• NX Client running on OS X 10.6.3 => NX Server Ubuntu 10.04: weird keymapping issue

  I have been using Ubuntu 9.10 at work after switching from vista. After being (expectedly) disappointed with performance over VNC (via VPN) when logging in from home, I came across the NOMACHINE suite. Last week, I upgraded from OS X 10.6.2 = 10.6.3 at home. After that, I also updated my NX Client at home to the latest version, as there were issues with recent changes in the OSX X11 setup that rendered the NX connection useless. At that point, everything worked fine. Fast forward, I upgraded from 9.10 = 10.04 on my work machine the next day, and after coming home and trying to log-in remotely, I noticed that the "s" and "m" keys, when pressed locally, acted as if the meta key was being pressed on the remote machine. That is, the "s" key opens in the Ubuntu login menu (the power icon), and the "m" key opens the messaging menu. I found some info on using xmodmap to remap keys, however, I can't even begin to fathom what keys I could remap to solve this issue. Any ideas?

  I have problems importing my GPG-Keys into my new installation of debian. I exportet the private-key a few years ago. Now I am trying to get everything running under a new debian. I tried to do gpg --allow-secret-key-import --import private-key.asc But I only get this: gpg: Keine gültigen OpenPGP-Daten gefunden. gpg: Anzahl insgesamt bearbeiteter Schlüssel: 0 which translates to: gpg: No valid OpenPGP-Data found gpg: Number of processed Keys : 0 The file looks correct and starts with --BEGIN PGP PRIVATE KEY BLOCK----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) and ends with -----END PGP PRIVATE KEY BLOCK----- what could be wrong?

• Fixing corrupt AVG vault? All files in USB drive are locked out.

  I was doing a virus scan on an external USB drive and while AVG was scanning my system got locked up and required a reboot. Since that time all data on the external drive is no longer accessible. I can see all the files in the root and directorys but I cannot browse into any of them as Windows 7 gives an error stating they are corrupt. If I show hidden files there is a hidden AVG directory that I know was not there to begin with and I am assuming it is some type of vault to protect files while being scanned. Well not the entire drives contents are unaccessible because I think whatever does the managing of the scan failed during the roobt and left the headers or something in a corrupt state. Does anyone know how to 'unlock' or recover this data? Luckily I can recover this data from other sources as a last resort but I would like to fix this if possible. Any help would be appreciated. • SSH Login to an EC2 instance failing with previously working keys...

  We recently had an issues where I had rebooted our EC2 instance (Ubuntu x86_64, version 9.10 server) and due to an EC2 issue the instance needed to be stopped and was down for a few days. Now I have been able to bring the instance back online I cannot connect to SSH using the keypair which previously worked. Unfortunately SSH is the only way to get into this server, and while I have another system running in its place there are a number of things I would like to try and retrieve from the machine. I can log into iSeries Navigator, navigate to schema functions permissions and change the permission for public from Exclude to All. bam it works. How do I grant permission to all, either in the CREATE FUNCTION or after?

• I am getting error when using Attributes in Rcpp and have RcppArmadillo code

The code uses the new attributes methodology of Rcpp. The sourceCpp works fine and compiles the code, but when I build a package I get errors when I use RcppArmadillo code. Without the RcppArmadillo code and using regulare C++, I do not get these errors. • Disable a Section of the Mousepad?

  I purchased a hp envy 4 ultrabook. Its great but I'm infuriated at the touchpad. The click buttons and the touch pad are combined together but the click button area is touch sensitive. I usually rest my thumb on the right click but the mouse cursor goes completely crazy on this machine. Is there any way to disable a section of the touchpad? Basically make the click button area have nothing to do with the pointer function. I did see this post: Disable touch pad for mouse button region on new HP pavillion models? but the solution presented in that only limited the area from which the touchpad can begin. Since I rest my thumb on the click buttons, I would like to completely disable the click button area of the touchpad. Thank you.

• Outlook 2010 inbox is spammed with meeting acceptances

  A teammate at work sent out a meeting request to several people. They all accepted. However, one of those people's meeting acceptance notes keeps spamming the creators Inbox. The meeting acceptance came in probably more than 100 times. They were deleted and then shortly after a hundred more or so came in. This is in Outlook 2010. This is such a weird problem and I'm not really sure where to begin looking. Unfortunately I don't have access to the actual Exchange server either. Any ideas?

This feature is not currently installed. Would you like to install it now? If I click Yes, I get an error with the message The list of common English (U.K.) AutoCorrections is not available. Microsoft Office Outlook cannot install the necessary files due to Windows Installer error 1605. This action is only valid for products that are currently installed. Does anyone know what I can do to resolve this? A reinstall hasn't worked.

• Virtual guest does not have network access in cafe.

  My Virtualbox guest OS (Ubuntu on ubuntu host) does not connect to the internet when I have wifi access through an internet cafe system. By this, I mean where your browser redirects to an internal web page where you can enter a code. On the guest, I can successfully connect to the virtual network adapter, but I do not get internet access, nor a redirect to the internal web page. I use OpenDNS for the host. I have no problems when connecting through ethernet or regular wifi. Can someone tell me any of: 1) How to fix the problem. 2) How such cafe systems work. 3) At least point me to a technical explanation of such a cafe system so I can begin to troubleshoot. Thanks!

• Why did numbered list stop working after I hit Enter?

  I have a numbered list like: 1.0 Excel 2010 1.1 Introduction to Excel 2010 1.1.A. A general overview of Excel 2010, geared towards beginners 1.1.B. There are 3 videos in this series I put the cursor at the end of the last line on 1.1.B and hit Enter. The next line should begin with 1.1.C but nothing appears when the cursor returns to the next line. Another example, if I put the cursor at the end of 1.1.A and hit enter, I should get a new 1.1.B and the original 1.1.B should be renamed to 1.1.C. After hitting enter, a new 1.1.B doesn't appear and the previous 1.1.B drops all the way to the next page. So the next bullet number that should come up doesn't come up. I tried Microsoft Fix It to reset the Registry and that didn't work either. This is very frustrating. Does anybody know how to fix this?

• Where to set permissions to all server for logon trigger on sql server 2005

  I need to keep track of the last login time for each user in our SQL Server 2005 database.   All, I'm not even sure where to begin looking for resources to answer my question, and I realize that speculation about this kind of thing is highly subjective. I need help determining what class of server I should purchase to host a MS Silverlight application with a MSSQL server back-end on a Windows Server 2008 platform. It's an interactive program, so I can't simply generate a list of URLs to test against, and run it with 1000 simultaneous users. What tools are out there to help me determine what kind of load the application will put on a server at varying levels of concurrent users? Would you all suggest separating the SQL server form the web server, to better differentiate the generated load on the different parts of the stack?

• Apache misbehaving (returning 404s)

  CentOS 6.4 64-bit Apache 2.4.6 PHP-FPM 5.5.4 Homepage from root loads fine http://csillamvilag.com But all other pages return 404 (CMS is WordPress). I am also able to access and log into WordPress backend. Additionally, Menalto Gallery 3 seems to be loading ok http://csillamvilag.com/kepek/ but all OpenCart pages return 404 http://csillamvilag.com/shop/ or http://csillamvilag.com/shop/hu/ Apache is running as user apache. All relevant WordPress and OpenCart files are owned by user apache.   We run Ubuntu Lucid 10.0.4 as the foundation of our LAMP environment. We are trying to become PCI compliant so that we can pass CC info through our server. We have run some third-party scans on our servers to begin the certification process and have run into errors regarding PHP 5 versions and Apache versions. The latest PHP version hosted in our official lucid repository is about 10 versions lower than what PCI compliance requires. How do we upgrade to stay current with PCI compliance requirements? We need to get from php 5.3.2 to php 5.3.15 As well as up to apache 2.2.23 I've searched far and wide for an answer and haven't come up with a realistic answer. Some recommend compiling manually - which sounds like a nightmare, and others recommend a PPA - which sounds insecure. What should we do?

  I have installed the final RTM version of Windows 7 professional 64 bit on a test system before we begin the roll out in our company. I'm having problems connecting to several HP printers that we have on the network. These printers are being shared from a Windows 2003 server host. I have downloaded the lastest HP Universal Printer dirver, however I'm unable to add the 64 bit driver onto the 2003 server system (it's 32 bit). Does anyone have any advice on how I can get connected to these printers from the Windows 7 system?

• XPS vs PDF. What's the status?

  XPS, the PDF alternative, seems to be almost dead in the water. That said, Windows 7 offers a built-in XPS printer and viewer. I believe Vista also offers a built-in printer. XPS seems lighter than PDF, perhaps it only appears so because of Adobe's bloated reader, but that's for another discussion. Is it worth it to begin encoding in XPS instead of PDF? Will Vista or above be able to read it without problems? What should I look out for?

To ensure that the username/password are sent in encrypted form, I want the directory to also force SSL use.   I'm trying to compact a MS-Access database using JetComp.exe using a powershell script. Here is the operative lines: # 4. Run JetComp LogWrite("Begin: Running JetComp") .\JETCOMP.EXE -src: $srcDB -dest: $dstDB | Out-Null #Run this command and wait for it to finish... IfErrorExit("Error Compacting Database") LogWrite("End: Running JetComp") The JETCOMP.EXE program seems to complete long before it is actually finished and the $dstDB ends up being smaller than the compact should even make it. Initially ($srcDB) it's about 1.8 GB and by the time the command finishes it's about 300,000 kb (about 0.29 gb) that's a pretty long way off from 1.8 gb which when compacted manually ends up being about 1.6 gb. Is there some sort of timeout I don't know about in powershell scripts? P.S. I know that when running JETCOMP.EXE manually, that the system often detects it as "not responding" even though it's actually getting the job done, and waiting long enough will allow it to complete.

• Outlook Plug-In for custom CRM

  I would like to write a plug-in that will allow a custom written CRM to read and write to their local Outlook client. I know that this poses a security concern. But, my clients are asking that their CRM "be connected" to Outlook. They would like to be able to do the following: A) When a contact sends them an email (reply or free standing email), they'd like the details of this email to go INTO the CRM. Yep. They would like me to save the body, time and date it was sent, etc. B) They want to be able to send new emails (or replies to existing emails) from within the CRM itself. Basically, "a form that looks like Outlook's send/reply email form". C) Want the ability to search for contacts and the related emails with a search for tags/keywords facility. (i.e. if a product name or code appears in an email then they want the email returned in the search). D) Having performed a search of many contacts, they will want to prepare a mailer and shoot out some sort of email announcement to their qualified leads. This could be 50, 100, or more persons. So its got to be able to allow bulk mailing. E) Given a list of new prospects, that arent currently contacts in the CRM, they will want to do the same and if they get replies from this mailer to the prospects, the will want the replies to be saved in the DB and contacts be inserted into the DB. F) They would like to be able to utilize the calendar and task list facilities of Outlook from the CRM, as well. More or less, they want this pretty basic (as it is today) CRM that I created to integrate with Outlook and have it do so seamlessly as if it was an add-on to the CRM. A plug-in is what I am thinking... But, I dont know where to begin. My environment is Windows XP/Vista and is going to be ASP.NET and I am going to use the VB.NET language to accomplish this. What do I need? Are there resources out there that can describe how to build a plug-in to Outlook as I have been asked to? This is not Exchange, none of the clients use exchange (not so far). They all run Outlook. Mostly 2003. Most clients are XP right now but some are upgrading to Vista. For some reason I cant seem to wrap my head around this. I think the whole security issue is thwarting my ability to see past what is probably a simple thing. The client doesnt want to be prompted by any security messages asking them if they are sure they want to send 382 emails to their contacts. Not once and certainly not 382 times. Where do I begin? I've searched the internet for similar but mainly what I found are already-written products and I've got to write this from scratch.

• Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit Screen Frozen and Remote Desktop Freezes but Server Continues Working

  I've asked this question a couple of times but I don't seem to be getting any real answers. We have a SBS (Windows Server 2008 Rc) server and suddenly the screen has started freezing. Even when we go into the system via remote desktop it worked once or twice (since the problem started), but now the RDP screen freezes once it gets just past the Welcome screen. The server itself is running, SQL is working, Exchange is working, file share is fine. It's just the UI that isn't working. We've tried hard resetting and that works for a short while before the problem comes back. Where do we begin to resolve this issue? Thanks, Jacques

Got a few questions for someone with Rails experience: where should directory containing the project go? inside the website's root folder or out? who should "own" that directory? www? root? something/someone else? hope to continue serving static pages via Apache... would like rails app to be served by mydomain/xxx/railsapp. is there a standard name people us for 'xxx'? not expecting too much traffic to begin with...just like to keep things as simple as possible.
