  I'm trying to install Community Engine using the instructions here: http://github.com/bborn/communityengine At first I thought it might be because I had Rails 2.3.5 and desert 0.5.3 which were higher versions than what was mentioned on the installation site. However moving to rails 2.3.4 and desert 0.5.2 did not work. • How do I create a *public* Facebook community page using the Open Graph protocol?

  I am trying to integrate pages from a site I am building into the Facebook Open Graph. My goal is to create a Facebook "Community Page" for each cause in my application. I have added Open Graph tags to a page so that I can Like it in Facebook, and a community page corresponding to my cause has been added to Facebook. However, I am the only one who can see the community page, since I am its administrator. All other users are redirected to the URL of the cause itself. My community page is at: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kings-Hospital-Garden-Short-Term-Aid/123353527700762 When fans go to this page, I would like them to see the Facebook community page rather than being redirected. • Building Eclipse RCP application, running fails

  Hi, after successfully building my application the start fails because it relies on config files which are located in the META-INF directory and after the build this directory is zipped into a jar file, hence making it unable to access the config files. After manually unzipping the jar, deleting the jar and renaming the directory with xxx.jar the program runs without a problem. The config files are needed for SSO login (Kerberos). Here is the code: Bundle bundle = Platform.getBundle(Application.PLUGIN_ID); String path; try { path = new URL(bundle.getLocation().substring(18)).getPath(); } catch (MalformedURLException e1) { System.out.println(e1); path=""; } System.setProperty("java.security.auth.login.config",path+"META-INF/jaas-win.config"); Path variable contains something like "plugin/mydomain.pluginame-xxxx.jar/" But it seems that the System needs the jar unzipped.   Hi everyone, I need some guidelines about building the code behind of my pages correctly. I mean, I'm building in asp.net for a year now, and mostly using the Page_Load event. (and ofcourse "event handling" the events triggered by the user's actions). I know about the page life cycle and the order of events that happens when a page is requested etc.. . Is it normal that, generally, in a data-driven page, for example, I'm not using any of the "pre_render", "page_unload", "pre_init" etc.. event handlers? or am I missing something here? any guidelines would help me a lot, including links or whatever you think that would instruct me well. thanks.

It builds, but it is not blocking the thread so the external tool gets kicked off before it can finish. Is there a way I can run ExecuteCommand and wait for the thread to finish?   Not sure if this is the right place to post this, or if it should be under programmers.stackexchange... Anywho, a couple of my friends run a business and they asked me to build them a public website. It will only be used for information about the company with soe pictures. No transactions will be involved. Right now I work for a company where I build internal websites, and do alot of backend programming in C#. I understand html, css, jquery, etc. so I feel like I am completely capable of building a website for them. However, I do not know all the basic knowledge to building one. For example, where should we host the files, what type of security issues do I need to be aware of, what's the best software to use for developing websites (I use visual studio at work), where can I find some design techniques, etc. Any help is appreciated.

  I have an MSVC Makefile Project in which I need to set an environment variable before running NMAKE. For x64 builds I needs to set it to one value, and for x86 builds I need to set it to something else. So for example, when doing a build I would want to SET PLATFORM=win64 if I'm building a 64-bit compile, or SET PLATFORM=win32 if I'm building 32-bit.   Hello, I was able to build Qt 4.5 for Windows CE (ARM4VI) using MS VisualC++ compiler. Now, I am trying to compile Qt 4.5 for Windows CE 5.0 using Marvel C++ compiler v 2.2 (former Intel C++ compiler for XScale architecture) for achieving some performance benefit. It seems, that this compiler not officially supported for building Qt by trolltech (no appropriate mkspec in mkspec's folder of Qt folder). So, my questions: Is it worth to trying build Qt by this compiler for achieving performance enhancement ? Is there any way for building Qt using Marvell C++ compiler (by creating my own mkspec or something like that)?

  It's actually two questions in one: What is the right attitude for a programmer? How do you (or would you) look for one when interviewing or during hiring process? Please note this question is not about personality or traits of a candidate, it is about their attitude towards what they do for living. This is also not about reverse of programmers pet peeves. I disagree that the question is purely subjective and just a matter of opinion: clearly some attitudes make a better programmer than others.   On my first job interview, I was asked why did I build my own CMS? Why not to use one of existing CMS, Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal...? At first, I was stunned. I couldn't immediately recall all of my reasons for building my own CMS, but this was definitely one of the main reasons: It's my code and if I want to change something in that CMS (which I often have to do, because each website I build needs CMS with different functions) it's not a big problem. For some time I've been using Wordpress and one of the main things that distracted me from using it was discovering bugs in code that wasn't written by me and this bugs were often, especially if I made some changes to CMS or added a plugin... Here, I can find these 8 reasons why NOT to build own CMS: It won’t meet users’ needs It’s too much work It won’t be a standard solution It won’t be extendible fast enough It won’t be tested well enough It won’t be easily changeable It won’t add any value Create content, not functionality Quote from the same page: So the main question to ask yourself is: ‘Why am I really trying to re-solve a problem that has already been solved before?’ Well, I definitely agree that it's hard to invent CMS that hasn't been already invented, but on other hand, I think every CMS is (or should be) individual... it maybe won't have a million of functions, it will have 3 functions but their usage will be clear (to a user) and do all that one site needs to have. I think also that it is not good to give to a client a CMS with a lot of functions that are never used and it looks probably more professional when website and CMS together look like one product. I would also like to comment some quote parts: "It’s too much work" - I agree, but when using existing CMS and customizing it to website needs and can sometimes be very hard job or mission impossible. • Help building maya render node spec

  Hi there, I'm looking to build 4x Maya render slaves/nodes for a friend of mine when his project gets green lit. The project involves MentalRay and lots of glass. I'm unsure if the new i7's 9xx or 8xx with hyper threading will do any better than a core 2 quad of the same (or close enough) speed. Does hyper threading make a difference to Maya or is it more performance per core based? I'm sure he's prefer I'd build another render node than pay for a bleeding edge CPU that only adds fractionly more GHz. -- The rest of the spec so far: 4Gb - 8Gb ram 64 bit OS: Probably Windows 7 (I know Linux is free, but want to build something my friend can support himself as easily as he supports his own workstation) 1TB HDD to hold textures, Maya files and renders which will be copied to central storage later Mobo with on-board video, gigabit NIC 500 - 650 watt PSU Desktop case something like a: Cooler Master ATCS 840 The machines will sold afterwards if necessary. -- If anyone has had experience in Maya and has done any tests with the new CPUs vs. the older ones I'd really appreciate your input.

• Building RPM containing passwords

  I need to be able to send an RPM to customers that will install the complete server, including Apache and MySQL. The customers will install it on a clean machine. After installation, the server should connect to our main DB, so I though of including the password in the RPM somehow, encrypted if possible. The reason I'm asking this is because I'm pretty sure that it's not wise to save the password in the rpm scripts.   I tried to build the linux kernel 3.0.4 on ubuntu 11.10 in virtualbox. Here are my steps: Download the source code tar xjvf linux-source-3.0.0.tar.bz2 cd linux-source-3.0.0 make menuconfig, changed nothing but used the default config and save to .config make Actually I think it should be 3.0.4 because from the Makefile I could see VERSION = 3 PATCHLEVEL = 0 SUBLEVEL = 4 EXTRAVERSION = Then at stage 2 which is to make modules, an error happened: ERROR: "__modver_version_show" [drivers/staging/rts5139/rts5139.ko] undefined! make[1]: *** [__modpost] Error 1 make: *** [modules] Error 2 Perhaps because 3.0.4 is a new release so that I can not find any same problem asked nor any solution to it.
