• Ubuntu 12.4.1 failing in vm both Vbox and Vmware on new HP Envy 4t-1000

  Brand new to Linux, getting frustrated trying to get an environment up with Ubuntu. My primary goal is to learn Linux and Apache/PHP development. I need to keep my Windows OS as main on my machine for work, so i'm trying to virtualize Ubuntu 12.4.1 without luck (many attempts). I have a new HP Envy 4t-1000 with 16gb ram, and 32 gb ssd caching with 500gb spindle hard drive. Graphics card is an Intel HD 3000 with AMD Radeon 7670M. With installing Ubuntu desktop in VBox, I'm getting this result: https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=51939 With VMware workstation 7 (patched), I complete the install of Ubuntu, it reboots, purple desktop briefly flashes then it drops to command line. I bought a beginning Ubuntu book, and it recommends trying to manually configure graphics if this happens. So I tried doing a safe boot holding shift - I get to the first screen (GRUB) loads fine, and I choose recovery mode. After choosing the recovery mode, I get the recovery mode options, and can arrow down to what the book suggests 'Run in fail safe graphic mode.' Once I select this option, I get a black screen with a large white dialogue box, at the top it says "The system is running in low-graphics mode. Your screen, graphics card, and input device settings could not be detected correctly. You will need to configure these yourself." Then there is an ok button way down at the bottom. When I select 'ok' I get a menu for a few options, book recommended 'reconfigure graphics.' When I try this, I get a menu of two options: 1) "Use generic (default) configuration or 2) use backup. I've tried both options several times, hitting ok just refreshes screen and nothing more. Rebooting at this point just goes back to command line as before. I don't know what to do at this point, I've spent too many hours this weekend trying in both VBox and VMware to get Ubuntu going. Isn't there like a very basic graphic display or something I can use to at least get into the desktop? I explored the GRUB some more, and tried to look at the startup and xserver logs - both are blank. No help there I guess? When I try to choose 'Edit the configuration file, then 'ok' screen just refreshes on same menu options, nothing happens. thx for any advice. I really need to focus on learning Linux, Apache and PHP, so perhaps Ubuntu just won't work on my hardware? Any other suggestions? I will need to virtualize - THANKS for any help/advice.

• Can't access some websites using Ubuntu 13.10

  Something's wrong with Ubuntu. Since I've upgraded to 13.10, I can't access some websites for no apparent reason. I've tried everything imaginable to solve this problem : Made sure that MTUs are the same, Disabled IPv6 in both the network manager and used browsers, Deactivated my network keys, DMZed my computer, Used other DNS like Google and OpenDNS, Checked that no firewall was running my computer ... And it's the same result. I even tried to reinstall Ubuntu a couple of times, but no luck. The most annoying thing about it is I can't access wordpress.org! So, there's no way it could be an ISP restriction of some kind. When I use a VPN, I can access pretty much anything. I'm really frustrated because I have to use wordpress.org very often. • Android Array Lag?

  I am making a platform game for Android. It is sort of a tile based game. I added bullets and enemies with AI and a bunch of tile types. I created a simple map with no Enemies. Everything was running well and smooth until I shot a bunch of bullets randomly everywhere. A couple of hundreds of bullets later, the FPS lowered. I made a test to find out if the bullets were the problem so I made another simple map with just a tile to stand on and left it for a while. Minutes later, I played around with it a bit to check if the FPS changed and it didnt. I reloaded the same map and shot a lot of bullets. Minutes later, the FPS was visibly lower even after the number of bullets were zero. • Simulate 'Shock absorbtion' with tire rubber in PhysX (2.8.x)

  This is a kinda tricky question and I fear there is no easy enough solution, but I figured I'd hit SE up before giving up on it and just doing what I can. A machine I am working on has no suspension or shocks or springs of any sort in the real machine, so you would think that when it drives over bumps, it would shake like crazy but because its tires (6 of them) are quite large they seem to absorb a lot of shock from the bumps. Part of this is because the machine is around 30k lbs and it just smashes/compresses any bumps in the ground down (This is another issue im still working on) and the other part is that the tires seem to have a lot of flex to them with a lot of air as well. So my current task is to simulate shock absorption in physx without visibly separating the tires from the spindle/axle.. I have been messing with all kinds of NxMaterial, NxSpring, Joints, etc. and have had no luck getting this to work. The main problem is that the spindle attached to the tire is directly in the center and the axle is basically solidly attached to the chassis, so if i give it any spring or suspension travel, that spindle on the tires will move upwards or downwards, looking very odd because now its not any longer in the center of the tire. I tried giving it a higher restitution but that just makes it bouncy without any shock absorption. Another avenue I am messing with is to actively smooth the terrain in front of the tires so that before it hits a bumpy patch, that patch is smoothed and it doesn't bounce. The only issue with this is that it is pretty expensive to do with 6 tires, high tesselation of the terrain and other complex things going on at the same time in this simulation. I am still working on this but I am hoping to mix and match a few different aspects to get the best possible outcome. This is a bit of a complex issue so I'm not expecting anyone to have a definitive answer, just hoping someone may think of something I haven't =-) -Side note: Yes i know PhysX 2.8.x is quite outdated but we have to stick with it for this implementation. We are in the process of going to another physics engine but it is out of scope to apply that engine to this project.

• Collision disturbing the jumping mechanic in java 2D game [on hold]

  So I have been working on a 2D Java game recently and everything was going smoothly, until I reached a problem to do with the players jumping mechanic. So far I've got the player to jump a fixed rate and fall due to gravity. • Help recovering broken OS (permissions issue)

  (At the bottom there is an important update.) I was doing experiments in order to backup a remote account to my local system, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I'm not confident with duplicity and probably, due to wrong syntax, some local files have been replaced with remote files. This is just a supposition, I'm not sure this is the real cause of OS corruption. The corruption happened after experimenting with backups, so I think I did something wrong at this regard. I was aware there was a problem when I tried to access a command using sudo: $ sudo ls sudo: unable to open /etc/sudoers: Permission denied sudo: no valid sudoers sources found, quitting sudo: unable to initialize policy plugin This is how /etc/sudoers looks like: $ ls -ald /etc/sudoers -r--r----- 1 root root 788 Oct 2 18:30 /etc/sudoers At this point I tried to reboot and now this is the message I get: The system is running in low graphics mode. Your screen, graphics card and input device settings could not be detected correctly. You will need to configure these yourself. I tried to follow the wizard to configure these settings, but without luck (the system prevents me going on when I press "Next"). The thing that makes me a bit less worried is that all the data on the disk seems readable and I'm able to access them using a live cd. I run memtest and RAM seems to be OK. Do you have any idea about how to recover my system? I'm very glad to provide further information, just let me know what info could be helpful. UPDATE. The issue is about wrong permissions and this is how I discovered: I mounted the root partition of the broken OS on /mnt/broken/ (live CD) and did ls /mnt/broken/. I got a permission denied error, while I expected to have the directory listing. I had to do sudo ls /mnt/broken/ and this worked. Thus without having root permission via sudo it's impossible to access the root of broken os. The current output of ls -ld /mnt/broken/ is: drwxr-x--- 29 1000 812 4096 2012-12-08 21:58 /mnt/broken Any thoughts on how to restore the old (working) set of permissions?

• how did Google Analytics kill my site?

  Yesterday I created a google analytics profile for one of my sites and included the JS block in the layout template. What happened next was very strange. Within about 2 minutes, the site had become unreachable. I had been checking the AWStats page for the site when I thought to set up GA. After that had been done, I clicked on the link for 404 stats, which opens in a new tab. It churned for a long while and then showed a nearly blank page, similar to that when Firefox chokes on a badly-formatted XML page, except there was no error msg. But i was logged into the server and could see that that page has a 401 Transitional DTD. Strange! I tried viewing source but it just churned endlessly. I then tried "inspect element" and was able to see an error msg having to do with some internal Firefox lib. Unfortunately, i neglected to copy that. :-( All further attempts to load anything on the site would time out. Firebug's Net panel showed no request being made. Chrome would time out. So, I deleted the GA profile, removed the JS block, and cleared the server cache. No joy. I then removed all google cookies and disabled JS. Still nothing. No luck in any other browser. And now my client couldn't access the site. Terrific. I was able use wget while logged into another server. The retrieved page was fine, and did not contain the GA JS block. However, the two servers are on the same network. (Perhaps a clue.) The server itself was fine. Ping, traceroute looked great. I could SSH in. I tailed the access log and tried a browser request. Nothing. But i forgot to quit and a minute or so later I saw a request from someone else being logged. Later, I could see that requests had been served all day to some people. Now, 24 hours later, the site works once again, but is still unreachable by the client (who is in another city). So, does anyone have some insight into what's going on? Does this have something to do with google's CDN? I don't know very much about how GA works but what I'm seeing reminds me of DNS propagation issues. And why the initial XML error? And why the heck was the site just plain unreachable? What did google do to my site?! Sorry for the length but I wanted to cover everything.

• Laptop freezes and seems to crash, but continues working after waiting for a few minutes [closed]

  I've had this old notebook laying around and because i was missing a second machine (My wife usually steals the first ;) ) I considered installing Linux. As a php developer I work with Linux servers (usually fedora) on a daily basis and because its an older machine that I want to use for development, linux seemed the best option. Speedwise I expected a good experience, better than Windows 7 on the same machine. The results where terrible. I tried ubuntu 12.04. The shell never got past showing the background. The system doesn't freeze since the mouse still works and I can use ctrl+alt+f2 etc to enter terminal mode. I expected hardware problems en even exchanged the harddisk en Ram memory. No luck though, so I started over and tried 11.10 Same results so I tried 10.04.4 which did install properly. Not sure if unity was the problem, but it seems likely. But then I tried simply things like surfing on the net, the system frooze and I thought it crashed so after a few minutes I pulled the plug and rebooted. But it happened again and I waited. After a few minutes the system came back to life like nothing happened. Long story short. Besides the fact that the entire interface is very sluggish, any and all graphical functions freezes the system. The more elaborate the animation would be, the longer it freezes. I switch chromium from window to fullscreenmode and had to wait 15 minutes to continue. I don't see the animation that's probably supposed to be in between. It just freezes and then after unfreezing its fullscreen. I don't think its a bug. I suspect the problem is with my graphics card. Like I said, its and old system. So old that I can't even find the original Ati drivers anywere. (I'll post the details of my system at the end of my post) I'm at a loss as to what to do next. I tried other Distro's. So far only dreamlinux works normally. Linux Mint won't start as a live CD. I think I simply need a driver update but I can't find them anywhere. Does anyone have the same experience ? • QNTC and Windows Server 2008 R2

  I am having a really hard time getting an iSeries (AS/400) machine talking to my new Windows Server 2008 R2 box using the QNTC file system on the iSeries. I had similar problems getting it to initially talk to a Windows Server 2003 machine, but enabling the local Guest account on the 2003 box solved that one. No such luck with the new 2008 box. When I do a WRKLNK /QNTC/SVR01 on the iSeries (which should show share listings, and does on any 2003 boxes) all I get is (Cannot find object to match specified name.). I know the iSeries likes the same username and password on the remote server, but unfortunately for us this is not the case. Anyhow, it does currently work with different username/password combinations on a 2003 box. To try and get the wretched things talking, I have made the 2008 server pretty open but the iSeries will not see shares on it. I have enabled the local Guest account, turned Windows firewall off, set the share permissions so Everyone has full control but to no avail. I read something on the internet about the iSeries only being able to handle NTLM authentication (and I understand by default that Server 2008 R2 only uses NTLMv2 and has NTLM disabled), so I made a special group policy for the server and tweaked all Group Policy settings under Computer Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options but the iSeries STILL won't see it. We have a team of programmers who do all the system administration of the iSeries, but they are stumped for ideas on their side, and I'm stumped for ideas on my side. This is driving me crazy now, and if anybody has managed to get an iSeries to talk to Windows Server 2008 R2 using QNTC I would be very appreciative of any suggestions, be it on the Windows side, iSeries settings or even IBM PTF's that might patch anything. The iSeries is running V5R4 and I have *SECOFR privileges on it, if it helps. One final (most important!) note - The programmers think it's my system being tricky, and I think it's theirs - please prove me right :)

• Networking stopped working on Ubuntu

  I installed Ubuntu 10.04 through the Wubi installer (Funny, I installed it today and thought I would have gotten 10.10). I had a network connection and everything was working fine. I rebooted my coumputer a couple of times and then suddenly, I could not connect to the network and when I click the wireless/networking icon it says "Networking Disabled". I reinstalled Ubuntu and the problem went away. After a few reboots the problem returned. I have tried restarting to see if it would come back as well as a few other things listed below. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Tried to restart networking via /etc/init.d/networking: amato@ubuntu:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart * Reconfiguring network interfaces... • How to install Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W to Windows 7 64-bit?

  I recently switched to Windows 7 (Home Pro, 64-bit) to discover that my Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer no longer works. When connected, Win7 prompts that it can not install a driver for the device. I have done a lot of googling to solve this problem, with no luck so far. From Konica Minolta official website, I can find drivers only for Windows XP/2000. My current reasoning is that they currently don't and most likely are not going to support Win7 let alone 64-bit version of it for this rather old printer. So my question is: does anyone have any good tips on how to make this printer work on my system? Is there any other place I could look for drivers, or in generally, do you know any workarounds that could let me printer work? One of the workaround I have been considering is to install a Windows XP / Ubuntu Linux on a virtualbox and use that system when I really really need to printer. This is of course not the optimal solution, but would let me possibly to use the printer until I buy a newer model.

• VLC (Server) re-stream Security Camera Feed

  I purchased a Swann Home Security DVR system and was hoping for some help on how to duplicate the streaming video on my server. In order to get their web view (streaming video in the browser) to work, I had to install the following plugins: HiDvrPlugin.dmg for mac. Hidvrocx.cab for Windows. I was originally thinking it was a sign of some form of DRM? Maybe. Maybe not. HTML wise, the following code is in the source of the safari version of the web view: <embed pluginspage="SurveilClient.dmg" width="10px" height="10px" type="application/x-scplugin" id="MacDiv" style="height: 592px; width: 720px; left: 278px; top: 61px; "> It seems to be the main display area. Using wireshark, I am able to see that the video stream is on port 9000. However, I have no idea what type of stream it is. I've tried opening it in VLC with no such luck. http://dvr_ip:9000 tcp://dvr_ip:9000 My hope was to do the following to redistribute the feed vlc dvr_ip:9000 --sout h264-version-on-localhost:3000 TLDR; Trying to re-distribute a stream from a security camera (can't tell the format) using vlc (re-distribute via h.264 / HTML5). • Lotus NotesSQL Driver - cannot install

  Hi all, I need to install Lotus NotesSQL Driver (current version is 8.5) onto a virtual machine running XP. Here's what's I've done so far: I retrieved the file (CZOWFEN.zip) from the IBM website. I ran the exe. I then went to My Computer-Properties-Advanced-Environmental Settings-System Variables-Path and added "; c:\notessql" so the ODBC administrator could find Notes.ini (why the setup file didn't do this in the first place, i don't know). I opened up the ODBC administrator and tried to add a new System DSN to a Lotus DB. "The setup routines for the Lotus Notes SQL Driver (*.nsf) ODBC driver could not be loaded due to system error code 126" I redownloaded and reinstalled the driver (making sure I had the latest version 8.5). No luck. I checked the registry. All the file paths appeared to be correct. Per many, many similar cases on the internet, I tried several different variations of adding the various Lotus Notes folders to my PATH variables. Same error. I've done this setup on 5 different machines now with no problem. The only difference here is that this machine is virtual. Ideas?

  I've installed freeSSHd on a Windows Server 2008 box (following the instructions in How to install an SSH Server in Windows Server 2008), including: created a user named "dspitzer" with NTLM authorization opened an exception for port 22 in the Windows Firewall But when I try to connect (from a Mac OS X 10.5.8 command-line), I get permission denied after entering the password: $ ssh 12.34.56.78 [email protected]'s password: Permission denied, please try again. [email protected]'s password: Permission denied, please try again. [email protected]'s password: Received disconnect from 12.34.56.78: 2: Too many attempts. I've also tried: $ ssh [email protected] [email protected]'s password: Permission denied, please try again. [email protected]'s password: Permission denied, please try again. [email protected]'s password: Received disconnect from 12.34.56.78: 2: Too many attempts. I've also tried changing the authorization to "Password stored as SHA1 hash" and entering a simple password, but I get the same problem. And I've tried a different user name ("Administrator") with no luck. I've confirmed that I am connecting to the server I'm configuring—if I stop freeSSHd and try to connect I get: $ ssh 12.34.56.78 ssh: connect to host 12.34.56.78 port 22: Operation timed out I get the exact same results from a Linux command-line. Any advice or troubleshooting tips? Update: I tried disabling the firewall (in response to geeklin's comment) and it made no difference. Update #2: I no longer have this machine (I've changed employers), so I have no way of verifying the answers. I guess all I can do is make this question "community wiki".

  Hi all, I am gathering performance data via WMI and would like to avoid having to use an account in the Administrators group for this purpose. The target machine is running Windows Server 2003 with the latest SP/updates. I've done what I believe to be the appropriate configuration to allow our user access to WMI (similar to what is described here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa393266.aspx). Here are the specific steps that were followed: Open Administrative Tools - Computer Management: Under Computer Management (Local) Expand Services and Applications, right click WMI Control and select properties. In the Security tab, expand Root, highlight CIMV2, click Security (near bottom of window); add Performance Monitor Users and enable the options : Enable Account and Remote Enable. ­Open Administrative Tools - Component Services: Under Console Root go to Component Services- Computers - Right click My Computer and select properties, select the COM security tab, in “Access Permissions” click "Edit Default" select(or add then select) “Performance Monitor Users” group and allow local access and remote access and click ok. In “Launch and Activation Permissions” click “Edit Default” select(or add then select) “Performance Monitor Users” group and allow Local and Remote Launch and Activation Permissions. ­Open Administrative Tools - Component Services: Under Console Root go to Component Services- Computers - My Computer - DCOM Config - highlight “Windows Management and Instrumentation” right click and select properties, Select the Security tab, Under “Launch and Activation Permissions” select Customize, then click edit, add the “Performance Users Group” and allow local and remote Remote Launch and Remote Activation privileges. • Graphics card not working but integrated graphics is working

  I have a PCIe Geforce 6600 that I've been using in my PC for a couple years now without problems. Recently though I've not been using the PC and had it unplugged. When I when to use it again I accidentally plugged in the monitor to the VGA port for the integrated graphics instead of the 6600 card VGA port and began using it again (I'm currently running Windows 7). I then realized that I had the monitor plugged in wrong and switched the monitor to the 6600 port. Unfortunately I cannot get it to work. When the monitor is plugged in to the 6600 port the monitor will not display anything; not when booting up or in Windows (so I don’t believe the problem is Windows related). I've even tried booting a live CD for Ubuntu to see if that will recognize the card but no luck. Somehow it seems I need to "turn off" the integrated graphics and instruct the PC to use the 6600 card but I'm at a loss for how to do that. I looked high and low in the BIOS for a setting to do this but cannot find anything at all. I have a MSI motherboard and AMI Bios. Any ideas?

• MultiView 2000 terminal emulator not printing correctly to Generic/Text Printer on Windows 7

  Guys & gals, Hope someone can shed some light on this. I am downloading reports from an AIX-based system by directing them to a TT printer which the terminal emulator (MultiView 2000) intercepts and directs to the default printer on the local system. This local printer is configured as a vanilla Generic/Text printer attached to a FILE port. When I print from AIX, the output is spooled down and the local printer prompts for a file name into which to save the file...but not under Windows 7. This has worked fine for many years, on both Win2K and WinXP. However, on Windows 7 the output gets spooled as a file into spool\PRINTERS (and looks as expected) but the print job then hangs with a status of "Error - Printing" and never prompts for a file name. I have to cancel the job. The Generic/Text printer works as expected with other applications. I have tried setting the printer to print directly rather than spooling but this only serves to hang the terminal session too. I've also tried to run the emulator in Windows 2000 Compatibility Mode and as Administrator in case it was something like that but with no luck. As you might expect, it does work fine in XP Mode (as long as I print to a printer defined therein and not the host's printer) but operationally this isn't going to be an option. Obviously this emulation software is a decade old (at least) and I could just cross/upgrade all the users (at a cost) but, before I do so, has anyone seen this sort of behaviour before and found some sort of fix? • Extract Key and Certificate from Kemp Loadmaster?

  I'm trying very hard to get away from a set of Kemp Loadmasters that I bought years ago to provide HA access to our website. Part of that process is going to be putting the key and certificate in the new solution (HAproxy with nginx doing SSL). Unfortunately, I've come up against a problem... The Kemp has built-in certificate management, and it generates CSR's at the touch of a button. It also supported importing of signed certificates, however it does not, so far as I can tell, allow any kind of export of the key itself. There is a "backup key and certificates" ability, however here's the text from the manual: LoadMaster supports exporting of ALL certificate information. This includes private key, host and intermediate certificates. The export file is designed to be used for import into another LoadMaster and is encrypted. Export and import can be completed using the WUI at Certificates -> Backup/Restore Certs. Please make sure to note the pass phrase used to create the export, it will be required to complete the import. You can selectively resort only Virtual Service certificates including private keys, intermediate certificates or both. Well, that is great, but as for actually DEALING with the certs, I'm apparently out of luck. Of course, I'm not going to give up that easily. I ran "file" on the saved cert bundle and got this: $ file client1.certs.backup client1.certs.backup: gzip compressed data, from Unix Well, awesome, I thought. Maybe it's just a .tar.gz, so I unzipped it, and that went fine, but my attempts to untar it didn't work, and running "file" on it now just gives this: $ file client1.certs.backup client1.certs.backup: data So that's where I'm stuck. Anyone have experience with these?

  I am using the net.tcp protocol for various web services. When I reboot my Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) macbook pro, the service never restarts automatically, even though that is how they are set: The only relevant events I can see are in the System Event Log: Error 6/9/2011 19:47 Service Control Manager 7001 None The Net.Tcp Listener Adapter service depends on the Net.Tcp Port Sharing Service service which failed to start because of the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." Error 6/9/2011 19:47 Service Control Manager 7000 None The Net.Tcp Port Sharing Service service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." Error 6/9/2011 19:47 Service Control Manager 7009 None A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the Net.Tcp Port Sharing Service service to connect. This post suggests that it's something else blocking the port (in the post it's SCCM 2007 R3 Client which I don't use). What else could be the problem? If it's something else blocking the port, how do I figure out what? When I manually start the services, they start correctly. Dependencies are: Net.Tcp Port Sharing Service Net.Tcp Listener Adapter Still no luck, but I think the problem might be that my network connection takes too long to come up. I put in a custom view of the event log, and found these items: The first in the series says: A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the Net.Tcp Port Sharing Service service to connect.

• Configure Postfix to send/relay emails Gmail (smtp.gmail.com) via port 587

  Hi. Using Centos 5.4, with Postfix. I can do a mail [email protected] subject: blah test . Cc: and the msg gets sent to gmail, but it resides in the spam folder, which is to be expected. My goal is to be able to generate email msgs, and to have them appear in the regular Inbox! As I understand Postfix/Gmail, it's possible to configure Postfix to send/relay mail via the authenticated/valid user using port 587, which would no longer have the mail be seen as spam. I've tried a number of parameters based on different sites/articles from the 'net, with no luck. Some of the articles, actually seem to conflict with other articles! I've also looked over the stacflow postings on this, but i'm still missing something... Also talked to a few people on IRC (Centos/Postfix) and still have questions.. So, i'm turning to Serverfault, once again! If there's someone who's managed to accomplish this, would you mind posting your main.cf, sasl-passwd, and any other conf files that you use to get this working! If I can review your config files, I can hopefully see where I've screwed up, and figure out how to correct the issue. • Lenovo Mini Wireless Keyboard N5901: Remap orange "My Computer" button

  I have a Lenovo Mini Wireless Keyboard N5901 (a.k.a. Part No. 57Y6336) that I'm using with an HTPC running Windows 7. The remote comes with an orange button in the top-left corner that by default, when pressed, opens the Windows "My Computer" window. I would like to remap / reprogram this button to act like the green "Windows Media Center" button instead on a Windows Media Center (WMC) remote; that is, open Windows Media Center if it isn't already open, or go to the WMC homepage if WMC is already open. I've tried several keyboard-remapping utilities (as recommended in other, more general "how to remap keyboard key?" SuperUser.com questions) including SharpKeys, Key Mapper, and KeyTweak, with no luck so far. None of these utilities recognize the orange button -- they all do recognize that some key was pressed, but display a value for the key of "unsupported" or something similar. I was able to use a utility called Keyboard Scan Code Generator to determine that a press of the orange button has a KeyData value of 16777217 (0x1000001), and a "Virtual Code" value of 182. (The other "media" buttons on the N5901 have the same KeyData value, but different Virtual Code values). I'm not sure at this point where in Windows this keystroke is being interpreted as a command to open "My Computer." There is no special software / driver for this device; it worked out of the box with Windows 7, no special driver install necessary. Is there any way to accomplish this?
