• pptpd not working externally on Ubuntu Server 11.10

  I am trying to set up a pptpd vpn on our newly installed Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit server, but am not having success having a client connect via an iPhone to the VPN. Note that no clients have been able to connect to this VPN from outside of the network. The system is up to date with patches. Here is the output of /var/log/syslog. Please note that 222.153.x.y is my remote IP address. Here is the output from /etc/iptables.rules.save *filter :FORWARD ACCEPT [0:0] :INPUT ACCEPT [0:0] :OUTPUT ACCEPT [0:0] COMMIT Even with these rules applied, the output from /var/log/syslog is LINE FOR LINE what I saw in the the first block of code. Please note that before running this Ubuntu server; an old SME Server box was running in place of it, that had a pptpd server on it just like we are using, and we experienced no issues.

• Lenovo R61i - audio not working with windows 7

  Has any one got a solution to this problem. I have installed windows 7 pro and installed audio (coexant) latest driver from the lenovo web site but it still does not work. I have seen many similar posts but no solution - just the usual - do you have the most recent driver.... etc. Is there any one that has solved this problem out there? • Outlook rules not working together

  I have multiple Outlook (2010) rules and these 2 are having issues together: Rule 1: Apply this rule after the message arrives with blahname in the sender's address and move it to the BlahBox folder. Rule 2: Apply this rule after the message arrives from [email protected] move it to the NoReply folder. If I have rule 1 above rule 2, only rule 1 works (noreply emails stay in the Inbox folder). If I swap and have rule 2 above rule 1, only rule 2 works (blahname emails stay in the Inbox folder). What am I doing wrong; how can I fix this so it applies both rules on incoming email? I'm fairly certain the two rules should never intersect (blahname != domain.com). Also I do not have "this computer only" checked on any rules, I avoid client-only rules.

• hosts.deny not working

  Currently I am watching the live auth.log and someone is continuously trying the brute force attack for 10 hours. Its my local server so no need to worry but I want to test. I have installed denyhosts. There is already an entry for that IP address in hosts.deny. But still he is trying the attacks from same IP. System is not blocking that. Firstly I don't know how did that IP address get entered in that file. I didn't enter it, is there any other system script which can do that. hosts.deny is sshd: 120.195.108.22 sshd: 95.130.12.64 hosts.allow ALL:ALL sshd: ALL Is there any iptable setting that can override the host.deny file

• webmin not working on port 10000

  Hi, I posted a similar question yesterday but can't seem to find that post. I have installed webmin on my server which has SSL and its service is running but I am unable to open it in browser. I thought may be the port is blocked by server's firewall so I entered port 10000 (TCP - inbound) in APF but still no luck. When I use https://localhost:10000 on server to access webmin then it works fine but not remotely. Why is such a simple thing so hard to run? Thanks

  Since I have my new computer, I have a very weird problem. Facts: New Computer: Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Pro 3 Graphics-card: Asus1GB D5 X EN GTX560 DCII OC/2DI R CPU: Intel i5-3570 Windows 7 64bit 500W beQuiet special edition (92% efficiency) 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 Corsair RAM (CL9) Scythe Mugen 2 2 magnetic HDDs + 1 SDD 1 DVD-R Old Computer: Motherboard: Asus P55 something Graphics-card: Asus1GB D5 X EN GTX560 DCII OC/2DI R CPU: Intel i7-870 Windows 7 64bit 550W Corsair 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 Corsair RAM (CL9) Scythe Mugen 3 2 magnetic HDDs + 1 SDD 1 DVD-R On the old computer it worked fine with two monitors. Moving to the new (I took the same Graphics-card) it only works with one. The weird thing I mentioned is: not matter which one. But if I put both there, only one is available. There is no reaction at the start (where normally (at least if I remember correctly) the monitor shortly went from "standby" to "on"). Windows does not recognize a second monitor in the Device Manager. I have the latest drivers for Motherboard and Graphics-card. I have the latest BIOS drivers. I am out of ideas. • My windows xp wireless hotspot wifi isn't working

  I add the hotspot the regular way. Yet it doesn't show up as available when I try to connect to it using my other Ubuntu laptop. And nothing can connect to it. Yesterday, I successfully made it work for 5 minutes and then it stopped without me changing any configuration. I've already tryed resetting the DNS. Edit: I've updated my Broadcom 802.11b/g driver to a generic but more recent version. I've also repaired the WMI, now the advanced tab of my primary connection is available and the hand meaning the connection is shared appeared. But the computers still connect the wrong way around. (Windows to ubuntu instead of ubuntu to windows) Reinstalled SP3...

• Python multithreading not working on VPS server

  I am running an python multithreaded application with multiple processes which scrapes data from some websites. While running on my localhost It works great, but on the vps server I am using( Centos 5.8, 2.6 GHZ with 4 cores) performs very slow. From the nethogs command I get the network usage too low. I get around 8KBps with 15 threads. On other hand, in my PC I get the usage around 100-120KBPS. I have read about the Python GIL and threading limitations. It seems GIL never releases the lock on the VPS though it should while doing I/0 Is there any configuration in the VPS that I need to change for the threading to work properly?

  I have a new install of VIM from the automatic windows installer: gvim73_46.exe I have Python 2.7 (32 bit) installed. If I open gvim, and type: :set python? I get E518: Unknown option. If I try typing: :python 'hello' Vim crashes. What could be wrong? Here are the contents of :version in case they are helpful, although python is installed, and it is using Python 2.7. • jsonp cross domain only working in IE

  EDIT: At first I thought it wasn't working cross domain at all, now I realize it only works in IE I'm using jQuery to call a web service (ASP.NET .axmx), and trying to us jsonp so that I can call it across different sites. Right now it is working ONLY in IE, but not in Firefox, Chrome, Safari. Also, in IE, a dialog pops up warning "This page is accessing information that is not under its control..." Any ideas? • WordPress permalinks not working, everything seems fine

  I have a WordPress blog I've migrated from another CMS, and I've being having a lot of problems with my permalinks structure: lots of articles give a 404, although they are there, somewhere, published. The site is www.muycomputerpro.com (MCP for short), and for example an article that should be found is: http://muycomputerpro.com/Actualidad/Especiales/2009-las-grandes-crecen-en-la-bolsa If I do a search on the search tool at MCP, the result is there (see EnlacesMCP-1.jpg) But when I click on the link, our 404 error page appears (see EnlacesMCP-2.jpg) The weird thing is, the article is published, and the permalink is the right one, as you can see on this screenshot of the WordPress CMS: The permalink (below the title) is correct (http://www.muycomputerpro.com/Actualidad/Especiales/2009-las-grandes-crecen-en-la-bolsa/) but it does not work. In fact, if I try to use the short link (http://www.muycomputerpro.com/?p=5023) the article does not show either. I've accessed my WordPress DB and I've search the article to see if there is something wrong there, but from what I can tell all the fields are OK, here's a screenshot: I really don't know what is causing this. The permalink structure should work (I'm using the "Custom permalink" plugin to preserve the old URLs that had a alphanumeric code at the end of the postname) and the permalink config on wordpress is "/%postname%/". I really need help :(

• SSH Private Key Not Working in Some Directories

  I have a strange issue where SSH won't properly connect with a private-key if the key file is in certain directories. I've setup the keys on a set of servers and the following command ssh -i /root/privatekey [email protected] works fine and I login to the given host without getting prompted by a password, but this command: ssh -i /etc/keyfiles/privatekey [email protected] gives me a password prompt. I've narrowed it down that this behavior occurs in only some sub-directories of /etc/. For example /etc/httpd1/ gives me a password prompt but /etc/httpd/ does not. What I've checked so far: All private key files used are identical (copied from the original file). The private key file and directories used have identical permissions. No relevant error messages in the server/client logs. No interesting debug messages from ssh -v (it just seems to skip the key file). It happens with connecting to different hosts. After more testing it is not the actual directory name. For example: mkdir /etc/test cp /root/privatekey /etc/test ssh -i /etc/test/privatekey [email protected] # Results in password prompt cp /root/privatekey /etc/httpd # Existing directory ls -ald test httpd # drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Mar 5 18:25 httpd # drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Mar 5 18:43 test ssh -i /etc/httpd/privatekey [email protected] # Results in *no* prompt rm -r test cp -R /etc/httpd /etc/test ssh -i /etc/test/privatekey [email protected] # Results in *no* prompt` I'm sure its just something simple I've overlooked but I'm at a loss.

• Upstart multiple instances of service not working

  I started playing with MongoDB on Lucid. Now I would like to run a DB and Config server on the same box. They both use the same binary to launch, but with different config files and running on different ports. All directories for log and lib is split so one goes to mongodb and the other to mongoconf. Each process can be started without any problems on their own. start mongodb stop mongodb start mongoconf stop mongoconf But if I try to start both, the second one would just start and exit. Using 'initctl log-priority debug' I got the following in the logs. Jan 6 12:44:12 mongo4 init: event_finished: Finished started event Jan 6 12:44:12 mongo4 init: job_process_handler: Ignored event 1 (1) for process 5690 Jan 6 12:44:12 mongo4 init: mongoconf (mongoconf) main process (5690) terminated with status 1 Jan 6 12:44:12 mongo4 init: mongoconf (mongoconf) goal changed from start to stop Jan 6 12:44:12 mongo4 init: mongoconf (mongoconf) state changed from running to stopping man 5 init shows that you can use instance names to differentiate the two. I tried using 'instance mongoconf' in the on upstart script and 'instance mongodb' in the other one, and it still fails. I can manually start the other process, so there is definitely no conflicts on port numbers or directories. Any ideas on what to try or how to get output on why it is 'terminated with status 1'? • Folder redirection GPO doesn't seem to be working

  I've been trying to set up roaming profiles and folder redirection, but have hit a bit of a snag with the latter. This is exactly what I've done so far: (I have OU permissions and GPO permissions over my division's OU.) Created a group called Roaming-Users in the OU 'Groups' Added a single user (testuser) to the group Using the Group Policy Management tool (via RSAT on Windows 7) I right-clicked on the Groups OU and selected 'Create a GPO in this domain, and Link it here' Added my 'Roaming-Users' group to the Security Filtering section of the policy. Added the Folder Redirection option, specifically for Documents. It is set to redirect to: \myserver\Homes$\%USERNAME%\Documents (Homes$ exists and is sharing-enabled). Right-clicked on the policy under the Groups OU and checked Enforced. Logged into a machine as testuser successfully. Created a simple text file, saved some gibberish, logged off. Remoted into the server with Homes$ on it, noticed that the directory Homes$\testuser was created, but was empty. No text file to be found. From what I've read, I did everything I aught to...but I can't quite figure out the issue. I had no errors when I logged off about syncing issues (offline files is enabled) or anything, so I can only imagine my file should have ended up up on the share. Any ideas? EDIT: Using gpresult /R, I confirmed the user is in fact part of the Roaming-Users group, but does not have the policy applied, if that helps. EDIT 2: Apparently you can't apply GPOs to groups...so I applied to users and used the same security filter to limit it to my test user. Nothing happens as far as redirection goes, but I now have the following error in the event log: Folder redirection policy application has been delayed until the next logon because the group policy logon optimization is in effect

• Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 Find and Replace ALT-F not working

  I'm using a demo of Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 and I've notice that they no longer open the Find and Replace in a separate window. The problem with this, at least on Windows 7, is that I can't use the normal hotkey shortcuts like ALT-F because its being intercepted by the main Window and brings up the file menu drop down. Is there a fix for this?

• Wireless card on HP laptop not working

  I just bought an HP Envy m6-1125dx online from Best Buy. When I got it home and started it up, the wireless card did not work well - at all. I could connect, but any real usage would cause the connection to start dropping every 30 seconds or so, and it would be really slow. Taking another look at the reviews on the Best Buy site, it seems only a few others had this problem, so I took it to my local Best Buy and exchanged it for another unit. Got it home again and the card had the same issues. Which leads to my dilemma. First: does this model have several different cards that it could come with? Mine is a Ralink RT5390R (on both units I received). If it does, then I can keep exchanging until I get a unit with a different card. I wouldn't ask this, except it seems weird that only a few people mentioned this issue, so I thought that might be one possibility. I looked in to replacing the card with a different one myself, but it seems that HP blocks certain wireless cards. However, some people reported success in replacing the card, and this site said it was only an issue on "older HP computer[s]". Can anyone confirm this? Finally, if that fails/will not work, does anyone know what I can get through Best Buy? I am concerned that they will not put any different card than the Ralink, and after two of those, I don't want that. Can I ask Best Buy support to use a different card? Can they even get another card from HP? I guess the base question is: should I attempt to replace the card myself (two days via Amazon to get a new card), should I try to get the laptop repaired through Best Buy (two - four weeks), should I go for a different model laptop from Best Buy, or should I try a different unit of the same model (three's the charm?).

• Cmd+Less Than (10.8.2) not working after Xcode (4.5.x) installed

  I had to reinstall my MBP recently. I stress Cmd+Less Than a lot for switching between Xcode's main window and the Organizer for documentation. The standard OSX-shortcut for doing that is Cmd + Less Than. After installing Xcode it didn't work any longer. I saw, that Xcode uses Cmd+LT for "Edit Schemes", a rarely used option. Even after deleting the shortcut for "Edit Schemes" in Xcode, Cmd+LT didn't work. How can I get Cmd + Less Than to work again? Mac OS X Mount Lion 10.8.2 Xcode 4.5.2 I have less than 10 reputation on superuser (acutally first post here), so I can't post the answer to my question. Would yo be so kind and upvote this question, so I can officially answer the question? The question, as well as the answer is only correct, if you use German keyboard layout.

• How can I have 2 users working on the same PC at the same time

  I have a pc/machine that has its own ip address and it can be connected to by certain external PC's through our firewall. User A has a RDP connection from say Germany directly to the PC - his ip number is allowed through our firewall to connect to the PC. He now wants User B to connect at the same time so that User B can see what User A is doing on the screen at the same time and maybe take over the screen to put his input in. I know that you cannot have 2 RDP connections at the same time but what would be the easiest solution to this. I want User A to keep his RDP connection, but I am unsure of what to suggest so that User B can see what is going on at the same time. The Users are not happy to use Real VNC, etc.

• File Hippo Update Checker Not Working in Win 7

  Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit 2 GB RAM Duo 1.6MHz processors Since upgrading from Vista to Win 7 File Hippo Update Checker no longer works? It appears to go through the motions of checking the software because the popup window appears but it never fires up the results in a browser which it used to do in Vista. It simply does nothing after the initial popup window appears and disappears. Have tried uninstall/reinstall with no joy. Any ideas?

• twitter gem not working in heroku ?

  Hello, I'm working on a ruby app that updates a twitter account using 'twitter' gem. It's working fine locally (as usual :) ). But when I deploy it on heroku it seems the gem is not properly installed or something lile that as I got the following error: NameError: uninitialized constant Twitter::OAuth My code is very simple: oauth = Twitter::OAuth.new(consumer_token, consumer_secret) oauth.authorize_from_access(access_token, access_secret) client = Twitter::Base.new(oauth) client.update("Updating my status from twitter gem. GREAT!") Is there a problem with this particular gem ? Thanks a lot for your help. Luc
