Enterprise JavaBeans 3.2 (JSR 345) - Early Draft (list, project, javadocs ?) Context & Dependency Injection 1.1 (JSR 346) - Early Draft (list, project, javadocs) Bean Validation 1.1 (JSR 349) - Public Review (list, project, javadocs ?) • Recordset Paging works in IIS6 but not in IIIS7

  Hi there, I've got a recordset/paging set up - works fine in IIS6 but when I run the site on an IIS7 server I get the following error: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005' [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. /orders.asp, line 197 the code looks like this: Set objPagingConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") objPagingConn.Open CONN_STRING Set objPagingRS = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") objPagingRS.PageSize = iPageSize objPagingRS.CacheSize = iPageSize objPagingRS.Open strSQL, objPagingConn, adOpenStatic, adLockReadOnly, adCmdText iPageCount = objPagingRS.PageCount iRecordCount = objPagingRS.RecordCount Line 197 is the objPagingConn,Open ... line. • How to use jQuery .each() - I get a value, but it's the wrong one

  I am returning a JSON object (as a String) through a servlet. The JSON object looks like this: {"3":"Martin Luther","30":"Boris Becker","32":"Joseph Goebels","19":"Leonardo Da Vinci","31":"Adolf Hitler"} My jQuery looks like this (the submission of data is correct because I get a proper looking result from the servlet): $.ajax( { type : "GET", url : "MyServlet", data : queryString + "count=" + variables, success : function(resultObj) { $.each(resultObj, function(key, value) { $("#resultCount").html(key+", "+value); }); } }); However when I try to print the results, that is the variables key and value, I get a number for the key but not a number from the JSONObject and an empty string instead of the value. Essentially the question is about how to "extract" the information from a JSON object.

  Recently, when I tried to explain why Ruby is a DSL to an intern at my organisation, I was not able to articulate my reasonings to the effect I would like to. Maybe I do not understand the space well enough to teach the nuances. Redirecting him to Martin Fowler' article or the google ranked one InfoQ or other material has not helped much either. Can some explain why Ruby is a DSL with an example / parallel situation which is not voodoo stuff for someone who is fairly new to the world of code? Understanding the ideology might also help in elaborating the intricacies of the rails ecosystem?

• Declarative authorization and the if_attribute not working...

  I've been having almost the same issues as Victor Martin (you can see the questions asked here). I've got declarative authorization working for just about everything that doesn't involve using conditionals. E.g. has_permission_on :users, :to => [:edit, :update, :destroy] do if_attribute :user => is { current_user } end Are there any common pitfalls with Declarative Authorization? I'm using authlogic and I'm suspicious the 'current_user' method in the application controller might be the source of the problem.

• Capture Backspace , is this a OK solution?

  Hello, I having a hard time to capture the backspace button in a UITextView. I am trying to capture it in the method - (BOOL)textView:(UITextView *)textView shouldChangeTextInRange:(NSRange)range replacementText:(NSString *)text I thought it was ok to do like this. if([text isEqualToString:@"\b") { // code ... } But for some reason, when backspace is pressed 'text' is empty. I know I can compare lenght of the UITextView but it isnt what I want to achieve. So I found a solution to this. If I look at '[text lenght]' every key on the defaultkeyboard returns 0 . Every key excepts the backspace wich is 0. In that way i know when backspace is pressed. I do this check. if([text lenght] == 0) { // BACKSPACE PRESSED   } What is your opinion about this? -or can I do it in a better way? Regards. - Martin

• Branch by abstraction: Are there "examples" of how it can be done?

  Having read Martin Fowlers "Feature Branch" and Flickrs "Flipping Out" (http://www.liip.to/flippingout) I guess there are a few guys out there who do: all (or most) development on Trunk release Trunk regularly (assuming updating your web site) not-yet-approved or not-yet-finished features should not be visible/have no impact on the regular user I've got 2 questions: granted - Flickr's article seems to work for "frontend code". But how is it cleaned up? Don't the ifs pile up? how does this work for the more "backend part"? Thinking of database changes, or model refactoring. Working with ifs doesn't seem to work - and copy-pasting classes for small adaptions also seems awkward. Are there any articles out there answering these 2 questions?

• Using Exception Handler in an ADF Task Flow

  Problem Statement: Exception thrown in a task flow gets wrapped in an exception that gives an unintelligible error message to the user. Figure 1 Solution 1. Over-writing the error message with a user-friendly error message. Figure 2 Steps to code 1. Generating an exception: Write a method that throws an exception and drop it in the task flow.2. Adding an Exception Handler: Write a method (example below) to overwrite the Error in the bean or data control and drop the method in the task flow. Figure 3 This method is marked as the Exception Handler by Right-Click on method > Mark Activity> Exception Handler or by the button that is displayed in this screenshot Figure 4 The Final task flow should look like this. This will overwrite the exception with the error message in figure 2. Note: There is no need for a control flow between the two method calls (as shown below). Figure 5 Solution 2: Re-Routing the task flow to display an error page Figure 6 Steps to code 1. This is the same as step 1 of solution 1.2. Adding an Exception Handler: The Exception handler is not always a method; in this case it is implemented on a task flow return.  The task flow looks like this. Figure 7 In the figure below you will notice that the task flow return points to a control flow ‘error’ in the calling task flow. • Java EE 7 JSR Submitted

  Java EE 7 has been filed as JSR 342 in the JCP program. This JSR (Java Specification Request) will develop Java EE 7, the next version of the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition. It is an "umbrella JSR" because the specification includes a collection of several other JSRs. The proposal suggests the addition of two new JSRs: Concurrency Utilities for Java EE (JSR-236) and JCache (JSR-107) as well as updates to JPA, JAX-RS, JSF, Servlets, EJB, JSP, EL, JMS, JAX-WS, CDI, Bean Validation, JSR-330, JSR-250, and Java Connector Architecture. There are also two new APIs under discussion: a Java Web Sockets API and a Java JSON API. These are the new JSRs that are currently up for ballot:• JSR 342: Java Platform, Enterprise Edition 7 Specification• JSR 340: Java Servlet 3.1 Specification• JSR 341: Expression Language 3.0• JSR 343: Java Message Service 2.0• JSR 344: JavaServer Faces 2.2All 5 JSRs are now up for Executive Committee voting with ballots closing on 14 March, and slated for inclusion in Java EE  7.  All of these JSRs are also open for Expert Group nominations. Any JCP member can nominate themself to serve on the Expert Groups for these JSRs. Details on how to become a JCP member are on jcp.org. The JCP gives you a chance to have your own work become an official component of the Java platform and to offer suggestions for improving and growing the technology. • JSR Updates - Multiple JSRs migrate to latest JCP version

  As part of the JCP.Next reform effort, many JSRs have migrated to the latest version of the JCP program in the last month.  These JSRs' Spec Leads and Expert Groups are contributing to the strides the JCP has been making to enable greater community transparency, participation and agility to the working of the JSR development through the JCP program. Any other JSR Spec Leads interested in migrating to the latest JCP version, now JCP 2.9, as of 13 November, incorporating the Merged Executive Committee (EC), see the Spec Lead Guide for instructions on migrating to the latest JCP version.  For JCP 2.8 JSRs, you are effectively already operating under JCP 2.9 since there are no longer two ECs.  This is the difference for JCP 2.8 JSRs migrating to JCP 2.9 -- a merged EC.  To make the migration official, just inform your Expert Group on a public channel and email your request to admin at jcp.org. • Postgres: clear entire database before re-creating / re-populating from bash script

  hi folks, I'm writing a shell script (will become a cronjob) that will: 1: dump my production database 2: import the dump into my development database Between step 1 and 2, I need to clear the development database (drop all tables?). How is this best accomplished from a shell script? So far, it looks like this: #!/bin/bash time=`date '+%Y'-'%m'-'%d'` # 1. export(dump) the current production database pg_dump -U production_db_name > /backup/dir/backup-${time}.sql # missing step: drop all tables from development database so it can be re-populated # 2. load the backup into the development database psql -U development_db_name < backup/dir/backup-${time}.sql Many thanks in advance! • Execute Oracle RAC cluster commands via Solaris RBAC?

  Executing Oracle RAC cluster management commands such as $ORA_CRS_HOME/bin/crs_start requires root permissions. Using Solaris RBAC (Role-Based Access Control), one can give a non-root user permissions to execute those commands, but the commands still fail internally.   Hello, I have a set of Books objects, classs Book is defined as following : Class Book{ String title; ArrayList<tags> taglist; } Where title is the title of the book, example : Javascript for dummies. and taglist is a list of tags for our example : Javascript, jquery, "web dev", .. As I said a have a set of books talking about different things : IT, BIOLOGY, HISTORY, ... Each book has a title and a set of tags describing it.. I have to classify automaticaly those books into separated sets by topic, example : IT BOOKS : Java for dummies Javascript for dummies Learn flash in 30 days C++ programming HISTORY BOOKS : World wars America in 1960 Martin luther king's life BIOLOGY BOOKS : .... Do you guys know a classification algorithm/method to apply for that kind of problems ? A solution is to use an external API to define the category of the text, but the problem here is that books are in different languages : french, spanish, english ..

• Should I practice "mockist" or "classical" TDD?

  I've read (and re-read) Martin Fowler's Mocks Aren't Stubs. In it, he defines two different approaches to TDD: "Classical" and "Mockist". He attempts to answer the question "So should I be a classicist or a mockist?", but he admits that he has never tried mockist TDD on "anything more than toys." So I thought I'd ask the question here. Good answers may repeat Fowler's arguments (but hopefully more clearly) or add arguments that he didn't think of or that others have come up with since Fowler last updated the essay back in January 2007.

• Can someone describe some DI terms to me?

  I'm in the process of writing a DI framework for PHP 5, and I've been trying to find the 'official' definitions of some words in relation to dependency injection. Some of these words are 'context' and 'lifecycle'. And also, what would I call the object that gets created/injected? Finally, what is the difference between components and services, and which term (if either) should I call the objects that can be injected? I've read Martin Fowler's article and looked through other DI frameworks (Phemto, Spring, Google Guice, Xyster, etc.), but I want to know what you think. Thanks!
