• Exchange MSExchangeIS Mailbox Store Error

  Boss asked me to check to see if I could figure out why he's had to restart the services on the Exchange server three mornings in a row now. While going through the system logs I ran across an error from the MSExchangeIs Mailbox Store, category General, Event 9690. The message said (edited to make generalized): Exchange store 'First Storage Group\Mailbox Store (Servername)': The logical size of this database (the logical size equals the physical size of the .edb file and the .stm file minus the logical free space in each) is 22GB. This database size has exceeded the size limit of 22 GB. This database will be dismounted immediately. Hmm...happened at five in the morning, and I'm thinking this is a pretty good hint that this leads to the culprit. Thing is I'm not an Exchange expert, so I'm still googling around to figure out how to fix the problem. Any better guidance out there? Or am I barking up the wrong binary tree? Exchange System Manager reports that the server is "version 6.5 build 7638.2, SP2", standard, which I believe is Exchange 2003. It's running on Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard, SP2.

• Slow boot for OS and external devices

  I have been having this problem intermittently but as of yesterday, it has become more consistent. It originally started when I rebooted my PC at home and the OS (Windows 8) sat in a loop appearing to do nothing while loading. I figured since this was a new installation, that something may have just become corrupted and I decided to reinstall. So I tried to boot off of the thumb drive which had the installation iso and encountered pretty much the same issue. Same with the DVD drive. So, I rebooted once again and left it to load the entire night just to see if it ever would and sure enough this morning, Windows had finally loaded. Authentication had the same roblem albeit not quite as long (took about 5 minutes to authenticate). However, once I was in, everything appeared to be working fine and as quick as normal with the exception of when I tried to scan the C drive for any errors, which ran unbearably slow (45 minutes and before I left for work and was not finished scanning a 64GB SSD drive). I mention that I have had this issue but never when loading the OS. Before it occurred when trying to install windows 7 from a different DVD drive than the one I have now. It took me about 3 hours to do it since I had to wait sometimes 30+ min for each step to finish processing. Does anyone have an idea as to what can cause this? I am assuming it is the motherboard since it is responsible for communication with all the devices I'm having issues with but I cannot find anyone else who has had a problem like this and don't want to drop more money on a MB if it isn't the problem. • Philips Monitor problems - vertical lines on screen

  I have an old CRT Philips Monitor 17'' and it was working well. There were problems with the electrical power and the monitor started to make some sound and a smoke was getting out of it. I quickly switched it off the power, and in the morning when the power was ok i started the monitor and it appeared to be working and it worked for a couple of minutes when i find out some smell was coming from it, and after 5 minutes the screen i was working shut down and on the monitor some vertical lines appeared - and nothing else. I thought it was the OS, so i rebooted the pc and while it was booting i realized the monitor didn't show the bios info etc, but the same vertical lines on the whole screen were on it, sometimes their color was changing and they were blinking, but no screen appeared - only those vertical lines. After a day, the monitor was ok again - i turned it on and no there were no lines, everything was working fine. The same for the next 2 days. My question is: If anyone had ever had the same problem, can you help me ? THe monitor may be ok now but i am afraid it can get back those lines again. I don't know what to do, if you know please tell me whether should i take it to the service or not. Thank you.

• Windows 7 - User profile corrupted on standby/hibernate

  I have a friend who uses Windows 7 for her home PC. She has a RAID1 array that is using up-to-date Intel Matrix storage drivers, and the entire array is backed up to a separate internal SATA HDD via Acronis True Image every night. Over the weekends, she lets her machine go into suspend after 4 hours of inactivity, and then later into hibernation after 6 hours of inactivity. Her Acronis backup system does nightly incremental backups, and full backups every Saturday night. She also has AVG Free Antivirus installed which does full scans every Monday. So far, on two occasions, on Sunday morning, her user profile is corrupt. I couldn't find any solution that allowed me to repair her profile, so I end up having to (as suggested by MS Knowledge Base, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/fix-a-corrupted-user-profile ;, Yep, no solution to fixing it, just clobber the whole thing) recreating her profile, then copying over data, recreating her Outlook profile, reconfiguring all third-party applications, etc. It's a real nightmare, and takes 4 hours to do each time. Are there any suggestions on how to resolve this profile corruption? This was happening even before the RAID/Acronis solution was in place, but I thought I'd provide as much information as possible.

• OpenVPN (Tunnelblick) Suddenly Dropping Constantly

  I've been using Tunnelblick on my Mac for OpenVPN for about a year now. All of a sudden, this morning, it decided that it was going to take a nasty turn for the worse with no explanation. Here are the symptoms I'm seeing: I can connect to the VPN fine, initially. After about 2 - 5 minutes of no interruption, the connection suddenly dies. I can still see the VPN route using netstat -rn, and Tunnelblick believes it's still connected. No VPN traffic can go through and I can't even ping the VPN gateway. Eventually, Tunnelblick will catch on that the connection has died (usually about 5 - 10 minutes later) and shoot itself to restart and then the cycle starts over again. I've tried everything I can think of to figure this one out. I've completely flushed my system by rebooting and removing Tunnelblick and all traces of OpenVPN from my system and re-installing from scratch. No dice, same problem. I'm at my wits end, because I desperately need to get this fixed as the VPN is required for me to be able to do my job. Any ideas you have would be greatly appreciated.

• Windows 7 VPN Error 619

  So I am running Windows 7 Enterprise. This morning I was able to VPN using the built in VPN (Connect to Work Network etc). I had to change my network's IP address range and now the VPN will not work. It just stalls on the Verifying user name and password... message. But then it returns the 619 error. Anybody know why changing my machine's IP address would cause this problem? Where should I be looking to try and fix this issue? I have tried this on a Windows XP machine that also had the IP address range change and this still connects fine using exactly the same connection details. EDIT The internal network range changed from 192.x.x.x to 10.x.x.x. This was done on the entire Active Directory. All machines are running fine and the Windows XP machine, that works going to the same client VPN mentioned above is on the same network. Both the XP and the Win 7 machines are using DHCP served by the Domain Controller. The client domain is not performing any IP range checks/restrictions. The VPN is outside the internal network, connection is being made via the Internet and not passing through any other machine, other than the normal domain machines, ie DNS etc. This is passing through a router and the router has the relevant VPN passthrough options configured. All internal machines are working correctly with other forms of VPN, ie Cisco, Sonic etc (these were tested on other machines, they are not installed on the Vista or Win7 machines). After further testing, this is occurring on all Win7 and Vista machines where they can no longer connect to the client VPN, however all XP machines can still connect fine. This has been tested on three Vista, two Win7 and five XP machines. All machines are on DHCP and tests have been done with both the firewalls turned on and off, as well as with fixed IPs being used. • Hardware issue: computer plays beep sounds at startup, and then turns off

  Turns out that after moving, my computer got damaged somehow. I installed my computer 2 days ago. I didn't check the state of the hardware parts and turned the pc on recklessly, not realizing that the cpu fan was dettached from the cpu. After this I reattached the fan. The computer worked kind of faulty after that, because at the time of startup, it would play a long beep (different from the normal beep) and won't display anything. I tried restarting after this incident and it got fixed (don't know how, but it did), and I was even able to play some videogames for some hours (more than 5). This morning I tried to get this issue sorted out by checking again the cpu and in general, the connections, and for my surprise, at the time of turning it on again, the computer wouldn't boot at all. I reapplied some thermal paste to the cpu and fan, but got no results (I did this because the old paste was very badly distributted along the surface of both cpu and fan). Now every time I turn it on, the computer acts randomly: sometimes at startup, it plays a long continous beep and then turns off. one time it played a long continous beep and got to the windows password input screen, but then it turned off More frequently, I turn it on and after some seconds, it turns off without any sound. You can check this video I recorded, which features how the computer behaves most of the time Another one I tried troubleshoting it myself by disconnecting my graphic card, rams, HDD and even the cpu and its fan with no result. • MGE UPS Cut power - What happened?

  I have 3 x MGE Pulsar M 3000 2700w UPS units within my server room which have run perfectly up until now. On Saturday morning I noticed that one of these UPS units was no longer outputting power, the lcd displayed a message saying "load not powered" and told me to press the power button to start output. Needless to say that the servers, switches and routers is was supporting were all turned off. I tried pressing and even holding the power button, but the unit refused to start back up again. Only power cycling the unit got it back up again. I have checked the logs on the UPS, although they were useless. Nothing out of the ordinary, and no email notifications had been sent. The output level sits on about 51% and all battery checks are OK. It is now three days on and the UPS is still up and running (although I am scheduling an outage to get it out of there ASAP). Does anyone have any idea what could have gone wrong here? Is there anything else that I can check that could help?

• How To Find Reasons of Why Site Goes Online/Offline

  Seems today a website I manage has been going online and offline throughout the entire day. I have no idea what is causing the issue so I am seeking guidance on where to start. It is a Wordpress based site. So here is what I DO know: I use a program that pings the server every minute and when the server is not responding me it emails me, so I can know exactly when the site is online and offline. The site between 8pm to 12pm 12.28, and around the 1a hour early morning 12.29 (New York City timezone, and all times below are in same timezone). At the time of the ups/downs I see a lot of strain on the memory usage. Look at the load average when the site is going online/offline (http://screencast.com/t/BRlfXkqrbJII). Then I ran this command to restart http (http://screencast.com/t/usVtYWZ2Qi) and the memory usage then goes down to this (http://screencast.com/t/VdTIy3bgZiQB). An hour after I restarted http, the site then went offline/online so restarting the http didn't do much help. When the site is going offline/online, I ran the top command and get this (http://screencast.com/t/zEwr7YQj3). Here is a top command when the site is at it's lowest (http://screencast.com/t/eaMfha9lbT - so this would be dubbged "normal"). Here is a bandwidth report (http://screencast.com/t/AS0h2CH1Gypq). The traffic doesn't seem to be that much (http://screencast.com/t/s7hrWNNic1K), but looking at my times the site is going up/down this may be one of the reasons? I have the dvp Nitro package at Media Temple (http://mediatemple.net/webhosting/nitro/). So at this point I would request some help in trying to figure out what the cause of this is, and how I can go about pinpointing this issue. ANY HELP is greatly appreciated.

• Managing Linux Directory Permissions & SFTP

  Good morning; I have a RHEL 5.7 web server configured to allow SSH/SFTP only by specific groups. I'd like for content managers to upload content to their respective directories and have that content inherit the user/group ownership of the directory regardless of upload method or application. For example: John is in group "web" for SSH/SFTP rights and "finance" for directory permissions, and uploads to directory "webstuff" via SFTP. Directory "webstuff" has permissions of "2760" (rwxrws---), and ownership of "apache:finance". If John uploads an update to an existing file in "webstuff", the ownership of the file stays at "apache:finance". If John uploads a new file to "webstuff", the ownership of the file is "john:finance". My desire is to have any file from John uploaded to "webstuff" to change to the directory's owner. I've tried with setuid and setgid both set, but the user-ownership didn't take. I've seen mentions on ServerFault of using ACL's, or a chrooted jail for SFTP but I have yet to configure and test them, and I don't know if they're a viable solution (they could be, I just don't know because I've never done either). Any thoughts and assistance would be greatly appreciated.

• How to disable irritating Office File Validation security alert?

  I have Microsoft Office 2007 running on Windows 7. Yesterday I updated Office to the latest service pack, i.e. SP3. This morning, when opening an MS Word document (.doc format, and a document I created myself some months ago) I was greeted with a new dialog box saying: Security Alert - Office File Validation WARNING: Office File Validation detected a problem while trying to open this file. Opening this is probably dangerous, and may allow a malicious user to take over your computer. Contact the sender and ask them to re-save and re-send the file. For more security, verify in person or via the phone that they sent the file. Including two links to some microsoft blabla webpage. Obviously the document is safe as I created it myself some months ago. How to disable this irritating dialog box? (On a sidenote, a rethorical question: Will Microsoft never learn? I consider myself a power user in Word, but I have no clue what could be wrong with my document so that it is considered dangerous. Let alone more basic users of Word. Sigh....)

• Oracle logical standby fails with ORA-01919

  I have an Oracle logical standby database being managed via data guard. Just this morning the redo apply process began failing with an ORA-01919 error, indicating one of our application roles did not exist. However, I can see the role on both primary and standby databases. We also have a physical standby that has long since applied the redo where this is happening on the logical, without issue. I have opened an SR with Oracle. I was wondering if anyone out there has seen this before. I guess I should mention: Oracle 10.2.0.4, Win2003 Server SP2. UPDATE: So far, Oracle Support has not provided an answer. I thought I'd post here what I have learned so far. It appears that a grant of DBA on the primary host to a role works fine for users granted the role. It does not work on the logical standby. IOW: create role TEST; grant dba to TEST; grant TEST to auser; connect auser set role TEST; grant <existing role> to <existing user>; This works on the primary instance but fails on the logical. A workaround appears to be to grant each role on the primary to the role TEST with admin option in the logical: grant <existing role> to TEST with admin option; <== do this on the logical standby Then the command works on the logical standby.

• My Computer hangs for a few minutes just after startup, and then is fine.

  So I just built myself a reasonably beefy computer, and I installed Windows 7 on it. However, I start the machine up each morning and within a few minutes, the computer will semi hang. That is the mouse is responsive, and most of the time I can open task manager, or a new tab in Chrome. Occasionally windows will be labelled as 'Not responding'. Then, the machine will get over it's problem, and will be nice and quick until I turn it off. Here's my specs: CPU: AMD Phenom-II X4 955 Black (Quad Core, 3.2ghz) RAM: 4GB of DDR3 1300 MOBO: ASUS M4A785T-M (Latest BIOS) HARD DRIVES: 2x1TB Western Digital Caviar Blacks in RAID-0. OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64. GPU: ASUS GT240 1GB. I believe this issue relates to the RAID array, as I didn't have the lockup problem before I created the array. I purchased a second drive and reformatted after creating a RAID array, since the single drive was a little on the pokey side (compared to the rest of the computer). What I have tried: Updated Raid Drivers Malware checks Windows Updates Unecessary Services CPU and Disk activity appears to be low (via Resource Monitor) No strange errors in the error log. Any thoughts?

• Setting MSN or Yahoo! Messenger status to Invisible or Offline when idle for an hour

  Where, or how, do I set it up in MSN Messenger or Yahoo! Messenger to automatically switch my status to either "Invisible" or "Offline" when idle for a half hour, or an hour? I know how to set my status as "Away" or "Busy" after 10 minutes, but can't seem to find a way to set the offline status options without manual intervention. Back story As a software developer, I am very used to turning the computer on for the whole day and not turning it back off. (For example, checking email for urgent fixes, fix issue and push to web server). It's not even turned off when heading to sleep in case I might find it hard to fall asleep and come back to check on the computer. Or to have it there ready in the morning to check that everything is okay. If I'm seen as being online for 24 hours of a day, some people see me as weird. Their perception of my value decreases as I'm always there (hard to get = high value; always there = low value). Leaving it on makes everyone in my contacts list think I have nothing better to do all day than sit in front of the computer. Even though it's my job and I do admittedly spend more time online than other people. That's why I'd like to find a way to set my status as Invisible or Offline.

• Find out when a system went down?

  I have a Mac OS X 10.5 server, with a RAID set in it, that went down due to a power outage on Thursday, and the machine is not happily booting right now*. It is possible to find out when the machine went down, while not booted off the internal drive? (I'm booted off an external drive, waiting for the RAID sets to initialize.) Normally, I'd run last. The man page doesn't indicate that I can run it against a different startup volume. It looks possible to parse /var/log/utmpx, but I don't think it'd be worthwhile to try to do that from scratch for this one-off problem. * I'm still trying to figure out why it isn't happy, and may ask a follow-up question. Right now I can see that UserNotificationCenter crashed repeatedly early Thursday morning, and that securityd, mdworker, and ARDAgent crash shortly after startup [I think -- I want to verify when the box went up and down]. The login window does not come up right (I think it is crashing or not able to cope with a dead securityd). The box is supposed to be set to go down when the UPS tells it power is out; at the moment, I'm wondering if it went down, and turned back on multiple times! I sure hope not.

• SSD seems dead after wakeup from Windows Sleep, BIOS stalls but doesn't find it anymore

  The morning, the following scary scenario happened: I woke up my Windows system Typed in my username and got an error (something like "could not load security xxx", but unsure of exact wording) System auto-restarted after cliking OK It didn't boot up anymore to the SSD with Windows 7 OS (I have another disk I can boot to, but that doesn't see the disk either). Obviously, this happened right after I instantiated a backup procedure, which hasn't succeeded either. The BIOS can't find the drive when I connect to SATA. And it can't find the drive when I connect it to SAS. I have a Dell Workstation T7400, most recent BIOS (version A06), version of SAS Host Bus Adapter BIOS (HBA) is MPTBIOS 6.14.10.00 (2007.09.29) from LSI Logic Corp. Other findings: When connecting to SATA, the DELL Logo screen stays really long (5 minutes) and then at the end of POST it says that a drive is not found When connecting to SAS, the SAS HBA initializing phase takes long (2 minutes, against normally 15 seconds) When running Dell Diagnostics, it doesn't finish and gives the error Exception occurred in module MPCACHE.MDM file "IOAPICSP.ASM" line 1645. I contacted Dell. On their advice I tried different slots and different cables to no avail. I use an APIC battery power, spikes in the power are thus unlikely. My conclusion so far: the disk is dead. I need this disk very badly because it contains the last few days of important development of which not all code was checked in the moment this happened. Are there any ways to recover dead SSD drives? The drive is a new X25-M G2 160GB model SSDSA2M160G2GC 2.5" in an extension bay and has been running without issues for 3 months on SAS.

• MySQL password changed every other day in windows?

  Every morning when I check server status,I will find MySQL's password is changed: mysql -uuser -ppassword will report ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'user'@'localhost' (using password: YES) And then I restart server,and when it's up,MySQL will be back to normal. It has now become a routinely job. What can be the cause for this? How can I know what's exactly happening to MySQL? • Windows 7 pc freezes for an indeterminate amount of time after unlocking

  Not sure if this type of question is appropriate for this forum, but I've tried everything I can think of to solve this problem aside from format/reinstall. I recently got a new work PC (Dell optiplex 755) with windows 7 professional x64. Standard developer software installed for .net development: VS2008, VS2005, SQL management studio, office 2007, etc. Recently I've been having this weird problem where after I lock my pc, when I try to unlock it, the screen will be black for awhile after unlocking. I can ctl+alt+del and put my password in but then it just goes black. The amount of time on the black screen seems to be related to the amount of time I am away from my PC. If only away a few minutes, it'll take about a minute to get to the desktop. If away for an hour, could take up to 15 minutes. If I lock it and go home for the night, I have to restart my PC in the morning (I've let it sit for an hour after a night of being locked and nothing happened). It doesn't do it every time but definitely the majority of the time. One weird thing I've seen is that if I remote into my machine before trying to log back in it does not do it. I uninstalled all software back to the point when I remember it started happening and it still does it. I was using this PC for a few weeks without this problem happening at all. Anyone know what my next troubleshooting steps could be? My IT department tried to fix it by moving my old profile to another disk and having me log in, effectively recreating a profile from scratch but that didn't solve it. As I said above if this isn't the right forum for these types of questions please let me know. Thanks in advance!

• Parallels Plesk returning strange numbers

  Hi everyone, As a relatively new Server Admin I've become a bit confused by some statistics Parallels Plesk Panel 10.0.1 is returning to me. I have a domain ('subscription') set up, mysite.com. Mysite.com only hosts files, mostly images Its file contents use up about 390MB of disk space Here's a screenshot: this is what Plesk is reporting mysite.com to use: And some more info: Now this is pretty confusing... I thought at first my site might have been hacked and had contents written to disk, but I checked and all is in order, nothing has been hacked into as far as I can tell. So I had a look in the site's CP for some more in-depth statistics, and this is what's returned... Now - sod's law - when I go to check my disk space statistics in more depth via the control panel, this morning it says "The data were not collected yet." - not too sure what that means, but, last night when I checked it was reporting something odd. It said Files were using up 390MB, but 1.80GB or so were being used up by 'Mail Accounts'. This is really strange, as there are no mail accounts set up for the domain. The only hint of 'mail' there is, is the catchall set up to forward *@mysite.com to a separate, ISP-hosted email account. Any ideas anybody? I can post more details if you need it. • What laptop would be recommended for video-editing or transcoding to blu-ray?

  I'm looking for a machine (has to be a laptop) reasonably fast enough to handle editing/transcoding/rendering to Blu-ray disc of full true HD 1080p (1920x1080) video from a Samsung R10 camcorder - MPEG4 25fps (not the Sony-Panasonic AVCHD format): To be able to browse through the footage (say, quarter screen is fine for monitoring) and do simple edits - cut out bad bits, add titles, fades, nothing too fancy To be able to burn the footage in 1920x1080p 24p (twenty-four) fps to blu-ray, probably don't mind if I have to leave it for a few hours, or even overnight, as long as its not still running in the morning or takes days. I ALREADY have an external USB 2.0 LG BE06LU10 blu-ray burner. Does quad core make much difference? Or would Dual-core suffice for the above? NVidia because of CUDA for increased speed. What software today can take advantage of this? Which graphics card do I need? So far I've found Dell/Alienware to be well-specified, having a 5yr old Dell laptop that still runs well, albeit slow by today's standards, gives me a good impression. My concerns are too much fan-noise and budget and some Dell Precision Laptops exceed 1500 pounds. Thoughts?

• Can't Connect w/ SQL Management Studio After Domain Change

  Our old Small Business Server 2003 (acting as our domain controller) was on the fritz, so we replaced it with a new Windows Server 2008 box and set the server up as our new domain controller. In hindsight, it may have been a mistake, but we set up the new server as a replacement and tried to keep as much the same as possible, including the DOMAIN name. The problem was, that even though the domain name was the same, the guest computers somehow still realized it was not the exact same domain. We had to unjoin and rejoin the domain and port over everyone's documents and settings. This morning, when I attempted to connect to my local SQL Server Instance, it was saying that my login failed. When I tried to use the SQL Management Studio, it throws the error "Package 'Microsoft SQL Management Studio Package' failed to load" on startup, then exits without giving me a chance to change the login. I am using Mixed Authentication and have an administrative account as a backup. Ideas? If there is a more appropriate stack, please let me know where to put it.

• Is there a program to show programs loading during the boot process in real time?

  Hi all, There are any number of programs that will show me WHAT will run during the boot process for Windows XP. I've always been partial to Mike Lin's version but there are several others, some of which are quite possibly superior. That's not the issue. What I'd really like is a program that would load first and then would list the programs that were about to load and then check them off as the programs loaded. This isn't something I necessarily need for myself. But certain family members get click happy as soon as they see the icon they eventually want to run and end up clicking on it. THIRTY TWO TIMES in one memorable crash-inducing spasm. If there was some way for 'progress' to be shown during the loading of from the various spots Windows auto-loads from, PLUS a BIG BANNER saying "Please do not move the mouse or click on anything until done.", I think I might cut down on my early morning family support calls significantly. I've tried a variety of searches, but I couldn't find the ones that show in real time in the forest of links to programs that will show the list after the fact. Any leads? If not, do any of you who write the after-the-fact listers want to take a shot at producing a utility to do what I think would be a relatively popular utility? • Windows XP Boot Issue - Diagnosing A Hard Drive Failure

  My five-year-old HP desktop running Windows XP SP3 wouldn't boot from the hard drive yesterday afternoon. I would see the boot sequence begin, then nothing but a black screen. Fortunately, I had just done an Acronis backup to my external drive in the morning, and I have a bootable USB key. I put the USB key into the drive, powered up the machine, and put the USB key first in line in the boot sequence. Voila! My machine came alive. But now I'm confused as to what the problem is and what to do next. I assumed that my hard drive was toast. But now that the machine is alive I can see files on my C: drive that have changes I made just yesterday. Clearly the drive is not dead. Here are my questions: What could explain my inability to boot from the hard drive? What would a remedy be? What's my best course of action? Should I replace the hard drive with a new one? If I replace the hard drive, do I reinstall the OS and apply the backup I did yesterday? If I decide that re-installing Windows XP makes no sense, how do I get back the Acronis backup that I did yesterday? I don't want to lose that. UPDATE: I just learned one more key fact. I'm having some work done on my house. I neglected to shut my machine down before the contractor came. My wife said he shut down the power to do some work on a circuit and then powered the house back up. I have a surge protector, but is it possible that cycling the power did some damage?

• Windows 7 pc freezes for an indeterminate amount of time after unlocking

  Not sure if this type of question is appropriate for this forum, but I've tried everything I can think of to solve this problem aside from format/reinstall. I recently got a new work PC (Dell optiplex 755) with windows 7 professional x64. Standard developer software installed for .net development: VS2008, VS2005, SQL management studio, office 2007, etc. Recently I've been having this weird problem where after I lock my pc, when I try to unlock it, the screen will be black for awhile after unlocking. I can ctl+alt+del and put my password in but then it just goes black. The amount of time on the black screen seems to be related to the amount of time I am away from my PC. If only away a few minutes, it'll take about a minute to get to the desktop. If away for an hour, could take up to 15 minutes. If I lock it and go home for the night, I have to restart my PC in the morning (I've let it sit for an hour after a night of being locked and nothing happened). It doesn't do it every time but definitely the majority of the time. One weird thing I've seen is that if I remote into my machine before trying to log back in it does not do it. I uninstalled all software back to the point when I remember it started happening and it still does it. I was using this PC for a few weeks without this problem happening at all. Anyone know what my next troubleshooting steps could be? My IT department tried to fix it by moving my old profile to another disk and having me log in, effectively recreating a profile from scratch but that didn't solve it. As I said above if this isn't the right forum for these types of questions please let me know. Thanks in advance!

• Apache error "child pid XXXX exit signal exceeded file size limit (25)"

  Morning all, Apache on our internal development server stopped working last night. It's running, but all we get is a blank screen, no server errors. Examing the error log shows the following, [Fri Apr 23 09:13:57 2010] [notice] child pid XXXX exit signal exceeded file size limit (25) [Fri Apr 23 09:14:03 2010] [notice] child pid XXXX exit signal exceeded file size limit (25) [Fri Apr 23 09:14:03 2010] [notice] child pid XXXX exit signal exceeded file size limit (25) [Fri Apr 23 09:14:06 2010] [notice] child pid XXXX exit signal exceeded file size limit (25) After some Googling, we found that this is due to Apache trying to handle a file greater than it's maximum allowed limit, which by default is 2GB and is usually an error log. I did a search using find . -size +1000000k -ls (find all files greater than 1GB) in our log and web folders, but nothing showed up. I've also restarted Apache and rebooted the server itself serveral times. I've completely wiped the log folder and started a fresh. Nothing is working. Any ideas as to what else might be causing this? Thank you
