• Capturing network traffic in ruby - pcap related issues

  What I need is to write very simple application, which would listen to network traffic, filter out some packets based on various layer 4/5 information and then dump those information into database. I am quite confused on which pcap gem/plugin should I use. The basic pcap implemention seem to be a bit outdated (no changes since 2001) and doesn't work properly. I also tried pcaprub, but I am not quite sure how to get around with this library. It seem to capture raw packets without te ability to actualy get any data out of the pcap dump. Do you have any advices on how can I realize this simple task? Thanks in advance. :-)

How do I know upload that file using the Ajax.BeginForm? Is the code right? Can anyone more experience advise about using jQuery plug-in to upload file before the form submission? Thank you

• How to get UIScrollView contentOffset during an animation

  I am trying to get the contentOffset property of a UIScrollView in the middle of a setContentOffset animation. Note I am not using the animated property of the method, but instead enclosing the setContentOffset operation within a UIView animation block so I can have finer control. When I try to read the value of contentOffset in the middle of the animation, it returns the final value rather than the value at that moment. I know that you can use the presentationLayer to get the current layer, but is there any way you can get the current offset in the middle of an animation?

  Like any design pattern the Specification Pattern is a great concept but susceptible to overuse by an eager architect/developer. I am about to commence development on a new application (.NET & C#) and really like the concept of the Specification Pattern and am keen to make full use of it. However before I go in all guns blazing I would be really interested in knowing if anyone could share the pain points that experienced when use the Specification Pattern in developing an application. Ideally I'm looking to see if others have had issues in Writing unit tests against the specification pattern Deciding which layer the specifications should live in (Repository, Service, Domain, etc) Using it everywhere when a simple if statement would have done the job etc? I have mainSprite (pointer) which can access it. If I change [mainSprite setOpacity:150]; it works perfectly. But Here I want to change the sprite image instead of opacity. But Don't know how? • POJO's versus Cursors in Android

  I usually tend to define the model layer of my apps using POJO's, such as Article, Comment, etc. I was about to implement an AlphabetIndexer in the adapter of one of my ListViews. Right now this adapter accepts a Collection of Articles, which I normally get from my wrapper around an SQLiteDatabase. The signature of the AlphabetIndexer constructer is as follows: public AlphabetIndexer (Cursor cursor, int sortedColumnIndex, CharSequence alphabet) Since this doesn't accept a Collection or something similar, just a Cursor, it got me wondering: maybe I shouldn't be creating objects for my model, and just use the Cursors returned from the database? So the question is, I guess: what should I do, represent data with Collections of POJO's, or just work with Cursors throughout my app? Any input?

• Trouble using Loader, can't access properties of loaded swf

  May not have asked question correctly so I’m asking again. I’m using Flash AS3 with code in actions layer. Main movieclip onstage is : design_mc. Within it is a movieclip already in place onstage with an instance name clipart_mc. Now I’m also loading a ListBox to the stage and each time a selection is made from listbox myLoader9 is used to load selected .swf into design_mc.clipArt_mc. Now within each of the .swf files loaded into design_mc.clipArt_mc there is a mc I’d like to color transform called color_mc. So now the listbox is onstage and I make a selection that places heart.swf inside of design_mc.clipArt_mc. I want to access heart.swf so I did this: var child:DisplayObject = myLoader9.content.contentLoaderInfo.content.color_mc; var colorTrans3:ColorTransform = new ColorTransform(); var trans3:Transform = new Transform(child); I still can not get to heart.swf. Can anyone help please? Anne

• Infinite loop when adding CATiledLayer to UIView

  I have a UIView in which I add a CATiledLayer and implement 'drawLayer'. If I use a UIViewController and add the layer to a new subview of the controller, then everything is ok. If I however try to use a UIView to and do all the craetion and drawing within this, then I get a infinite loop at the point shown below when I add this view to a superview. 0x002cfafb <+0425> ja 0x2cfa23 <-[UIView(Hierarchy) _makeSubtreePerformSelector:withObject:withObject:copySublayers:]+209> What am I missing?

• How to access the Principal from a Java service object without using FlexContext?

  We're building some Java objects that are exposed via BlazeDS to our flex client application. So basically the BlazeDS messagebroker servlet instantiates and invokes methods on these objects in response to client requests. Works great. We're using app server-based authentication and have set up a security constraint on the <destination> elements in the remoting-config.xml file element to prevent unauthenticated clients from being able to access these remote java objects. Again, works fine. However, there are several places within the implementation of these java objects where we want to get the currently logged on user's username. Right now we are doing this via FlexContext.getUserPrincipal(), which gives access to this but we have a nagging concern that we don't like the idea that the implementation of these objects (the service layer) has a hard dependency on a BlazeDS class. But we're not sure how else to get access to this. The same applies to accessing the ServletContext and such. Any ideas?

  Hi, I am using a Radio Layer Interface (RIL) Native API in Windows Mobile application. In this API, the return values / results of most functions are not returned immediately but are passed through a callback function which is passed to the RIL API. Some usage examples are found at XDA Develompent Tools and Google Gears Geolocation API. My question is, in these two examples, a mutex is used to guard the data instead of other synchronization objects. Now, will Critical Section do fine here in the use cases described by both examples? Which thread or process will actually call the callback functions?

• linq2sql - where to enlist transaction (repository or bll)?

  My app uses a business layer which calls a repository which uses linq to sql. I have an Item class that has an enum type property and an ItemDetail property. I need to implement a delete method that: (1) always delete the Item (2) if the item.type is XYZ and the ItemDetail is not null, delete the ItemDetail as well. My question is where should this logic be housed? If I have it in my business logic which I would prefer, this involves two separate repository calls, each of which uses a separate datacontext. I would have to wrap both calls is a System.Transaction which (in sql 2005) get promoted to a distributed transaction which is not ideal. I can move it all to a single repository call and the transaction will be handled implicitly by the datacontext but feel that this is really business logic so does not belong in the repository. • Using background-attachment:fixed in safari on the ipad

  I'm looking to recreate an effect similiar to the popular science app. Basically have one big background image and then have HTML/CSS layer on top of that. When the user scrolls the content, then background-position of the image should remain in place, and not scroll. Obviously in a 'regular' browser I would use background-attachment:fixed, but this doesn't seem to work on the ipad. I know position:fixed doesn't work as you might expect according to safari spec - but is there any way of achieving this?

  Imagine the following code. <body id="first_bg_layer"> <div id="second_bg_layer"> <div id="third_bg_layer"> </div> </div> </div> Each layer has a different background that is static/repeated to achieve the desired effect. I need all layers to fill up the screen, otherwise the background will be broken. The background is split in layers to minimize the image sizes. Setting min-height to 100% doesn't work for various reasons. Is there any way to do this?

  I use DataTemplateSelector for ListView column headers template selection. ListView itself is in DataTemplate and ends up in a few tabs. So, in practice, I have same DataTemplate (so ListView too) shared between more TabItems. This means that if I select tab {A} and set XDataTemplate on ListView column {AColumn}, if I switch the tab, lets say to tab {B}, on {B}'s ListView (that is always the same one) column {AColumn} we will see the same XDataTemplate, because we share same UI data. So I created data layer where I hold relational information about {Tab} <- {ListView:Column} <- {HeaderContent}, which actually reads DatatemplateSelector in order correctly update UI on user screen. What I need is to notify to DataTemplateSelector to update current view in the moment that I need. How can I achieve that goal? Thank you.

• Sync Framework, Local Database Cache, and my DAL

  I am creating a WPF app that needs to allow users to work in a temporary disconnected state and I plan to use a Local Database Cache. My question's are about my data access layer. Do you typically create the whole DAL to point at the Cache or both and create a switching mechanism? Is Entity's a good way to go for my DAL against the Cache? I am used to L2S but my understanding is that I can't use that against SQLCE, correct? Thanks! PS: Any good resources out there for using Sync, Linq, and WPF? Tutorials, videos, etc?

• How to add a view on top of a UIPopoverController

  I've got an iPad app with a “drawer” table displayed in a popover. The user can tap-and-hold on an item in the drawer to drag that item out of it and into my main view. That part works fine; unfortunately, the view being dragged appears under the popover, and is too small to be visible until it's dragged out from underneath it. If I add the view as a subview of the view controller in the popover, it gets clipped by the popover's frame, and as I can't access the UIPopoverController's view, I can't disable its layer's masksToBounds—and that probably wouldn't be a great idea anyway. I suspect that I could use an additional UIWindow with a high windowLevel value to force the dragged view to appear on top of the popover, but this seems like overkill. Is there a better solution?

  SLOVED see commend I develop am webservice based on apache tomcat 6.0.26, apache cxf 2.2.7, spring 3.0, hibernate 3.3 and sybase sqlanywhere 11. im using the latest JDBC Driver from SYBASE jconn.jar Version 6. The persistence layer is based on spring + hibernate dao, the connection is configured via a JNDI datasoure (META-INF directory). It seems that, during longer times of inactivity, the connection from the webservice to the database is closed. Exception: java.sql.SQLException: JZ0C0: Connection is already closed. • Mapping table and a simple view with Fluent NHibernate

  I have mapped a simple entity, let's say an invoice using Fluent NHibernate, everything works fine... after a while it turns out that very frequently i need to process 'sent invoices' (by sent invoices we mean all entities that fulfill invoice.sent==true condition)... is there a way to easily abstract 'sent invoices' in terms of my data access layer? I dont like the idea of having aforementioned condition repeated in half of my repository methods. I thought that using a simple filtering view would be optimal, but how could it be done? Maybe I am doing it terribly wrong and someone would help me realize it :)?

• XML deserialization doesn't read in second level

  Sorry if the title doesn't make much sense, but I'm not too familiar with the terminology. My question is: I have a config.xml file for a program I'm working on. I created an xsd file by 'xsd.exe config.xml'. I then took this xsd and added it to the solution in visual studio. My last step used a program called xsd2code that turned that xsd file into a class I can serialize too. The problem is it doesn't read more then a layer deep in the xml tree. By this I mean the elements in the root node get deserialized into my object, but those that are in a node inside the root node are not. I found this out by putting a breakpoint after the deserialization and looking at my object. Any Ideas? Let me know if this needs some clarification or you need a snippet of something.

  How can I implement a vtable COM interface in java? In the old days, I'd use the Microsft JVM, which had built in java-COM interop. What's the equivalent for a modern JRE? Answers to a similar SO question proposed JACOB. I've looked at JACOB, but that is based on IDispatch, and is aimed at controlling Automation serers. The COM interfaces I need are custom vtable (extend IUnknown), e.g. IPersistStream, IOleWindow, IContextMenu etc. For my use case, I could implement all the COM specifics in JNI, and have the JNI layer call corresponding interfaces in java. But I'm hoping for a less painful solution. It's for an open source project, so open source alternatives are preferred.

• How can I tell when a UIWebView has finished drawing to a context?

  In my code I'm trying to show a UIWebView as a page is loading, and then, when it's done, capture an image from the web view to cache and display later (so I don't have to reload and render the web page). I have something along the lines of: CGContextRef context = CGBitmapContextCreate(…); [[webView layer] renderInContext:context]; CGImageRef imageRef = CGBitmapContextCreateImage(context); UIImage *image = [UIImage imageWithCGImage:imageRef]; The problem I'm running into is that, due to UIWebView's tiling, sometimes only half of the page is rendered to the context by the time I capture the image. Is there a way to detect or block on UIWebView's background rendering thread so that I can get the image only after all of the rendering has finished?
