  As part of my academic project I would like to know what choices in Architecture, Design, Algorithms, Data Structures do we need in order to provide effective and efficient RDF Reasoning and Querying in a Big Data Environment. Basically I want to get info regarding below points: What are the Systems and Software to get appropriate Architecture? What kind of API layer(s) would we need on top of the Big Data stores, to make this possible? The Indexing structures we will need. The appropriate Algorithms, and appropriate Algorithms for Query Planning across Big Data stores.   If you have Oracle E-Business Suite's Cash Management (CE) application installed, you'll want to be sure to install the latest CPC (Consolidated Patch Collection) if you are using a R12.0 version of the apps, or the latest RPC (Recommended Patch Collection) for the R12.1 version of the apps. These collections give you all the fixes currently available for known issues in the specified versions of the application, including all of the latest Root Cause Analysis Fixes (RCAs)! What is an "RPC" (for R12.1 users)? Since the release of 12.1, a number of recommended patches for Oracle Cash Management have been made available as standalone patches to help address important business process issues. Adoption of these patches was highly recommended at the time, but not always implemented, so to further facilitate adoption of these patches, Oracle consolidated them into product-specific Recommended Patch Collections (RPCs) - a collection of recommended patches. • Optimize bootup sequence

  I'm on Ubuntu 11.04 (upgraded from 10.10) and suffering really high bootup times. It got so annoying, that I decided to dive into bootchart analysis myself. Therefore I installed bootchart and restarted the system which generated this chart. However, I'm not really experienced in reading such stuff. What causes the long bootup sequence? • Archiving your contact form data.

  I get TONS of email from customer. Over time, this email helps me to determine what areas in our product collection are opportunities for enhancement or improvement. I store the email that comes from my blog contact form in folders and then search through them looking for trends periodically. It occurred to me that, while I need to get the emails because many of them are actionable, it would be great if I could use reporting and analysis tools against the collection.   My blog has been quiet for quite a while. My inspiration comes from crunching/exchanging information which I should do more often. Gartner analysis tells us that by 2013 mobile phones will overtake PC’s as the most common Web access device worldwide. A few years back I would have said non sense, but apparently most Web users are comfortable with less processing power. Just take a look at the increasing business in Netbooks. Wouldn’t it be great to have a mobile phone which can connect wirelessly to my home TV, monitor, car display, mouse, keyboard, etc? And to have the processing power of the current Netbook generation? Where can I buy it? Why are we making our PC devices (for instance the slate) smaller while we can make our mobile device’s functionality bigger? What about the single responsibility principle? Does it apply to physical devices as well as good object-oriented software?

• Structuring an input file

  I am in the process of structuring a small program to perform some hydraulic analysis of pipe flow. As I am envisioning this, the program will read an input file, store the input parameters in a suitable way, operate on them and finally output results. I am struggling with how to structure the input file in a sane way; that is, in a way that a human can write it easily and a machine can parse it easily. A sample input file made available to me for a similar program is just a stream of comma-separated numbers that don't make much sense on their own, so that's the scenario I am trying to avoid. Though I am giving the details of my particular problem, I am more interested in general input-file structuring strategies. Is a stream of comma-separated values my best bet? Would I be better off using some sort of key:value structure? I don't know much about this, so any help will probably put me in a better track than I am now.

• How to interpret Google's "Avg. Page Load Time"?

  Is there any industry rule of thumb for what's considered an unacceptable load time v. an OK one v. a blistering fast one? We're just reviewing some Google Analytics data and getting 0.74 Avg. Page Load Time reported. I guess that's OK. However it would be good if some meatier comparison data were available, or a blog post, or somewhere where there's some analysis of what speeds are generally being achieved by various kinds of sites. Any useful links to help someone interpret these speeds? If you Google it you just get a lot of results dealing with how to improve your speed. We're not at that stage yet.

• implementing a high level function in a script to call a low level function in the game engine

  In my 2d game engine I have a function that does pathfinding, find_shortest_path. It executes for each time step in the game loop and calculates the next coordinate pair in the series of coordinates to reach the destination object. Now I want to call this function in a scripting language and have it only return the last coordinate pair result. I want the game engine to go about the business of rendering the incremental steps but I don't want the high level script to care about the rendering. The high level script is only for ai game logic. Now I know how to bind a method from C to python but how can I signal and coordinate the wait time between the incremental steps without the high level function returning until its time for the last step?

• Networking Icon Keeps Disappearing

  Almost every time I unlock my computer the networking icon and the Bluetooth icons are missing from the panel. They also disappear if I disable networking with the 'hardware switch', even though before they would just switch to a 'disabled' look. I know I can get the networking one back by running nm-applet, but I'd rather just find a way to make it stop disappearing. What causes this? This is on 12.10 64-bit, if it matters. UPDATE: I ran it from terminal, and got this: $ nm-applet ** Message: applet now removed from the notification area ** Message: PID 31340 (we are 28924) sent signal 15, shutting down... And then it exited. So it thinks it's supposed to quit...? I haven't been able to figure out what process had that ID.

  I'm totally new to this concept from design perspective. I've worked in past on some of the workflow engines as programmer but never had a clarity on why we chose the work-flow engines in first place. And as programmer I know that there are at least 100 ways to do anything when you are writing code but only few of the ways are the best! I still don't understand which use cases are best solved by workflow engines (or rather their concept) than designing a good DI enabled application. I'm looking for any general characteristics of domain-neutral use cases, where work-flow engines are one of the the best options. • Issues with HP Mini 110-1125NR

  Just finished installing Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin on my HP Mini 110-1125NR and im having small, but rather irritating issues. I installed it over the Windows 7 (starter) which came with the netbook. Firstly, it will only boot from the USB flashdisk. If i try to boot from the hardrive, it goes to a black screen. Second, built-in wireless wont activate. system says its enabled and on, but the light indicator is still orange (as if its off), and i cant get a signal from my home wi-fi I havent found any solved threads for inspiration, and mos of them are pretty old (1 year +) so i thought of giving a try to see if any of you guys System is: HP Mini 110-1100 1gb memory Intel Atom CPU N270 @ 1.60GHz x 2 Os - Precise Pangolin - Ubuntu 12.04 160gb Hard disk If any of you are aware of the solutions of my issues it'd be awesome Thanks in advance for any help!

• Why does my screen blank out for the duration of the Grub boot menu?

  Upon booting, when I should see the GRUB menu, my monitor simply says: "No optimum mode. Recommended mode: 1600*1200". If I wait for a short while, Ubuntu starts to boot and it reaches the desktop. So I guess there is no video signal during that time, there's the grub menu but I cant see it and after the wait time everything is fine. I have the same problem when I log out for a short moment, before the log in screen is reached. and this also happens when i shut down ubuntu. The VGA is an onboard NVIDIA GeForce 7025.

• Big delay to open web pages on Ubuntu 11.10; also slow torrent client speed

  The keywords for my issue are too common among other issues, so, I couldn't find anything that could answer me: why will it take around 30+ seconds for any of my browsers to open a page? happens even with google.com... with both Firefox and Chromium. This does not happen while I use Windows, from exactly the same point at my house (I've got enough wi-fi signal here for sure). Also, the standard torrent client won't hit the max download speed... I can hit 1 Mb/s with utorrent on Windows, and can't go over 300 kbps here. I tried changing the program settings, no results. Please help me. I REALLY don't wanna go back to Windows. Thanks in advance, I admire this community, and I'm sorry that I couldn't find something that could help me. I already solved a lot of issues without asking, but couldn't do it this time.

My understanding of their most commonly accepted usage (simplified): Business Analyst: Main role is eliciting the users' needs Software Developer Main role is to design, build and test a software solution answering the needs I'm wondering: "How we should call somebody whose role is to do both of the roles above?" Is this a common job title? And is trying to find people with these broadness of skills realistic, difficult? EDIT: I'm specifically interested to name Lead Software Developers who have eventually learned and can apply techniques of Business Analysis.

• Has the Appindicator or GtkMenu API changed in Saucy?

  I've written a custom application indicator, which isn't working properly on saucy. The menu is initialised with a few items, then updates regularly, adding or removing menu items. This worked fine <13.10, but on 13.10, the line that adds the menu to the indicator produces the following warning: Warning: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.38.0/./gobject/gsignal.c:2475: signal 'child-added' is invalid for instance '0x24390e0' of type 'GtkMenu' self.ind.set_menu(self.menu) And the items added to the menu subsequently dont appear. A bug has been filed against several indicators for the same problem, but it's not clear to me whether this is a problem with the indicators as a result of an API change, or a bug in the GTK or Appindicator libraries. Does anyone know?

• Why can't I get 100% code coverage on a method that calls a constructor of a generic type?

  Today I came across a wierd issue in a Visual Studio 2008 Code Coverage Analysis. Consider the following method:  private IController GetController<T>(IContext context) where T : IController, new() {     IController controller = new T();     controller.ListeningContext = context;     controller.Plugin = this;     return controller; } This method is called in a unit test as follows (MenuController has an empty constructor): controller = plugin.GetController<MenuController>(null);  After calling this method from a Unit Test, the following code coverage report is generated: As you can see, Code Coverage is only 85%. Looking up the code results in the following: Apparently, the call to the constructor of the generic type is considered only partly covered. WHY? Google didn't help. And MSDN didn't help at all, of course. Anybody who does know?

• Multithreaded game fails on SwapBuffers in render thread at exit

  The render loop and windows message loop run on separate threads. The way the program exits is that after PostQuitMessage is called in WM_DESTROY the message loop thread signals the render loop thread to exit. As far as I can tell before the render loop thread can even process the signal it tries SwapBuffers and that fails. My question, is there something about how Windows processes WM_DESTROY and WM_QUIT, in maybe DefWindowProc that causes various objects associated with rendering to go away even though I haven't explicitly deleted anything? And that would explain why the rendering thread is making bad calls at exit?

  Assume we are getting some statistics from a customer which we analyse and we send our comments to the customer. Now, the customer tells us that the statistic they computed between January and March are based on a wrong methodology and sends us corrected series. We want perform analysis with the wrong and with the correct set of data, which are huge and only differ from January to March. Therefore, we need something like synthetic database records implementing the following logic: synthetic[1] = wrong_data synthetic[2] = correct_data between Januar and March, wrong_data otherwise With this, we can easily perform our analyses on synthetic records. Should such synthetic records be implemented in the application logic or on the side of the database? What are common pitfalls of such an implementation?

• SharePoint 2010 slow page response time suddenly !

  Hello, One of my customers faced a problem that suddenly their SharePoint portal was loading extremely slower than usual. After some basic troubleshooting I did not find anything suspicious in the ULS logs, IIS logs or even Event logs. After that, I came to the part that I like most which is capturing a memory dump for the IIS process and analyzing the threads running. I searched for any common mistakes like looping a large list, calling a remote web service but couldn't find any. After a deep analysis of the memory dump (Which was done by an Escalation Engineer for SharePoint), it seems that the farm root certificate was missing and therefore was trying to validate it from the internet every time the user requests to load the page and this was the resolution http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2625048 Cheers,
