• How to set RAILS_ENV in Aptana Rad Rails?

  I'm using Aptana RadRails, and it seems that whenever I do any rake tasks it is using the development environment. How do I tell it to use the production environment? (e.g. db:create sets up my development database. I know I could do a db:create:all, but I'm wondering how to set the environment.) Thanks!

• CPU and profiling not supported for remote jvisualvm session

  When monitoring a remote app (using jstatd) I can neither profile nor monitor cpu consumption. Heap monitoring (provided I do not use G1) works. jvisualvm provides the message "Not supported for this JVM." in the CPU graph window. Is there anything missing in my setup? The google showed up next to no results.   Hello - My production env runs CentOS 5.2 and 5.5 versions. I have to develop a new tool using C/C++ and deploy it on this production env. I was planning to use Fedora 14 on my desktop with GCC 4.4 to do the development with Eclipse IDE. And then later I want to deploy the executables to CentOS 5.2 or 5.5 The production env will have GCC 4.4 as well. Since both Fedora and CentOS are RHEL based, I thought this is possible. So can I do this? Or do I need to have CentOS 5.2/5.5 on my development desktop as well? Thanks Amit

• MSBuild "Wrapper" fails while VS2010 "Pure" compile succeeds for MFC application in CruiseControl.NE

  The Overview I am working on a Continuous Integration build of a MFC appliction via CruiseControl.net and VS2010. When building my .sln, a "Visual Studio" CCNet task (devenv) works, but a wrapper MSBuild script run via the CCNet MSBuild task fails with errors like: error RC1015: cannot open include file 'winres.h'.. error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'afxwin.h': No such file or directory error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'afx.h': No such file or directory The Question How can I adjust the build environment of my msbuild wrapper so that the application builds correctly? (Pretty clearly the MFC paths aren't right for the msbuild environment, but how do i fix it for MSBuild+VS2010+MFC+CCNet?) Background Details We have successfully upgraded an MFC application (.exe with some MFC extension .dlls) to Visual Studio 2010 and can compile the application without issue on developer machines. Now I am working on compiling the application on the CI server environment I did a full installation of VS2010 (Professional) on the build server. In this way, I knew everything I needed would be on the machine (one way or another) and that this would be consistent with developer machines. VS2010 is correctly installed on the CI server, and the devenv task works as expected I now have a wrapper MSBuild script that does some extended version processing and then builds the .sln for the application via an MSBuild task. This wrapper script is run via CCNet's MSBuild task and fails with the above mentioned errors My Assumptions This seems to be a missing/wrong configuration of include paths to standard header resources of the MFC persuasion I should be able to coerce the MSBuild environment to consider the relevant resource files from my VS2010 install and have this approach work. But how do I do that? Am I setting Environment variables? Registry settings? I can see how one can inject additional directories in some cases, but this seems to need a more systemic configuration at the compiler defaults level.

  Hi All, If, as here at work, we have test, staging and production environments, such as: http://test.my-happy-work.com http://staging.my-happy-work.com http://www.my-happy-work.com I am writing some javascript that will redirect the browser to a url such as: http://[environment].my-happy-work.com/my-happy-video I need to be able to determine the current environment that we are in. There is the possibility that I will currently be at a url such as: http://[environment].my-happy-work.com/my-happy-path/my-happy-resource I want to be able to grab the window.location but strip it of everything but: http://[environment].my-happy-work.com And then append to that string + "/" + "my-happy-video". I am not skilled with regex, but I suppose there would be a way to parse the window.location up to the ".com" Thoughts? Thanks!

• Load balance between two virtual directories on a single machine running IIS6

  I'm trying to simulate a production environment using a single VM. The production environment will have 3 servers behind a load balancer with sticky sessions. Production will be using IIS6. For development, I have no need to distribute load, but I want to make sure the team does not write code that relies on a single-server module. I have been hoping to set up two virtual directories and find some isapi filter to perform some rudimentary software load balancing, but I've been unable to locate anything suitable. isapi_rewrite comes close but there's no ability for a random rewrite. I don't even need sticky sessions since the application does not (in theory) rely on them. Is there something easy/free to do this, or am I stuck with multiple VMs and a NLB setup (which seems like total overkill)?

• Redirect email based on Source IP / Hostname

  So, we have a situation where we would like to be able to redirect (ignoring original destination) emails coming through out exchange server (locally sent) to a different email address. The situation is as follows: Testing a new server, this hosts a lot of our custom applications / scheduled tasks (as does the production version of this server). Instead of changing config files / parameters for these applications we'd rather leave them as they are, as we want to be as close to production as possible, however we don't want the emails go to the staff they would normally go to, we'd rather they were sent to a test email address where we are able to confirm the results. The emails look exactly like the production emails (same from / to / cc / bcc) except their source, hence why we'd like to know if the ability to redirect based on hostname exists. Cheers.

  I am trying to use groovy to do shell scripting on unix, but I am not having any luck having one process retain the environment variables changed by another process. For example, def p1 = ["bash", "-c", "source /some/setEnv.sh"].execute() Now, I would like a second process, p2, to inherit the environment variables that was set in p1. How can I do this? I don't see anything in java.lang.Process or its groovy extension that would spit out the environment variables after the process has executed.

• Is there a way to export reports from Microsoft CRM4?

  I'm setting up a proper dev environment for my client (dev/qa/stage/prod). I'd like to find a way to export reports so we can cleanly move from one environment to the next. Custom RDL type reports are easy (just import the RDL in the next environment), but the reports that are built inside CRM don't appear to export anywhere. Am I missing something? Is this another feature that was missed? Apperciate the help.

  Relying on the preprocessor and predefined compiler macros for achieving portability seems hard to manage. What's a better way to achieve portability for a C project? I want to put environment-specific code in headers that behave the same way. Is there a way to have the build environment choose which headers to include? I was thinking that I'd put the environment-specific headers into directories for specific environments. The build environment would then just copy the headers from the platform's directory into the root directory, build the project, and then remove the copies.

• SVN Server not responding

  I've been bashing my head against a wall with this one all day and I would greatly appreciate a few more eyes on the problem at hand. We have an in-house SVN Server that contains all live and development code for our website. Our live server can connect to this and get updates from the repository. This was all working fine until we migrated the SVN Server from a physical machine to a vSphere VM. Now, for some reason that continues to fathom me, we can no longer connect to the SVN Server. The SVN Server runs CentOS 6.2, Apache and SVN 1.7.2. SELinux is well and trully disabled and the problem remains when iptables is stopped. Our production server does run an older version of CentOS and SVN but the same system worked previously so I don't think that this is the issue. Of note, if I have iptables enabled, using service iptables status, I can see a single packet coming in and being accepted but the production server simply hangs on any svn command. If I give up waiting and do a CTRL-C to break the process I get a "could not connect to server". To me it appears to be something to do with the SVN Server rejecting external connections but I have no idea how this would happen. Any thoughts on what I can try from here? • Tunneling HTTP traffic from a particular host/port

  Hello, I'm trying to figure out how to access from my development machine (Devel) to a third party web service (www.domain.com) which I am not allowed to directly contact using my office IP address. Here's a basic diagram (i'm not allowed to post images...): http://yuml.me/diagram/scruffy/class/%5BDevel%5D-%5BA%5D,%20%5BA%5D-%5BB%5D,%20%5BB%5D-%5Bwww.domain.com%5D The only machine allowed to access that service is B (production server) but I do neither can directly access it from my development machine (Devel). So in order to access the web service I have to ssh into A, and then from A to B to access www.domain.com Is there any way of tunneling traffic from B to A and then back to my development machine so I can directly access www.domain.com without having to ssh into every box? • CentOS 6 - YUM Local Repo - Ensure consistent package distribution

  I've read a few guides outlining how to setup a local YUM repo, but none of them explicitly stated an answer to my question; If I set up a local YUM repo, does that mean that any CentOS servers which pull from said repo will never be "ahead" of the local YUM repo? I want to ensure a consistent package distribution across all my servers. Right now, when I do a yum update, even on a daily basis, the servers can be out of alignment. For example if I run YUM update on my dev server in the morning, then run YUM update on one of my production servers in the afternoon, the production server may have picked up a new version of a package that the dev server did not pick up, due to the time window between the update commands. Rather, I'd prefer that I run yum update from my dev server which has access to remote upstream yum repos, then let it sit for 2 weeks, after which I run yum update on my production servers against the local repo on my dev server.

I'm using Python right now for making CGI scripts, and needing to remember to swap my hashbangs when I copy from dev to production is a little annoying (Same issue for SVN updates depending on which server I'm comitting from). Is there a way to configure apache so that I no longer need to hashbangs? Like, if it would lauch python and supply the CGI script for it? Might be a bit of a stretch, but no harm in asking

Unfortunately I am new to AJAX and Web Services and have little idea how to setup unit tests in the browser environment. Unit tests for the server backend I already have done, since I am a pro at that. GXT is not quite pure GWT which provides some unit testing structure. If anyone has a good starting point...

• virtualenv on Windows: not over-riding installed package

  My current setup is Python 2.5/ Django 1.1.1 on Windows. I want to start using Django 1.2 on some projects, but can't use it for everything. Which is just the sort of thing I've got virtualenv for. However, I'm running into a problem I've never encountered and it's hard to Google for: installing Django 1.2 into a virtualenv has no effect for me. If I then activate the environment and do python import django django.VERSION I get "1.1.1 Final". Django is installed in the site-packages directory of my environment and the init file in the root shows that it is 1.2. But the environment falls back to 1.1.1, even if I create the environment with the --no-site-packages flag. What am I screwing up?

• Does a program exist for checking two similar directories for file differences?

  Is there a program to compare one folder and all subfolders to another folder and all subfolders for differences in the files contained therein (presence, absence of files, size and list of filenames)? Example of usage: I have 100 DLL files from environment 1 and I want to check if any of them are different (in size and date modified) from the 100 DLL files in environment 2. So I copy and paste all the DLLs in environment 1 into directory A, and all the DLLs in environment 2 into directory B. I then run my "directory comparison" program on directories A and B and find out that, aha, here is a list of 7 DLLs that have different modified dates and times between the two directories. EDIT: OS is windows XP
