  • How to shuffle pairs

    - by Jessy
    How to shuffle the elements in the pairs? The program below, generate all possible pairs and later shuffle the pairs. e.g. possible pairs before shuffle is ab,ac,ae,af..etc shuffled to ac,ae,af,ab...etc How to make it not only shuffled in pairs but within the elements in the pair itself? e.g. instead of ab, ac, how can I make ba, ac ? String[] pictureFile = {"a.jpg","b.jpg","c.jpg","d.jpg","e.jpg","f.jpg","g.jpg"}; List <String> pic1= Arrays.asList(pictureFile); ... ListGenerator pic2= new ListGenerator(pic1); ArrayList<ArrayList<Integer>> pic2= new ArrayList<ArrayList<Integer>>(); public class ListGenerator { public ListGenerator(List<String> pic1) { int size = pic1.size(); // create a list of all possible combinations for(int i = 0 ; i < size ; i++) { for(int j = (i+1) ; j < size ; j++) { ArrayList<Integer> temp = new ArrayList<Integer>(); temp.add(i); temp.add(j); pic2.add(temp); } } Collections.shuffle(pic2); } //This method return the shuffled list public ArrayList<ArrayList<Integer>> getList() { return pic2; } }

  • Passing empty list as parameter to JPA query throws error

    - by Tuukka Mustonen
    If I pass an empty list into a JPA query, I get an error. For example: List<Municipality> municipalities = myDao.findAll(); // returns empty list em.createQuery("SELECT p FROM Profile p JOIN p.municipality m WHERE m IN (:municipalities)") .setParameter("municipalities", municipalities) .getResultList(); Because the list is empty, Hibernate generates this in SQL as "IN ()", which gives me error with Hypersonic database. There is a ticket for this in Hibernate issue tracking but there are not many comments/activity there. I don't know about support in other ORM products or in JPA spec either. I don't like the idea of having to manually check for null objects and empty lists every time. Is there some commonly known approach/extension to this? How do you handle these situations?

  • Spring and hibernate.cfg.xml

    - by Steve Kuo
    How do I get Spring to load Hibernate's properties from hibernate.cfg.xml? We're using Spring and JPA (with Hibernate as the implementation). Spring's applicationContext.xml specifies the JPA dialect and Hibernate properties: <bean id="entityManagerFactory" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.LocalEntityManagerFactoryBean"> <property name="jpaDialect"> <bean class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.vendor.HibernateJpaDialect" /> </property> <property name="jpaProperties"> <props> <prop key="hibernate.dialect">org.hibernate.dialect.MySQLInnoDBDialect</prop> </props> </property> </bean> In this configuration, Spring is reading all the Hibernate properties via applicationContext.xml . When I create a hibernate.cfg.xml (located at the root of my classpath, the same level as META-INF), Hibernate doesn't read it at all (it's completely ignored). What I'm trying to do is configure Hibernate second level cache by inserting the cache properties in hibernate.cfg.xml: <cache usage="transactional|read-write|nonstrict-read-write|read-only" region="RegionName" include="all|non-lazy" />

  • AutoCompleteTextView showing suggestions only for the first word entered

    - by DixieFlatline
    Hello! My autocompletetextview shows suggestions only for the first entered word. So if i write "ki" suggestions for king will popup. But if i enter "queen whitespace ki" there will be no suggestion for king. textView = (AutoCompleteTextView) findViewById(R.id.predlogi); String[] pred = getResources().getStringArray(R.array.predlogi); ArrayAdapter adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, android.R.layout.simple_dropdown_item_1line, pred); textView.setAdapter(adapter); textView.setThreshold(2); Is there any property that should be set to textView?

  • How can I pass a dynamic backing bean into a JSF 2.0 page using facelets?

    - by kgrad
    Hi, I am using a JSF 2.0 to create a web app (purely jee6, without spring/seam etc.). I would like to have a single xhtml page but pass the proper backing bean / entity into it. For example, I would like to be able to edit a user other than the logged in user, I have a user edit page which displays the information of the logged in user (being tracked by my session), I would like to instead pass in a user selected from a list and edit that user's information, without switching the user that is stored in the session or creating a separate xhtml page (violating DRY). The "best" way I can see to achieve this would be to reuse the exact same xhtml page that I am using to display the logged-in-user's edit page, but simply pass in a different entity in some way. Perhaps calling the setter in the backing bean before redirecting to the page (if this is even possible) or some other solution that does not violate DRY. Perhaps I have designed this all wrong, is there a way to pass in entities to JSF pages? thanks.

  • How to split xml to header and items using smooks?

    - by palto
    I have a xml file roughly like this: <batch> <header> <headerStuff /> </header> <contents> <timestamp /> <invoices> <invoice> <invoiceStuff /> </invoice> <!-- Insert 1000 invoice elements here --> </invoices> </contents> </batch> I would like to split that file to 1000 files with the same headerStuff and only one invoice. Smooks documentation is very proud of the possibilities of transformations, but unfortunately I don't want to do those. The only way I've figured how to do this is to repeat the whole structure in freemarker. But that feels like repeating the structure unnecessarily. The header has like 30 different tags so there would be lots of work involved also. What I currently have is this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <smooks-resource-list xmlns="http://www.milyn.org/xsd/smooks-1.1.xsd" xmlns:calc="http://www.milyn.org/xsd/smooks/calc-1.1.xsd" xmlns:frag="http://www.milyn.org/xsd/smooks/fragment-routing-1.2.xsd" xmlns:file="http://www.milyn.org/xsd/smooks/file-routing-1.1.xsd"> <params> <param name="stream.filter.type">SAX</param> </params> <frag:serialize fragment="INVOICE" bindTo="invoiceBean" /> <calc:counter countOnElement="INVOICE" beanId="split_calc" start="1" /> <file:outputStream openOnElement="INVOICE" resourceName="invoiceSplitStream"> <file:fileNamePattern>invoice-${split_calc}.xml</file:fileNamePattern> <file:destinationDirectoryPattern>target/invoices</file:destinationDirectoryPattern> <file:highWaterMark mark="10"/> </file:outputStream> <resource-config selector="INVOICE"> <resource>org.milyn.routing.io.OutputStreamRouter</resource> <param name="beanId">invoiceBean</param> <param name="resourceName">invoiceSplitStream</param> <param name="visitAfter">true</param> </resource-config> </smooks-resource-list> That creates files for each invoice tag, but I don't know how to continue from there to get the header also in the file. EDIT: The solution has to use Smooks. We use it in an application as a generic splitter and just create different smooks configuration files for different types of input files.

  • Layout of Ant build.xml with junit tests

    - by Derk
    In a project I have a folder src for all application source code and a different folder test for all junit test (both with a simular package hierarchy). Now I want that Ant can run all tests in in test folder, bot the problem is that now also files in the src folder with "Test" in the filename are included. This is the test target in the build.xml: <target name="test" depends="build"> <mkdir dir="reports/tests" /> <junit fork="yes" printsummary="yes"> <formatter type="xml"/> <classpath> <path location="${build}/WEB-INF/classes"/> <fileset dir="${projectname.home}/lib"> <include name="servlet-api.jar"/> <include name="httpunit.jar"/> <include name="Tidy.jar"/> <include name="js.jar"/> <include name="junit.jar"/> </fileset> </classpath> <batchtest todir="reports/tests"> <fileset dir="${build}/WEB-INF/classes"> <include name="**/*Test.class"/> </fileset> </batchtest> </junit> And I have added the test folder to the build target: <target name="build" depends="init,init-props,prepare"> <javac source="1.5" debug="true" destdir="${build}/WEB-INF/classes"> <src path="src" /> <src path="test" /> <classpath refid="classpath"/> </javac> </target>

  • Slow retrieval of data in SQLITE takes a long using ContentProvider

    - by Arlyn
    I have an application in Android (running 4.0.3) that stores a lot of data in Table A. Table A resides in SQLite Database. I am using a ContentProvider as an abstraction layer above the database. Lots of data here means almost 80,000 records per month. Table A is structured like this: String SQL_CREATE_TABLE = "CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS " + TABLE_A + " ( " + COLUMN_ID + " INTEGER PRIMARY KEY NOT NULL" + "," + COLUMN_GROUPNO + " INTEGER NOT NULL DEFAULT(0)" + "," + COLUMN_TIMESTAMP + " DATETIME UNIQUE NOT NULL" + "," + COLUMN_TAG + " TEXT" + "," + COLUMN_VALUE + " REAL NOT NULL" + "," + COLUMN_DEVICEID + " TEXT NOT NULL" + "," + COLUMN_NEW + " NUMERIC NOT NULL DEFAULT(1)" + " )"; Here is the index statement: String SQL_CREATE_INDEX_TIMESTAMP = "CREATE INDEX IF NOT EXISTS " + TABLE_A + "_" + COLUMN_TIMESTAMP + " ON " + TABLE_A + " (" + COLUMN_TIMESTAMP + ") "; I have defined the columns as well as the table name as String Constants. I am already experiencing significant slow down when retrieving this data from Table A. The problem is that when I retrieve data from this table, I first put it in an ArrayList and then I display it. Obviously, this is possibly the wrong way of doing things. I am trying to find a better way to approach this problem using a ContentProvider. But this is not the problem that bothers me. The problem is for some reason, it takes a lot longer to retrieve data from other tables which have only upto 12 records maximum. I see this delay increase as the number of records in Table A increase. This does not make any sense. I can understand the delay if I retrieve data from Table A, but why the delay in retrieving data from other tables. To clarify, I do not experience this delay if Table A is empty or has less than 3000 records. What could be the problem?

  • How does this code break the Law of Demeter?

    - by Dave Jarvis
    The following code breaks the Law of Demeter: public class Student extends Person { private Grades grades; public Student() { } /** Must never return null; throw an appropriately named exception, instead. */ private synchronized Grades getGrades() throws GradesException { if( this.grades == null ) { this.grades = createGrades(); } return this.grades; } /** Create a new instance of grades for this student. */ protected Grades createGrades() throws GradesException { // Reads the grades from the database, if needed. // return new Grades(); } /** Answers if this student was graded by a teacher with the given name. */ public boolean isTeacher( int year, String name ) throws GradesException, TeacherException { // The method only knows about Teacher instances. // return getTeacher( year ).nameEquals( name ); } private Grades getGradesForYear( int year ) throws GradesException { // The method only knows about Grades instances. // return getGrades().getForYear( year ); } private Teacher getTeacher( int year ) throws GradesException, TeacherException { // This method knows about Grades and Teacher instances. A mistake? // return getGradesForYear( year ).getTeacher(); } } public class Teacher extends Person { public Teacher() { } /** * This method will take into consideration first name, * last name, middle initial, case sensitivity, and * eventually it could answer true to wild cards and * regular expressions. */ public boolean nameEquals( String name ) { return getName().equalsIgnoreCase( name ); } /** Never returns null. */ private synchronized String getName() { if( this.name == null ) { this.name == ""; } return this.name; } } Questions How is the LoD broken? Where is the code breaking the LoD? How should the code be written to uphold the LoD?

  • Simple HTTP Framework and time issue

    - by Deniz Acay
    I'm using Simple Framework for my recent project, and there is a problem with the date headers generated by the system. I can get my local time from Date class correctly, but setDate method of Simple's Response class sets date in milliseconds and when i do that by calling System.currentTimeInMillis, dates in response headers are incorrect. is there any way to solve this problem with Simple Framework? If not, what can i do except calling set method with a date string? Thanks in advance... EDIT: Date in the headers are in wrong timezone. And i also tried Calendar.getInstance().getTimeInMilis() method.

  • Exception thrown while working with JTabbedPane

    - by Halo
    I'm using a JTabbedPane in my application and I listen to its changes with ChangeListener so that I can know which tab is currently selected. So my stateChanged method is; public void stateChanged(ChangeEvent e) { currentPageIndex = jTabbedPane.getSelectedIndex(); } But while I'm adding new tabs to the JTabbedPane it throws an ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException in the method above, I don't know why. Some suggested for a similar case that this is a bug http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4873983, but as you'll see some says the solution is to work with Swing from EventDispatchThread. What does it mean, do they mean the SwingUtilities.invokeLater thing? Can someone show me how I can modify my stateChanged method accordingly to avoid the exception?

  • Servlet requests are executed sequentially for no apparent reason in Glassfish v3

    - by Fabien Benoit
    Hi, I'm using Glassfish 3 Web profile and can't get http workers to execute concurrently requests on a servlet. This is how i observed the problem. I've made a very simple servlet, that writes the current thread name to the standard output and sleep for 10 seconds : protected void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { System.out.println(Thread.currentThread().getName()); try { Thread.sleep(10000); // 10 sec } catch (InterruptedException ex) {} } } And when i'm running several simultaneous requests, I clearly see in the logs that the requests are sequentially executed (one trace every 10 seconds). INFO: http-thread-pool-8080-(2) (10 seconds later...) INFO: http-thread-pool-8080-(1) (10 seconds later...) INFO: http-thread-pool-8080-(2) etc. All my GF settings are untouched - it's the out-of-the-box config (the default thread pool is 2 threads min, 5 max if I recall properly). ...I really don't understand why the sleep() block all the others worker threads. Any insight would be greatly appreciated ! Thanks, Fabien

  • Can someone explain the ivy.xml dependency's conf attribute?

    - by tieTYT
    I can't find any thorough explanation of the ivy dependency tag's conf attribute: <dependency org="hibernate" name="hibernate" rev="3.1.3" conf="runtime, standalone -> runtime(*)"/> See that conf attribute? I can't find any explanation (that I can understand) about the right hand side of the - symbol. PLEASE keep in mind I don't know the first thing about maven so please explain this attribute with that consideration. Yes, I've already looked at this: http://ant.apache.org/ivy/history/latest-release/ivyfile/dependency.html Thanks, Dan

  • How convince other developers not to ignore Exceptions?

    - by Mnementh
    Recently I encountered a bug in an application I took over from another developer. I debugged for the reason and over an hour later I realized, that the problem wasn't the code producing the exception, but some code executed before this returning wrong data. If I dived into this, I encountered the following: try { ... } catch (XYException e){} If the Exception would have been propagated (a change I did), I would have found the reason for the bugs in a few minutes, as the stacktrace had pointed me to the problem. So how can I convince other developers to never catch and ignore exceptions in this way?

    Hi. I have task to write program allowing users to draw stars, which can differ in size and amount of arms. When I was dealing with basic stars I was doing it with GeneralPath and tables of points : int xPoints[] = { 55, 67, 109, 73, 83, 55, 27, 37, 1, 43 }; int yPoints[] = { 0, 36, 36, 54, 96, 72, 96, 54, 36, 36 }; Graphics2D g2d = ( Graphics2D ) g; GeneralPath star = new GeneralPath(); star.moveTo( xPoints[ 0 ], yPoints[ 0 ] ); for ( int k = 1; k < xPoints.length; k++ ) star.lineTo( xPoints[ k ], yPoints[ k ] ); star.closePath(); g2d.fill( star ); What method should I choose for drawing stars with variable inner and outer radius, as well as different amount of arms ? This is what I should obtain :

    - by ablmf
    I wrote a little code like this to start an ftp server embedded in my application. It's based on apache ftpserver I found that anonymous user could not login. Client keeps get 530. Do I have add a configure file for ftp? I can not find any API to create a User to add to UserManger. private void start_ftp() throws FtpException { FtpServerFactory serverFactory = new FtpServerFactory(); ListenerFactory factory = new ListenerFactory(); // set the port of the listener factory.setPort(DEF_FTP_PORT); // replace the default listener serverFactory.addListener("default", factory.createListener()); Ftplet fl = new MyFtplet(); Map<String, Ftplet> map_ftplest = new LinkedHashMap<String, Ftplet>(); map_ftplest.put("default", fl); serverFactory.setFtplets(map_ftplest); UserManagerFactory u_factory = new PropertiesUserManagerFactory(); UserManager u_manager = u_factory.createUserManager(); //u_manager. Boolean b = u_manager.doesExist("anonymous"); serverFactory.setUserManager(u_manager); // start the server server = serverFactory.createServer(); server.start(); }

  • Tomcat - Redirect to Error Page when ServletContextListener fails

    - by Vic
    When Tomcat starts it calls my ServletContextListener to obtain a database connection, which I will later use in other servlets with getServletContext(). It is called in my web.xml as: listener listener-class org.ppdc.database.DBCPoolingListener /listener-class /listener (I removed the < because they wouldn't display properly in this message. If I cannot connect to the database when Tomcat starts up I get a 404 error, because Tomcat cannot start the application. How can I redirect the user to a custom error page at this point? I tried the following in my web.xml (I have the < brackets in the original): (error-page) (error-code404/error-code) (location/file_not_found.html/location) (/error-page) Any ideas on how to redirect a user to one of my error pages when Tomcat tries to start the application? Thanks Vic
