• How do I get security updates for restricted/partner packages?

  I want to perform just security updates on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, keeping the rest of the system unchanged. I need to do this from the command line, no the GUI update manager. I have implemented the solution described here, which seems to work great for this purpose. I merely substituted 'precise' for 'lucid' given that I am on 12.04. My question is: by using apt pinning as described in that answer, will I still receive security updates for packages distributed through the "other" repositories - partner, restricted, multiverse, etc? Or will it only get me updates for the packages in the "core" distribution? thanks! ~l

• Google Webmasters tools crawl error

  I am looking in to Google Webmaster Tools - Crawl Error section. How should I handle for those URL due their system / application showed invalid URL. e.g http://www.example/images/products/s_=enlarge_16gb.jpg but, I dunno what happen to yahoo groups, it break the link into http://www.example/images/products/s_= enlarge_16gb.jpg and I only make the top part become hyperlink, which is http://www.example/images/products/s_= Because of the URL, Google show crawl error, I got few error because of this kind of result or because other people typo error. How do I prevent this. I am sure I don't have the right go and change other people post. What is the solution for this. Thanks!

• Why opening Ubuntu's default wallpaper (warty-final-ubuntu.png) in Image Viewer always fails?

  Everytime I try to open Ubuntu (any version, since from 8.04 with which I started) default wallpaper, named "warty-final-ubuntu.png", I get the following error. I have also reported bug for the same, more than a year ago but it is still unresolved. Also I don't get the point why the default wallpaper is still named as "warty-final-ubuntu.png" instead of having actual code name prefix to which wallpaper belongs eg. "precise-final-ubuntu.png" and so on. General Thoughts Lots of community effort goes under development of this marvelous distribution but we're still missing out to fix such silly issues, which is directly/indirectly affecting the number of new adopters.

• Why are a seemingly disproportionate amount of programmers just, well, not nice?

  Maybe it's just my personal experience, but I associate with varying different groups and types of people and it seems to me that an oddly large percentage of programmers I have encountered are "not nice" or for an attempt at a better definition: Condescending Snarky Negative in the way they talk about people If you have noticed the same thing, any theories as to why? Any suggestions on how to politely or not so politely let one of these programmers know how they are acting and suggest they correct it if they want to be perceived as professional one would want to work with? Or perhaps I've just come across a bad sample and there are bad seeds in every group of people one can name.

• Tutorial (or livedisk) for multiseat setup with dual-head display supporting openGL direct rendering?

  I'm currently running Ubuntu 10.10 (64 bit), the GPU is an ATI Radeon HD 4290 onboard a ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 mainboard. The Ubuntu wiki doesn't cover 10.10 yet and I also don't know if that method would support direct rendering. I heard mentions of xephyr and xgl, what are the differences? Where should I start? I tried the mdm livedisk but that doesn't boot. I'm also willing to try a different distribution if necessary. Edit: 1 Will the HowTo: A well performing, full eye-candy, accelerated pseudo-multiseat setup on a single dualhead GPU. for Ubuntu 9.04 still work? I'm afraid it omits how to setup two input devices and sound however... Edit: 2 http://multiseatonlinux.blogspot.com/2010/06/part-1-setting-up-base.html covers 10.10 but requires pinning gdm. Is that circumvenatable? Also how does that setup have to be modified for dual-head?

I have header file "myClass.h" with: class myClass { public: // methods for counting ... // methods for other ... }; I would like to define "methods for counting" in one CPP and "methods for other" in other CPP. But I have another Ubuntu based distribution on my laptop (BackTrack linux), which is also 10.04, but it has the b43 driver installed and the overall performance is MUCH better. So I would like to install it on this OS too, but even google didn't help me. So my question is how to install the latest b43 driver on my Ubuntu?

• Allowing users to create an email address

  I am creating a website and would like to allow users to create their own email forward. Basically, the site will allow groups to create pages on the site, each of which will be able to have its own domain name. I would like users to be able to automatically create an email address on the site that will forward any incoming emails to their own email account. Right now I have to manually set these up in my hosting account control panel but I'm hoping there is a way to do this automatically. Does anyone have experience with doing something similar?

  I am trying to setup Appgate Ip tunneling driver on my ubuntu 12.04 by following appgate instructions listed below: Installation, Linux Make sure the kernel has support for the Universal TUN/TAP device driver, and then log in as root and create a new directory somewhere, and copy the files ag_iptd add_route add_gw_route add_hosts_entry ag_iptd clean_hosts_file del_route del_gw_route del_hosts_entry interface_down interface_up remove_dns_server set_dns_server fix_localhost into that directory. Then start the IPTD daemon by doing modprobe tun <directory-somewhere>/ag_iptd There is also an init script 'ag_iptd.init' that can be installed to automatically start the IPTD daemon every time the OS is loaded.Please check the documentation of your Linux distribution on howto do this. so is there any way to checkif my ubuntu 12.04 kernel has support for the Universal TUN/TAP device driver? and how to do so? • Actions and Controllers managing strategy in MVC apps

  Can anyone name any usefull strategy/architectural pattern for allocating actions between different controllers when using MVC pattern for developing web application? I am now developing web app using asp.net Mvc3 framework and still can't figure out how to manage actions and controllers. One approach is to create single action controller for each url, but it's not the best choice since to much controllers have to be created. Should I list all available urls that are supported by me web app, devide them into groups and create separate controller for each group or act in any different manner? It seems like I will become face to face with some kind of mess with no consistent approach in managing actions and controllers.
