I know there are other tools like puppet, but I don't want to setup a master/slave for servers etc., I was hoping there was a more light-weight tool for this.
3 years ago I created a catalog using InDesign's data merge feature and a 3rd party software called EasyCatalog. It wasn't a great success. Has anyone used data merge in InDesign or a catalog building software to produce a print catalog?
On a debian server, I have unionfs mount with no entry in fstab. How can I figure out the command, that was used to mount unionfs (or which directories make up the union) ?
Hi all I was trying to confirm my understanding of "standby list" and "modified list" as stated in this article.
Is it true that "Cached memory" (as shown in the image below) refers to memory that is currently cached (available for use), and memory that was previous cached (previously available for use), but currently used (now not available for use) ?
So if x = "Cached memory" (1184), y = "modified cache pages", z = "cached and were modified",
x = y + z holds true ?
I've just come across the HTTP_PROFILE header that seems to be used by mobile browsers to point to an .xml document describing the device's capabilities.
Doing a Google search doesn't turn up any definitive resources on what this is and how it should be used, can anyone point me to something along the lines of a spec/W3C standard?
I work as support staff in a Biology research institute as a student, and Perl seems to be used everywhere. Not for every single project, but it seems that more than half the people here have a few Perl books in/on their office/desk.
Why is Perl used so much in Biology?
In this case security means building security (access control, alarm systems, etc). And I am not talking about working directly with the hardware, more focused on web based applications/api's that clients or companies can use?
Are there technologies that are commonly used? Are there technologies that shouldn't be used? Are there any real benefits to a linux based stack as opposed to a windows based stack for exposing web based applications?
There are different collections are used in Java like hashtable, hashset, vector, treeset, treemap and hashmap. How are they implemented internally? What are the actual datastructure used for these collection? And, What is order?
Thanks,

It may not be a pure programming question but I'm looking for information about enCapsa. Do you know what it is, have you ever used it? I'm reading some papers about it but I can't really see how it works and what it can be used for in an IT company (and this is what i am supposed to find out).
I ve connected my mobile phone to my PC and used this,
string[] lPorts = System.IO.Ports.SerialPort.GetPortNames();
and the result was an array of port names
"COM4"
"COM3"
"COM1"
"COM7"
"COM6"
Now,How to find which serial port is currently used/to which port my mobile phone is connected in c#?
I am asking because UML is used for informal specifications and has some ambiguities in its semantics. However OCL can be used to specify pre/post conditions and invariants and other constraints quite efficiently I think.
I encountered the Z notation and algebraic specifications recently. My question, is combination of UML and OCL sufficient for formal specifications?
I'm playing with SpecFlow, and ReSharper thinks that my step definitions are unused (I guess because they're used via reflection):
[Binding]
public class StepDefinitions
{
// ...
[When(@"I press add")]
public void WhenIPressAdd() // R# thinks this is unused
{
_calculator.PressAdd();
}
// ...
}
How can I tell ReSharper that methods with [Given], [When], [Then] attributes (etc.) are actually used? I don't want to use // ReSharper disable UnusedMember.Global comments.
Whenever I come across a cute website, I am always curious to know which web framework was used by its developers?
Being a novice in web development, a look at the page source doesn't give any clue.
Any way(s) to get this information? If possible, may be with a bit of Ruby magic, I can figure out things like: which is the most/least used framework for my favorite sites, audio/video heavy sites, etc.
I need to know which version of the report viewer control is used on a web server.
If I can find it without asking it would be nice.
Is there a way, by code, to find out which version of the assembly is used on the server?
Hi All,
I have a JAR on the build path of a medium sized Java application and I would like to know where it's used. At the most basic level if someone could tell me how to 'Find References' for a Jar that would be great.
Whilst I'm looking at dependencies it would be great to find a tool that would map all of my package / external library usages and graph them. I used to have a free plug-in for eclipse that did just that but I haven't been able to rediscover it.
Thanks,
Gav
I used Linq to insert objects into database.But if i used threads to simultanously create 20 object within 1 second, then system will fail to add 20 objects into database.
And I found it is not because of the sql server 's limit. so the only possible is Linq, any one have idea ? How can I create 20 records or more in 1 second within 1 second ?
