  I am an old school java developer who is considering a using wordpress. I'm used to developing locally on my PC (yeah yeah not even a mac) and then ftping my files up to a production environment on a remote server. My high level review of wordpress gives me the impression that typically there is no concept of lower environments and that all updates occur directly in production. Is this the case? If not, can someone explain how one goes about uploading the files to a web site? Thanks, Jeff

  I'm usin the OpenPrinter function and the first parameter the function gets called "pPrinterName" and that's it's MSDN description: [in] Pointer to a null-terminated string that specifies the name of the printer or print server, the printer object, the XcvMonitor, or the XcvPort. For a printer object use: PrinterName,Job xxxx. For an XcvMonitor, use: ServerName,XcvMonitor MonitorName. For an XcvPort, use: ServerName,XcvPort PortName. Obviously I'm interested in the bold part. What exactly is XcvPort? I know it seems like a question of lazy person but I really couldn't find info abou this concept. If I would like to open a printer on port ABC I should write: "\\MySrever,XcvPort ABC"? Thank you for your answers!

Then in the site the last updated value will be shown as image. I done with the pure PHP.   Hi, I’m currently trying to develop a method to get a overview of all my different web templates I’ve created and (legally) downloaded over the years. I thought about a displaying them like Wordpress is previewing it’s templates view a small preview windows, displaying the concrete file with styles and everything. How to divide them into rows and columns and create AJAX modal window open on preview and pagination and so on I believe I can manage, but it is the concept itself about iterate over several folders then find all index.htm / index.html pages and displaying them. I’ve not worked very much with directories in PHP and the only references and code stumps I’ve found so far is just to list all the files in a certain directory like, what it contains. I would be really grateful if someone knew about a script, a function, snippet or just could get me a nudge in the right direction to create such a (probably simple) preview function.   I am developing a general database query tools, a .Net 3.5 Windows Form application. In order to make the presentation layer is independent of the database layer. I use an ORM framework, XPO from DevExpress. But, I have no access control function built in. I surfed Internet and I found in WCF Data Services, there is an interesting concept, Interceptor, which is following AOP(Aspect Oriented Programming). I am wondering who has such an experience to build access control in ORM. My basic requirement is : It should be a general method and controlled by users in runtime. So any hard coding is not acceptable. It could be based on attribute, database table, or even an external assembly. I am willing to buy a ready solution. According to the idea of AOP, an access control function can be integrated with existing functions easily and nearly not knowingly to the previous developer;) Any suggestions are welcome.

• Searching Natural Language Sentence Structure

  What's the best way to store and search a database of natural language sentence structure trees? Using OpenNLP's English Treebank Parser, I can get fairly reliable sentence structure parsings for arbitrary sentences. What I'd like to do is create a tool that can extract all the doc strings from my source code, generate these trees for all sentences in the doc strings, store these trees and their associated function name in a database, and then allow a user to search the database using natural language queries. So, given the sentence "This uploads files to a remote machine." for the function upload_files(), I'd have the tree: (TOP (S (NP (DT This)) (VP (VBZ uploads) (NP (NNS files)) (PP (TO to) (NP (DT a) (JJ remote) (NN machine)))) (. .))) If someone entered the query "How can I upload files?", equating to the tree: (TOP (SBARQ (WHADVP (WRB How)) (SQ (MD can) (NP (PRP I)) (VP (VB upload) (NP (NNS files)))) (. ?))) how would I store and query these trees in a SQL database? I've written a simple proof-of-concept script that can perform this search using a mix of regular expressions and network graph parsing, but I'm not sure how I'd implement this in a scalable way. And yes, I realize my example would be trivial to retrieve using a simple keyword search. The idea I'm trying to test is how I might take advantage of grammatical structure, so I can weed-out entries with similar keywords, but a different sentence structure. For example, with the above query, I wouldn't want to retrieve the entry associated with the sentence "Checks a remote machine to find a user that uploads files." which has similar keywords, but is obviously describing a completely different behavior.

  Hi, Today I faced one question in interview. Is it possible to apply inheritance concept on Singleton Classes. I said since the constructor is private, we cannot extend that Singleton class (can someone please validate this). Next thing he asked me is to apply inheritance on that Singleton class. So, I made the Singleton's constructor as protected thinking that child's constructor also has be protected. But I was wrong the child can have a modifier either equal to or higher than that. So, I asked him to give a real world example on such a case. He was not able to give me one and said that I cant ask questions and wanted me to tell whether this scenario is possible or not. I went kind of blank. My question here is, Is this possible? Even if its possible, what is the use of it? What real world scenario would demand such a use. Thanks

• Passing extended parameter into Sql 2008 connection string

  Hi, I have a need to support extensive auditing capabilities for a system backing into Sql Server 2008. Since I plan to use LINQ (with no Stored Procs), the database would be a clean, zero contact data repository. However, I need to pratically record a snapshot of every change that happens in the db. So, I thought I should use triggers. But then, I need a user id for the particular user (not the connection string user id) to flow through into the database. In oracle, I should have been able to set up a PROXY USER and the trigger would be able to pick that up. Last I checked, there was no proxy user concept in Sql Server. Does anyone know if there's any extender property I can use to flow through my authenticated user name? ps: I don't mind the impact on connection pooling (if any). Thanks. P

• Standard documentation of Visual Studio commands?

  Visual Studio has a concept of commands, i.e. actions executable by pressing a shortcut, entering them on the Command Window etc. Visual Studio itself documents its commands (at least some of them) but I was wondering if there is a unified way to get information about any command, e.g. coming from ReSharper, TestDriven.NET etc. What I'd like to see for every command: Textual description of the command List of parameters and their types/allowed values I've never developed a VS addon / extension so am not sure if this question even makes sense but from the user perspective, some documentation would be greatly appreciated. BTW, is the Command Window the best place to get at least an overview of all the commands available? ToolsOptionsKeyboard is another place where I can see shortcuts also but the UI is not very convenient...

• Methodologies or algorithms for filling in missing data

  I am dealing with datasets with missing data and need to be able to fill forward, backward, and gaps. So, for example, if I have data from Jan 1, 2000 to Dec 31, 2010, and some days are missing, when a user requests a timespan that begins before, ends after, or encompasses the missing data points, I need to "fill in" these missing values. Is there a proper term to refer to this concept of filling in data? Imputation is one term, don't know if it is "the" term for it though. I presume there are multiple algorithms & methodologies for filling in missing data (use last measured, using median/average/moving average, etc between 2 known numbers, etc. Anyone know the proper term for this problem, any online resources on this topic, or ideally links to open source implementations of some algorithms (C# preferably, but any language would be useful)

  Hi guys, I'd like to create a website with similar concept as 'Hot or Not' where users need to sign up to the website and then upload photos. Each photo can be given a description and some additional fields. Other users may comment and rate the photo entries. On top of that, users may favourite/bookmark (and remove) any photo entries and they're accessible via their profile page That's generally how the website will be. Can't decide on a CMS to use Somehow I'm at a crossroad here. I've done some research and found that Joomla has an extension that is able to pull this website off but the thing is I'm not that comfortable with using Joomla. I work with WordPress most of the time, but I can't seem to figure out how would I build this website with WordPress. Would using BuddyPress make it work? Would hiring a plugin developer to customize some plugins work? What do you guys think?

• Identifying all types with some attribute

  Hello SO; I have an issue with .Net reflection. The concept is fairly new to me and I'm exploring it with some test cases to see what works and what doesn't. I'm constructing an example wherein I populate a set of menus dynamically by scanning through my Types' attributes. Basically, I want to find every type in my main namespace that declares 'SomeAttribute' (doesn't matter what it is, it doesn't have any members at present). What I've done is: For Each itemtype As Type In Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetTypes If itemtype.IsDefined(Type.GetType("SomeAttribute"), False) Then 'do something with the type End If Next This crashes the application on startup - the first type it identifies is MyApplication which is fairly obviously not what I want. Is there a right and proper way to look for all the 'real' 'sensible' types - i.e. classes that I've defined - within the current assembly?

The first one works as expected and print "Hi". the second one gives me error that "block following this let is unfinished" 1st version #light let samplefn() = let z = 2 let z = z * 2 printfn "hi" samplefn() 2nd version #light let samplefn() = let z = 2 let z = z * 2 samplefn() Only difference is the printfn is absent in the second version. I am using Visual Studio 2010 as my IDE. I am very new to F# but this error seems very strange to me. I guess I am missing some very important concept. Please explain. • Deploy to web container, bundle web container or embed web container...

  I am developing an application that needs to be as simple as possible to install for the end user. While the end users will likely be experience Linux users (or sales engineers), they don't really know anything about Tomcat, Jetty, etc, nor do I think they should. So I see 3 ways to deploy our applications. I should also state that this is the first app that I have had to deploy that had a web interface, so I haven't really faced this question before. First is to deploy the application into an existing web container. Since we only deploy to Suse or RedHat this seems easy enough to do. However, we're not big on the idea of multiple apps running in one web container. It makes it harder to take down just one app. The next option is to just bundle Tomcat or Jetty and have the startup/shutdown scripts launch our bundled web container. Or 3rd, embed.. This will probably provide the same user experience as the second option. I'm curious what others do when faced with this problem to make it as fool proof as possible on the end user. I've almost ruled out deploying into an existing web container as we often like to set per application resource limits and CPU affinity, which I believe would affect all apps deployed into a web container/app server and not just a specific application.   I'm looking in to Magento's filtering options (Ecommerce System and PHP Framekwork with an expansive ORM system). Specifically the addFieldToFilter method. In this method, you specify a SQLish filter by passing in a single element array, with the key indicating the type of filter. For example, array('eq'=>'bar') //eq means equal array('neq'=>'bar') //neq means not equal would each give you a where clause that looks like where field = 'bar'; where field != 'bar'; So, deep in the bowels of the source, I found a comparison type named 'moreq' that maps to a = comparison operator array('moreq'=>'27') where field >= 27 The weird thing is, there's already a 'gteq' comparision type array('gteq'=>'27') where field >= 27 So, my question is, what does moreq stand for? Is is some special SQL concept that's supported in other databases that the Magento guys wants to map to MySQL, or is it just "more required" and an example what happens when you're doing rapid agile and trying to maintain backwards compatibility.

  Recently I came across the SkipList data structure. It really helped me to solve one otherwise critical problem to be solved. I was struggling to solve the same problem with Balanced Binary tree but it became very complex as the tree needs to be always balanced and I wanted to know the existence of not only a particular value but values in certain range. SkipList helped me to solve that problem effectively. I am wondering what else data structures that I need to know? I know - Array, List, Stack, Queue, Linked List, hashtable, tree and its different forms like B-tree, Trie etc. Would like to know if you find some other data structure/concept very interesting to know yet effective enough to be used in a daily development cycle.

  I need to create a many-to-many relationship in Grails. I have a "Question" domain and a "Tag" domain. A Question can have 0 or more tags. A Tag can have 0 or more Questions. If I put a "hasMany" on each sides, it gives me an error saying I need a "belongTo" somewhere. However, adding a belongsTo means that the owner must exist... Like I said, a Tag could have 0 questions, and a Question could have 0 tags. There is no concept of an owner, it's a many-to-many! What am I supposed to do?

  In GNU make, trailing comments appended to variable assignments prevent subsequent comparison (via ifeq) from working correctly. Here's the Makefile... A = a B = b ## trailing comment C = c RESULT := ifeq "$(A)" "a" RESULT += a endif ifeq "$(B)" "b" RESULT += b endif ifeq "$(C)" "c" RESULT += c endif rule: @echo RESULT=\"$(RESULT)\" @echo A=\"$(A)\" @echo B=\"$(B)\" @echo C=\"$(C)\" Here's the output... $ make RESULT=" a c" A="a" B="b " C="c" As you can see from the displayed value of RESULT, the ifeq was affected by the presence of the comment in the assignment of B. Echoing the variable B, shows that the problem is not the comment, but the intervening space. The obvious solution is to explicitly strip the whitespace prior to comparison like so... ifeq "$(strip $(B))" "b" RESULT += b endif However this seems error prone. Since the strip operation is not needed unless/until a comment is used, you can leave out the strip and everything will initially work just fine -- so chances are you won't always remember to add the strip. Later, if someone adds a comment when setting the variable, the Makefile no longer works as expected. Note: There is a closely related issue, as demonstrated in this question, that trailing whitespace can break string compares even if there is no comment. Question: Is there a more fool-proof way to deal with this issue?

  Hi, I'm using Python on Appengine and am looking up the geolocation of an IP address like this: import pygeoip gi = pygeoip.GeoIP('GeoIP.dat') Location = gi.country_code_by_addr(self.request.remote_addr) (pygeoip can be found here: http://code.google.com/p/pygeoip/) I want to geolocate each page of my app for a user so currently I lookup the IP address once then store it in memcache. My question - which is quicker? Looking up the IP address each time from the .dat file or fetching it from memcache? Are there any other pros/cons I need to be aware of? For general queries like this, is there a good guide to teach me how to optimise my code and run speed tests myself? I'm new to python and coding in general so apologies if this is a basic concept.
