• How to set up dual quadro cards on RHEL 5.5?

  I have a RHEL 5 workstation with 2 nvidia Quadro FX4500 cards, with one display attached to each card. After doing a clean install of RHEL 5.5, the second display doesnt work (it worked ok in RHEL 5.2). Neither separate X screens nor Xinerama are working. The kernel version is 2.6.18-194.el5 I've tried nvidia drivers 185.18.36 (the ones that i was using on 5.2) and the latest 260.19.36 and neither works. • grep pattern interpretted differently in 2 different systems with same grep version

  We manufacture a linux appliance for data centers, and all are running fedora installed from the same kickstart process. There are different hardware versions, some with IDE hard drives and some SCSI, so the filesystems may be at /dev/sdaN or /dev/hdaN. We have a web interface into these appliances that show disk usage, which is generated using "df | grep /dev/*da". This generally works for both hardware versions, giving an output like follows: /dev/sda2 5952284 3507816 2137228 63% / /dev/sda5 67670876 9128796 55049152 15% /data /dev/sda1 101086 11976 83891 13% /boot However, for one machine, we get the following result from that command: Binary file /dev/sda matches It seems that its grepping files matching /dev/*da for an unknown pattern for some reason, only on this box that is seemingly identical in grep version, packages, kernel, and hardware. I switched the grep pattern to be "/dev/.da" and everything works as expected on this troublesome box, but I hate not knowing why this is happening. Anyone have any ideas? Or perhaps some other tests to try?

• TextMate suddenly highlighting all text dark red...?

  I'm using TextMate on Snow Leopard, don't know much about how it works. After I hit an unknown keyboard shortcut, it suddenly decided to highlight almost all text in my Python files dark red - making all my Python virtually unreadable! I must have accidentally pressed a shortcut - but I've no idea what I did or how to turn it off, and can't find any relevant help in the manual or form. Even just 'turn off all highlighting' would do. Anyone know how to turn this highlighting off? Bit desperate! UPDATE: Figured it out. There's a tiny, tiny dropdown list at the very bottom of every TextMate editing window where you can set the language, so TextMate can highlight invalid syntax - I'd accidentally clicked on it and set the language to something other than Python. Will leave the question up though in case others have the same problem.

  Helo I installed MAMP PRO on my Macbook Pro (10.6) some time ago. Now I would like to use zip functions in php. I found that I must add zip.so to my extension folder and edited php.ini. On my computer I have two different versions of PHP one in MAMP folder and other in user/lib which was pre-installed on my system. Now I wish to compile my zip library for MAMP version. I got zip sources for my version of PHP then in terminal called function /Applications/MAMP/bin/php5/bin/phpize so it uses mamp php version ./configure make then I moved compile zip.so to extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613.   We're using Nagios to monitor some of our web sites. We have a script that uses the older plugin that we are trying to switch to using webinject.pl from cpan. When the script runs, it generates this error: LWP::Protocol::https::Socket: SSL connect attempt failed with unknown error error:1407741A:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_SERVER_HELLO:tlsv1 alert decode error at /usr/local/share/perl5/LWP/Protocol/http.pm line 51. It appears the web site does not support TLSv1 for https. If it matters, the site is a Cisco WebVPN. I've pointed the same script at a different site that does support TLSv1 and it seems to work fine. My web search is coming up empty. • Employee Monitoring software

  I am looking for an employee monitoring solution, that would allow us to remotely connect to our computers to see what is happening live, and preferably having some recording capabilities such as snapshots, URLs visited, etc ... I've looked around the web and most softwares I found were from unknown companies, had crappy websites, and made me feel like their either wanted me to install a virus on my computer, or to scam me. Most also seemed to have planted "reviews" online most likely written by themselves. Basically, anyone has experience with a trustworthy company to accomplish that? Thanks

  I'm trying to use the RBC9 SpaceNavigator TEST x64 build drivers for my SpaceNavigator 3d joystick so that it can work as a normal joystick in games like Quake. Unfortunately, I get the error "This version of windows requires all drivers to have a valid digital signature" and in the "Device status" in device manager, I get "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)". Is there a way to work around this issue?

• Slow internet using Arch Linux

  after a week or so of using Arch Linux I cant access the internet - it takes around 5 mins to load google (most of the other websites just give me a timeout), pacman's downloading speed range between 5-2Kbs, and pinging google takes around 9Kms. I'm connected using wireless network (wifi card is Intel Ultimate 6300 and router is Edimax 6524n). Every other Windows machine that's connected to the network (and even the T410 running Windows) is fine, so the problem lies in Linux. So far, i checked the resolv.conf file (my router ip address is listed), and the hosts file (pretty much default), and I disabled the ipv6 module. None of that helped. PS: i'm using NetworkManager (but the problem still occurs when connecting using wicd) running on Gnome3. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide! EDIT: something really strange happens whenever I ping google: i get an unknown host 'google.com', but the bit rate from the card jumps at the exact second I ping google (so far, the bit rate jumped to 54Mb/s from 1Mb/s over the course of 4 pings).

• iChat can't authenticate to Lion Server 10.7.2 [migrated]

  I've enabled iChat and iCal Server through our local 10.7.2 Server which has DNS set up correctly. I can add the server account via a client's System Preferences (under other - Mac OS X server) and it authenticates with my shortname correctly. However, when I load iChat, I get this error message: Where the account is [email protected]. The password and username is correct. Console throws this error: 22/11/11 3:03:31.135 PM imagent: [Warning] XMPPConnection: Error: Error Domain=XMPPErrorDomain Code=105 "The operation couldn?t be completed. (XMPPErrorDomain error 105.)" UserInfo=0x7f81bbe2a3e0 {XMPPErrorText=service requested for unknown domain} DNS is set up correctly (it's working for Profile Management, Software Update Server and Web Services) but I can't get iChat to work correctly. How can I get clients to authenticate? FYI: It's probably worth noting that I get the exact same error messages when I use [email protected] instead of [email protected].   Hi there, I have a ESX3i, build 207095 and i'm having a problem connecting to my VM's using the vmware remote console. On my PC always gives me an error about vmare-remotemks. I can do all of the tasks using VI client, but when a try to open remote console it breaks, the only thing that apears on the black screen is "unknown MKS Event". • Sending single emails works, but sending to the same email in a distribution list is bounced

  I'm running an Exchange 2003 server on a Telstra Business internet connection (in Australia). I'm routing emails through the SMTP connecter, using the host smtp.telstrabusiness.com When users send single emails to a single recipient, the emails are sent correctly. However, when users send emails to a distribution list, they bounce back with: The message could not be delivered because the recipient's destination email system is unknown or invalid. Please check the address and try again, or contact your system administrator to verify connectivity to the email system of the recipient. One of the people in the list was able to recieve a single email from us just a few minutes afterwards, but did not recieve any of the email that should have come from the distribution list. Is there a way I can throttle the number of messages that Exchange will send at a time, so as not to appear as spam to Telstra?

I think (but I'm not sure because I never looked at output before) the PS script that I have worked before but after some problems with IIS7 installation it stopped working.   I'm trying to install PostgreSQL 8.3 on Debian Lenny (kernel 2.6.26-2-686) using the package manager: sudo apt-get install postgresql-8.3 postgresql-client-8.3 postgresql-contrib-8.3 postgresql-common When deploying the package postgresql-common, the following warning is displayed: supported_versions: WARNING: Unknown Debian release: 5.0.4 I wonder if this is related to the problem I describe below. Next I try to launch the database server but it doesn't have any effect, neither any logs are generated. sudo /etc/init.d/postgresql-8.3 start Does anybody have a clue of what might be going on?

• Setting up a static IP address (public) in Ubuntu

  I have a business class internet connection and need to setup a static ip address for a machine. I did a search online and only find how to setup static local ip addresses (like 192.168..). I tried the same technique, and only setup the ip address and netmask, but after restart networking the computer could not connect to the outside world. This is what I did: 1) edit /etc/network/interfaces iface eth0 inet static address 173.10.xxx.xx netmask 255.255.255.252 2) edit /etc/resolv.conf search wp.comcast.net nameserver xx.xx.xx.xxx nameserver xx.xx.xx.xxx 3) restart network sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart Now the last step didn't report error, ifconfig shows the ip address was set, but this server cannot connect to outside world, ping google.com and reports "unknown host google.com". Any ideas?

The new certificate verifies fine in Internet Explorer 9, Chrome, and Firefox 4 - but when trying to browse/check out the repository with TortoiseSVN, I get the following error: Error validating server certificate for https://xxx.xxx.com:443: Unknown certificate issuer. Question 1: Why does it display no data for some of the PARAMETERS and LOCALS? Is it the GC who has cleaned up before the memorydump had been created. Question 2: Is there anymore i can do to get to the solution to this problem?

  I'm trying to check the state of the drives on a remote server running Debian wheezy. I'm using a software RAID10 on top of, I guess, xen, since the entries in /dev are /dev/xvda and /dev/xvdb But it I try smartctl -a /dev/xvda I get /dev/xvda: Unable to detect device type Smartctl: please specify device type with the -d option. I've tried various device type guesses, none work Similar problem with hddtemp, which reports ERROR: /dev/xvda: can't determine bus type (or this bus type is unknown) I've searched the smartmontools documentation, but can't find any discussion of virtual disks. . . How do I get behind the virtualisation to something smart tools or hddtemp can work with?

• When DNS doesn't cache

  We've had some odd DNS problems over the past couple of days that I don't fully understand. Some of our DNS names stopped resolving for some of our customers due to some 'unknown' server reconfiguration at our DNS provider. The problem seemed to be intermittent i.e. stopped working and started working within a few minutes over a couple of days. I'm no expert on DNS, but I'd have expected DNS caches to prevent this sort of thing from happening - when we need to change an IP address for a DNS record, it can take 24 hours to propogate, so how can our DNS provider be breaking name resolution intermittently for our customers so easily? Shouldn't the DNS caches kick in here? We had a similar problem about a month ago when one of their nameservers 'decided to reload the DNS database from scratch' - this broke our name resolution too. Again, why didn't the caches satisfy the name resolution requests. Any guesses would be appreciated. John
