  My Friend's Pen Drive, which was working well very well just few days ago, is not being recognized after getting used by a virus affected machine. • Changes made to cli's php.ini not taking effect

  I have two php.ini files - /etc/php.ini which loads in case of cli /opt/lampp/etc/php.ini which loads in case of browser. I am able to use PHP's Mailparse extension after adding the line extension=mailparse.so in the /opt/lampp/etc/php.ini and restarting lampp. But I am not able to load the same in case of command line - getting PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function mailparse_msg_create() in ... mailparse_msg_create() is a part of the Mailparse extension. I tried by relogging with the user after making the change and even restarting the system. What needs to be done so that the change takes effect. Update I checked that php -i | grep 'Configuration File' gives PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php/modules/mailparse.so' - /usr/lib/php/modules/mailparse.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0 Configuration File (php.ini) Path => /etc Loaded Configuration File => /etc/php.ini Update 2 I copied the mailparse.so from /opt/lampp/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626 and put it in /usr/lib/php/modules. As told by Lekensteyn, I did ldd /usr/lib/php/modules/mailparse.so and got ldd: warning: you do not have execution permission for /usr/lib/php/modules/mailparse.so' So I gave execute permission. Then ldd /usr/lib/php/modules/mailparse.so showed linux-gate.so.1 => (0x00110000) libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x0011d000) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x003aa000) which looks normal. • Can I change the file system on the OS partition on Server 2008 R2?

  I have a client using R1Soft Continuous Data Protection backup, and two of the Server 2008 R2 boxes were erroring out with these errors: Unable to obtain NTFS volume data for device '\\?\Volume{f612849e-7125-11e0-8772-806e6f6e6963}': Incorrect function. Unable to discover information for filesytem volume '\\?\Volume{f612849e-7125-11e0-8772-806e6f6e6963}'; Unable to obtain NTFS volume So I backed up all the registry entries with this, {f612849e-7125-11e0-8772-806e6f6e6963}, in it, and deleted them based on some VERY sparse info from R1Soft. I then decided to restore them before I rebooted, and do a system state backup first using MS backup, and even it errored out saying that there were FAT32 partitions. This was a major clue as the only two computers with problems had these FAT32 partitions. I figured if MS backup can't backup something, any other program is likely to have problems. Also, now that I realized the servers had FAT32 partitions on them, the error referencing NTFS takes on more weight. The partitions on both servers have the label "OS", but on one of the computers, it is given a letter, but on the other not. So I am thinking if I just convert the file systems from FAT32 to NTFS, it may solve the backup problem. So the question is this: Can I just convert those partitions, and does anyone have any concrete knowledge of any major downsides, like the servers not coming back up (of course, I would do one at a time)? My thinking is that the answer is probably at least 95% no, but they are production servers, so I wanted to get some second opinions.

• How do I fix libdispatch problem crashing Mac OS X apps?

  In the last day I have started having a lot of brokenness on my Mac (MacBook Air running Mac OS X 10.6.2 with all software updates). Most noticably, iTunes no longer syncs with my iPhone. It fails with a crash dialog reporting "AppleMobileDeviceHelper quit unexpectedly" and an error dialog "iTunes was unable to load dataclass information from SyncServices. Reconnect or try again later." I've attempted the fix at support.apple.com/kb/HT1747 but it failed. I've also been having problems (at first seemingly unrelated) with the horrible Cisco VPN client, which started giving me this error: Error 51: Unable to communicate with the VPN subsystem I followed the steps at www.anders.com/cms/192/CiscoVPN/Error.51:.Unable.to.communicate.with.the.VPN.subsystem which don't seem to work for me, although I can connect if I use the command line with sudo : sudo vpnclient connect MyProfile I had a look in the Console app at the diagnostic messages and I noticed a pattern, that a number of apps were reporting "BUG IN CLIENT OF LIBDISPATCH". The affected programs are: AppleMobileBackup AppleMobileDeviceHelper Safari Webpage Preview Fetcher cvpnd (the Cisco VPN daemon) Of these, only the last is non-Apple software! The common text in the diagnostic messages is: Exception Type: EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION (SIGILL) Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000001, 0x0000000000000000 Crashed Thread: 1 Dispatch queue: com.apple.libdispatch-manager Application Specific Information: BUG IN CLIENT OF LIBDISPATCH: Do not close random Unix descriptors I'm beginning to wonder if there's a permissions problem, or corruption of an important library, ... • Exchange DEAD! Server recovered but no users can log in

  Yesterday we had a hardware failure and brought our exchange server down. The hardware was repaired and the server was brought back up. Windows server 2008 did the disk check upon bootup and everything was recovered. However, no users can log into their exchange account! This is true with IMAP, Exchange and OWA! All three of them, refused to accept any users. For example when I try to access OWA, I get the following page http://pastie.org/584061 We verified that all the services are up (IMAP, POP, SMTP, IIS etc). We were able to connect to all those services with their respective ports through telnet. What could be the problem? It looks like the database cannot be mounted, from Exchange management console, when I try to mount the database it gives: Microsoft Exchange Error Failed to mount database 'Mailbox Database'. Mailbox Database Failed Error: Exchange is unable to mount the database that you specified. Specified database: SERVER\First Storage Group\Mailbox Database; Error code: MapiExceptionCallFailed: Unable to mount database. (hr=0x80004005, ec=-528) . I read online that there is a repair utility, so I tried it. I navigated to my edb file and ran eseutil /p "Mailbox Database.edb". It printed the following output *Repair completed. Database corruption has been repaired! Note: It is recommended that you immediately perform a full backup of this database. If you restore a backup made before the repair, the database will be rolled back to the state it was in at the time of that backup. Operation completed successfully with 595 (JET_wrnDatabaseRepaired, Database cor ruption has been repaired) after 885.750 seconds.* However I am still unable to mount!

• Issues with duplicating TFS 2005 to a virtual server

  We have a problem with our current TFS installation. For some reason, which I won't get into, the Sharepoint DBs (sts_content, sts_config) were upgraded to WSS 3 (MOSS). So now, none of our team-project sites work, we have no access to our documents and can't create new team projects. We can still work with the version control, though. We wanted to "play" with the server and try to fix it, without affecting the users. So we used p2v for VmWare, to duplicate the server to a virtual one. We now continued and changed all of the relevant configuration to point to the new server, as explained in the MSDN article. The step of rebuilding the warehouse (with setupwarehouse) failed. Also, we can't access the VersionControl web service (ourserver:8080/VersionControl/v1.0/repository.asmx). We are seeing errors in the EventLog: TF53002: Unable to obtain registration data for application Build. TF53005: Unable to retrieve the Team Foundation Server installed UI culture. TF53002: Unable to obtain registration data for application VersionControl. TF30040: The database is not correctly configured. Contact your Team Foundation Server administrator. The solutions suggested in this blog post did not assist. So now we're kind of stuck. Any assistance will be appreciated.

• Setting up vncserver on OpenSolaris zone

  I am running OpenSolaris 5.10 and set up a sparse zone(inherits most of bin directories from global zone). I ended up copying many etc and var files from global zone, eventually most of the stuff(firefox,gvim, etc.) working through ssh via X11. However, I am having problems setting up vncserver on the zone. • Active directory Kerberos OSX problems

  I'll try to keep this short, but informative. I'm currently unable to bind OSX lion (10.7.4) machines to our AD. OSX kerberos (heimdal) is unable to locate the KDC service. However i can bind linux & windows machines to the AD without any problems in the same network AD controls the domain DNS and all the relevant _kerberos._tcp.x.domain.com and _kpasswd SRV DNS records are there and resolve fine when tried from OSX machines. Defined ports are open for service and manually accessible from OSX. When i try kinit in the OSX, i can get the first auth through (wrong passwords fail instantly), but when supplied with correct password, kinit fails after some waiting with "unable to reach KDC". All machines run NTP and have correct time. During testing, network is not firewalled between the machines Linux and windows machines have no problems whatsoever I have tried with and without /etc/krb5.conf - OSX by default does not need it in the krb5.conf i used a working config from one of our linux machines. dsconfigad fails with simple "connection failed to the directory server" I'm a bit baffled with this. OSX is like the KDC is nowhere to be found and at the same time my test machines with windows 7 and some linux (centos 6 & debian 6) machines have no problems whatsoever. Same network, same configurations. I'm missing some vital piece of configuration somewhere, and i can't find out what it is.

• Fresh Proxmox VE 2.1 installation with defaults can't be reached or pinged

  I am using the lastest Proxmox VE 2.1. My server has two NICS with a uplink only connected into eth0. My Server is a co-located server utilizing public IPv4 IPs. It is not behind a firewall or any system which monitors traffic. Via IPKVM I did a fresh install of Proxmox, I put in the correct IP, Mask, Gateway, and DNS information. The install went perfectly fine with no errors. Upon completion and rebooting the system: I am unable to reach the web GUI via the browser, it just times out. I am unable to ping the server. I am unable to ping outside to the Internet from within the server. Tried pinging out to 4.2.2.2 and yahoo.com I tried rebooting the server and restarting the network service. IFCONFIG shows my IP information under vmbro0 which also has the same MAC address as the eth0 device. eth0 only displays a IPv6 Scope:Link address, which I did not setup myself. This is my first time installing proxmox, but after searching for a few hours it doesn't seem like anyone else is having the same issue as me from a fresh install with just the defaults. So far the only thing I did was install it. Also, I know the network cable is good and the IP is good because I was running a Xen XCP server with the same network settings prior to wiping it to install proxmox. • Formatted C: from Windows 7 setup, now it won't even install

  Help, I'm so confused. I did more or less what's been described here: I formatted Vista and installed Windows 7 over it. Problem is that I'm now unable to boot (...) [1] I'm installing Seven on top of Vista on ACER AS1410 Notebook When it comes to the part where I choose where to install, I pick the partition labeled C: but instead of keeping windows.old files (what would I want them for?) I choose to go and carelessly format the partition (my bad). It shows me this error: Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information Now the only option is "Load Driver". i have tried installing every single one from ACER website, none of them are useful. I even flashed orig. BIOS. I've tried going back and choose "Repair" like in the picture:[2] but I only get an error: "Failed to save startup options" I think this is weird, what else can I do?   I am trying to set up authentication via PAM for PostgreSQL 9.3. I already managed to get this working on an Ubuntu 12.04 server, but I am unable to get this working on a Centos-6 install. The relevant pg_hba.conf line: host all all 0.0.0.0/0 pam pamservice=postgresql93 The pam.d/postgressql93 is the default config shipped with the official postgresql 9.3 package: #%PAM-1.0 auth include password-auth account include password-auth When a user tries to authenticate the following is reported in secure log: hostname unix_chkpwd[31807]: check pass; user unknown hostname unix_chkpwd[31808]: check pass; user unknown hostname unix_chkpwd[31808]: password check failed for user (myuser) hostname postgres 10.1.0.1(61459) authentication: pam_unix(postgresql93:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=26 euid=26 tty= ruser= rhost= user=myuser The relevant content of password-auth config is: auth required pam_env.so auth sufficient pam_unix.so nullok try_first_pass auth requisite pam_succeed_if.so uid >= 500 quiet auth required pam_deny.so account required pam_unix.so account sufficient pam_localuser.so account sufficient pam_succeed_if.so uid < 500 quiet account required pam_permit.so The problem is with the pam_unix.so. It is unable to validate the password, and unable to retrieve the user info (when I remove the auth entry of pam_unix.so). The Centos-6 install is only 5 days old, so it does not have a lot of baggage. The unix_chkpwd is suid and has execute rights for everybody, so it should be able to check the shadow file (which has no privileges at all?).

• MySQL has stopped accepting connections from other users than root

  Hi there. I'm running a mysql-server a long with apache and tomcat on a Gentoo box. To administer mysql I'm using phpMyAdmin. A couple of hours ago I received a call -- a user was unable to login to phpmyadmin. I logged on to phpmyadmin with the root user, and reset the password. The user was still not able to login. I then decided to give it a go myself, and even I wasn't able to login. I tried creating several user accounts, none of them were able to access mysql via jdbc/mysql-client/phpmyadmin. The only user that seems to work is root. What's even more strange is that websites that connect to mysql with a user other than root are still able to login and retrieve content from the database (it's mainly wordpress and a tomcat webapp). I have made sure it's not just cached, I was able to post SQL queries to the database via these web apps still. However, I am unable to login to phpmyadmin/mysql-client with this user and I am also unable to set up a connection with this user for any new web-applications. Any help is immensely appreciated.

  I have a PHP CLI script mostly written that functions as a chat server for chat clients to connect to (don't ask me why I'm doing it in PHP, thats another story haha). My script utilizes the socket_select() function to hang execution until something happens on a socket, at which point it wakes up, processes the event, and waits until the next event. Now, there are some routine tasks that I need performed every 30 seconds or so (check of tempbanned users should be unbanned, save user databases, other assorted things). From what I can tell, PHP doesn't have very great multi-threading support at all. My first thought was to compare a timestamp every time the socket generates an event and gets the program flowing again, but this is very inconsistent since the server could very well sit idle for hours and not have any of my cleanup routines executed. I came across the PHP pcntl extensions, and it lets me use assign a time interval for SIGALRM to get sent and a function get executed every time it's sent. This seems like the ideal solution to my problem, however pcntl_alarm() and socket_select() clash with each other pretty bad. Every time SIGALRM is triggered, all sorts of crazy things happen to my socket control code. My program is fairly lengthy so I can't post it all here, but it shouldn't matter since I don't believe I'm doing anything wrong code-wise. My question is: Is there any way for a SIGALRM to be handled in the same thread as a waiting socket_select()? If so, how? If not, what are my alternatives here? Here's some output from my program. My alarm function simply outputs "Tick!" whenever it's called to make it easy to tell when stuff is happening. • ubercart search - products aren't indexed

I have created a few products on my website, but am unable to get these products indexed. The default ApacheSolr module works, i.e., I am able to index drupal's default stories. • Importing VMware drive into VirtualBox drive

  I have VMware on my Mac and it crashed. I am unable to access the files used by the VMware. So I downloaded VirtualBox and when I try to add the .vmwarevm file to VirtualBox it says that its unable to read that type. I wasn't sure if there was a way i can get to these files as they are extremely important. I can not shutdown or open my virtual state in VMware whatsoever. Thoughts?

• MySQL on Windows 7 multiple connections issue.

  I just installed MySql on windows 7 ... issue is i'm unable to get multiple connection to MySql . If I connect with command line than i'm unable to connect through any other client and vice versa. Previously I was using same version of MySql i.e. 5.1 on vista and it was working fine.
