• Unable to SSH into EC2 instance on Fedora 17

  I did following steps But I am not able to SSH to it(Same steps work fine on Fedora 14 image). I am getting Permission denied (publickey,gssapi-keyex,gssapi-with-mic) I created new instance using fedora 17 amazon community image(ami-2ea50247).   I've just compiled a web stack on Solaris 10. This is a fairly standard Apache 2 / MySQL 5 / PHP 5 stack with all the most recent stable versions. I dropped phpMyAdmin on the server and set up httpd.conf to get that online. When I browse to the page, login fails, and a persistent message appears beneath the login form: The mcrypt extension is missing. Please check your PHP configuration. However, I compiled PHP with the --with-mcrypt flag. A file, info.php: <?php phpinfo(); ?> shows that mcrypt support is enabled. Running: php -m on the command line shows that mcrypt is loaded. Google hasn't been much help, and I was hoping someone around these parts could throw some help my way. If I need to provide any further detail, please let me know what you need to know.

• anyone doing php-fpm and APC? cache files missing in /tmp

  I have been using xcache for a long time. Recently I put together php-fpm and nginx. I see apc is installed and enabled in the configuration. I was assuming that apc will automatically opcode the files and store it somewhere. According to config it should be in /tmp/apx.xxxx but there is no such thing there. What am i missing? any clues to investigate would be of much help. Please note I am using php 5.3 fpm. thanks mates. UPDATE: i looked at apc.php it says things are fine. will just have to take its word for it.

• Using in app purchase to unlock features vs. using free & paid app versions for iPhone

  I have an app that I was going to release as a free (lite) version with some of the total functionality and a paid full version with advanced functionality. Now, with in app purchase for free apps I am thinking of going that route with the ability to unlock features as needed. I'm not talking about a trial version that expires.I want people to be able to try out the app and get an idea of the interface and functionality before deciding to purchase the full functionality of each major section of the app, basically. Here's an analogy of what my app would be like. Let's say you have a cooking app that teaches you to cook in different styles. There could be major section for French, Italian, and Chinese. Each section could have some rudiments unlocked in the free app so users can see the UI and basics of the functionality. Then, the user could decide to purchase each major section (or not) individually with in app purchase or buy the full versioned app (with the free/paid model). One concern I have with offering a free app with in app purchase would be with feedback. I would be very clear in my description in the app store that there is in app purchase for full features but I'm worried that less serious users could/would leave negative feedback. I suppose that's always a risk but curious about any experience with this. It also seems that it could be a whole lot more complicated keeping track of what portions of the app are locked and unlocked with in app purchase. I know I'd have to have all the code for the full functionality and "lock" the portions that haven't been purchased. How do people usually lock portions of their code? I'm not talking about the process of purchasing (I've read the In App Purchase Programming Guide) but after the purchase has been made. Would I just keep track of what the user has purchased and put conditionals on the sections that are initially locked? Or is there another way to do this as well? My instinct is for the in app purchase (particularly since users could purchase the major sections that they want individually).

  Background: running ubuntu So I downloaded the python "install from source" tarball. I ran make and got this error message: Python build finished, but the necessary bits to build these modules were not found: _aaa _bbb _ccc ... _jjj _kkk I google'd and found one solution is to: MANUALLY map all the string names from the error message to something in the apt-get repo MANUALLY call "sudo apt-get AAA BBB ... JJJ KKK" to get all the libraries I can easily do all of that. But I have no way of knowing what is the right version libraries I need to get! How in the world am I supposed to fix the missing dependencies if I don't know what the exact missing dependency is?

I pinned an .xls document to Calc, but when I click on the shortcut I get the following error: soffice.bin - System Error The program can't start because sal3.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem. I got the same error when I pinned a .txt file to Writer. I tried repairing Open Office, as suggested by the error, but that didn't fix the problem. • Why /home folder is missing from my backup archive created by tar?

  So I'm doing full backup of my VPS using the following command (as root, of course): tar czvf 20120604.tar.gz / Everything seems to be fine, all files seem to appear in the list. The size of archive is 6 Gb and gunzipped version is 11 Gb which includes /home, because I totally have 11 Gb of data on VPS. But when I try actually to unpack archive, or open it using mc or WinRAR, there's no /home folder. And WinRAR tells 20120604.tar.gz - TAR+GZIP archive, unpacked size 894 841 346 bytes. It can't be WinRAR's bug, because when I type tar xzvf 20120604.tar.gz, /home folder isn't unpacked either. Why is /home folder missing from my archive? And what can I do to include it there? tar --version outputs the following: tar (GNU tar) 1.15.1

  I am using Fedora 12, the problem i am facing is USB 2.0 write speed. I have a dual boot system with Window XP and Fedora 12. USB 2.0 write speed in Windows XP is much faster then what i am getting in Fedora 12. After some googling i came to know that ehci_hcd module is missing/not present in my system. ehci_hcd module is neither loaded nor it is present in the available list of modules. Can someone guide me how to fix this issue? Is ehci_hcd have something to do with USB 2.0 write speed or? Should i have to recompile the kernel and add/enable he ehci_hcd module?

  What are the best strategies for finding that missing semicolon that's causing the error? Are there automated tools that might help. I'm currently using Visual Studio 2008, but general strategies for any environment would be interesting and more broadly useful. Background: Presently I have a particularly elusive missing semicolon (or brace) in a C++ program that is causing a C2143 error. My header file dependencies are fairly straightforward, but still I can't seem to find the problem. Rather than post my code and play Where's Wally (or Waldo, depending on where you're from) I thought it would be more useful to get some good strategies that can be applied in this and similar situations. As a side-question: the C2143 error is showing up in the first line of the first method declaration (i.e. the method's return type) in a .cpp file that includes only its associated .h file. Would anything other than semicolons or braces lead to this behaviour?

• Why do certain replied emails missing threading when replied back in Mutt?

  I use Mutt for emails. I have threads enabled and I can see that most of the emails are threaded in Mutt. So that is all good. But sometimes I reply to an email and the answer(from other person) to my replied email wont be part of any threads. The thing is that when I reply in Mutt (which I use Vim to edit them), the subject parts keeps getting longer and longer with many "Re"s. That is the case with those emails with missing threads. I have: set strict_threads="yes" set sort="threads" set edit_headers=yes I am wondering if this has anything to do with Mutt or the person I am communicating over email.
