• Solving the problem of finding parts which work well with each other

  Hi, I have a database of items. They are for cars and similar parts (eg cam/pistons) work better than others in different combinations (eg one product will work well with another, while another combination of 2 parts may not). There are so many possible permutations, what solutions apply to this problem? So far, I feel that these are possible approaches (Where I have question marks, something tells me these are solutions but I am not 100% confident they are). Neural networks (?) Collection-based approach (selection of parts in a collection for cam, and likewise for pistons in another collection, all work well with each other) Business rules engine (?) What are good ways to tackle this sort of problem? Thanks

• Joomla forwarding code to the View...is this the correct way to do it?

  Here are some sample methods from my Controller class. Now when the user clicks the New button $task=add is sent to the Controller and the add() method is called. As you can see it does not really do anything, it just creates a url and forwards it off to the correct view. • Rails routing: how to mix "GET" and "PUT"

  Not sure how to frame this question (I'm still wrapping my head around Rails). Let's try this: Say I wanted to implement the user side of Ryan Bates' excellent railscast on nested models. (He shows how to implement a survey where you can add and remove questions and answers dynamically). I want the user's side of this: to be able to answer questions and, not in the tutorial, be able to add comments. It seems to me that you have to implement a view that shows the questions and answers, allow selection of the answers, and the input of comments. So there would need to be a way to show the information, but also update the model on input, right? I know I'm not explaining this very well. I hope you understand what I'm getting at. Is it just a question of setting up the right routes? Or is there some controller mojo that needs to happen?

• Dropdowns don't work on webOS with PhoneGap?

  I'm trying to use a dropdown in a PhoneGap app I'm writing. It uses a simple <select>: <select> <option value="1">First</option> <option value="2">Second</option> </select> This works fine on Android and the iPhone (including behaving like a native drop-down would on those systems). However, it doesn't appear to work on webOS (neither the Palm Pre itself nor the emulator). The <select> displays properly on the screen, but when I tap on it, nothing happens--I'm not able to make a selection from the dropdown. Why might this be?

• Is MS Access still the most efficient RAD tool for small-scale custom apps?

  Of the many other development tools I've used, nothing holds a candle to the 'Functionality to Development Effort' ratio of MS Access. The reason I am asking is that I have been out of the language selection process for a few years, working on a large .Net system, and am only anecdotally familiar with the latest development tools outside the .Net world. I'm well aware of the limitations of Access, but for a limited concurrency (usually only 1 user at a time), small business, custom app, has anybody found a comparable end-to-end solution or combination that comes close? It doesn't have to be free, open source, or even Windows based. It just has to allow the same speed of development and maintenance, and maybe even provide some additional amenities like seamless autointegration with a server-based DB Engine (like Access does with its own 'Jet' dbms), better web support, and a file format more compatible with source control. I don't want to miss out on anything. Please share your development experience with your suggestions. Thanks.

• PDO Prepare statement not processing parameters

  I've exhausted all efforts at what appears to be a trivial problem, but gotten nowhere. There is a simple Prepare statement: $qry = $core->db->prepare("SELECT * FROM users WHERE email = '?'"); $qry->execute(array('[email protected]')); However, no rows are returned. Running the query with the parameters hardcoded into the query results in a successful selection of one row. I've tryed many different methods of doing the prepare, but even it this most simple form it isn't working. The PDO object is stored in a singleton called Core. PDO is using the mysql driver.

In this case I would like to take "7" and insert that into the year variable if that is what is selected from teh checkboxmenu.   I've inherited some C# code that contains about a thousand lines of source that I need to modify, transforming it from this: newDataRow["to_dir"] = comboBox108.Text; To this: assetAttributes.Add("to_dir", comboBox108.Text); The lines occur in various places throughout the application in groups of 40 or 50. Modifying each line by hand in Visual Studio 2008 can be done but it's labor intensive and prone to errors. Is there a Windows utility out there that will let me cut and paste groups of code into it and then run some sort of reg-ex expression to transform the individual lines one-by-one? I'd also be willing to use some sort of VS 2008 add-in that performed the same set of reg-ex operations against a selection of code. Thanks in advance.

  Let's say I'm writing an application which works with projects, and exposes different functionality depending on the type of the project. I have a hierarchy of classes for the different types of projects: class AbstractProject { }; class ProjectA : public AbstractProject { }; class ProjectB : public AbstractProject { }; class ProjectC : public AbstractProject { }; Now, I was planning to have an AbstractProject *_currentProject pointer as a member in the application's main class, pop up a dialog box on startup and based on the selection, do: _currentProject = new ProjectB(); // e.g. Later, I'll have to downcast the pointer to the specific type to utilize the functionality specific to different Project-s. Somehow this makes me feel uneasy. Is there a Better Way of doing this?

  I am trying to create an option in the right-click menu that is dynamic based on the user's action. If the user selects some text, then right-clicks, the option will say "Display It". If the user right-clicks without selecting some text, the option will say "Select Some Text First" and be grayed out. I am wondering how do I achieve this? I currently have it so that the option will appear only when the user has selected some text. • Dropdown binding and postbacks - ASP.NET

  I have a rather complex page. The ASPX page loads a user control which in turn loads a child User control. Parent Control protected override void OnInit(EventArgs e) { //Loads child control } In the child user control, I use custom control that inherits from System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlSelect ASCX: <cust:CustDropDownList id="ctlDdl" runat="server"/> ASCX.CS protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { //Binds CtlDdl here } When the user clicks on the Save button, the controls get user controls get dynamically reloaded, but Iose the value the user has selected in the dropdown. I run into the chicken and egg problem here. I think I need to bind the ctlDdl only on if its not a postback, but that results in the dropdown not getting populated. If I bind it everytime, then i lose user's selection EDIT: Can someone respond to my comment to Jonathan's answer? Thanks

• Cell contents changing after I select rows present outside its height?

  I have set the size of the tableView that I show as the popoverController as 4*rowheight. And I am using 12cells in the tableView. Each cell contains an image and a label. I can see all the cells by scrolling. Upto 5th cell its ok. After th2 5th cell, the label and the image that I am using in the first four cells are being repeated for the remaining cells. And If I select the cell, the result is accurately shown. But when I again take the tableView, the image and labels are not accurate even for the first 5 cells. All are changed but the selection is giving the correct result. Did anyone got the idea what the problem is??

  One of my colleagues doesn't like to use HTML classes and ids for javascript/jQuery purpose. Therefore I've seen that he had created custom html attribute such as <div id="myid" class="cssClasses ..." [some-purpose-id]="mycustomId">...</div> I asked him if it was really a good idea and he replied that he considers that classes and Ids should be reserved for styling. Personally, I would have used classes. Some classes would have been used for styling, and some other classes would have been used for programming (jQuery selectors). The idea is to keep things appart also. And of course jQuery could set styling classes but if possible not use them for selection. Of course I also use id when appropriate but since an id is unique on a page, I like to do generic stuff using classes. I would like to know you opinions on the better approach (if there is one).   Double buffering not working with combo-box. is there any another methods to avoid flickering in windows forms? i have one windows form with number of panels in it. I'm showing only one panel at a time based on my menu selection. i have one icon panel,one header panel and the combo box. based on the selected item of that combo-box the gridview1 and 2 are filling. when I'm rapidly selecting the combo-box item using my keyboard down arrow the icon panel and the header panel are always repainting. i need to keep that both without any change. this two panels producing some flashing effect(ie,they are blinking or flashing) while I'm changing the combo box selected index. is there any way to avoid this flashing.? i tried double-buffered enabled in form constructor and form load event. Please Help..............

• MVC Html.DropDownList closes prematurely in IE7

  I'm using ASP.NET MVC with jquery. I have a couple of dropdownlists. When I select one via mouse click and then scroll down over the items using the mouse/cursor, the list closes before a selection can be made, before the mouse can be clicked. This doesn't happen when I open them and then up/down arrow to select an item. It doesn't happen all of the time, but a lot. Just to try something different, I added a jquery "select" control with hardcoded values (options) and it displays the same behavior. • Using Selenium 2's IWebDriver to interact with elements on the page

  I'm using Selenium's IWebDriver to write Unit Tests in C#. Such is an example: IWebDriver defaultDriver = new InternetExplorerDriver(); var ddl = driver.FindElements(By.TagName("select")); The last line retrieves the select HTML element wrapped in a IWebElement. I need a way to simulate selection to a specific option in that select list but I can't figure out how to do it. Upon some research, I found examples where people are using the ISelenium DefaultSelenium class to accomplish the following, but I am not making use of this class because I'm doing everything with IWebDriver and INavigation (from defaultDriver.Navigate()). I also noticed that ISelenium DefaultSelenium contains a ton of other methods that aren't available in the concrete implementations of IWebDriver. So is there any way I can use IWebDriver and INavigation in conjunction with ISelenium DefaultSelenium ?

One thing they want to see is that the middle button-drag does what the left button-drag normally does (we are repurposing left-drag to other things). So it needs the two key features that left-drag does in a ListBox default implementation: While holding down the button and dragging, the selection starts where I click down and extends to where I drag. While dragging outside the listbox region, it scrolls if there is scrollable space in that direction. Before I go an duplicate this functionality by hand, is there any easy way to fool ListBox into thinking it's getting left-mouse drag events but instead is getting middle-mouse?

• Query to get row from one table, else random row from another

  tblUserProfile - I have a table which holds all the Profile Info (too many fields) tblMonthlyProfiles - Another table which has just the ProfileID in it (the idea is that this table holds 2 profileids which sometimes become monthly profiles (on selection)) Now when I need to show monthly profiles, I simply do a select from this tblMonthlyProfiles and Join with tblUserProfile to get all valid info. If there are no rows in tblMonthlyProfile, then monthly profile section is not displayed. Now the requirement is to ALWAYS show Monthly Profiles. If there are no rows in monthlyProfiles, it should pick up 2 random profiles from tblUserProfile. If there is only one row in monthlyProfiles, it should pick up only one random row from tblUserProfile. What is the best way to do all this in one single query ? I thought something like this select top 2 * from tblUserProfile P LEFT OUTER JOIN tblMonthlyProfiles M on M.profileid = P.profileid ORder by NEWID() But this always gives me 2 random rows from tblProfile. How can I solve this ?

• Crystal Reports: Cannot insert some fields from Field Explorer to Report

  I have an existing report (Crystal Reports 11) that is based on two Oracle views. I have made 'Verify database' already, it's done and up to date. My problem is that I can insert some fields to report but some other I cannot. For example: field Name (string(35)) is ok, but similar field Compamy (string(20)) I cannot insert to Report. Drag&drop does not work and small button "Insert to Report" in Field Explorer is disabled too. Next symptom: when I try to use functionless field (e.g. Company) in Record Selection Formula Editor, Crystal Reports crash. There is any way how to add these fields into Report? Thanks

  Hello friends, I have four TabBarItem (TTTabItem) in a TabBar (TTTabBar). In one case, i want to remove the TabBarItem selection from any of the four TabBarItems (TTTabItem) . i.e., the complete TabBar will not show any TabBarItems selected. Can i achieve it? I tried the following, [_tabBar1 setSelectedTabItem:nil]; But it is crashing. Could someone guide me to resolve this? I need help urgently. (OR) If we clicked on one TabBarItem(TTTabItem), then again clicking on same TabBarItem(TTTabItem) will not call/execute anything right. Can i make it always clicking on a TabBarItem, should call "(void)tabBar: (UITabBar *)tabBar didSelectItem:(UITabBarItem *)item" (or) any other relevant system functions? • UINavigationController doesn't fully push view and only changes the Navigation toolbar to the next v

  So I have an iPhone application that utilizes a UINavigationController for setting up the views. When the application first starts, it presents the user with a UITableViewController and the user can select an item and it will push another view. Now I have it set so that my app remembers the user's last selection and automatically selects it and loads the correct view controller. The only problem is that I am experiencing a really weird glitch when I load the next view automatically.. When the view is pushed, the navigation toolbar will change so that a back button directed to the previous view is showing but it won't display the next view. It will instead keep showing the table view and I can interact with it as well. I can press the back button and it will change the toolbar back and the tableview is still shown. Then when I select an item it loads the view just fine. Thanks for the help.
