    Background: Developer with loads of experience in desktop computing. C++, Java etc Wants to dabble in: Living social. Yeah, you guessed it right -- website development. Perhaps will need to learn PHP or Javascript, SOAP, XML etc. Positives: Knows nothing about ASP or jQuery -- clean slate really. What's that 1 piece of advice that you'd give here?     I've got a standard Zend Framework 1 project that looks a bit like this: Project |- public |- .htaccess |- index.php The .htaccess looks like this: RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^image/.*$ img.php?file=$1 [NC,L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -s [OR] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -l [OR] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d RewriteRule ^.*$ - [NC,L] RewriteRule ^.*$ index.php [NC,L] Now I want to start transitioning the site to Zend Framework 2, which I put in a separate directory in the root, so the whole thing looks like this: Project |- public |- .htaccess |- index.php |- zf2 |- public |- .htaccess |- index.php What would I have to change in my original (ZF1) .htaccess to route all requests to (for example) /zf2/whatever to ZF2's index.php? I've tried RewriteRule ^zf2(/.*)$ ../zf2/public/index.php [NC,L] in the line after RewriteBase /, but that just gives me a 400 Bad Request.

    We are initiating in Spring + Primefaces development and the first problem we have encountered is about storing the xhtml pages into the WEB-INF folder. When we use a faces form in a view located inside the WEB-INF folder, then the commandButton does not execute the managed bean method. Our bean : In fact we think the problem is that with JSF , the pages are rendered using a link to the same page as the action of the form, so if the page is located in WEB-INF it is not public accessible. We know that having all our xhtml views in the web folder instead of WEB-INF actually solves the issue, but we would like to store that pages into WEB-INF. Thank you.

    After very long time using Ubuntu old LTS version I have re-installed to new LTS 12.10, but I can't get rid of ipv6 ! I have did: in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf: blacklist ipv6 blacklist ip6table_filter blacklist ip6_tables in /etc/sysctl.conf net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 1 net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6 = 1 net.ipv6.conf.lo.disable_ipv6 = 1 But ufw happily use v6 protocol, and in dmesg: ip6_tables: (C) 2000-2006 Netfilter Core Team . . IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): em1: link becomes ready What is going to take to get rid of IPv6 ? I swear Terminator didn't put so much fight.

    I'm really hoping somebody with more experience can edit the question as per my examples of answers: • using version control • test driven development • debugging code (xdebug for php) • use of UML diagrams • use of OOP for maintainable, reusable code • use of frameworks (like Zend Framework for php) for rapid application development Anything else or an elaboration of what I mentioned above? Basically, I'm in the middle of forming a team of developers (I'm a developer myself) and I'd like some advice on how professional programmers/designers etc should work together and what standards/paradigms they should use. Also, if anybody has any books or links on the subject I'd welcome that!   • Do reactive extensions and ETL go together?

    I don't fully understand reactive extensions, but my inital reading caused me think about the ETL code I have. Right now its basically a workflow to to perform various operations in a certain sequence based on conditions it find as it progresses. I can also imagine an event driven way such that only a small amount of imperative logic causes a chain reaction to occur. Of course I don't need a new type of programming model to make an event driven collaboration like that. Just the same I am wondering if ETL is a good fit for potentially exploring Rx further. Is my connection in a valid direction even? If not, could you briefly correct the error in my logic?

  • Should I Learn C/C++ Even If I Just Want To Do Web Programming?

    My goal is to be able to create online apps and dynamic, database driven websites. For instance, if in the future I get the idea for the next Digg or Facebook, I want to be able to code it myself. To arrive there I think I have basically two paths: Path 1 Start at a basic level, learning C, then C++ for OOP, then algorithms and data structures, with the goal of getting a solid grasp of computer programming. Only then move to PHP/MySQL/HTTP and start working on practical programming projects. Path 2 Start directly with PHP/MySQL/HTTP and getting my hands dirty with practical projects right away. What would you guys recommend?

  • Rotation, further I go from 0:0, the further the object positions around the origin while rotating

    For some reason I am having the issue where the following code: global.spriteBatch.Draw(obj.sprite, obj.getPosition(), null, Color.White, obj.rotation, obj.center, 2f, SpriteEffects.None, 1); causes the object to rotate around the origin in such a way, as though there is an offset to the position relative to its location. The calculation for the center it correct and this happens even if I set the pivot to be the location of the object. The further I get from 0:0 the larger the radius or rotation. I am not sure what is going on here because given the following tutorial http://www.riemers.net/eng/Tutorials/XNA/Csharp/Series2D/Rotation.php I have done the code setup correctly. Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Basically looking for quicker way to write notes on a site other than taking a screen shot my self and putting it into photoshop.   • 12.04 How to go back to command line only ubuntu

    I was attempting to install a command line only version of Ubuntu and followed the instructions here. I downloaded the alternate CD and went through the installation, but never got an "Install a command-line system." option. 12.04 is now up and running, though i don't need the desktop GUI. From what i have read i can set it back into text mode using grub, but what packages should i remove that i don't need any more?

    I finished University around 4 years ago double degree in Software Eng/Comp Sci. Got my first job at a startup in my final year, was with them for 2.5 years then started my own business. So far everything is going great, lots of clients and stead work etc, but coming right out of uni and into a start up I never had any form or senior software engineer guiding my work or suggesting improvements etc... Whats the best way for me to improve & learn more? Books? MS Exams? Other? I develop in C#, ASP.NET/MVC. Update The problem isn't really with releasing products, I've released quite a few which are up and running with customers happy. It's more with quality of code, best practices, how do I know something I am code is correct, it may work but there may be ways of coding it much more efficiently or by adhering to some kind of standard Cheers for any responses!   • 12.04 Dell GX260 resolution for 82845G/GL will not go greater than 1024x768

    I am a newbie to Linux and have installed 12.04 on to an old Dell GX260, I was hoping that I could slowly extract myself from Microsoft - but unless I can fix this simplest of problems I am thinking that this version of Linux is not ready for me yet!! I have read various posts but none seem to match, I believe the driver is installed, but under displays the maximum allowed in the drop down box is 1024x768 (4:3) display is unknown and detect displays does nothing. I have loaded all updates available but still no fix. xrandr shows: VGA1 connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm 1024x768 60.0* 800x600 60.3 56.2 848x480 60.0 640x480 59.9 xrandr --addmode VGA1 1360x768 cannot find mode "1360x768" anything above 1024x768 can not be found, but then I could be doing this out of step!!
