  We are using ankhsvn to check in our .net code, however I have two issues with our setup that I want to resolve. 1\ I thought a key reason to have a tool like svn is that you can rollback to an earlier version of your codebase. If developers are just checking in code, then how can you get version 1.1 (say the current production build), out of subversion? 2\ In VS you have the concept of solutions, many solutions might use the same project. How do I make sure when a developer checks out a solution, they get the appropriate versions of the projects that belong to that solution?

  Hi, I'm kind of new to the Magento, so forgive me for my stupid question! As I understand the whole concept of Magento is base on overriding the basic components that's are available with in the Magento. So based on my understanding I've decided to update the layout of onepage checkout in Magento. I've created my own layout and in the config file set that my layout updates the checkout module layout. But the problem is it's actually does not update the base layout, it replaces it self with base layout! Should it be act like this or am I wrong?!

• Painting to Form then to Printer

  I often find myself needing to create custom reports that do NOT work with Crystal Reports or Report Viewer. Often, I hack a DataTable together and dumping that into a DataGridView control. It is never pretty, and printing is difficult. What I need is a class that I can call using the OnPaint event, but I've never sat down and written all of the Pen and Brush commands until now. Painting to the screen and painting to a printer both use the Graphics object, so I want to build a class that I'd pass in the Graphics object, my window bounds (a Rectangle), and some data (in the form of an instance of my class) that I'd use to paint a form or a sheet of paper. That sounds like a great concept! Surely, someone has done something like this before. Does anyone know of a book, a website tutorial, or video that goes into this? If someone wants to write all that out for me here, more power to you - but I'd think that would be too much work.

  Hi all. I'm modifying an existing Lotus view to include a field from another form. I first appended a new column and set it to the desired field. However, after I refreshed, the new column was blank even though I know it has data. I then updated the View Selection formula from: SELECT Form = "A" & StatusIndex < "06" to: SELECT (Form = "A"| Form = "B") & StatusIndex < "06" Still no luck. The view is refreshing successfully, but the new field is still blank. What else is there to add this new column to this view? This is my first time experimenting with Lotus, so if I seem to be missing some major concept, I probably am.

• How to use Data aware controls "correctly"?

  Hi, I would like to ask experienced users, if you prefer to use data aware controls to add, insert, delete and edit data in DB or you favor to do it manualy. I developed some DB applications, in which for the sake of "user friendly policy" I run into complicated web of table events (afterinsert, afteredit, after... and beforeedit, beforeinsert, before...). After that it was a quite nasty work to debug the application. Aware of this risk (later by another application) I tried to avoid this problem, so I paid increased attention to write code well, readable and comprehensive. It seemed everything all right from the beginning, but as I needed to handle some preprocessing stuff before sending and loading data etc, I run into the same problems again, "slowly and inevitably". Sometime I could not use dataaware controls anyway, and what seemed to be a "cool" feature of DAControl at the beginning it turned to an obstacle on the end. I "had to" write special routine for non-dataaware controls, in order to behave as dataaware. Then I asked myself, why on earth should I use dataaware controls? Is it better to found application architecture on non-dataaware controls? It requires more time to write bug-proof code, of course, but does it worth of it? I do not know... I happened to me several times, like jinxed : paradise on the beginning hell on the end... I do not know, if I use wrong method to write DB program, if there is some standard common practice how to proceed. Or if it is common problem to everybody? Thanx for advices and your experiences

  Does anyone know how to databind the .Source property of the WebBrowser in WPF ( 3.5SP1 )? I have a listview that I want to have a small WebBrowser on the left, and content on the right, and to databind the source of each WebBrowser with the URI in each object bound to the list item. • Looks like COM object is created, but JScript fails to get a reference

  I'm using the following code to create a COM component that I have developed and registered. var mycom = new ActiveXObject("Mirabilis.ComponentServices.1"); mycom.SetFirstNumber(5); mycom.SetSecondNumber(3); The first line runs fine, while if I alter the ProgID (that is, the string passed to ActiveXObject) I get the message Automation server can't create object. This suggests that at least the basics of the registration mechanism are working properly. I integrated some logging calls into the DLL. When I run the script I get the proof into the log file that both this call to QueryInterface: STDAPI DllGetClassObject( const CLSID &clsid, const IID &iid, void **ppv) { ... CAddFactory *pAddFact = new CAddFactory; ... What I want to do is simple as a concept, but has presented me with a small challenge when trying to minimize the amount of database queries I'm performing. Let's say I have a table of departments. Within each department is a list of employees. What is the most efficient way of listing all the departments and which employees are in each department. So for example if I have a department table with: id name 1 sales 2 marketing And a people table with: id department_id name 1 1 Tom 2 1 Bill 3 2 Jessica 4 1 Rachel 5 2 John What is the best way list all departments and all employees for each department like so: Sales Tom Bill Rachel Marketing Jessica John Pretend both tables are actually massive. (I want to avoid getting a list of departments, and then looping through the result and doing an individual query for each department). Think similarly of selecting the statuses/comments in a Facebook-like system, when statuses and comments are stored in separate tables.

  I am very new to Python, and trying to figure out how to create an object that has values that are accessible either by attribute name, or by index. For example, the way os.stat() returns a stat_result or pwd.getpwnam() returns a struct_passwd. In trying to figure it out, I've only come across C implementations of the above types. Nothing specifically in Python. What is the Python native way to create this kind of object? I apologize if this has been widely covered already. In searching for an answer, I must be missing some fundamental concept that is excluding me from finding an answer.

• How is Java Platform independent when it needs JVM to run ?

  Just started learning Java and I am confused about this whole independent platform thingy. Doesn't independent means that Java code should be able to run on any machine and would need no special software to be installed (JVM in this case has to be present in the machine)? Like, for example, we need to have Turbo C Compiler in order to compile C/C++ source code and then execute it.. The machine has to have the C compiler. guess I am confused..Somebody please explain in simple language or may be direct me to a tutorial that explain things in simple language ? that would be great I am just not getting the concept.

• Change the playback rate of a track in real time on Android

  Hello, I would like to know if somebody knows a library to changing the playback rate of a track in real time. My idea is to load a track and change its playback rate to half or double. Firstly, I tried with MusicPlayer but is was not possible at all and then I tried with SoundPool. The problem is that with SoundPool I can´t change the rate once the track is loaded. • What is wrong with the JavaScript event handling in this example? (Using click() and hover() jQuery

  I'm working on a sort of proof-of-concept for a project that approximates Firebug's inspector tool. For more details, please see this related question. Here is the example page. I've only tested it in Firefox: http://troy.onespot.com/static/highlight.html The idea is that, when you're mousing over any element that can contain text, it should "highlight" with a light gray background to indicate the boundaries of that element. When you then click on the element, it should alert() a CSS selector that matches it. This is somewhat working in the example linked above. However, there's one fundamental problem. When mousing over from the top of the page to the bottom, it will pick up the paragraphs, <h1> element, etc. But, it doesn't get the <div>s that encompass those paragraphs. However, for example, if you "sneak up" on the <div> that contains the two paragraphs "The area was settled..." and "Austin was selected..." from the left - tracing down the left edge of the page and entering the <div> just between the two paragraphs (see this screenshot) - then it is picked up. I assume this has something to do with the fact that I haven't attached an event handler to the <body> element (where you're entering the <div> from if you enter from the left), but I have attached handlers to the <p>s (where you're entering from if you come from the top or bottom). There are also other issues with mousing in and out elements - background colors that "stick" and the like - that I think are also related. As indicated in the related question posted above, I suspect there is something about event bubbling that I don't understand that is causing unexpected behavior. Can anyone spot what's wrong with my code? Thanks in advance for any help!

• Change color of a table cell using javascript using dropdown menu

  I'd like to use some javascript code to change the background color of a single cell within a table. I have some code below which allows me to change the page background color. This is similar in concept to what I would like to do, but I would really like to be able to change just one cell...not the whole page. I have thought about making the rest of the cell borders and background colors white, leaving the cell I want to manipulate transparent, but I think this probably a brute force method that will cause me trouble down the road. Does anyone have any advice to do this with javascript? • Where should I put code that is supposed to fire AFTER the view has loaded?

  I’m writing an objective-c program that does some calculations based on time and will eventually updates UILabels each second. To explain the concept here’s some simplified code, which I’ve placed into the viewDidLoad of the class that handles the view. (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // how do i make this stuff happen AFTER the view has loaded?? int a = 1; while (a < 10) { NSLog(@"doing something"); a = a + 1; sleep(1); } } My problem is that the code halts the loading of the view until the loop is all complete (in this case 10 seconds). Where should I put code that I want to fire AFTER the view has finished loading? newbie question I know =/

• How to reduce java concurrent mode failure and excessive gc

  In Java, the concurrent mode failure means that the concurrent collector failed to free up enough memory space form tenured and permanent gen and has to give up and let the full stop-the-world gc kicks in. The end result could be very expensive. I understand this concept but never had a good comprehensive understanding of A) what could cause a concurrent mode failure and B) what's the solution?. This sort of unclearness leads me to write/debug code without much of hints in mind and often has to shop around those performance flags from Foo to Bar without particular reasons, just have to try. I'd like to learn from developers here how your experience is. If you had previous encountered such performance issue, what was the cause and how you addressed it? If you have coding recommendations, please don't be too general. Thanks!

  Does anyone use Accurev for Source Control Management? We are switching (eventually) from StarTeam to Accurev. My initial impression is that the GUI tool is severely lacking, however the underlying engine, and the branches as streams concept is incredible. The biggest difficulty we are facing is assessing our own DIY tools that interfaced with starteam, and either replacing them with DIY new tools, or finding and purchasing appropriate replacements. Additionally, is anyone using the AccuWork component for Issue management? Starteam had a very nice change request system, and AccuWork does not come close to matching it. We are evaluating either using Accuwork, or buying a 3rd party package such as JIRA. Opinions?

  Hey guys, I have just been thinking about the concept of view model object we create in asp.net MVC. Our purpose is to instantiate it and pass it from controller to view and view read it and display the data. Those view model are usually instantiated through constructor. We won't need to initialize the members, we may not need to redefine/override parameterless constructor and we don't need inheritance feature there. So, why don't we use struct type for our view model instead of class. It will enhance the performance.

• Determining Long Tap (Long Press, Tap Hold) on Android with jQuery

  I've been able to successfully play with the touchstart, touchmove, and touchend events on Android using jQuery and an HTML page. Now I'm trying to see what the trick is to determine a long tap event, where one taps and holds for 3 seconds. I can't seem to figure this out yet. I'm wanting to this purely in jQuery without Sencha Touch, JQTouch, jQMobile, etc. I like the concept of jQTouch, although it doesn't provide me a whole lot and some of my code breaks with it. With Sencha Touch, I'm not a fan of moving away from jQuery into Ext.js and some new way of doing Javascript abstraction, especially when jQuery is so capable. So, I want to figure this out with jQuery alone. I've been able to do many jQTouch and Sencha Touch things on my own using jQuery. And jQMobile is still too beta and not directed enough to the Android yet.

The concept works, but I'm stuck on how to pass context to my renderer.   I have been working on a concept for a while for a sports related website where users can record a location on a map and put that location into a category for a sport and then rate it by a metric or two. I want these metrics displayed on the map but then I want a link or button to view a full page description. I know that this is possible with Google Maps but I don't know a lot about Open Street Maps or other options.   I'm new to this low level stuff. I'm currently learning arduino. I'm currently using an Arduino Mega 2560 and in our course we are practicing memory management. I'm a pro at memory management in pc but somehow I'm having crazy problems here in arduino. For instance: The arduino have 8192B, I'm trying to overflow it with uint_16 so I made an array of 8192/16 which is 512. so I did uint16_t A[512+1]; Well I expected that to cause an overflow. What is wrong with my concept?
