Need help troubleshooting why Solr wont start (or why solr admin page wont show)

I can't get Solr working. I have Jetty, and my server OS is Ubuntu 9.10. It is a VPS server. So, when I execute the java -jar start.jar everything seems fine. I even do a netstat to check if there are any listeners on the port before the start and after the start, and it seems solr is starting. However, I cant access the admin page. I have even turned off the firewall. Here is some info about my server: I have changed DocumentRoot to var/www/SV/ I have Apache2, PHP5, MySql installed I have "disabled" iptables firewall I have removed the htaccess files (I used them to passw protect my site under develop) I have installed JRE (NOT JDK) on my server. I use the "example" which comes with Solr, so I use Jetty as container on my Server. My Server has 768MB RAM Doing a java -version command shows this: java version "1.6.0_15" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_15-b03) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.1-b02, mixed mode) And in the terminal the last lines when executing start.jar is: May 29, 2010 1:30:03 PM org.apache.solr.core.SolrCore registerSearcher INFO: [] Registered new searcher Searcher@1dc64a5 main NOTE: Also before this last line, there is a line which makes me suspicious: Started SocketConnector @ 0.0.0.0:8983 // Should this be with leading zeros? Is there any ways you know to troubleshoot this? Memory issue maybe? Thanks

CSS animated menu

I am trying to obtain something similar to the "share this on..." menu here but I don't quite understand how they are doing this, even after a look at their CSS. I refer to the fact that the images show up on hover. My first attempt would be something like <div id="share_on"> <ul> <li><a href="#"><img src="shareon-digg.png" /></a></li> <li><a href="#"><img src="shareon-reddit.png" /></a></li> ... <li><a href="#"><img src="shareon-stumbleupon.png" /></a></li> </ul> </div> and the CSS: #share_on {overflow: hidden} #share_on ul {margin-bottom: -16px} #share_on li {display: inline} #share_on li:hover {margin-top: -16px} Of course this does not work, which is why I am asking here. In the inactive state, only half of the icon shows up, which is the expected behaviour. But on hover, nothing changes. I also have tried some variations, like #share_on li:hover {margin-bottom: 16px} or #share_on li:hover {padding-bottom: 16px} but none of these works. Any ideas?

Context menu event handling error - CS1061

I am still new to c# and wpf This program is a clock with different view and I would like to use the context menu to change between view, but the error says that there is no definition or extension method for the events. Symfony + JQueryUI Tabs navigation menu question

I'm trying to use the tabs purely as a navigational menu, loading my pages in the tabs, but being able to bookmark said tabs, and have the address bar correspond with the action I'm executing. So here is my simple nav partial: <div id='tabs'> <ul> <li id='home'><a href="<?php echo url_for('post/index') ?>" title="Home">Home</a></li> <li id='test'><a href="<?php echo url_for('post/test') ?>" title="Test">Test</a></li> </ul> </div> And the simple tabs intializer: $(document).ready(function() { $('#tabs').tabs({spinner: '' }); }); My layout just displays $sf_content. I want to display the content for the action I'm executing (currently home or test) in the tab, via ajax, and have the tab be bookmarkable. I've googled this like 4000 times and I can't find an example of what I'm trying to do. If anyone has a resource they know of, I can look it up, or if you can help, I would greatly appreciate it. First run notepad with my.cfg and only then start the service

Hi all, I install along with my application: 1) a service that starts and stops my application as needed 2) a conf file that contains actually the user data and that will be shown to the user to modify as needed (I give the user the chance to change it by running notepad.exe with my conf file during installing) The problem is that in my code the service I install starts before the user had the chance to modify the conf file. Text size for drop down menu/input select not working in Safari

Hello All, First question... I'm having trouble getting ANY of the Drop down menu/Input Select's to appear with size 18 font in Safari. Works fine in FF. Set "Start With" value for Oracle sequence dynamically

I'm trying to create a release script that can be deployed on multiple databases, but where the data can be merged back together at a later date. The obvious way to handle this is to set the sequence numbers for production data sufficiently high in subsequent deployments to prevent collisions. The problem is in coming up with a release script that will accept the environment number and set the "Start With" value of the sequences appropriately. Ideally, I'd like to use something like this: ACCEPT EnvironNum PROMPT 'Enter the Environment Number: ' --[more scripting] CREATE SEQUENCE seq1 START WITH &EnvironNum*100000; --[more scripting] This doesn't work because you can't evaluate a numeric expression in DDL. Another option is to create the sequences using dynamic SQL via PL/SQL. ACCEPT EnvironNum PROMPT 'Enter the Environment Number: ' --[more scripting] EXEC execute immediate 'CREATE SEQUENCE seq1 START WITH ' || &EnvironNum*100000; --[more scripting] However, I'd prefer to avoid this solution as I generally try to avoid issuing DDL in PL/SQL. Finally, the third option I've come up with is simply to accept the Start With value as a substitution variable, instead of the environment number. Does anyone have a better thought on how to go about this?

MSI install sequence - run DB scripts before services start

Folks, we're running into some sequencing troubles with our MSI install. As part of our app, we install a bunch of services and allow the user to pick whether to start them right away or later. When they start right away, they seem to start too early in the install sequence - before our database manager had a chance to update the database. Right now, our custom action to run the database updater looks like this - it's being run after "InstallFinalize" - very late in the process. <InstallExecuteSequence> <RemoveExistingProducts After='InstallInitialize' /> <Custom Action='RunDbUpdateManagerAction' After='InstallFinalize'> DbUpdateManager=3</Custom> </InstallExecuteSequence> What would be the more appropriate step to run after or before, to make sure the DB scripts are executed before any of the installed services start up? Is there a "BeforeServiceStart" step? EDIT: Just defining the "Before='StartServices'" attribute on the tag didn't solve my problem. I am assuming the issue is this: the custom action has an "inner text", which represents a condition, and this condition is: "&DbUpdateManager=3". From what I can deduce from trial & error, this probably means "the DbUpdateManager feature must be published". Now, trouble is: "PublishFeature" comes way at the end in the install sequence, just before "InstallFinalize", and definitely AFTER InstallServices / StartServices. So when I specify the "Before=StartServices" requirement, the condition "DbUpdateManager feature must be published" isn't true yet, so the DbUpdateManager doesn't get executed :-( I tried removing the condition - in that case, my DbUpdateManager sometimes doesn't execute at all, sometimes more than once - no real clear pattern as to what happens when..... Any more ideas?? Is there a way I could check for a condition "the DbUpdateManager feature is installed" which would be true after the "InstallFiles" step?? Marc

All that is supposed to happen is you select a url from the drop down menu and it auto sends you to that url that is in the value of the option tag. Works everywhere else, not sure why IE has to be such a jerk today. I'd post a url but i can't at the moment. its private. has anyone encountered this issue before?

My UL child label elements disappear in IE on accordion menu opening

I've got an app that's working pretty flawlessly in Chrome and FF, however, when I view it in IE, all is well until I click on a header element to activate it (jQuery accordion). What happens then is that I see a brief flash where the content is there, then suddenly the entire left column disappears. This column is generated by a floated label element with a class of ".left" as seen below... <ul class="menu collapsible"> <li class='expand sectionTitle'><a href='#'>General Settings</a> <ul class='acitem'> <li class="section"> <label class="left">This item if floated left with a defined width of 190px via css. This is the item that's disappearing after a brief display</label> <input class="input" value="input element here" /> <label class="description">This element has a margin-left:212px; set via css in order to be positioned to the right of the label element as if in an adjacent table cell. When I add a max-width property to this element, it disappears in IE too!</label> </li> </ul> </li> </ul> As you can see from the comments in the code above (for the two label elements) the description label disappears once I set a max-width on it. It shows up fine otherwise.

BlackBerry 5.0 causing full menu to show on navigationClick

I have a BlackBerry app that is built for 4.5.x SDK. The first page of the app shows a list of fields and each field can be highlighted and clicked. The click action shows a new view with additional information about the field. This all works fine in 4.5, 4.6 and 4.7 and on the sim with 5.0. On a real 9000 running 5.0, when clicking the trackball on an item in the list, the full menu is showing rather than the click event getting consumed (or even fired) for the field. The view is derived from MainScreen and looks something like this: public class ListView extends MainScreen { public ItemCollection list = new ItemCollection; protected void sublayout( int maxWidth, int maxHeight ) { int i = 1; while(( item == (Item)list.nextElement()) != null) { ItemField field = new ItemField(item, i++); add(field); } } } This class does not consume navigationClick, but shouldn't need to, right? The field class does consume navigationClick event: public class ItemField extends Field { protected boolean navigationClick(int status, int time) { controller.showDeal(item.id, Session.current); return true; } } Is there something that changed in 5.0 that I need to add to have this app work the same for all platforms?

Handling text menu in Python

Enter a value between 1 - 4.' testcaseOutput() My question: When the user enters an invalid input, i.e. not a number, I want this function to get called again. So I used the recursive approach which I think is bad design. I use that approach again in the if answer in range(1, 5). Is there any other way to handle this? I need the prompt called again when there is an invalid input. Also, is there any way I can club the two constraints: check whether input is a number and check whether the number is in the range(1,5) together? As you can see, I am checking that individually.

Drop down menu going under #main div background in IE 7/8/9

Here is the link to the domain http://linenwoods.com I am working on. I am going to fit the navigation list items on the header, but when the drop down menu is implemented I'm pretty sure it'll go under the #main div like you see currently. Is there any easy way fix to this? I couldn't find anything related to this from a google search .. was hoping someone could help me out. Below is the relevant CSS .. I tried playing around with z-index with no luck as I was told IE8 renders it strangely. If you have the time please follow the link with IE and leave a response .. I am trying to be as cross-browser compatible as possible and already am at a pretty pathetic start. Mail won't start up after migration to Mountain Lion Server

I'm not sure where to start. Our hard disk died on server running 10.6.8. Installed new disk. Followed Apple's migration instructions to 10.8.2. Apache2 will not start on OpenSUSE after enabling mod_pagespeed

I have a linode VPS, running openSUSE 12.1 (A little outdated, but stable). I have installed the RPMS for mod_pagespeed. mod_pagespeed.conf has "ModPagespeed on".
