  • Prevent ListBox scrolling to top when updated

    I'm trying to build a simple music player with a ListBox playlist. When adding audio files to the playlist, it first fills the ListBox with the filenames and then (on a separate thread) extracts the ID3 data and overwrites the filenames with the correct Artist - Title information (much like Winamp). But while the ListBox is being updated, it's unscrollable, as it always jumps to the top on every item overwrite. Any way to prevent this?

    Is there any way how to propagate properties from child control into parent - so I can access property like - Parent.Property1 instead of Parent.Child.Property1 ? I cant use inheritance - my parent cant be extended child type - its inherited from different class.   • 2 Controls, 1 event

    I have 2 input textboxes that take a host or IP. When the user leaves an input box an event is fired that checks the input to see if it is actually a live computer. The results are then put into the appropriate label. My question is, should I be using separate events for each input box, since they update different labels? Or, can I use 1 event and check who the caller was, then update the appropriate label?

  • C# cross thread dialogue co-operation

    K I am looking at a primarily single thread windows forms application in 3.0. Recently my boss had a progress dialogue added on a separate thread so the user would see some activity when the main thread went away and did some heavy duty work and locked out the GUI. The above works fine unless the user switches applications or minimizes as the progress form sits top most and will not disappear with the main application. This is not so bad if there are lots of little operations as the event structure of the main form catches up with its events when it gets time so minimized and active flags can be checked and thus the dialog thread can hide or show itself accordingly. But if a long running sql operation kicks off then no events fire. I have tried intercepting the WndProc command but this also appears queued when a long running sql operation is executing. I have also tried picking up the processes, finding the current app and checking various memory values isiconic and the like inside the progress thread but until the sql operation finishes none of these get updated. Removing the topmost causes the dialog to disappear when another app activates but if the main app is then brought back it does not appear again. So I need a way to find out if the other thread is minimized or no longer active that does not involve querying the actual thread as that locks until the sql operation finishes. Now I know that this is not the best way to write this and it would be better to have all the heavy processing on separate threads leaving the GUI free but as this is a huge ancient legacy app the time to re-write in that fashion will not be provided so I have to work with what I have got.   • Click once Deployment suddenly does not work. Displays windows login?

    Hello All, I am facing a peculiar issue. We use click once deployment for our windows application. It was working fine till last week. I made some changes to the application (just code nothing changed in properties) and suddenly I cannot publish anymore. When we give publish now it displays windows authentication dialog and when we provide the credentials nothing happens. It tries to connect to remote server (local LAN) and shows the dialog again. Any idea why this happens? Thanks for your help.

But, as above, the 3 controls DO become invisible. Any suggestions?

  • How to avoid raising an event to a closed form?

    I'm having trouble handling the scenario whereby an event is being raised to a closed form and was hoping to get some help. Scenario (see below code for reference): Form1 opens Form2 Form1 subscribes to an event on Form2 (let's call the event FormAction) Form1 is closed and Form2 remains open Form2 raises the FormAction event In Form1.form2_FormAction, why does this return a reference to Form1 but button1.Parent returns null? Shouldn't they both return the same reference? If we were to omit step 3, both this and button1.Parent return the same reference. Here's the code I'm using... The datatable draws from a database list. this.cboList.DataSource = pullData(); this.cboList.DisplayMember = "fieldA"; Once the DataSource is set I am not able to insert a default row (ie *) as the first item in the combobox. I tried this: this.cboList.Items.Insert(0,"*"); Is there a way to insert in the combobox after the datasource is set or should this be done in the datatable?

When panelParent_Resizes panelChild does a panelChild_HeavyOperation. panelParent rezizes multiple times in InitializeComponent of Form1 and consume a lot of time because of panelChild_HeavyOperation. I decided to reduce the panelChild_HeavyOperation only when the Form1 is shown and has a defined size. by eg. like this: Sub panelChild_HeavyOperation If not FindForm().IsShown then Reuturn ' ....     I have a background worker that runs and looks for stuff, and when it finds stuff, I want to update my main WinForm. The issue that I'm having is that when I try to update my WinForm from my background worker, I get errors that tell me I can't modify things that were made outside of my background worker (in other words, everything in my form). Can someone provide a simple code example of how I can get my code to work the way I want it to? Thanks!

    I have some xml files, which are used in my application. They are stored in the same folder with application , in subfolder DATA: "C:\MyProject\DATA\". But after i install the program f.e. "C:\Project"(DATA folder- "C:\Project\DATA" i got the error: "folder C:\DATA is not found". What i need to change to make things working after deployment. Why it looks for the DATA folder on 1 level higher?

    I'm having trouble with a simple table edit in a Winform application. I must have missed a step. I have a DataSet containing a DataTable connected to a database with a SqlDataAdapter. There is a SqlCommandBuilder on the SqlDataAdapter. On the form, there are TextBoxes which are bound to the DataTable. The binding was done in the Designer and it machine-produced statements like this: this.tbLast.DataBindings.Add(new System.Windows.Forms.Binding("Text", this.belkData, "belk_mem.last", true)); When I fill the row in the DataTable, the values from the database appear in the textboxes, but when I change contents of the TextBox, the changes are apparently not being going to the DataTable.   • Alternative way to notify the user of an error

    I have a winform software that communicates with hardware through a protocol. Sometimes error in communication happens and i would like to notify the user. Errors could be for example: timeouts, crc errors, physical disconnection etc... I have a communication window in which i show these errors, but by default this is hidden. The user can open it though the menubar. Popups are annoying to the user (and to myself) so i would like a un-invasive way to notify the user that an error has occurred. Perhaps a info bubble like when XP tells you updates are ready for your computer? I know that NotifyIcon can help put things in the system tray, which i do not wish to have. I'd rather keep it within my MDI. I'm open to other creative ideas as well.

  • Best way to implement some type of ITaggable interface

    I've got a program I'm creating that reports on another certain programs backup xml files. I've gotten to the point where I need to implement some type of ITaggable interface - but am unsure how to go about it code wise. My idea is that each item (BackupClient, BackupVersion, and BackupFile) should implement an ITaggable interface for highlighting old, out of date, or non-existent files in their HTML or Excel report. The user will be able to specify tags in the settings. My question is this, how can a user dynamically specify a "tag" such as File Date 3 days old? - Background Color = Red. Actually I guess my question is more, how can I, the programmer, implement this dynamically? I was thinking Expression trees, but am unsure this is the way to go as I havn't studied them much. I know my ITaggable interface would have methods such as AddTag(T tag), RemoveTag(T tag), but what exactly specifies the criteria for the tag to be added? I realize this may be subjective, and can be marked as wiki if need be, but I truly am stuck. Any input would be greatly helpful!

  • Printing Images C# Overlapping Wrong

    I have created a program much like Photoshop in the sense that you can place images (picture box) on a control, move them around, delete them, and so on... I have also managed to put together a method to print all the images on the control with no problems. But here is the weird part: When I click print, the program prints the image which was placed first, on top of the image which came second. On the screen the user can see the image which was placed second, on top of the first placed image (the way it should be) but when I print its opposite? I have no idea why it does this...
