    I want to write an emacs function that does the following - 1) Start a new shell named "abc". 2) Change the dir "/opt/abc" 3) In the dir run a shell command "python abc.py" I have written the following fucntion - (defun abc-server () (interactive) (shell-command "cd /opt/abc/") (shell-command "python abc.py")) The problem with the above - 1) It doesnt start a new shell 2) It doesnt change the dir. 3) When the cmd executes, it opens a browser window, which completely blocks any usage of emacs.

  • How to improve this bash shell script for turning hardlinks into symlinks?

    This shell script is mostly the work of other people. It has gone through several iterations, and I have tweaked it slightly while also trying to fully understand how it works. I think I understand it now, but I don't have confidence to significantly alter it on my own and risk losing data when I run the altered version. So I would appreciate some expert guidance on how to improve this script. The changes I am seeking are: make it even more robust to any strange file names, if possible. It currently handles spaces in file names, but not newlines. I can live with that (because I try to find any file names with newlines and get rid of them). make it more intelligent about which file gets retained as the actual inode content and which file(s) become sym links. I would like to be able to choose to retain the file that is either a) the shortest path, b) the longest path or c) has the filename with the most alpha characters (which will probably be the most descriptive name). allow it to read the directories to process either from parameters passed in or from a file. optionally, write a long of all changes and/or all files not processed. Of all of these, #2 is the most important for me right now. I need to process some files with it and I need to improve the way it chooses which files to turn into symlinks. (I tried using things like the find option -depth without success.)   • Multiple 301 redirect and massive loss of ranking

    I just remade from scratch a website for a client, the client ask me to preverve their ranking by making 301 redirect from the original URL to the new URL. For instance: http://plumber-directory.my-website.com/john-smith-city-1.php became http://directory.my-website.com/plumber/city/john-smith.html So i put the website online for few days until the 301 partially kicks in the google results. Then the client call me back to tell me that his boss want to switch back to the ancients URLs _< So i put a new 301 redirect: http://directory.my-website.com/plumber/city/john-smith.html revert to http://plumber-directory.my-website.com/john-smith-city-1.php Because google had just few days to assimilate the new URLs, it have now the two kinds of URLs in it's own result pages. Also the ranking of the website keeps falling down every day, i suspect google to mistaking those redirects for duplicate content. Is there something i can do to avoid a total loss of rankings?

  • Permission settings for apache2 web content directories with several users?

    Hi there. I've got a Debian VPS set up with a LAMP-stack. My apache2 instance runs on the user account 'www-data'. In addition to the root account and the service accounts I have several user accounts belonging to friends, family and myself that includes FTP-access. This is to allow the users to drop files to the root of their domain which is located in their home folder. I am having issues with setting the correct permissions so that Apache is able to serve the content ("403 Forbidden"). I could just do a 'chmod -R 755 *' on the entire www-directory for each domain, but from what I gather that's not a good idea. Here's an example of the structure: apache2 is run by 'www-data' User 'john' has this home folder structure /home/john/domains/somedomain.com/www /home/john/domains/sub.somedomain.com/www How can I keep things safe while still allowing users to upload content via FTP, and allow for file-uploads in lets say Wordpress?

  • Revert "Deny" permissions in Windows 7

    I made a very dumb mistake and I am hoping there is a way to fix this without having to boot in through a Linux Live CD and extracting the data. My user login to my Windows 7 system is: John John is part of the Administrator's group. I have a folder called "C:\Users\John" I tried to make this folder accessible to ONLY John (and deny from all other Administrators) by going to the Folder, Right Click Secturity tab and then selecting all the checkboxes under "Deny" while having selected the "Administrators" group. As a result, I cannot access this folder from any of the accounts: "John" and "Administrator" as both of them belong to the Administrators groupd and deny permissions out-weigh the "Allow Permissions" Is there any way I could revert this back? Thanks a million!

    I have a batch script that starts a java server application inside of a screen. The command looks like this: cd /dir/ && screen -A -m -d -S javascreen java -Xms640M -Xmx1024M -jar javaserverapp.jar nogui After I run the batch script, it starts the server and puts it inside the correct screen. If I list my screens after, I see something like this: user@gtwy /dir $ screen -list There is a screen on: 16180.javascreen (Detached) 1 Socket in /var/run/screen/S-user. However, I have a second batch script that sends automated commands to this server and runs on a different crontab interval. Because of the way the application works, I send commands to it like this (this command tells it to alert connected users "testing 123"): screen -X exec .\!\! echo say testing 123 I've also tried: screen -R -X exec .\!\! echo say testing 123 screen -S javascreen -X exec .\!\! echo say testing 123 Unfortunately, these commands DO NOT WORK. They don't even give me an error message, they just do nothing. HOWEVER - If I manually attach to the screen first (with the below command) and then detach, now I can run any of the above commands flawlessly. I can demonstrate this with a video, if I wasn't clear enough here. screen -r -d Thanks in advance. Update: here is the important parts of /etc/screenrc. If we only had the first 2 rows we can guess that it takes 0.375 days to make Item 1 and 0.625 days to make Item 2. I want to be able to calculate this on average using all the data and taking in to account the operators obviously working on different items. Thank you

  • Transmission-daemon not picking up on watch directory

    Trying to get my transmission-daemon to pick up files from a dropbox folder, to make remote starting easier (it's a headless system). As far as I can tell, the settings.json file is as expected, but none of the files I place in the folder get picked up. I have checked that dropbox is syncing correctly. Here is the whole settings.json file, but the relevant lines are included below: "watch-dir": "/home/john/Dropbox/torrents", "watch-dir-enabled": true Update It appears to be a permissions issue. From /var/log/syslog: Unable to watch "/home/john/Dropbox/torrents": Permission denied (watch.c:79) I have tried stopping the daemon - sudo service transmission-daemon stop - changing permissions of folder using chown - sudo chown -R john /home/john/Dropbox/torrents - restarting daemon - sudo service transmission-daemon start Same result, however Update 2 Permissions for the folder are: drwsrwsrwx 2 john debian-transmission 4096 2012-04-09 19:40

When the week changes for the same person, restart the total.     So I am not sure if I am asking this correctly; let me explain: IS there a way I can run my MDE without the access shell around the forms/reports? The part that provides the menu, and the little application title. I think it is the overall presentation layer form that all my access stuff sits on, but I am not sure. I am just wondering if you can get rid of it. Thanks
