  • Comparing RPG to C# and SQL.

    In an RPG program (One of IBM's languages on the AS/400) I can "chain" out to a file to see if a record (say, a certain customer record) exists in the file. If it does, then I can update that record instantly with new data. If the record doesn't exist, I can write a new record. The code would look like this: Customer Chain CustFile 71 ;turn on indicator 71 if not found if *in71 ;if 71 is "on" eval CustID = Customer; eval CustCredit = 10000; write CustRecord else ;71 not on, record found. CustCredit = 10000; update CustRecord endif Not being real familiar with SQL/C#, I'm wondering if there is a way to do a random retrieval from a file (which is what "chain" does in RPG). Basically I want to see if a record exists. If it does, update the record with some new information. If it does not, then I want to write a new record. I'm sure it's possible, but not quite sure how to go about doing it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, i started to try reverse debugging with gdb 7, followin the tutorial: http://www.sourceware.org/gdb/wiki/ProcessRecord/Tutorial and I thought, great! Then I started to debug a real program which gives an error at the end. So I run it with gdb, and I put a breakpoint just before the place I think the error appears. Then I type "record" in order to start to recrd actions for future reverse-debugging. But after some steps I get Process record doesn't support instruction 0xf0d at address 0x2aaaab4c4b4e. Process record: failed to record execution log. Program received signal SIGTRAP, Trace/breakpoint trap. 0x00002aaaab4c4b4e in memcpy () from /lib64/libc.so.6 (gdb) n Single stepping until exit from function memcpy, which has no line number information. Process record doesn't support instruction 0xf0d at address 0x2aaaab4c4b4e. Process record: failed to record execution log. Program received signal SIGABRT, Aborted. 0x00002aaaab4c4b4e in memcpy () from /lib64/libc.so.6 Before I look at in in detail, I wonder if this feature is still buggy, or if I should start to record from the beginning.     I'm trying to get this resolved in .NET 2.0 and unfortunately that is not negotiable. I am reading in a csv file with columns of data that 'should' correspond to a List of tickers in IdentA with some modifications. The csv file columsn would read: A_MSFT,A_CSCO,_A_YHOO,B_MSFT,B_CSCO,B_YHOO,C_MSFT,C_CSCO,C_YHOO IdentA[0]="MSFT" IdentA[1]="CSCO" IdentA[2]="YHOO" The AssetsA array is populated with the csv data AssetsA[0]=0 AssetsA[1]=1.1 AssetsA[2]=0 AssetsA[3]=2 AssetsA[4]=3.2 AssetsA[5]=12 AssetsA[6]=54 AssetsA[7]=13 AssetsA[8]=0.2 The C_ columns are optional but if they exist they all need to exist. All of the suffixes must match the values in IdentA. The values in the csv files all need to be decimal. I'm using a group of 3 as an example, there could be any number of tickers in the IdentA array. Its easy enough to do the first part: for (int x = 0; x < IdentA.Count; x++) { decimal.TryParse(AssetsA[x + IdentA.Count], out currentelections); } So that will get me the first set of values for the A_ columns but how can I get through B_ and C_ ? I can't do something as simple as IdentA.Count*2...

  • Dynamically generate client-side HTML form control using JavaScript and server-side Python code in Google App Engine

    I have the following client-side front-end HTML using Jinja2 template engine: {% for record in result %} <textarea name="remark">{{ record.remark }}</textarea> <input type="submit" name="approve" value="Approve" /> {% endfor %} Thus the HTML may show more than 1 set of textarea and submit button. The back-end Python code retrieves a variable number of records from a gql query using the model, and pass this to the Jinja2 template in result. When a submit button is clicked, it triggers the post method to update the record: def post(self): if self.request.get('approve'): updated_remark = self.request.get('remark') record.remark = db.Text(updated_remark) record.put() However, in some instances, the record updated is NOT the one that correspond to the submit button clicked (eg if a user clicks on record 1 submit, record 2 remark gets updated, but not record 1). I gather that this is due to the duplicate attribute name remark. I can possibly use JavaScript/jQuery to generate different attribute names. The question is, how do I code the back-end Python to get the (variable number of) names generated by the JavaScript? Thanks.

  • Generic validate input data via regex. Input error when match.count == 0

    Hi, I have a number of types of data fields on an input form, for example, a web page. Some fields are like, must be an email address, must be a number, must be a number between, must have certain characters. Basically, the list is undefinable. I wish to come up with a generic way of validating the data inputed. I thought I would use regex to validate the data. The fields which need validation would be related to a "regex expression" and a "regex error message" stating what the field should contain. My current mock up has that when the match count is zero, that would signify an error and to display the message. While still a white belt regex designer I have come to understand that in certain situations that it is difficult to write a regex which results in a match count of zero for every case. A complex regex case I looked for help on was Link Here. The forum post was a disaster because I confused people helping me. But one of the statements said that it was difficult to make a regex with a match count of zero meaning the input data was invalid; that the regex was very difficult to write that for. Does anyone have comments or suggestions on this generic validation system I am trying to create? thanks

  • TryUpdateModel is not working for new Record on ASP.NET MVC Page?

    Hi I have a customer Registartion page using ASP.NET MVC with fields like FirstName, LastName, Address from AddressDetail Table. When i create a new object for CustomerMaster and trying to update the fields using TryUpdateModel, it is not updating. But the TryUpdateModel is working fine on the Edit Profile Page and that particular record is referenced.     I have Source Connector Type as 'File Reader' which is reading HL7 files and Destination Connector Type as 'Database Writer'. My database table has two columns Participant_Information SPR_Information I want to transform a single HL7 file into two XML files one for Participant_Information column and other for SPR_Information column and need to insert both as a single record into the database table. I'm able to insert one XML at a time but not able to find the way to insert both the XMLs as a single record into the database table. Any help is really greatly appreciated!

I was able to return the summary values with a table-valued function, but the application won't utilize table-valued functions, so I'm kind of stuck.     I am starting to use memcache more frequently to avoid having to recalculate things between page requests. When the memcache periodically clears, as it is designed to do, I have to start all over rebuilding various items that I have placed in memcache. What I would like to do is create a very simple model that enables me to periodically save the items that I put into memcache based on the memcache keys that I'm using along with a datetime that is related to the data being memcached. What is the best way to do this? Am using C# to read the excel and and insert the records One more thing which is best approach: Read excel first and store every record as an object in a collection, then iterate through the collection, apply business rules on every object and then insert record in the database Or Read one record from excel apply business rule and then insert record in the database. Repeat the process for whole excel.

  • vs2008 mystery: Quick macro record and playback shortcuts not allowed?

    in vs2008, Tools, Macros, Record TemporaryMacro keyboard shortcut toggle is Ctrl+Shift+R; Run TemporaryMacro keyboard shorcut is Ctrl+Shift+P for playback. I've used them before, but they've stopped working. If I open Tools, Options, Keyboard, then navigate to a command like Tools.Run that has no assigned keyboard shortcut, I can experiment by pretending to assign a keyboard shorcut: I simply click inside the "Press shortcut keys:" textbox and try different keystroke combinations. Examples: Ctrl+p: currently assigned to File.Print Ctrl+r: currently assigned to various uses Ctrl+Shift+Q: available Ctrl+Shift+B: currently assigned to Build.BuildSolution BUT vs2008 will not even allow me to type either of Ctrl+Shift+P or Ctrl+Shift+R in the "Press shortcut keys:" textbox. When I type those combinations, nothing appears in the "Press shortcut keys:" textbox. Please note: I can record and playback a temporary macro by using the menu commands, however, the mouse is like a turtle when compared to the keyboard.     i have a table with the columns such id, tid, companyid, ttype etc.. the id may be same for many companyid but unique within the companyid and tid is always unique and i want to calculate the total no of transactions entered in the table, a single transaction may be inserted in more than one row, for example, id tid companyid ttype 1 1 1 xxx 1 2 1 may be null 2 3 1 yyy 2 4 1 may be null 2 5 1 may be null the above entries should be counted as only 2 transactions .. it may be repeated for many companyids.. so how do i calculate the total no of transactions entered in the table i tried select sum(count(*)) from transaction group by id,companyId; but doesn't work select count(*) from transaction group by id; wont work because the id may be repeated for different companyids.

  • What is the effect on record size of reordering columns in PostgreSQL?

    Since Postgres can only add columns at the end of tables, I end up re-ordering by adding new columns at the end of the table, setting them equal to existing columns, and then dropping the original columns. So, what does PostgreSQL do with the memory that's freed by dropped columns? Does it automatically re-use the memory, so a single record consumes the same amount of space as it did before? But that would require a re-write of the whole table, so to avoid that, does it just keep a bunch of blank space around in each record? Thanks! ~S
