  • [EF + ORACLE] Updating and Deleting Entities

    - by JTorrecilla
    Prologue In previous chapters we have seen how to insert data through EF, with and without sequences. In this one, we are going to see how to Update and delete Data from the DB. Updating data The update of the Entity Data (properties) is a very common and easy action. Before of change any of the properties of the Entity, we can check the EntityState property, and we can see that is EntityState.Unchanged.   For making an update it is needed to get the Entity which will be modified. In the following example, I use the GetEmployeeByNumber to get a valid Entity: 1: EMPLEADOS emp=GetEmployeeByNumber(2); 2: emp.Name="a"; 3: emp.Phone="2"; 4: emp.Mail="aa"; After modifying the desired properties of the Entity, we are going to check again Entitystate property, which now has the EntityState.Modified value. To persist the changes to the DB is necessary to invoke the SaveChanges function of our context. 1: context.SaveChanges(); After modifying the desired properties of the Entity, we are going to check again Entitystate property, which now has the EntityState.Modified value. To persist the changes to the DB is necessary to invoke the SaveChanges function of our context. If we check again the EntityState property we will see that the value will be EntityState.Unchanged.   Deleting Data Another easy action is to delete an Entity.   The first step to delete an Entity from the DB is to select the entity: 1: CLIENTS selectedClient = GetClientByNumber(15); 2: context.CLIENTES.DeleteObject(clienteSeleccionado); Before invoking the DeleteObject function, we will check EntityStet which value must be EntityState.Unchanged. After deleting the object, the state will be changed to EntitySate.Deleted. To commit the action we have to invoke the SaveChanges function. Aftar that, the EntityState property will be EntityState.Detached. Cascade Entity Framework lets cascade updates and deletes, although I never see cascade updates. What is a cascade delete? A cascade delete is an action that allows to delete all the related object to the object we desire to delete. This option could be established in the DB manager, or it could be in the EF model designer. For example: With a given relation (1-N) between clients and requests. The common situation must be to let delete those clients whose have no requests. If we select the relation between both entities, and press the second mouse button, we can see the properties panel of the relation. The props are: This grid shows the relations indicating the Master table(Clients) and the end point (Cabecera or Requests) The property “End 1 OnDelete” indicates the action to do when a Entity from the Master will be deleted. There are two options: - None: No action will be done, it is said, if a Entity has details entities it could not be deleted. - Cascade: It will delete all related entities to the master Entity. If we enable the cascade delete in a relation, and we invoke the DeleteObject function of the set, we could observe that all the related object indicates a Entitystate.Deleted state. Like an update, insert or common delete, until we commit the changes with SaveChanges function, the data would not be commited. Finally In this chapter we have seen how to update a Entity, how to delete an Entity and how to implement Cascade Deleting through EF. In next chapters we will see how to query the DB data.

  • infix operation to postfix using stacks

    - by Chris De La O
    We are writing a program that needs to convert an infix operation (4 5/3) to postfix (4 5 3 / ) using stacks. however my convert to postfix does not work as it doesnt not output the postFix array that is supposed to store the conversion from infix notation to postfix notation. here is the code for the convertToPostix fuction. //converts infix expression to postfix expression void ArithmeticExpression::convertToPostfix(char *const inFix, char *const postFix) { //create a stack2 object named cow Stack2<char> cow; cout<<postFix; char thing = '('; //push a left parenthesis onto the stack cow.push(thing); //append a right parenthesis to the end of inFix array strcat(inFix, ")"); int i = 0;//declare an int that will control posFix position //if the stack is not empty if (!cow.isEmpty()) { //loop to run until the last character in inFix array for (int x = 0; inFix[x]!= '\0'; x++ ) { //if the inFix element is a digit if (isdigit(inFix[x])) { postFix[i]=inFix[x];//it is assigned to the next element in postFix array i++;//move on to next element in postFix } //if the inFix element is a left parenthesis else if (inFix[x]=='(') { cow.push(inFix[x]);//push it unto the stack } //if the inFix element is an operator else if (isOperator(inFix[x])) { char oper2 = inFix[x];//char variable holds inFix operator if (isOperator(cow.stackTop()))//if the top node in the stack is an operator { while (isOperator(cow.stackTop()))//and while the top node in the stack is an operator { char oper1 = cow.stackTop();//char variable holds node operator if(precedence( oper1, oper2))//if the node operator has higher presedence than node operator { postFix[i] = cow.pop();//we pop such operator and insert it in postFix array's next element cow.push(inFix[x]);//and push inFix operator unto the stack i++;//move to the next element in posFix } } } //if the top node is not an operator //we push the current inFix operator unto the top of the stack else cow.push(inFix[x]); } //if the inFix element is a right parenthesis else if (inFix[x]==')') { //we pop everything in the stack and insert it in postFix //until we arrive at a left paranthesis while (cow.stackTop()!='(') { postFix[i] = cow.pop(); i++; } //we then pop and discard left parenthesis cow.pop(); } } postFix[i]='\0'; //print !!postFix array!! (not stack) print();//code for this is just cout<<postFix; }

  • Fix Problems Upgrading Office 2010 Beta to RTM (Final) Release

    - by Mysticgeek
    There are several scenarios where you may run into trouble uninstalling the 2010 Beta and trying to install the RTM (final) release. Today we’ll cover the problems we ran into, and how to fix them. You would think upgrading from the Office 2010 Beta to the final release would be an easy process. Unfortunately, it’s not always that simple. In fact, we ran into three different scenarios where the install wasn’t smooth whatsoever. If you currently have the 2010 Beta installed, you have to remove it before you can install the RTM.  Here we’ll take a look at three different troublesome install scenarios we ran into, and how we fixed each one. Important Note: Before proceeding with any of these steps, make sure and backup your Outlook .pst files! Scenario 1 – Uninstall Office 2010 Beta & Fix Install Errors In this first scenario we have Office Professional Plus 2010 Beta 32-bit installed on a Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit system. First try to uninstall the Office 2010 Beta by going into Control Panel and selecting Programs and Features. Scroll down to Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010, right-click it and select Uninstall. Click Yes when the confirmation dialog box comes up. Wait while Office 2010 Beta uninstalls…the amount of time it takes will vary from system to system. To complete the uninstall process, a reboot is required. Fixing Setup Errors The problem is when you start the installation of the 2010 RTM… You get the following setup error even though you uninstalled the 2010 Beta. The problem is there are leftover Office apps or stand alone Office products. So, we need a utility that will clean them up for us.   Windows Installer Clean Up Utility Download and install the Clean Up Utility (link Below) following the defaults. After it’s installed you’ll find it in Start \ All Programs \ Windows Install Clean Up …go ahead and launch the utility. Now go through and remove all Office Programs or addins that you find in the list. Make sure you are just deleting Office apps and not something you need like Java for example. If you’re not sure what something is, doing a quick Google search should help you out. For instance we had the Office labs Ribbon Hero installed… just highlight and click Remove. Remove anything that has something to do with Office…then reboot your machine. Now, you should be able to begin the installation of Office 2010 RTM (Final) Release without any errors. If you do get an error during the install process, like this one telling us we have old version of Groove Server… Navigate to C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft (where username is the computer name) and delete any existing MS Office folders. Then try the install again, this solved the problem in our first scenario. Scenario 2 – Not Being Able to Uninstall 2010 Beta from Programs and Features In this next scenario we have Office Professional Plus 2010 Beta 32-bit installed on a Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit system. Another problem we ran into is not being able to uninstall the 2010 Beta from Programs and Features. When you go in to uninstall it, nothing happens. If you run into this problem, we again need to download and install the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility (link below) and manually uninstall the Beta. When you launch it, scroll down to Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 (Beta), highlight it and click Remove.   Click OK to the Warning Dialog box… If you see any other Office 2010, 2007, or 2003 entries you can hold the “Shift” key and highlight them all…then click Remove and click OK to the warning dialog. Now we need to delete some Registry settings. Click on Start and type regedit into the Search box and hit Enter. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Office and delete the folder. Then navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Office and delete those keys as well. Now go into C:\Program Files and find any of these three folders…Microsoft Office, OfficeUpdate, or OfficeUpdate14…you might find one, two or all three. Either way just rename the folders with “_OLD” (without quotes) at the end. Then go into C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft and delete any existing MS Office folders. Where in this example we have office, Office Labs, One Note…etc. Now we want to delete the contents of the Temp folder. Click on Start and type %temp% into the Search box and hit Enter. Use the key combination “Ctrl+A” to select all the files in this folder, then right-click and click Delete, or simply hit the Delete key. If you have some files that won’t delete, just skip them as they shouldn’t affect the Office install. Then empty the Recycle Bin and restart your machine. When you get back from the restart launch the Office 2010 RTM installer and you should be good to go with installation. Because we uninstalled the Office 2010 Beta manually, you may have some lingering blank icons that you’ll need to clean up. Scenario –3 Uninstall 2007 and Install 2010 32-Bit on x64 Windows 7 For this final scenario we are uninstalling Office Professional 2007 and installing Office Professional Plus 2010 32-Bit edition on a Windows Ultimate 64-bit computer. This machine actually had Office 2010 Beta 64-bit installed at one point also, it’s since been removed, and 2007 was reinstalled.  Go into Programs and Settings and uninstall Microsoft Office Professional 2007. Click Yes to the dialog box asking if you’re sure you want to uninstall it… Then wait while Office 2007 is uninstalled. The amount of time it takes will vary between systems. A restart is required to complete the process… Again we need to call upon the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility. Go through and delete any left over Office 2007 and 2010 entries. Click OK to the warning dialog that comes up. After that’s complete, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Office and delete the folder. Then navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Office and delete those keys as well. We still need to go into C:\Users\ username\AppData\ Local\ Microsoft (where username is the computer name) and delete any Office folders. In this example we have Outlook Connector, Office, and Outlook to delete. Now let’s delete the contents of the Temp folder by typing %temp% into the Search box in the Start Menu. Then delete all of the files and folders in the Temp directory. If you have some files that won’t delete, just skip them as they shouldn’t affect the Office install. Then empty the Recycle Bin and restart your machine. If you try to install the 2010 RTM at this point you might be able to begin the install, but may get the following Error 1402 message. To solve this issue, we opened the command prompt and ran the following: secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose After the command completes, kick off the Office 2010 (Final) RTM 32-bit edition. This solved the issue and Office 2010 installed successfully.   Conclusion Except for the final scenario, we found using the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility to come in very handy. Using that along with deleting a couple folders and registry settings did the trick. In the last one, we had to get a bit more geeky and use some command line magic, but it got the job done. After some extensive testing in our labs, the only time the upgrade to the RTM went smoothly was when we had a clean Vista or Windows 7 system with a fresh install of the 2010 beta only. However, chances are you went from 2003 or 2007 to the free 2010 Beta. You might also have addins or other Office products installed, so there are going to be a lot of different office files scattered throughout your PC. If that’s the case, you may run into the issues we covered here. These are a few scenarios where we got errors and were not able to install Office 2010 after removing the beta. • How do I Delete a View? How do I Create a View?

    - by Paula DiTallo
    Before I create views, I generally work out what I want to retrieve in my SELECT statement ahead of time so I'll just  have to cut and  paste the query. The example below is done  in T-SQL/Sybase format, however for Oracle and MySQL, just  place a semi-colon ';' at the end of your statement and remove the  'GO' command.          To drop (delete) an existing view: DROP VIEW vw_rpt_metroBestCustomers GO To create a view: CREATE VIEW vw_rpt_metroBestCustomers ( CustomerName,    OfficeNum,    City,    StateOrProv,    Country,    ZipCode   ) AS SELECT a.FirstName + ', ' + a.LastName,           b.OfficePhoneNum,           c.City,           c.StateOrProvAbbr,           c.Country,           c.PostalCode     FROM Customer a,          CustLocAssoc x,          CustContactAssoc y,          Location c,          Contact b     WHERE a.CustID = x.CustID       AND a.CustID = y.CustID       AND y.ContactID = b.ContactID       AND x.LocID = c.LocID       AND a.LoyaltyMedian > 85.5 GO        I frequently rename columns when developing views to makeit easier for simple, text-based reporting--however, renamingthe columns isn't necessary.The create view statement above could have been writtenas follows:CREATE VIEW vw_rpt_metroBestCustomersAS (SELECT a.FirstName + ', ' + a.LastName, b.OfficePhoneNum, c.City, c.StateOrProvAbbr, c.Country, c.PostalCode FROM Customer a, CustLocAssoc x, CustContactAssoc y, Location c, Contact b WHERE a.CustID = x.CustID AND a.CustID = y.CustID AND y.ContactID = b.ContactID AND x.LocID = c.LocID AND a.LoyaltyMedian > 85.5 )GO

  • how to use a batch file to delete a line of text in a bunch of text files? [on hold]

    - by wbt
    I have a bunch of txt files in my D drive which are placed randomly in different locations.Some files also contain symbols.I want a batch file so that i can delete their specific lines completely at the same time without doing it one by one for each file and please refer to a code which does not create a new text file at some other location with the changes being incorporated i.e I do not want the input.txt and output.txt thing.I just need the original files to be replaced with the changes as soon as i click the batch file. e.g D:\abc\1.txt D:\xyz\2.txt etc I want both of their 3rd lines erased completely with a single click and the new file must be saved with the same name in the same location i.e the new changed text files must replace the old text files with their respective lines removed.Maybe some sort of *.txt thing i.e i should be able to change all the files with the .txt extensions in a drive via a single batch file perhaps in another drive,not placing my batch file into each and every folder separately and then running them.Alternatively a vbs file is also welcomed. SORRY FOR THE LONG AND THOROUGH MESSAGE BUT I'M WONDERING ALL OVER THE INTERNET FOR THE LAST TWO DAYS JUST FOR THIS ONE BATCH FILE.ALL THE INFORMATION I GET IS A SORT OF JARGON FOR ME AS I AM NOT A GEEK WITH THE SCRIPTING.PLEASE DESCRIBE THE CODE TOO.YOUR HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED

  • Powershell script to delete sub folders and files if creation date is >7 days but maintain parent folders of sub folders and files <7 days old

    - by Mark
    I'm currently using the Powershell script below to delete all files directories and sub directories of "$dump_path" that are seven days or older based upon the creation date and not modified date. The problem with this script is this: If folder "A" is seven (or more) days old it will be deleted even if its sub folders and files are less then seven days old. What I would like this script to do is this: Delete all files from the root and in all sub folders of "$dump_path" that are seven or more days old but maintain the parent folder(s) of files and folders that are less than seven days old even if that means the parent folders are more than seven days old. If all subfolders and files are seven days or older than the parent folder then the parent can be deleted. Slightly obscure problem I know, but the intention is to have a 7 day retention period of all data in a 'sandbox' location of our shared areas. Also, an added bonus if it could generate a log of what it deletes and e-mails it out post deletion. Thank you for reading and I hope that all makes sense! Mark # set folder path $dump_path = "c:\temp" # set minimum age of files and folders $max_days = "-7" # get the current date $curr_date = Get-Date # determine how far back we go based on current date $del_date = $curr_date.AddDays($max_days) # delete the files and folders Get-ChildItem $dump_path | Where-Object { $_.CreationTime -lt $del_date } | Remove-Item -Recurse

  • Will restoring a cPanel account delete irrelevant mysql databases?

    - by user54625
    Long story short: I have many accounts in WHM, many domains. However, most of the MySQL databases for all the sites were created under one user, "admin" (let's say it's admin.com). I recently moved the admin.com account to another web server , and now I need to move it back. I would like to restore this account from a backup made by that web server. However, it only has 3 databases attached to that domain, while the server I'm moving it to has those 3 databases (old DBs that need to be replaced), PLUS all the other databases which are used by other accounts on the server. My question: if I restore the admin.com account, will it delete all the other databases on the account, or will it only replace the 3 DBs it has? I can't take any chances here to delete all those other DBs... If it WOULD delete all those other accounts, how would I go about restoring this account without losing the other data? An easy to way to resolve this situation would be to move the mysql owners to the proper accounts, but alas it doesn't seem that there is a way to do that via WHM.

  • What is going on when I can't access an SMB server share (not accessible error) until I run cmdkey to delete the credential?

    - by Warren P
    I have a network connection share issue. The first connection works, and seems to stay connected for at least a few hours. However, after each time my windows 7 PC reboots, it can no longer form a network connection to the shared folder, nor browse to it, until I not only unmap and remap the mapped drive, but also, I have to use cmdkey to delete the stored credentials like this: cmdkey /delete:Domain:target=HOSTNAME My work PC is on a domain, and I am not the IT administrator, but I'm curious if there is anything I can do to investigate this issue. Any settings in registry or group policy that I could examine to see why the first connection works, but each subsequent attempt (once a stored credential exists) to browse or use the connection, fails with a connection error saying it is "not accessible", like this: I do not even get any error until at least several minutes go by. THe first thing I see is a window frozen and empty, and then I get this error: This has happened when connecting to a share on a DROBO device, and on a share which is not on the domain, but which was a Microsoft Home Server. I wonder if there's something broken in WIndows 7 professional with regards to connecting to non-domain shares when an active directory domain controller exists, and a particular workstation is joined to a domain? The problem only occurs if I click "remember credentials". It is not fixed by any amount of working with net use. Usingcmdkey to delete all stored credentials for the host is the only way to get back in, and it affects all non-domain shared folders. Update I'm hoping there are some registry locations I could check that could be misconfigured in some way that might explain why SMB/CIFS stored credentials for non-domain systems seem to be auto-invalidated in this weird way. Knowing how whacko Microsoft Windows domain and security handling is sometimes, this could be some kind of stupid "feature".

  • Trying to delete a directory stored on a Windows server, from on a Mac, containing files created on the Mac, getting "Directory not empty"

    - by AdamG
    I am trying to delete a directory stored on a Windows 2008 R2 server, mounted on a Mac as network home (10.8.5). The directory was created by Safari and stores temporary internet files. I need to be able to delete this folder on logout from a Mac bash script. The Terminal on Mac shows the directory as empty: 36W-FacRm-02:History lwickham$ cd /home/lwickham/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari/History 36W-FacRm-02:History lwickham$ ls -al total 0 drwx------ 1 lwickham CGPS\Domain Users 264 Nov 8 09:24 . drwx------ 1 lwickham CGPS\Domain Users 264 Nov 8 09:28 .. • how do i completely delete ask.com from my computer?

    - by celyn
    I have used Final Uninstaller (unregistered version) to remove it. So it removed the toolbar and the things in its folder from C:Program Files/Ask.com except for one thing; remaining are "Ask.com" folder > "Updater" folder > "Updater.exe" I have not checked my registry yet. But if there is something I want it to be gone! As to why I can't delete that updater thing, my laptop asks me permission (says need to be admin) whenever I tried to delete anything from ask.com folder, or its folder at all. I have googled, came to and followed the instructions from "Scott McClenning" in this post. Does not really work. When I say "not really", means, this error message pops up everytime I tried to do that: An error occurred applying attributes to the file: C:/Program Files/Ask.com Access is denied. How can I gain access? I AM the admin for this computer. And... don't ask me to download too many things for my computer, it adds to my frustration. Just in case you are wondering, I got this from FormatFactory when I updated it to 2.70. I should not have done so. Update: Now after I restarted my computer, I got the "EVERYONE" group in and it is under Full Control with every box ticked except for the last one (Special). When I tried to delete that folder and the .exe file, this keeps popping up as i click "try again", only goes away when I click "cancel"

  • What is the justification for Python's power operator associating to the right?

    - by Pieter Müller
    I am writing code to parse mathematical expression strings, and noticed that the order in which chained power operators are evaluated in Python differs from the order in Excel. From http://docs.python.org/reference/expressions.html: "Thus, in an unparenthesized sequence of power and unary operators, the operators are evaluated from right to left (this does not constrain the evaluation order for the operands): -1*2 results in -1."* This means that, in Python: 2**2**3 is evaluated as 2**(2**3) = 2**8 = 256 In Excel, it works the other way around: 2^2^3 is evaluated as (2^2)^3 = 4^3 = 64 I now have to choose an implementation for my own parser. The Excel order is easier to implement, as it mirrors the evaluation order of multiplication. I asked some people around the office what their gut feel was for the evaluation of 2^2^3 and got mixed responses. • Stairway to T-SQL DML Level 8: Using the ROLLUP, CUBE and GROUPING SET operator in a GROUP BY Clause

    In this article I will be expanding on my discussion of the GROUP BY clause by exploring the ROLLUP, CUBE and GROUPING SETS operators. These additional GROUP BY operators make it is easy to have SQL Server create subtotals, grand totals, a superset of subtotals, as well as multiple aggregate groupings in a single SELECT statement. • When should I use String.Format or String.Concat instead of the concatenation operator?

    - by Kramii
    In C# it is possible to concatenate strings in several different ways: Using the concatenation operator: var newString = "The answer is '" + value + "'."; Using String.Format: var newString = String.Format("The answer is '{0}'.", value); Using String.Concat: var newString = String.Concat("The answer is '", value, "'."); What are the advantages / disadvantages of each of these methods? When should I prefer one over the others? The question arises because of a debate between developers. One never uses String.Format for concatenation - he argues that this is for formatting strings, not for concatenation, and that is is always unreadable because the items in the string are expressed in the wrong order. The other frequently uses String.Format for concatenation, because he thinks it makes the code easier to read, especially where there are several sets of quotes involved. Both these developers also use the concatenation operator and String.Builder, too.

  • Move constructor and assignment operator: why no default for derived classes?

    - by doublep
    Why there is default move constructor or assignment operator not created for derived classes? To demonstrate what I mean; having this setup code: #include <utility> struct A { A () { } A (A&&) { throw 0; } A& operator= (A&&) { throw 0; } }; struct B : A { }; either of the following lines throws: A x (std::move (A ()); A x; x = A (); but neither of the following does: B x (std::move (B ()); B x; x = B (); In case it matters, I tested with GCC 4.4.

  • How do I change a child's parent in NHibernate when cascade is delete-all-orphan?

    - by Daniel T.
    I have two entities in a bi-directional one-to-many relationship: public class Storage { public IList<Box> Boxes { get; set; } } public class Box { public Storage CurrentStorage { get; set; } } And the mapping: <class name="Storage"> <bag name="Boxes" cascade="all-delete-orphan" inverse="true"> <key column="Storage_Id" /> <one-to-many class="Box" /> </bag> </class> <class name="Box"> <many-to-one name="CurrentStorage" column="Storage_Id" /> </class> A Storage can have many Boxes, but a Box can only belong to one Storage. I have them mapped so that the one-to-many has a cascade of all-delete-orphan. My problem arises when I try to change a Box's Storage. Assuming I already ran this code: var storage1 = new Storage(); var storage2 = new Storage(); storage1.Boxes.Add(new Box()); Session.Create(storage1); Session.Create(storage2); The following code will give me an exception: // get the first and only box in the DB var existingBox = Database.GetBox().First(); // remove the box from storage1 existingBox.CurrentStorage.Boxes.Remove(existingBox); // add the box to storage2 after it's been removed from storage1 var storage2 = Database.GetStorage().Second(); storage2.Boxes.Add(existingBox); Session.Flush(); // commit changes to DB I get the following exception: NHibernate.ObjectDeletedException : deleted object would be re-saved by cascade (remove deleted object from associations) This exception occurs because I have the cascade set to all-delete-orphan. The first Storage detected that I removed the Box from its collection and marks it for deletion. However, when I added it to the second Storage (in the same session), it attempts to save the box again and the ObjectDeletedException is thrown. My question is, how do I get the Box to change its parent Storage without encountering this exception? I know one possible solution is to change the cascade to just all, but then I lose the ability to have NHibernate automatically delete a Box by simply removing it from a Storage and not re-associating it with another one. Or is this the only way to do it and I have to manually call Session.Delete on the box in order to remove it?

  • In Ruby, can the coerce() method know what operator it is that requires the help to coerce?

    - by Jian Lin
    In Ruby, it seems that a lot of coerce() help can be done by def coerce(something) [self, something] end that's is, when 3 + rational is needed, Fixnum 3 doesn't know how to handle adding a Rational, so it asks Rational#coerce for help by calling rational.coerce(3), and this coerce instance method will tell the caller: # I know how to handle rational + something, so I will return you the following: [self, something] # so that now you can invoke + on me, and I will deal with Fixnum to get an answer So what if most operators can use this method, but not when it is (a - b) != (b - a) situation? Can coerce() know which operator it is, and just handle those special cases, while just using the simple [self, something] to handle all the other cases where (a op b) == (b op a) ? (op is the operator).

  • Why aren't operator conversions implicitly called for templated functions? (C++)

    - by John Gordon
    I have the following code: template <class T> struct pointer { operator pointer<const T>() const; }; void f(pointer<const float>); template <typename U> void tf(pointer<const float>); void g() { pointer<float> ptr; f(ptr); tf(ptr); } When I compile the code with gcc 4.3.3 I get a message (aaa.cc:17: error: no matching function for call to ‘tf(pointer<float>&)’) indicating that the compiler called 'operator pointer<const T>' for the non-templated function f(), but didn't for the templated function tf(). Why and is there any workaround short of overloading tf() with a const and non-const version? Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Where would I use a bitwise operator in JavaScript?

    - by J-P
    I've read this (http://stackoverflow.com/quest...), so I know what bitwise operators are but I'm still not clear on how one might use them... Can anyone offer any real-world examples of where a bitwise operator would be useful in JavaScript? Thanks. Edit: Just digging into the jQuery source I've found a couple of places where bitwise operators are used, for example: (only the & operator) // Line 2756: event.which = (event.button & 1 ? 1 : ( event.button & 2 ? 3 : ( event.button & 4 ? 2 : 0 ) )); // Line 2101 var ret = a.compareDocumentPosition(b) & 4 ? -1 : a === b ? 0 : 1;

  • Is it possible to pass arithmetic operators to a method in java?

    - by drJames
    Right now I'm going to have to write a method that looks like this: public String Calculate(String Operator, Double Operand1, Double Operand2) { if (Operator.equals("+")) { return String.valueOf(Operand1 + Operand2); } else if (Operator.equals("-")) { return String.valueOf(Operand1 - Operand2); } else if (Operator.equals("*")) { return String.valueOf(Operand1 * Operand2); } else { return "error..."; } } It would be nice if I could write the code more like this: public String Calculate(String Operator, Double Operand1, Double Operand2) { return String.valueOf(Operand1 Operator Operand2); } So Operator would replace the Arithmetic Operators (+, -, *, /...) Does anyone know if something like this is possible in java?
