  • How can I run Gnome or KDE locally in Cygwin?

    - by John Peter Thompson Garcés
    Apparently it is possible to do this using cygwin ports, as can be seen in screenshots. I followed this how-to to get apt-cygports set up, and I used it to install gnome-session. This how-to supposedly gives the commands needed to run Gnome or KDE, but whenever I try to run Gnome, a blank X-window pops up and then quickly disappears. Here is the terminal output: $ startx /usr/bin/dbus-launch gnome-session xauth: file /home/jpthomps/.serverauth.4168 does not exist Welcome to the XWin X Server Vendor: The Cygwin/X Project Release: 1.10.3.0 OS: Windows 7 Service Pack 1 [Windows NT 6.1 build 7601] (WoW64) Package: version 1.10.3-12 built 2011-08-22 XWin was started with the following command line: /usr/bin/X :0 -auth /home/jpthomps/.serverauth.4168 (II) xorg.conf is not supported (II) See http://x.cygwin.com/docs/faq/cygwin-x-faq.html for more information LoadPreferences: /home/jpthomps/.XWinrc not found LoadPreferences: Loading /etc/X11/system.XWinrc LoadPreferences: Done parsing the configuration file... winDetectSupportedEngines - DirectDraw installed, allowing ShadowDD winDetectSupportedEngines - Windows NT, allowing PrimaryDD winDetectSupportedEngines - DirectDraw4 installed, allowing ShadowDDNL winDetectSupportedEngines - Returning, supported engines 0000001f winSetEngine - Using Shadow DirectDraw NonLocking winScreenInit - Using Windows display depth of 32 bits per pixel winFinishScreenInitFB - Masks: 00ff0000 0000ff00 000000ff Screen 0 added at virtual desktop coordinate (0,0). • How to make emacs accept UTF-8 from the keyboard

    - by Brent.Longborough
    My friends have persuaded me to "try again" (about the 5th time in about 12 years) with emacs. I'm currently suffering a little, and need help with emacs + utf-8. I'm running the 23.3.1 emacs gui on Windows 7 with my own custom keyboard layout (built with MS Keyboard Layout Creator). The layout has a full ISO-8859-1 (Latin-1) character set, plus some additional characters from ISO-8859-9 (Latin-5, gis etc for Turkish) and w for Welsh (don't know where that one lives). In my .emacs, I have (blindly) added these lines: ;; key board / input method settings (setq locale-coding-system 'utf-8) (set-terminal-coding-system 'utf-8) (set-keyboard-coding-system 'utf-8) (set-language-environment 'UTF-8) ; prefer utf-8 for language settings Now, when I enter characters from ISO Latin-1 from the keyboard, they are accepted without problems, but characters from outside Latin-1 are "translated" to an approximate character in Latin-1. Thus, for example, Latin-5 "g" gets converted to a plain "g". Cutting and pasting, however, work fine. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I should like to make everything I do with emacs utf-8 with BOM.

  • how to read user input from custom dialog in android?

    - by urobo
    I'd like to use a custom dialog built over an AlterDialog to obtain login info from the user. In this manner I first use the layoutinflater to get the layout and then put it in the AlertDialog.Builder.setView() method. LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater) Home.this.getSystemService(LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); layoutLogin = inflater.inflate(R.layout.login,(ViewGroup) findViewById(R.id.rl)); My layout consists of two textview and two editext for username and password respectively. Then I override the onCreateDialog method, checking the dialog id and putting all together, during the building phase I use the setButton(...) method to add a confirmation Button, neutral though: /* (non-Javadoc) * @see android.app.Activity#onCreateDialog(int) */ @Override protected Dialog onCreateDialog(int id) { AlertDialog d = null; AlertDialog.Builder builder = new AlertDialog.Builder(this); switch(id){ ... case Home.DIALOG_LOGIN: builder.setView(layoutLogin); builder.setMessage("Sign in to your DyCaPo Account").setCancelable(false); d=builder.create(); d.setTitle("Login"); Message msg = new Message(); msg.setTarget(Home.this.handleLogin); d.setButton(Dialog.BUTTON_NEUTRAL,"Sign in",msg); break; ... } return d; } Then I setup the Handler handleLogin: private Handler handleLogin= new Handler(){ /* (non-Javadoc) * @see android.os.Handler#handleMessage(android.os.Message) */ @Override public void handleMessage(Message msg) { String input = usernameInput.getText().toString(); //this should hold the EditText field for the username } }; which is just a stub up to now. what I don't get is when and where I have to access the two fields since I tried to save a reference to them but unfortunately I always get a null pointer exception. Can anyone tell me what I do wrong and give some guidelines to work with custom dialogs. Thanks in advance! :)

  • Android Custom Adapter with Bar Progress

    - by xger86x
    Hi, i have a custom adapter for an arraylist. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="horizontal"> <ProgressBar android:id="@+id/downloadprogress" style="?android:attr/progressBarStyleHorizontal" android:layout_width="200dip" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:max="100" android:progress="50" android:secondaryProgress="75" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/tripsname" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> </LinearLayout> but when i try to access to the progress bar in the adapter private class MyAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<Trip> { int resource; public MyAdapter(Context context, int resource, ArrayList<Trip> items) { super(context, resource,items); this.resource=resource; } @Override public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { LinearLayout tripListItemView; final Trip t = getItem(position); String name = t.getName(); boolean offline = t.isOffline() ; if(convertView==null) { tripListItemView = new LinearLayout(getContext()); String inflater = Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE; LayoutInflater vi; vi = (LayoutInflater)getContext().getSystemService(inflater); vi.inflate(resource, tripListItemView, true); } else { tripListItemView = (LinearLayout) convertView; } setProgressBarVisibility(true); View v = findViewById(R.id.downloadprogress); ProgressBar progressHorizontal = (ProgressBar) findViewById(R.id.downloadprogress); it always return null, like it doesn't find the progress bar. However, the progress bar is shown in the list, but i need to access to it inside the adapter. Anybody knows the solution? Thanks

  • Inflated ImageView to put in GalleryView isn't the right size

    - by Richard
    I am trying to inflate an ImageView that scales a Drawable that I can display in a GalleryView. My code to inflate the view seems to work fine, except that the attributes of the ImageView are not applied. Specifically, the inflated ImageView does not have the width/height that I set for it via the android:layout params in XML. Can someone show me what I'm doing wrong? I want to set the width/height of the image in dp, so that it is the correct size across multiple screen dpis and support Android 1.5+. As a result I cannot use something like: i.setLayoutParams(new Gallery.LayoutParams(150, 116) My layout definition is: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <ImageView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="150dp" android:layout_height="116dp" android:background="@drawable/gallery_item_background" android:scaleType="fitXY" /> </ImageView> And the snippet I am using to inflate the ImageView is: public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { LayoutInflater inflater = getLayoutInflater(); ImageView i = (ImageView) inflater.inflate(R.layout.gallery_item, null); i.setImageResource(mImageIds.get(position)); i.setScaleType(ImageView.ScaleType.FIT_XY); return i; }

    Hi All, I have a ListView specified by list_item.xml Now I need to change the Image in my list inside onListItemClick. How to achieve this? //list_item.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <ImageView android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:src="@drawable/play" android:id="@+id/img" /> <TextView android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:gravity="center_vertical" android:id="@+id/txt" /> </LinearLayout> I have a Custom Adapter to populate my list. Code below is the adapter. public class MyCustomAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<String> { public MyCustomAdapter(Context context, int textViewResourceId, String[] objects) { super(context, textViewResourceId, objects); // TODO Auto-generated constructor stub } @Override public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub LayoutInflater inflater=getLayoutInflater(); View row=inflater.inflate(R.layout.list_item, parent, false); TextView label=(TextView)row.findViewById(R.id.txt); label.setText(Sounds[position]); ImageView icon=(ImageView)row.findViewById(R.id.img); icon.setMaxHeight(32); icon.setMaxWidth(32); icon.setPadding(2, 1, 5, 1); icon.setImageResource(R.drawable.play); return row; } } And in onCreate I do the following @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); try { setListAdapter(new MyCustomAdapter(this, R.layout.list_item, Sounds)); //Sounds --> String array } catch(Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } Now when any row is selected, I need to change the image associated with the selected view.   • findViewById returns null in new Intent

    - by drozzy
    I am having a problem where in the started Intent, the findViewById returns null. Is there anything special I should know about starting a new intent? It goes something like this for me: //in the MainList class Intent stuffList = new Intent(this, StuffList.class); then in the new Stuff's constructor: public class StuffList extends ListActivity { @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); this.setContentView(R.layout.stuff_list); ... this.setListAdapter(new StuffAdapter(this, my_cursor)); and in the StuffAdapter I do my usual view and data retrieval. Note the line where findViewById returns null: class ViewWrapper{ View base; TextView label = null; ViewWrapper(View base){ this.base = base; } TextView getLabel(){ if(label == null){ label = (TextView)base.findViewById(R.id.my_label); // returns NULL } return label;} } class StuffAdapter extends CursorAdapter{ StuffAdapter(Context context, Cursor cursor){ super(context, cursor); } @Override public View newView(Context context, Cursor cursor, ViewGroup parent) { LayoutInflater inflater = getLayoutInflater(); View row = inflater.inflate(R.layout.stuff_list, parent, false); ViewWrapper wrapper = new ViewWrapper(row); row.setTag(wrapper); return(row); } @Override public void bindView(View row, Context context, Cursor cursor) { ViewWrapper wrapper = (ViewWrapper)row.getTag(); TextView label = wrapper.getLabel(); // also NULL //this throws exception of course label.setText(cursor.getString("title")); } } The curious thing is that in the class that calls intent (MainList class), I do Exactly the same thing (i list a bunch of objects), and it Works! however when I try to do it in an Intent - it can't seem to find the view by id.

    I am using XML file for creating Context Menu for my ListView. (Please see below). I also want to set a header for this Context Menu. I read (at http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg43062.html)that I can use menu.setHeaderTitle(myContextMenuTitle) in onCreateContextMenu Method. But I need to set this in XML file. How can I accomplish this? Following is code for onCreateContextMenu Method, correct me if I am doing anything wrong.. This is my context_menu.xml file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <menu xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <item android:id="@+id/open" android:title="Open"/> </menu> This is my onCreateContextMenu Method: @Override public void onCreateContextMenu(ContextMenu menu, View v, ContextMenuInfo menuInfo) { MenuInflater inflater = getMenuInflater(); inflater.inflate(R.menu.context_menu, menu); super.onCreateContextMenu(menu, v, menuInfo); } This is my onCreate Method: @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); // extras = getIntent().getExtras(); registerForContextMenu(getListView()); ... }

  • Runnable to be run every second only runs once in Fragment onCreateView()

    - by jul
    I'm trying to update the time in a TextView with a Runnable supposed to be run every second. The Runnable is started from a Fragment's onCreateView(), but it's only executed once. Anybody can help? Thanks public class MyFragment extends Fragment { Calendar mCalendar; private Runnable mTicker; private Handler mHandler; TextView mClock; String mFormat; private boolean mClockStopped = false; @Override public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) { RelativeLayout view = (RelativeLayout) inflater.inflate(R.layout.meteo_widget, container, false); /* * Clock (from DigitalClock widget source) */ mClock = (TextView) view.findViewById(R.id.clock); mCalendar = Calendar.getInstance(); mHandler = new Handler(); mTicker = new Runnable() { public void run() { if(mClockStopped) return; mCalendar.setTimeInMillis(System.currentTimeMillis()); mClock.setText(DateFormat.format("hh:mm:ss", mCalendar)); mClock.invalidate(); long now = SystemClock.uptimeMillis(); long next = now + (1000 - now % 1000); mHandler.postAtTime(mTicker, next); } }; mTicker.run(); return view; } @Override public void onResume() { super.onResume(); mClockStopped = true; } @Override public void onPause() { mClockStopped = false; super.onPause(); } }

  • Do not get the rootLayoutContainer in a Fragment (Android 3.0 Preview)

    - by Hawk66
    Hello, I'm currently getting into the fragment API of the Android 3.0 Preview and have built the following minimal coding: I have an Activty, which shall embed Fragment(s), which is currently implemented like this: public class Cockpit extends Activity { /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.cockpit); } public static class InfoFragment extends Fragment { @Override public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) { // Inflate the layout for this fragment ViewGroup infoFragmentRoot = (ViewGroup) getActivity().findViewById( R.id.infoFragmentRoot) ; return inflater.inflate(R.id.infoFragment, container, false); } } } The corresponding layout of the activity: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" > <fragment android:name="test.android.ui.cockpit.Cockpit$InfoFragment" android:id="@+id/infoFragment" android:layout_weight="1" android:layout_width="10dp" android:layout_height="match_parent" > <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" android:padding="12dp" android:id="@+id/infoFragmentRoot" > <TextView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="@string/hello" /> </LinearLayout> </fragment> Now, I do not understand why the ViewGroup container in the onCreateView() in the internal class InfoFragment is a nullpointer, nor do I understand, why ViewGroup infoFragmentRoot = (ViewGroup) getActivity().findViewById( R.id.infoFragmentRoot) ; returns also null. Thanks for feedback.

  • How to manage lifecycle in a ViewGroup-derived class?

    - by Scott Smith
    I had a bunch of code in an activity that displays a running graph of some external data. As the activity code was getting kind of cluttered, I decided to extract this code and create a GraphView class: public class GraphView extends LinearLayout { public GraphView(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) { super(context, attrs); LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater) context.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); inflater.inflate(R.layout.graph_view, this, true); } public void start() { // Perform initialization (bindings, timers, etc) here } public void stop() { // Unbind, destroy timers, yadda yadda } . . . } Moving stuff into this new LinearLayout-derived class was simple. But there was some lifecycle management code associated with creating and destroying timers and event listeners used by this graph (I didn't want this thing polling in the background if the activity was paused, for example). Coming from a MS Windows background, I kind of expected to find overridable onCreate() and onDestroy() methods or something similar, but I haven't found anything of the sort in LinearLayout (or any of its inherited members). Having to leave all of this initialization code in the Activity, and then having to pass it into the view seemed like it defeated the original purpose of encapsulating all of this code into a reusable view. I ended up adding two additional public methods to my view: start() and stop(). I make these calls from the activity's onResume() and onPause() methods respectively. This seems to work, but it feels like I'm using duct tape here. Does anyone know how this is typically done? I feel like I'm missing something...

  • ListView setOnItemClickListener in ListFragment not working

    - by Siddarth Kaki
    I am developing an app that uses ActionBar tabs to display a list of options through ListFragment. The list (and ListFragment) display without a problem, but the ListView's setOnItemClickListener doesn't seems to work, as nothing happens when an item in the list is clicked. Here's the code for the ListFragment class: package XXX.XXX; public class AboutFrag extends SherlockListFragment { @Override public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) { View view = inflater.inflate(R.layout.aboutfrag, container, false); ListView lv = (ListView) view.findViewById(android.R.id.list); String[] items = new String[] {"About 1", "About 2", "About 3"}; lv.setAdapter(new ArrayAdapter<String>(getActivity(), R.layout.list_item, items)); lv.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() { public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) { switch (position) { case 0: Intent browserIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse("http://google.com")); startActivityForResult(browserIntent, 0); break; case 1: Intent browserIntent2 = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse("http://wikipedia.org")); startActivityForResult(browserIntent2, 0); break; case 2: Intent browserIntent3 = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse("http:/android.com"); startActivityForResult(browserIntent3, 0); break; } } }); return view; } } I'm assuming it does not work because the class returns the view object, so the FragmentActivity can't run the listener code, so does anyone know how to make this work? By the way, I am using ActionBarSherlock. Thanks in advance!!!

  • Android ProgressDialog inside another dialog

    - by La bla bla
    I'm working on a game using AndEngine, and I need to show the users the list of his Facebook friends. I've created my custom Adatper and after the loading finishes everything works great. I have a problem with the loading it self. The ListView is inside a custom dialog, since I don't really know how to create one using AndEngine, So inside this dialog, I'm running an AsyncTask to fetch the friends' info, in that AsyncTask I'm have a ProgressDialog. The problem is, the ProgressDialog shows up behind the dialog that contains the to-be list (which while loading, is just the title). I can see the ProgressDialog "peeking" behind that dialog.. Any Ideas? Here's some code: FriendsDialog.java private ProgressDialog dialog; //Constructor of the AsyncTask public FriendsLoader(Context context) { dialog = new ProgressDialog(context); dialog.setMessage("Please wait..\nLoading Friends List."); } @Override protected void onPreExecute() { dialog.requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE); LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater)context.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); dialog.setView(inflater.inflate(R.layout.loading, null)); dialog.setMessage("Please wait..\nLoading friends."); dialog.show(); } @Override protected void onPostExecute(ArrayList<HashMap<String, Object>> data) { if (dialog.isShowing()) { dialog.dismiss(); } MyAdapter myAdapter = new MyAdapter(context, data); listView = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.list); listView.setAdapter(myAdapter); listView.setOnItemClickListener(new AdapterView.OnItemClickListener() { @Override public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> myAdapter, View myView, int myItemInt, long mylng) { String id = (String) listView.getItemAtPosition(myItemInt); listener.onUserSelected(id); dismiss(); } }); }

    I have listview with custom base adapter. When I populate the list I have to check a boolean in the object I'm populating the listview and if it is true to change the background color of that row. public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { LoginsList entry = listOfLoginsLists.get(position); if (convertView == null) { LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater) context.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); convertView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.lists_row, null); } TextView ListName = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.tvListName); ListName.setText(entry.getListName()); TextView ListDescription = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.tvListDescription); ListDescription.setText(entry.getListDescription()); Button Send = (Button) convertView.findViewById(R.id.bSend); Send.setOnClickListener(this); Send.setTag(entry); RelativeLayout RelLayout = (RelativeLayout) convertView.findViewById(R.id.layoutListsRow); RelLayout.setFocusableInTouchMode(false); RelLayout.setFocusable(false); RelLayout.setOnClickListener(this); RelLayout.setTag(entry); if (entry.isSent()) { RelLayout.setBackgroundColor(Color.parseColor("#4400FF00")); } return convertView; } But this code doesn't work right. When I scroll the list view the rows colors get messed up.

  • Facebook Like-Button - hide count?

    - by piquadrat
    In the setup dialog for the Like-Button, there are only two options for layout: Unfortunately, the numbers for the website of my employer is nowhere near 22'000, so the powers that be have decided that we should not show the number of "likes" until said number is a little more in our favour. As far as I know, I don't have access to the layout of the button through Javascript or CSS (it's in an iframe served by facebook). Are there any other ways to hide the count?

  • Resize UITableViewCell to show image at maximum size

    - by Mike
    I want to show some images and text in a UITableView. But when I add the image to its UITableViewCell it breaks the layout and overlaps with the next Header. How can I set the size of the cell containing the image, so that the layout doesn't get broken? I found some ObjC-Code which suggest this can be done by using heightForRowAtIndexPath, but I couldn't find anything MonoTouch specific.

  • Can't interact with children of an itemRenderer in Flex 4 Gumbo

    - by BlueDude
    I thought this would be pretty easy but I'm running into all sorts of problems with this. I have an ItemRenderer with a an image and two labels. I want to assign separate mouse events to the image and two labels. It seems like the item renderer is treated like a single interactive piece and I haven't found a way to override that. I couldn't even disable the default rollover effect so I had to style the rollOverColor to match my background. Can anyone provide a solution? <s:DataGroup id="browserDataGroup" dataProvider="{model.userBoardList}" verticalCenter="0" left="10" rollOverColor="0x424242" itemRenderer="edu.xxxxx.components.board.BrowserItemRenderer"> <!--itemrenderer code below --> <s:ItemRenderer xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/halo" xmlns:ns="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" buttonMode="true" useHandCursor="true" mouseChildren="true"> <s:states> <s:State name="up"/> <s:State name="over"/> </s:states> <s:layout> <s:VerticalLayout gap="2"/> </s:layout> <s:Group> <ns:Image id="image" source="{data.thumbnail}" addedEffect="Fade" completeEffect="Fade" removedEffect="Fade" width="130" height="89" horizontalCenter="0" verticalCenter="0"/> <s:Rect id="imageRect" width="130" height="89"> <s:stroke> <s:SolidColorStroke color="0xFFFFFF" joints="miter" pixelHinting="true"/> </s:stroke> </s:Rect> </s:Group> <s:Label text="{data.title}" color="0xFFFFFF" fontWeight="bold"/> <s:Group> <s:layout> <s:HorizontalLayout gap="3"/> </s:layout> <s:Label text="Edit" color="0xFFFFFF" click="trace('edit');" textDecoration.up="underline" textDecoration.over="none"/> <s:Label text="|" color="0xFFFFFF"/> <s:Label text="Delete" color="0xFFFFFF" click="trace('delete');" textDecoration.up="underline" textDecoration.over="none"/> </s:Group> </s:ItemRenderer>

  • Android: TabHost

    - by paradroid666
    Hi, I have a question in regards to http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/views/hello-tabwidget.html Lots of issues are already discussed but this example only works for me if I in the onCreate() method do NOT use setContentView(R.layout.main); Why is that? What do I have to do if I want to mix a tab layout with other elements? Thanks. paradroid666
