• Is using the break statement bad practice?

  I've been told by professors and peers at my university that using the break statement is bad practice, but through my coursework haven't come up with a great reason why. Those who claim that it is bad say that it's a "get out of jail free card" and that you can always avoid using it. My guesses for why its considered bad would be that you could possibly skip some cleanup code after the break, or similarly exit some control structure in an inconsistent state. Is there any reason why using break is(n't) bad practice?

If i am setting this in CSS or using display:none (and using it to hold raw text data) can i do something to skip? it seems like the only answer is rows="0" cols="0" each time i use it.   I'm performing a SQL query through hibernate, which looks like: SELECT thi FROM track_history_items thi JOIN artists art ON thi.artist_id = art.id WHERE thi.type = "TrackBroadcast" GROUP BY art.name ORDER thi.createdAt DESC but I'm getting the message that 'Node to traverse cannot be null!'. Anyone know what could be causing this? --EDIT-- I'm pretty sure that this problem is being caused by the possibility of artist_id to be null. However, I can't prevent this, so can I just skip the rows track_history_item rows which have a null artist_id?

I am looking for a selector for textbox elements that have this format: id = "FixedName_#" "FixedName" will always be "FixedName", but I only want to find elements where the # is positive. So I would want to find "FixedName_1", and "FixedName_2" for example, but skip over "FixedName_-1" and "FixedName_-2". Thanks!
