  After installing Service Pack 3 I am getting this error "Generic Host Process For Win32 Services Encountered A Problem and needs to close. When this message pops my computer just stuck and I can not even restart it normally. The only fix of this problem is to un-install service pack 3 and run fix from Microsoft which is available for Service Pack 2. Any help to fix this. Thanks.

Reinstalled Microsoft Office Small Business Edition 2003 using install CD. Outlook worked buit keep getting error message pop up each time I open Outlook. Hit ok. Error Message #2: The path 'Microsoft Office Small Business Edition 2003' cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package 'STDP11N.MSI' in a folder from which you can install the product Microsoft Office Small Business Edition 2003."   A co-worker of mine is using an air-card. It prompted him to install software in the notification tray, but he clicked on the wrong thing and the icon went away without him installing that software. How can I get that icon back? He can't install the software then. I know that you can download the software from the site, but we did that and were having issues from that too. Restarting and trying again doesn't pop up the notification either. Thanks.

• Failure to copy files with ownership/ACL information on a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine

  I'm attempting to copy a directory tree, maintaining its ownership information using the command: XCOPY S:\ProjectsDefault\Tempalte\admin S:\Projects\00\111\admin /S /E /I /O the command gives an Access denied error message, and while it does create the directory tree, the ownership and ACL information is not copied. This is being done on a Windows 2008 R2 Server which has mounted a share from a Windows 2003 R2 domain controller. The user has been been granted full access to the share and is a member of the Domain Admins security group. Oddly enough, the command does work if performed on a different (Windows 2003 R2 Server). (It also works if done using the Domain Administrator account on the 2008 server.)

  Hello, A co-worker of mine is using an air-card; it prompted him to install software in the notification tray; he clicked on the wrong thing and the icon went away without him installing that software. How can I get that icon back? He can't install the software then... I know that you can download the software from the site, but we did that and were having issues from that too, was hoping to be able to install the sofware on the air card... Restarting and trying again doesn't pop up the notification too. Thanks.

  How to disable Windows File Protection in Windows 7 and/or XP from Registry? I want to automatically replace a driver with my created driver. I used PendingFileRenameOperations key in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager but i've found that it can ONLY be used for simple (not-system) files, because Windows File Protection disables it for system files (see this post). Now I need to temporarily disable WFP (and turn it on after changing driver). You can tell me another way to disable it. It can help me too. Thanks in advance! Any ideas?

  I set my company exchange mailbox in Windows 8.1 mail. (outsite). Everything works fine, but after i start the Windows 8.1 mail i get event with id 529 in the security log continously.   I have Windows 7 working on one machine but when I move it off to the new machine it crashes. If this is a driver issue do I need to download the drivers and install them first? Or do I install Windows 7 on the new machine first then copy the drivers folder over to the other disk so it will boot up correctly? I can stick the drive back in the old hardware and it runs fine.

• Prevent Windows 7 from unpluging External HDD

  I have installed Windows 7 as my media server. I pluged in 500GB external HDD via USB. I have changed power plan to Best Performance and changed advenced power settings to never turn off HDD etc. I even yesterday wrote powershell script (create and delete folder on this disk) and I have added it to harmonogram to run every 5 minutes starting from system boot. And nothing! Disk after some time (I realy can't say when) is turning off and Windows show "Unknown Device" in Device Manager. Then only system reboot or disk reboot helps. Any ideas how to prevent Windows 7 from stopping my external HDD? Cheers!

• Color Calibrate Dual Monitor XP SP2

  This topic has been touched on before but not really answered. I have a dual monitor system and the colors differ wildly. I currently live Buenos Aires where color correction hardware costs premium prices. I do some graphic design, but don't require a pro-level calibration. That said, I'd like my monitors to be set as close to "true color" as possible. I've located the useful and free Monitor Calibration Wizard, but it seems to adjust the entire system internally at startup. I could use the Microsoft Color Control Panel Applet to set a different ICC or ICM profile for each monitor, but the Monitor Calibration Wizard outputs its own format for profiles.

• Windows vista firewall exceptions unchangeable

  Hey, I want to allow a program (iTunes) through my windows firewall, so i check it in the program or port list under the exceptions tab (in my windows firewall settings), then i click OK. When i reopen the window the box is unchecked again. Which means i can never get the program through my windows firewall. I think this is a problem due to administrators rights. Because I also can not delete the program from the list. I can however delete other programs from the list. Anybody have any ideas, tips, remarks?

  I've been having problems with windows 7 waking from sleep after one minute or so on my laptop. I also have ArchLinux installed on this computer. A while back I tried a registry tweak to get windows to use UTC so it would play nice with Linux. The registry tweak didn't seem to work and my windows clock was always wrong. Today I deleted the registry entry that I added, and the problem with sleeping seemed to go away. Can anyone make sense of this?   When running some heavy applications like games or virtual box for some time.. the cpu usage is normal for some 15 mins and then suddently cpu usage increases. even after i quit the heavy apps and when i start some other apps, the cpu usage of the new opened application is also very high.. this continues until i reboot the system. There is single particular process occupy more cpu. All the processes cpu usage is little high than normal.. Any solutions?

• Asus EEE PC 1005HA (XP Home) refuses to connect to Virgin Mobile MiFi

  My client has an Asus EEE PC model 1005HA, and we're attempting to connect it to the WiFi network created by a VirginMobile MiFi unit. They also have a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard that has absolutely no issue connecting to the MiFi. The specific symptom is that the netbook fails to lease an IP address from the MiFi unit. I supply the 12-digit numerical password (WPA) to the netbook, it throws a 'waiting for network' dialog with an indeterminate progress indicator, and then times out. Update: We've determined that this behavior has stopped when the EEE PC and the MiFi unit were taken out of the client's home, and to a different home that didn't have an existing wifi network. Similarly, when taken to a third location that didn't have wifi, the EEE PC and MiFi got along swimmingly. My current theory is that the existing wifi networks and the wifi leg of the MiFi unit are on the same channel and competing with one another. Perhaps the MacBook Pro has the capability to overcome this interference, while the EEE PC doesn't.

  Ok this one has be confused as all get out! One of the teachers at the school I support has a dell latitude e5500 and the desktop shows about 3/4 just fine, but the right 1/4th shows whatever was on the last (like its not refreshing (yes I tried refreshing the screen)) For example if I open up internet explorer then minimize it the left 3/4ths minimizes, but the right 1/4th stays pulled up. Another interesting piece of information is that if I change it to God awful 800x600 it works perfectly fine. The sceen works together and has no problems.... The only way I have found to get rid of this is to reload the laptop and that is getting old quick! Thanks for your help! Msindle

• Javascript on a desktop wallpaper (XP)

  I have a desktop wallpaper shipped out by my domain, it's a HTML wallpaper that displays information like today's date, etc. It also has the internet usage rules. Using jquery I've made it so that the rules are hidden and displayed when you click on the section heading. The JS runs fine and it hides the rules, but it appears that once the desktop "loses focus" the javascript stops and clicking the headings does nothing. Anyone know a way to keep javascript running?

• How to charge an iPhone on a Windows PC without Installaing iTunes

  I want to be able to charge my iPhone on my work computer, which is running Windows Server 2008 SP1 64-Bit. When I plug the iPhone in with the USB cable, it will not charge. Windows attempts to locate a driver for the device but only comes up with a generic Camera device and even if I allow that to be installed, the iPhone still does not charge. I have checked the computer's BIOS settings and did not find anything relating to power on the USB devices. I also tried this on ports at the back of the computer in addition to those on the front. The PC is a Dell Optiplex 780. As far as I can tell USB devices do not charge unless Windows has installed an appropriate driver. Since it is a work computer I do not want to install iTunes which does include a driver. I have a workaround that I will post as an answer for reference.

• Windows 7 Locking Executable Files

  Since I've been using Windows 7 RTM (as opposed to the Beta and RCs), I've been having a peculiar issue with executable files. I first noticed it whilst using Visual Studio, in that when building a project, it would often fail saying that the output file was locked - but the problem has stemmed further. When I've executed an application, closed it (cleanly), and attempted to delete/move/rename/overwrite said file, Windows 7 tells me that the file is locked/access is denied. I've made use of software like LockHunter/Unlocker but it is seemingly unable to remove these locks (most of the time, it shows no locks at all). After about 5-10 minutes, the respective files are unlocked again, but needless to say this is a bit of a workflow-breaker (as it's not simply constrained to VS). I've done the usual tasks of virus/malware scanning, and turned up with absolutely nothing. I've got no peculiar services running, and the problem was not present before I installed a Windows 7 RTM version. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Per user queued Windows Error Reporting System queued Windows Error Reporting I guess I had never noticed these, because they were never that big. So, what are these items? Any particular reason why they became so large all of a sudden? And finally, is it safe to remove them?

• Trying to install an old program on Windows XP and getting an error message

  Hello I'm trying to install an older application named headline.exe. I'm getting an error message saying the the program has to end and asking if I want to notify Microsoft. The event logs says "Faulting application _untitled.exe version 1.0.0.1591, faulting module flash6.ocx, version 6.0.88.0, fault address blah blah blah.   In our cluster, RedHat4 & 5 machines, if someone locks the computer and walks away no body can use it. Is there a feature in RedHat5, Gnome, KDE etc that would allow for the option of switching users at the lock screen, so more than one person can be logged in? Thanks, rd42
