• Kinect joint coordinates and XNA animation

  I have written a program to record the x,y,z coordinated of the Hand joint and I want to animate my models 2D or 3D according to these coordinates. . .However the output of the x,y,z coordinates are fluctuating from -0 to 1 but not more than that.. • When designing a job queue, what should determine the scope of a job?

  We've got a job queue system that'll cheerfully process any kind of job given to it. We intend to use it to process jobs that each contain 2 tasks: Job (Pass information from one server to another) Fetch task (get the data, slowly) Send task (send the data, comparatively quickly) The difficulty we're having is that we don't know whether to break the tasks into separate jobs, or process the job in one go. Are there any best practices or useful references on this subject? Is there some obvious benefit to a method that we're missing?   I have to refactor a complex C# app (many dialogs, mixed logic and so on). There is a part managing the communication with special hardware equipments (sending commands and receive data via asynchronous c# callbacks). The code is "spaghetti" with mixed UI/Logic/Communication/etc and my task is to split the layers in a DDD sense. So, to which layer belongs a callback driver routine? The callbacks are creating "bubbles" in the system, up to the UI layer and because of this I cannot enforce the essential principle that any element of a layer depends only on other elements in the same layer or on elements of the layers "beneath" it. • Ubuntu 14.04 liveusb boot screen graphic errors

  I am trying to install Ubuntu 14.04 on my Lenovo Y500 laptop. It came preinstalled with Windows 8. I want to install it in a separate partition with a USB drive. I have tried both Unetbootin and universal usb installer. But for some reason the screen after booting is crappy. The screen goes blank after selecting try ubuntu or install. If I try with nomodeset option the screen only displays on a small strip on the top. Which again is split into three. Each seem to be identical. It is not decent enough to begin installation. The graphic card in my laptop is Nvidia GT650M, if it helps. Maybe the problem is related to that. Can anyone help in fixing this error when installing Ubuntu.

• 2D game big background images for maps

  Update: this question is general, not specific to Sprite Kit or a single language/platform. I'm toying with Sprite Kit with an idea to make a 2D side-scroller. Now the backgrounds for the maps are going to be hand-drawn and surely bigger than retina display, so the maps could span more than 1 screen in both axis. I imagine loading such a huge image could mean trouble and I don't plan to use tiling. I'm not sure how Sprite Kit splits images bigger than max texture size, if it does. I could split the images myself and use more sprites for each part of the background. What is the usual way to handle this?

When i was at university we would sometimes come together into a room full of beer and fast food and crank out software in a weekend. Unfortunately the group has kind of split up and its just not possible any more. My question is now: Where can i find like-minded people on the Internet that would like to do something like this? I have an idea what i wanted to do next, but of course other people have ideas too.

• Second Monitor Detected, but not receiving a signal after upgrading to 12.04

  After I upgraded to 12.04, my second monitor is detected (in display settings), but will not power on. I have scoured the Internet and forums for a solution and I can't find anything. I have found a couple people with the same problem, but never a solution for it. I am no expert, but I'm certainly not a noob. My computer uses AMD Radeon 6250 graphics, but I do NOT want to use the proprietary graphics drivers. They refuse to work properly with my second monitor (they ATI drivers will only mirror screens, and I've done everything to try to fix it, and I DON't want mirrored screens) Not to mention that the default open-source video drivers seem to work much better than the proprietary anyway! Again, Ubuntu's default video drivers work fine, and they even DETECT the second monitor (Dell 19'). I can drag stuff off the screen and put it on the 'space' of the second monitor and even a screen-shot shows that there are two monitors active; but the monitor is OFF. It will not power on. It goes into 'power-save' mode because it is not receiving a signal. For some reason it is not getting the signal to power on, even though Ubuntu thinks the monitor is working properly. I had this working fine on my Sony VAIO yesterday (with Radeon graphics/default Ubuntu video drivers). I upgraded to a Samsung Series 3 and now I have this issue. I can't for the life of me figure out why the monitor is connected, detected and I have screen space for the monitor, but the screen won't turn on! • Failure to start grub with Wubi

  My laptop battery ran down and died while using Ubuntu 10.04 with Wubi. Upon recharge (and restart) selecting Ubuntu from the Windows Boot menu brings me to the typical prompt which says (and I paraphrase): Trying hd(0,0) on Disk... After that the screen flickers to white (for a split second) then black. No grub menu comes up (as I would expect) no cursor, no grub sh prompt. Nothing. I've tried switching TTYs to no avail. As there are no logs, I can't trouble shoot anything. I've run a check disk from windows (on the NTFS partition the root.disk is stored) with no luck. What is causing this failure to load grub (and, by association Ubuntu) - How can I restore my setup and get Ubuntu via Wubi working?

• Tool Review: Telerik JustDecompile

  In the next few lines, I will be providing a brief review of Telerik’s JustDecompile, a free .Net decompiler and assembly browser. In using Telerik’s 2012 Q3 JustDecompile release, one can see many great features.  First off, I loved the built-in options for loading .Net assemblies automatically using the Open->Load Framework menu option. Other options enable loading assemblies from GAC, XAP URL or locally from disk. The ability to create an “Assembly List” is quiet handy for grouping and saving a “List” of DLLs to load. All loaded assemblies are shown in the left panel of a split-panel screen. Clicking an assembly expands all namespaces within. Drilling further to class level displays the actual source code in the right panel in either IL, C# or Visual Basic. In conclusion, JustDecompile has grown and quickly matured into an indispensible handy tool for us developers. Telerik’s effort in maintaining and updating JustDecompile as well as the company’s commitment to keeping it free is much appreciated and valued.

• Working with Active Directory and Windows Small Business Server 2008

  I have to say that in most of my time as a network engineer I have had the opportunity to play with servers, but mostly it's been to put our management software on, and that was about it. I have been a Systems Network Engineer for about three months now, and as such I have been respnosible for the configuration of our test devices... this being said, I have had to start working through how to configure and apply such things as GPO through a new forest, domain and OU. This being said I have configured about three different GPO's and applied them to different locations. The first laptop that I brought into the domain took the default Domain group Policy... this was cool, I got excited... then When I tried to bring in the second Laptop, it didn't take the policy. I looked at the configuration, and the default domain policy was applied to domain computers, however since the laptop resides in the SBS Computers of the OU that was created, SBS created individual policies for XP and Vista for that OU, which I was unaware of. So the default policy for that ou overrode the domain policy and none of the options that were defined in the Domain policy were applied... this being said, I am now working on putting the default Domain as an applicable policy in the OU, thus I won't have to reconfigure another policy to mirror the Domain Policy... here goes nothing!!!.... • Splitting Logic, Data, Layout and "Hacks"

  Sure, we all heard of programming patterns such as MVVM, MVC and such. But that isn't really what I'm looking into as Layout, Data and Logic is already pretty much split up (XML-Layout markup, Database, insert your language of choice here). The platform I am developing for is hard to maintain over the updated versions and older OSes. The project significantly grew up over the last few months and dealing with different platform versions really is a pain. For example simply disabling an user interface control for all existing versions took me around 40 lines of code in the logic layer, wrangling around with invocation, delegation, singletons that provide UI handling and so on. Is there a clean way to keep track of those "hacks" by maybe excluding it into separate classes or even packages? Should I overwrite existing framework code in order to handle my requirements correctly? If so, does that concept have a name?

It also provides its own test(), exec(), forEach(), replace(), and split() methods that eliminate most cross-browser inconstencies and bugs. Anyone using non-trivial regexes in their JavaScript code should seriously consider using XRegExp.   So far I've found very little information on the scheduling policy, resource management policy of Azure HPC Scheduler. I would appreciate any kind of information regarding some of these questions: What scheduling policy does a Head Node use to scatter jobs to Compute Nodes? Does Azure Scheduler use prior information about the jobs (compute time, memory demands ...) ? If 'yes', how it gets this information? Does Azure Scheduler split a job into several parallel jobs on one Compute node? Does it have any protection from Compute Node failures? (what it does when a compute node stops responding) Does it support addition/subtraction of Compute nodes? Is it possible to cancel a job? P.S. I'm aware of the MSDN resource Windows Azure HPC Scheduler. I found only information of how to use this Scheduler but almost nothing about how it works inside.

  Hello, I currently host 5 websites within a dedicated server I own. I have several questions: Does it matter if I host all my sites on 100.100.100.100 (the server's IP for example) or if I split them into 100.100.100.100, 100.100.100.101 ... 100.100.100.104 (that is, each site on its own IP). Does it matter if I use a C-Class for each website? Do search engines really care if your site has its own c-class? Do search engines penalize a website if it moves its IP? Thanks, Joel

• How can I teleport seamlessly, without using interpolation?

  I've been implementing Bukkit plugin for creating toggleable in-game warping areas that will teleport any catched entity to other similar area. I was going to implement concept of non-Euclidean maze using this plugin, but, unfortunately, I've discovered that doing Entity.teleport() causes client to interpolate movement while teleporting, so player slides towards target like Enderman and receives screen updates, so for a split second all underground stuff is visible. While for "just teleport me where I want" usage this is just fine, it ruins whole idea of seamless teleporting, as player can clearly see when transfer happened even without need to look at debug screen. Is there possibility to somehow disable interpolating while teleporting without modifying client, or maybe prevent client from updating screen while it's being teleported?

• Finding out which tile a mouse click landed in

  I am working on an icometric grid based game and im having an issue trying to link a mouse click from the user to a tile. I have been able to split the problem into 2 parts which is first finding a rectangle that sourounds a tile, which I have been able to do but the second part of figuring out from the rectangle which tile the click landed in has got me stumped. Here is an example of a rectangle with tiles on the inside: The rectangle is 70px long and 30px high so if i use an input of say 30x(top)/20y(left) how would I go about determining which tile this fell into?

  We are a group of people who are about to start a software cooperative, which means all of us (and other future workers) will be the owners of the 'company' rather than having bosses and employees. We do this from ideological reasons but also because we believe this allows many advantages - power of democracy (see SE..) , motivation, creativity, good work relations and atmosphere and more. We do face some questions about how exactly ownership of our products should be split, should we give different percentage for different people which put in a different amount of work hours or brings expert knowledge.   The world of DVCSs seems split between Git and Mercurial nowadays, but lots of projects and places (like my new employer) use Bazaar. And it's not a thing of inertia where people just use something because "that's how it's always been done", these guys are agile and sometimes seem to embrace change just for the fun of having more things to fix. Yet no one gave me any convincing arguments for using Bzr over Hg or Git. I can get seeing Git as "too complicated" but you can't use this king of judgement between Hg and Bzr. So then, what are the features of Bazaar that would justify its use over Mercurial (or Git) in any given situation?
