  • Why i disconnect every few seconds? using USB wireless adapter

    i know it's for ubuntu questions..but mint and ubuntu are very similiar and i had the same problem with linux ubuntu too..so i think this is the right place for my question anyway i don't have experience with drivers and other things,after installing Linux on my machine( i did dist-upgrade btw) everything seem to be great because i didn't have to install any driver, after a while i realized that my connection stop after few minutes(actually it shows that I'm connected but it's not) so i have to reconnect and after few minutes it disconnect again. I'm using Alfa USB wireless adapter AWS036H, and my Linux version is 11 i think the driver i'm using is Realtek i searched in the Internet and i found nothing. these are some outputs of few things (Normally I only use document.ready, but in this case I need to insert some Information into the DOM that then is present, when document.ready is called. This is some kind of "happens-before" relations ship I want to achieve so that I am shure when document.ready is called the inserted Form field is available in the document, as I depend on that information.     Hi, I have a Greasemonkey script that processes Google search results. But it's failing in a few instances, when xpath searches (and document body) appear to be empty. Running the code in Firebug's console works every time. It only fails in a Greasemonkey script. Greasemonkey sees an empty document.body. I've boiled the problem down to a test, greasemonkey script, below. I'm using Firefox 3.5.9 and Greasemonkey 0.8.20100408.6 (but earlier versions had the same problem). Problem: Greasemonkey sees an empty document.body. Recipe to Duplicate: Install the Greasemonkey script. Open a new tab or window. Navigate to Google.com (http://www.google.com/). Search on a simple term like "cats". Check Firefox's Error console (Ctrl-shift-J) or Firebug's console. The script will report that document body is empty. Hit refresh. The script will show a good result (document body found). Note that the failure only reliably appears on Google results obtained this way, and on a new tab/window. Turn javascript off globally (javascript.enabled set to false in about:config). Repeat steps 2 thru 5. Only now the Greasemonkey script will work. It seems that Google javascript is killing the DOM tree for greasemonkey, somehow. I've tried a time-delayed retest and even a programmatic refresh; the script still fails to see the document body.   • XML/XSL nub: Is it possible to create an COMPOSITE XML/XSLT document?

    I have just recently (like 2 days) started using XSLT documents with XML. I understand the basics and am able to generate a formatted document using an .XML document that references a separate .XSLT document. My question, as in the subject, is "Is it possible to create a SINGLE, composite document that contains both the XML data and XSLT processing/formatting/styling and displays as formatted HTML?" I am writing a desktop application in which I need to generate a formatted document on the fly from XML stored in the database. I want to do this without creating or referencing any actual physical files. I will generate a text string containing the XML/XSLT document and feed this to a WebBrowser component for formatted display. Hopefully what I want to do doesn't totally go against the whole XML/XSLT methodology. Any information, direction or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

  • What are some easy techniques to scan books for new information?

    I find it irresistible to keep purchasing cheap programming and technical e-books in fields such as Drupal, PHP, etc., and also compulsively download free material made available such as those from Microsoft's developer blog... The main problem with the large library I've developed is that there are many chapters (especially the first few) in these books packed with information I already know, but with helpful tidbits hidden in between. The logical step would be to skip those chapters and read the ones I don't seem to know anything about, but I'm afraid I may lose out on really important information this way. But naturally it is tedious to have to read about variables, functions and objects all over again when you are trying to know more about the Registry pattern, for example. It's hard to research on the net for this, because my question itself seems vague and difficult to formulate into a single search query. I need people-advice - what do you do in this situation?

  • Why would a web site keep my signup information for a limited time only?

    I have just created account at (some web service, well, actually it was Transifex, a localization service). Registration form requested typical things: accont name, e-mail adress, password (twice), and, optional company name and phone number. What confused me was this sentence on confirmation page (the one right after submitting the form): We will store your signup information for 7 days on our server. Can anybody explain what does this mean? What exactly they are referring to by "signup information", if it's something that should be kept for only 7 days? Or is my account going to be destroyed after that time? (Well, that could make sense for some special services, but not for this one.)

  • What is the best database design for managing historical information? [closed]

    Say you have a Person table with columns such as: ID, FirstName, LastName, BirthCountry, ...etc. And you want to keep track of changes on such a table. For example, the user may want to see previous names of a person or previous addresses, etc. The normalized way is to keep names in separate table, addresses in a separate table,...etc. and the main person table will contain only the information that you are not interested in monitoring changes for (such information will be updated in place). The problem I see here, aside form the coding hassle due to the extensive number of joins required in a real-life situation, is that I have never seen this type of design in any real application (maybe because most did not provide this feature!). So, is there a better way to design this? Thanks.

I am thinking of studying Information technology/System as my course in college. The problem is, I am unsure if this is the right path for me. I don't know if this is what I really want for my future later on! Yes, I do love learning more about computers (prefer software to hardware). But what if I don't find them interesting later on when studying? I'm worried about that as I don't wanna regret later on. To add to that, my knowledge of programming and other software development is actually quite low. Can someone advise me on what should I do?   • Sharepoint and encryption

    I'm currently setting up WSS 3.0 at my work, and I'm in the finance section of it. My question is, is there a possibility to encrypt and decrypt lists? And I mean entire lists, because the document libraries will have different types of files in it, from Word to Invoices in InfoPath. I know there is a solution in CodePlex called CryptoCollaboration, but whenever I deploy the solution in SharePoint I get a server error. Any alternatives? Or maybe you could fix the codeplex solution, that would be great! Thanks in advance!

    I want to understand how to implement an announcement/info box system that displays a box for the user with information. The user can do nothing or close the box, but then it will never be seen again. E.g. Facebook home page. Box asking for Translators. if you leave it then its always there. But if you close it, it never appears again. Does this mean that a Boolean value needs to be used and checked for announcement/info boxes? I'm looking for a pseudo way with database tables to do this?

  • iPhone - how to store documents consisting of multiple images?

    My iPhone (actually, iPad) app creates documents that consist of several images, plus a bit of metadata. What's the best practice for storing these sorts of documents on disk? I see two main options: Create a folder for each document, and store my images as separate PNG files within the folder (plus another little file for the metadata). Create a single file which contains all images and metadata. But I'm not sure how to easily do option 2. I think I can convert my images in PNG format to/from NSData, but then what? I'm still a newbie at Cocoa, but I believe I saw something about stuffing mixed data into some NSSomethingOrOther and having this write itself out to disk, and read itself back in later. Does this ring a bell with anyone? And, will it work with large binary blobs of data like my images? Or would you recommend I simply go with option 1?

    We have a sharepoint based application that uses a custom database for storing metadata/files (which could also be on a file share) My question is how can the standard file checkin/check out option in document library be customized? The javascript file ows.js in the layouts folder contains the functions that provide checkin/check out/ open file functionality. Behind the scenes it relies on a combination of HTTP Post/GET methods + SOAP + an activeX control to achieve the desired functionality. Customizing these javascript function seems tedious/error prone. Note that we have a web service that exposes endpoints, for retrieving necessary file information/data from the backend. The difficulty is in integrating it with the sharepoint js functions, due to lack of proper documentation. (Also the js functions might change over different versions of sharepoint) Also is it possible to create files/open files etc from the cache area on the client machine from server side code?

  • Cannot select/edit TineMCE-generated table

    I'm currently using TinyMCE edit in my drupal-website, problem is that beneath the editor, some of the table is sticking out. If I remove the height set by javascript with firebug, it looks fine, even after resizing. So I want to remove the height with JS, I've put this function at the end of my page: $('table#edit-body_tbl').removeAttr('style'); However nothing happens. I test the function in firebug's console, it works perfectly. Basically, the problem is the JS works, but it wont do anything if I simply load it at the end of the page, even in the document.ready function. The TineMCE script is loaded before my script so I should be able to select/edit/delete elements generated by it no? Does anybody know why or how I can force the page to really load my function in the end(currently it is right in front of the -tag)? Other functions in the script work, except this thing ...

Often I overhear students in the Management of Information Systems major call themselves programmers. These comments make me angry for a few reasons: They seem to trivialize what I do. Most of them are not even capable of doing what I can do. To me, MIS is IT and the are technicians and software developers are engineers and are not IT. So I guess my question is, Is software development part of IT? I often see them lumped together.

  • How do I distinguish a SharePoint file update as being from a file upload?

    In SharePoint, when an item is first added to a document library, it fires the ItemAdded and ItemAdding events as expected. And if you upload the same filename to update the existing file, it will fire off ItemUpdated and ItemUpdating events, likewise as expected. However, I have been unsuccessful at determining whether this kind of action has actually occurred or not. Or, more specifically, I am entirely unable to differentiate between the following: An item is updated because someone uploaded a new file but did nothing to any of the form fields. An item is updated because someone hit "OK" but did nothing to any of the form fields. Is there actually a way to distinguish these kinds of updates? There appears to be nothing in event properties that contains this information, nor in the version history for both the list item and the file itself. I have even tried comparing the files themselves via OpenBinary(), but in both mentioned cases I still get the same result. Thank you in advance for any help!

  • The best way to display data in a table view?

    Hey guys, I'm trying to display nutritional information in a table view but am struggling about the best way to show the info. I don't want to create unique views for each page as that would take up a lot of space. My ideal avenue would be like a website having links to data pages instead of individual views for each page. How would I best implement that? For example, I would want the first page to be a list of restaurants, then as you press the restaurant it would list the different types of food...the next page would be a list of those foods and then the final page would be the nutrition info itself. Can this have something to do with the code above being in the document ready function to do?
