• Post 12.04 Update, stuck on splash screen

  I updated to 12.04 a couple of weeks ago and I haven't started up Ubuntu until now. On start up the computer gets stuck on the splash screen. I am a beginner in all of this linux mechanics. I've seen many people post about relatively the same problem but I have a hard time following. I am using Wubi and running it along side Windows Starter on a Toshiba netbook.   I have downloaded the JSONObject plugin for parsing JSON in Unity but when I use it in a script I get an error indicating JSONObject cannot be found. My question is how do I use a custom object class defined inside another class. I know I need a using directive to solve this but I am not sure of the path to these custom objects I have imported. They are in the root project folder inside JSONObject folder and class is called JSONObject. Thanks

• How do game engines implement certain features?

  I have always wondered how modern game engines do things such as realistic water, ambient occluded lighting, eye adaptation, global illumination, etc. I'm not so much interested in the implementation details, but more on what part of the graphics API such as D3D or OpenGL allow adding such functionality. The only thing I can think of is shaders, but I do not think just shaders can do all that. So really what I'm asking is, what functions or capabilities of graphics APIs enable developers to implement these types of features into their engines? Thanks

• Flexible Keyboard starts too late

  So I just managed to revive an old Windows XP machine that I am getting ready to format into Ubuntu 14.04. However the USB keyboard I have plugged in, powers down with the machine (obviously) but doesn't power up until the Windows loading screen (After my only chance to select boot device, for which I have a USB) It is really frustrating as this renders the f12 key useless and me stuck with a decade + 2 old machine. • Problems setting up Davmail in Kubuntu 11.04

  Haven't had a chance to setup Davmail per the earlier discussion around connecting to my Exchange box w/ Kontact but tonight I had some free time. So I have Davmail installed and working I thinking, but the problem that I am running into is the icon doesn't not show up in the system tray. The documentation says right-click o the tray, but there are no icons to right click on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Running Kubuntu 11.04 Thanks, Jonathn

• Macbook 4,1 crashes when flash video (youtube) is played fullscreen (Ubuntu 12.04)

  I have searched for similar posts but those were mostly about erratic behaviour. My macbook shuts down instantly without warning when I play a youtube video fullscreen; sometimes after five minutes sometimes longer, never immediately. I can play the video normally for as long as I like, it does not crash, only when played fullscreen. I have tried Firefox and chromium, it crashes with both browsers. Anyone encountered the same thing or has a solution? thanks

• Android Swipe In Unity 3D World with AR

  I am working on an AR application using Unity3D and the Vuforia SDK for Android. The way the application works is a when the designated image(a frame marker in our case) is recognized by the camera, a 3D island is rendered at that spot. Currently I am able to detect when/which objects are touched on the model by raycasting. But I want to have some interaction in the 3D world based on the swipe on the screen. I.E. If the user swipes over unoccluded enemies, they die. My first thought was to track all the points in the moved TouchPhase, and then if it is a swipe raycast into all those points and kill any enemy that is hit. Is there a better way to do this?   Ubuntu 14.04 Server edition only displays "nameserver 127.0.0.1" in "/etc/resolv.conf" on each reboot if the dns-nameservers in "/etc/network/interfaces" contains 127.0.0.1 and some other DNS such as Google Public DNS. On /etc/network/interfaces I set as follows: dns-nameservers 127.0.0.1 8.8.8.8 But after a reboot, /etc/resolv.conf gives me this: nameserver 127.0.0.1 Shouldn't the "nameserver 8.8.8.8" listed in the /etc/resolv.conf too? • Ubuntu 13.04 boot into black screen, even after installing nvidia drivers, fail at: "Starting Reload cups, upon starting avahi-daemon..."

  I got a new machine with i7 4770k and gefore gtx660. I installed windows and then installed Ubuntu 13.04. In the installation everything went well, after the installation I again boot from the USB and choose try ubuntu, and installed boot-repair because windows automatically boot with no option for ubuntu. After I repaired the boot, I restarted and got into grub, when I chose Ubuntu I got message saying I'm running on low graphics mode and when I pressed ok the screen turned off. I couldn't do anything so I restarted and after reading this post: My computer boots to a black screen, what options do I have to fix it? I got into recovery, selected dpkg and repaired packages. Then I rebooted, and tried to press 'e' and change quiet splash to no splash and nomodeset but unfortunately both of them didn't work, and not the screen didn't get turned off, but I just saw a blank screen. So I rebooted again, entered the recovery, and this time I went to the root shell, and tried to install nvidia drivers from this guide here: http://www.howopensource.com/2012/10/install-nvidia-geforce-driver-in-ubuntu-12-10-12-04-using-ppa/ I rebooted and got the same black screen again (the screen didn't go off, just saw a blank screen). In the grub I see that the kernel is 3.8.0-25. I also checked that the usb files are not corrupted using the check CD from the ubuntu installation screen. I'm really frustrated, I don't know what else can I do. (If someone also knows how can I connect to wifi using the root shell it will be very appreciated, because when I choose the 'enable networking' it again booting me to a black screen. • Interactive Fiction engine and Tech Support - has anyone done this? [on hold]

  I've always been a big fan of Interactive Fiction and have been wanting to try my hand at it for a while. I have a need to create a decision tree for my tech support group (L1-L3) and feel as though presenting a decision tree in the form of an IF game would be rather interesting and helpful.   I recently upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10, but I get "Not enough free swap" error when trying to put my laptop to hibernation. I have 2G of physical memory and 3G for swap. • I installed the Nautilus Actions Configuration utility but I don't have the action configuration menu option

• Change alpha to a Frame in libgdx

  I have this batch.draw(currentFrame, x, y, this.parent.originX, this.parent.originY, this.parent.width, this.parent.height, this.scaleX, this.scaleY,this.rotation); I want to apply the alpha that it gets from the method, but theres is not overload from the SpriteBatch class that takes the alpha value, is there some wey to apply it?
