  • Easy way for Crystal Reports to MS SQL Server Reporting Services conversion

    Is there a way to easily convert Crystal Reports reports to Reporting Services RDL format? We have quite a few reports that will be needing conversion soon. I know about the manual process (which is basically rebuilding all your reports from scratch in SSRS), but my searches pointed to a few possibilities with automatic conversion "acceleration" with several consulting firms. (As described on http://www.microsoft.com/sql/technologies/reporting/partners/crystal-migration.mspx). Do any of you have any valid experiences or recomendations regarding this particular issue? Are there any tools around that I do not know about?

    I have a load of tables all with the same 2 datetime columns (lastModDate, dateAdded). I am wondering if I can set up global Insert Update trigger for these tables to set the datetime values. Or if not, what approaches are there? Any pointers much appreciated

    Hi, I have an embedded HTML resource (helloworld.htm) inside my Visual Studio project. (Ie, I've added an HTML file to the project and set its properties to "Embedded Resource". Within the same application I have a WebBrowser control. I'd like to direct the WebBrowser control to display the HTML resource using the res:// protocol. But I can't figure out the exact format needed to address an embedded resource using this style of URL. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Programatically opening an xml file in MS Word

    I'm opening an xml file in Microsoft Word 2007 using C#. I'm using an xsl file to define the layout which worked up to the point that I needed to include an image. I used the typical src html tag and the image displays when the xml is viewed in ie but not when it's opened in Word. I get the image place holder so I can only assume Word simply can't find the image. It's sitting next to both the xml file and xsl file but that doesn't make any difference. To open the document I'm passing the filenames for both the xml and xsl. I would imagine that as the src is in the xsl it would just look relative to one of these files. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. [EDIT] Apologies I lost track of this one. I fixed it in the end. I'll check what my solution was tomorrow and update this.

    Hi, I generate an XHTML document and set the Mime type as "application/msword" so it opens in Word. To create a header I appear to have to reference an external file thus: <style> ... @page{mso-footnote-separator:url("**OUT_files/header.htm**") fs; mso-footnote-continuation-separator:url("OUT_files/header.htm") fcs; mso-endnote-separator:url("OUT_files/header.htm") es; mso-endnote-continuation-separator:url("OUT_files/header.htm") ecs;} @page Section1{ mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-header:url("OUT_files/header.htm") h1; } } ... </style> Does anyone know how to reference a div defined within the main XHTML document itself, without having to reference an external file?     I have a huge Excel spreadsheet containing telephone calling rates to a number of different countries. The format of the columns is: Country, RateLocality, Prefixes, Rate, Wholesale e.g. Afganistan, Default, 93;930;931;9321;9322;9323;9324;9325;9326;9327;9328;9329;9331;9332;9333;9334;9335;9336;9337;9338;9339;9341;9342;9343;9344;9345;9346;9347;9348;9349;9351;9352;9353;9354;9355;9356;9357;9358;9359;9361;9362;9363;9364;9365;9366;9367;9368;9369;9371;9372;9373;9374;9376;938;939; $ 1.023, $0.455 These rates change every so often and I need to get them into another system that can import them using CSV. The eventual format is: LD PREPEND CODE ie. 00 or 011,CountryCode,Area Code,Comment,Connect Cost,Included Seconds,Per Minute Cost,Pricelist,Increment So to convert that above line I'd have 00,"Afganistan",93,"Default",1.023,60,1.023,10 00,"Afganistan",931,"Default",1.023,60,1.023,10 ... 00,"Afganistan",939,"Default",1.023,60,1.023,10 Where 00, 60 and 10 are hard coded and merged with the other data from excel. How can I export this data into the required format given that I need to reformat it as it goes. Should I export to XML and use XSLT or some other process to massage the data into CSV? If that is the case, how do I do it simply and quickly.

    Greetings - I am writing an add-in for Expression Web 3 in VS2008 The solution has a Windows Installer setup project in which the ApplicationFolder is tagged to hold some ancillary files. I need to be able to access those files during the add-in's startup, but naturally the Application object as well as the AppDomain reference paths to Expression Web not to the Add-In. There is a tickle in the back of my head that the solution involves reflection but thats as far as I can get... has anyone dealt with this or have any suggestions? Thanks!

  • mscomctl.ocx on my dev machine gives me problems since security patch of MS

    I am busy on this problem since 2 days ago and hope someone can get me out of it. I have Excel 2010 (full install 944Mb) on my Windows 8 computer. It works well. But when I modify my workbook (containing a ListView version 6.0) I am not able to run it on my client's computer. I get the error: Could Not Load An Object. Not Available on This Machine. Even it works well on my dev machine. The reason is: Microsoft applied a Security Patch (near august 2012 I think) on mscomctl.ocx and my Excel 2010 installation files (downloaded not long ago) contains the new version of mscomctl.ocx. The clients using my Excel file don't apply the security patch at this moment. Se everytime I publish my Excel file to client's computers (from my dev environment), I reference the new mscomctl.ocx. That's the problem. I already try to get the old mscomctl.ocx from client's computer and copy & register it on my dev machine but then I got errors (Class not registered, ...) when I create a userform and drag a listview on it. So: mscomctl.ocx on client's machine is version 6.1.98.13 from 2008. mscomctl.ocx on my dev machine is version 6.1.98.34 from 2012. My question: Does someone have an idea how to proceed to have a usable version of mscomctl.ocx on my dev machine? Thank you very much.

    I want to be able to check if I can edit a cell in a database with a new object Example method declaration: something.isValid(Object newObject, row, column); Example cases: If the editing cell stores an Number and I give it a String, the method will return false... If the editing cell has to be different than every other entry and the new object is the same as something else, the method will also return false.... My main goal... I want to check a whole row, and if everything is valid, I will edit the whole row. Right now, the only way I can find out if I can actually edit something is by actually editing it and seeing if I get an error.

    I have a project that uses PageMethods to call functions on the server. The server functions (written in C#) return the values as array of strings, without doing any kind of serialization and in the client side (from Js) the accessing of the return values is by using static variable called arguments. I found that sometimes for some users (cases are not repro) sometimes an exception occured "WebServiceFailedException the server method 'Foo' returned invalid data. the 'd' property is missing from JSON." Some searching on google I found that people are serializing the return values using DataContractJsonSerializer class and in js accessing the return value using one of the callback function Example: function OnRequestComplete(result, userContext, methodName) { var Person = eval('(' + result + ')'); alert(Person.Forename); alert(Person.Surname); } So is the first technique is correct? or what?

    Normally, I would use a PHP webservice to do this, but since the front-end is hosted on a linux box, I need another way to do this (so I don't have to go through the trouble of installing FreeTDS, etc. I will if I have to). Is there a better way to do this? I'm not a web guy, but I'm trying my best.
