In a lot of C++ API'S (COM-based ones spring to mind) that make something for you, the pointer to the object that is constructed is usually required as a ** pointer (and the function will construct and init it for you) You usually see signatures like: HRESULT createAnObject( int howbig, Object **objectYouWantMeToInitialize ) ; -- but you seldom see the new object being passed as a return value. Besides people wanting to see error codes, what is the reason for this? Is it better to use the ** pattern rather than a returned pointer for simpler operations such as: wchar_t* getUnicode( const char* src ) ; Or would this better be written as: void getUnicode( const char* src, wchar_t** dst ) ; The most important thing I can think of is to remember to free it, and the ** way, for some reason, tends to remind me that I have to deallocate it as well.

server automatically changes the case of files extensions

I have the following problem, if I upload any file to my web server it automatically renames the file to an uppercase extension. For instance: If I upload picture.jpg my server automatically changes it to picture.JPG If I use <img src="picture.jpg"> my server returns a 404 error but if I use <img src="picture.JPG"> then the server displays the image. Can the .htaccess solve this issue? something with RewriteRule and RewriteCond? RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^$\.jpg [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ $1\.JPG [R=301,L] Any help will be greatly appreciated! Phonegap (Cordova) iOS button click

I am trying to create a very simple phone gap application for iOS. I am using query mobile. the problem is, that i can't get javascript event to fire on button click. When have button with # in href, it doesn't event change the color on click. When i add url, it changes color. But it never call javascript function. Another problem is, that document.addEventListener("deviceready", onDeviceReady, false); works only in the index page. If i press button in initial page which redirects to another page, OnDeviceReady function is never called. Anybody has any ideas?

Message passing chrome extension

I wants to create an extension where content script will send message to background page and then on browser action means clicking on extension icon will access that background page and get some data.I am using chrome Version 23.0.1271.64 m on windows8. I am getting following error. Port error: Could not establish connection. Receiving end does not exist. I tried to solve the same. but people are using sendRequest which is not supported by chrome20+. i also found solution mentioned for chrome 20+. But not working. Please help. I am cracking my head to solve this thing. I am unable to fetch the JSON data from remote REST API. I need to fetch the JSOn data nd display the "html_url" field from the JSON data on my website. I am having a very weird problem that just came up and my guess it's that it may be easy to solve, I just can't seem to figure out. in my layout/application.html.haml, I have the following: = javascript_include_tag :all Rather than RoR translating this to a lot of script-loading lines, it does the following: <script src="/beta/assets/all.js" type="text/javascript"></script> similarly, with defaults I get: <script src="/beta/assets/defaults.js" type="text/javascript"></script> What should I look for? or what I am missing? I'm trying to center an image in php. I'm currently using this line of code echo '<img src="newimage.jpg" width="110" height="120" class="centre">'; However, this seems to have no effect. I've also tried using something like this, img.center { display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; } <img src="newimage.jpg" alt="Suni" class="center" /> but this merely gives me a syntax error, how do I go about fixing this? Hi, I am just a beginner in ASP.NET. My question is simple, I wanna add list items dynamically from the code behind file and I want each item to have a text and couple of images as hyperlinks. Preloading images in HTML, is there a more modern way?

I have an image loaded by JS on a mouse event. It's a fairly big image so I want to make sure it gets pre-loaded. I reemmber some old techniques from years ago and found this example: <SCRIPT LANGUAGE = JAVASCRIPT> if (document.images) { img1 = new Image(); img2 = new Image(); img1.src = "imageName1.gif"; img2.src = "imageName2.gif" } </SCRIPT> I wondered if this is still good/relevant, or maybe browsers automatically detect unused images and preload them anyway? Note my page has to support IE6, so I might still need older techniques anyway, but I'm still interested if more modern browsers have a better way?

How to organize files in a gae python project, in eclipse?

Hy! I have my project with pydev and looks like this: ProjectName -src -gaesessions -geo -static_files -app is this ok? I really don't like to have the gaesessions and geo in my root, but their namespace are by root. I would like to have a structure like this: ProjectName -src -python -thirdParty -gaesessions -geo -app -static_files is this possible? or even better would be to make them as a library. this would be the best thing, but how to do this in eclipse and then when deploy my app, to deploy with those files too? thanks

Is it possible to do a regex replace on all IMG tags that are unclosed? If so, how would I identify: <img src="..." alt="..."> ...as a potential canidate to be replaced? = <img src="..." alt="..."/> Update: We have hundreds of pages, and thousands of image tags, all must of which must be closed. I'm not stuck on RegEx -- any other method, aside from manually updating all IMG tags, would suffice.

Display path of file in status bar

Hello GNU Emacs 23.1.1 I am wondering is there a way to display the path of the file in the status bar, instead of just the filename. I have to open many files in many directories, and sometimes I forget what directory they are in. Just easier to display the some of the path in the status bar if that is possible. Sometimes my directory paths are very long. for example /projects/clientserver/trunk/src/client/client.c like this in the status bar, just display the last two directories. /src/client/client.c Many thanks for any suggestions,

video player for HTML 5 page not loading

I'm using VideoJS to as my video player for a project I've been working on. Basically I have a div, and I wanted to have the video player within that div, however when I load the page nothing happens, and the video is never played. In fact, the video is never loaded nor shown in the page. I basically copied the example from VideoJS' page. How can I strip line breaks from my XML with XSLT?

I have this XSLT: <xsl:strip-space elements="*" /> <xsl:template match="math"> <img class="math"> <xsl:attribute name="src">http://latex.codecogs.com/gif.latex?<xsl:value-of select="text()" /></xsl:attribute> </img> </xsl:template> Which is being applied to this XML (notice the line break): <math>\text{average} = \alpha \times \text{data} + (1-\alpha) \times \text{average}</math> Unfortunately, the transform creates this: <img class="math" src="http://latex.codecogs.com/gif.latex?\text{average} = \alpha \times \text{data} + (1-\alpha) \times
					\text{average}" /> Notice the whitespace character literals. Although it works, it's awfully messy. How can I prevent this?

JSON.stringify() supported by IE 8?

I need to use: JSON.stringify() which should be supported by chrome, safari, and FF (I think). I think IE8 also has support for the JSON object. I think IE7 and 6 do not, so I'm doing this:  so, I think this will import the external javascript only if IE6 & 7. I looked at the url where the script is hosted, they are including only if the IE version is less than 9: http://code.google.com/p/html5shiv/  so should I be including this for IE 8 too? Image Replacement (JS/JQuery) working in IE but not FF

I have tried multiple solutions for replacing broken images (both JS & jQuery) and all work perfectly with IE but not in FF, is there a reason for this? Are images handled differently in FF that may cause this? JQuery Example: $("img").error(function(){ $(this).unbind("error").attr("src", "nopic.jpg"); }); Javascript Example: (triggered by onError event in img tag) function noimage(img){ img.onerror=""; img.src="nopic.jpg"; return true; } Both of these examples work perfectly in IE but not at all in FF. Hi, I have a set of functional jars(more than 3) that tests my source code. These jars just contains test classes and assisting asserter classes. I am creating a new performance jar that would import all the functional tests from these jars so that all can be run simultaneously. But when I include them as test dependencies in pom of current jar, what all I get to see is the classes in src/main/java. How can I include these functional jars as dependent jars so that I can also reference classes in src/test/java. In other words, how do I reference the test classes in other jars. In what way should I include the dependency as. Thanks for your support.
