• Need help debugging a PHP 5 SOAP hello world application

  I've been trying to get PHP 5 SOAP extension to work after reading every tutorial there is on the web, but to no avail. This has been very frustrating and i would really appreciate it if someone could point out where i am going wrong and why. Thanks for your help in advance, and any more details needed i'll oblige. • Sharepoint checkin/checkout

  We have a sharepoint based application that uses a custom database for storing metadata/files (which could also be on a file share) My question is how can the standard file checkin/check out option in document library be customized? The javascript file ows.js in the layouts folder contains the functions that provide checkin/check out/ open file functionality. Behind the scenes it relies on a combination of HTTP Post/GET methods + SOAP + an activeX control to achieve the desired functionality. Customizing these javascript function seems tedious/error prone. Note that we have a web service that exposes endpoints, for retrieving necessary file information/data from the backend. The difficulty is in integrating it with the sharepoint js functions, due to lack of proper documentation. (Also the js functions might change over different versions of sharepoint) Also is it possible to create files/open files etc from the cache area on the client machine from server side code?

• Loading remote assembly from the webservice with reflection

  I am using Assembly.LoadFrom within a web service to load assemblies from a web site. but the problem is it is in the virutal directory and the server.mappath parses the url like \share\mydll.dll and loadform method failed. Is there anyway to reference dll from the remote location? I've tried passing the url (http:\localhost\downloadable\mydll.dll) and again it got "Could not load file or assembly 'http:\localhost\downloadable\mydll.dll' or one of its dependencies. HTTP download of assemblies has been disabled for this appdomain. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131048)"

• ASP.Net MVC 404 errors when route contains an .svc extension

  I have an ASP.Net MVC 2 site set up under IIS7 using the integrated pipeline with the following route: routes.MapRoute( "MyRoute", "mycontroller/{name}/{*path}", new { controller = "MyController", action = "Index", path = UrlParameter.Optional } ); There are no other routes above this route, but whenever I try and access the above route with a path value that has an .svc extension, for example: http://localhost/MyVirtualDirectory/mycontroller/test/somepath.svc ASP.Net returns a 404 error without executing my controller (I have a log message call at the start of the action method). If I change the extension to something benign (like .txt) it works perfectly, so seems that somewhere along the line ASP.Net is interpreting the request as a standard ASP.Net call to a web service that doesn't exist - this is definitely an ASP.Net 404 response (not an IIS response). What could be causing this, and how do I stop it from happening?

• C#, WinForms: Which view type for periodically updated list?

  I'm having an application, that periodically polls a web service (about every 10 seconds). In my application logic I'm having a List<Message> holding the messages. All messages have an id, and might be received out of order. Therefore the class implements the Comparable Interface. What WinForm control would fit to be regurarly updated (with the items in order). I plan to hold the last 500 messages. Should I sort the list and then update the whole form? Or is data binding approriate (concerning performance)?

  What is the best way to limit the amount of text that a user can enter into a 'textarea' field on a web page? The application in question is ASP .NET, but a platform agnostic answer is preferred. I understand that some amount of javascript is likely needed to get this done as I do not wish to actually perform the 'post' with that amount of data if possible as ASP .NET does have an upper limit to the size of the request that it will service (though I don't know what that is exactly). So maybe the real question is, what's the best way to do this in javascript that will meet the following criteria: -Must work equally well for both users simply typing data and copy/paste'ing data in from another source. -Must be as '508 compliance' friendly as possible.

• Error while importing SSL into jboss 4.2 ?

• Database Replication OOD Pattern

  Greetings fellow overflowers, After reading on MSDN about correct strategies on how to perform database replication, and understanding their suggestion on Master-Subordinate Incremental Replication. It left me wondering, what OOD design pattern should I use on this... The main elements of this strategy are the Acquirer, the Manipulator and the Writer. The first fetches data from the database and passes on to the second which might perform simple transformations to the data, before handling it to the final element, the writer, that writes the desired data on the destination Database. I thought about using the Chain of Responsibility pattern, but the Acquirer, Manipulator and Writer don't share a common role among theme, so It makes no sense. Should these elements be written as separate classes, or methods inside my service? Of course I'll be creating a DB Helper class as well, but that doesn't constitutes a problem.   I'm using Fedex's web services and getting an annoying error right up front before I can actually get anywhere. There was an error in serializing body of message addressValidationRequest1: 'Unable to generate a temporary class (result=1). error CS0030: Cannot convert type 'FedEx.InterOp.AddressValidationServiceReference.ParsedElement[]' to 'FedEx.InterOp.AddressValidationServiceReference.ParsedElement' error CS0029: Cannot implicitly convert type 'FedEx.InterOp.AddressValidationServiceReference.ParsedElement' to 'FedEx.InterOp.AddressValidationServiceReference.ParsedElement[]' '. Please see InnerException for more details. I'm using .NET 3.5 and get a horrible named class generated for me (I'm not sure why it isn't just AddressValidationService): AddressValidationPortTypeClient addressValidationService = new ...; on this class I make my web service call: addressValidationService.addressValidation(request); This is when I get this error. The only references I can find to this error come from ancient 1.1 projects. In my case my DLL has references to System.Web and System.Web.Services which seemed to be an issue back then.

So, we keep doing numerous "Proof of Concepts" with our own products on various business cases to analyze them deeply, understand and explain to our customers. We then present our learnings as they happened. The awareness of each PoC should help readers increase the trustworthiness of the results coming out of these PoCs. I present one such PoC where we invested a lot of time&effort.  Process Centric Banking : Loan Origination Solution Loan Origination is a process by which a borrower applies for a new loan and the lender processes that application. Loan origination includes the series of steps taken by the bank from the point the customer shows interest in a loan product all the way to disbursal of funds. The Loan Origination process is relevant for many kind of lenders in Financial services: Banks, Credit Unions, NBFCs(Non Banking Financial Companies) and so on. For simplicity sake, I will use "Bank" as the lending institution in the rest of my article.  Loan Origination is one of the core processes for Banks as it is the process by which the it creates assets against which the Institution earns most of its profits from. A well tuned loan origination process can affect the Bank in many positive ways. Banks have always shown great interest in automating the loan origination process for the above reason. However, due the constant changes in customer environment, market dynamics, prevailing economic conditions, cost pressures & regulatory environment they run into lot of challenges. Let me categorize some of these challenges for you Customer Environment Multiple Channels: Customer can use any of the available channels (Internet Banking, Email, Fax, Branch, Phone Banking, ATM, Broker, Mobile, Snail Mail) to perform all or some of the activities related to her Visibility into the origination process: Expect immediate update on the status of loan processing & alert messages Reduced Turn Around Time: Expect loans to be processed with least turn around time Reduced loan processing fees: Partly due to market dynamics the customer expects the loan processing fee to be negligible Market Dynamics Competitive environment:  The competition keeps creating many variants of loan products to attract customers, the bank needs to create similar product variants with better offers to attract customers or keep existing ones Ability to migrate loans from one vendor to another: It has become really easy for retail customers to move from one bank to the other given the low fee of loan processing and highly attractive offers. How does the bank protect it's customer base while actively engaging with potential customers banking with competitor banks Flexibility to react to market developments: Market development greatly influence loan processing, underwriting, asset valuation, risk mitigation rules. Can the bank modify rules and policies, the idea is not just to react to market developments but to pro-actively manage new developments Economic conditions Constant change in various rates and their implications on the rates and rules applied when on-boarding a loan: How quickly can the bank apply changes to rates offered to customers when the central bank changes various rates Requirements of Audit by the central banker: Tough economic conditions have demanded much more stringent audit rules and tests. The banks needs to produce ready reports(historic & operational) for audit compliance Risk Mitigation: While risk mitigation has always been a key concern for the bank, this is the area where the bank's underwriters & risk analysts spend the maximum time when processing a loan application. In order to reduce TAT the bank cannot compromise on its risk mitigation strategies Cost pressures Reduce Cost of processing per application: To deliver a reduced loan processing fee to the customer, the bank needs to keep its cost per processing loan application low. Meet customer TAT expectations while reducing the queues and the systems being used to process the loan application: The loan application could potentially be spending a lot of time waiting in the queue for further processing. Different volumes & patterns of applications demand different queuing algorithms. The bank needs to have real-time visibility into these queues and have the flexibility to change queuing algorithms at runtime  Increase the use of electronic communication and reduce the branch channel usage: Lesser automation leads not only leads to Increased turn around time, it also impacts more costs to reach out to customers The objective of our PoC was to implement a Loan Origination Solution whose ownership lies with the bank and effectively meet the challenges listed above. We built a simple story board for the solution We then went about implementing our storyboard using Oracle BPM Suite, Webcenter Content : Imaging. The web UI has been built on ADF technolgies, while the integration with core-services has been implemented using the underlying SOA infrastructure. The BPM process model is quite exhaustive can meet all the challenges listed above to reasonable degree. A bank intending to implement an end-to-end Loan Origination Solution has multiple options at it's disposal. It can Develop a customer Loan Origination Application from scratch: Gives maximum opportunity to build what you want but inflexible to upgrade and maintain. Higher TCO in long term Buy a Packaged application & customize it: Customizing a generic loan application can be tedious and prove as difficult as above. Build it using many disparate & un-integrated tools: Initially seems easier than developing from scratch. But, without integrated tool sets this is not a viable approach either or A solution based on a Framework: Independent Services and Business Process Modeling provide decoupled architecture that is flexible. We built this framework end-to-end with processes the core process of loan origination & several sub-processes such as Analyse and define customer needs, customer credit verification, identity check processes, legal review process, New customer registration & risk assessment.

Suppose, the scenario is like "I want to send emails to a list of email id's after everywhere 3 hrs", so the challenge here is the process should not be invoked by a HTTP link. It should be automatic. I think we can do this by IIS worker processes. Also this all will be happening on a shared server(like GoDaddy) in IIS7, .NET 3.5 Please anyone give me a direction.   I would like eventual interaction with MS Dynamics SL and/or MindTouch Core (running on WMware) for eventual intranet and/or internet display. I guess I am asking for front and back end recommendations for a database I am constructing, but since this is my first major project I would greatly appreciate any help and advice. I would also love an opportunity to learn a new language so the code base could be in any language. I do have a few more related questions for discussion; What is the viability of using Google hosting to provide the service to the public for free? Should I implement plone or another CMS if I have a large amount of output? Is there a structuring questionnaire or standards publication I could reference? Does UML diagramming provide additional options for portability? Thank you.

(+ one database per client) one instance for all clients (+ one database for all clients) Former one is simple, but... "inefficient". How about the latter? (best practises, design patterns) How to separate client data? For example: worker "A" of client "1" has two documents, worker "B" of client "2" has three documents. How to build model associations to protect other users (and clients) data? I think joining every query with Client model is not a good solution.

  Hello, I have plain POCOs here and as INotifyPropertyChanged is a Interface for the Views need its implemented in the ViewModel not the Model. Now I want to show validation errors in the View beside every textbox the user typed in data. I do not want to implemented the IDataErrorInfo interface in my Models because lets assume I am not allowed to touch them as they come from another Service/Supplier. I do not want to put my IsCustomerFirstNameLenthValid Method into the Model because I could not have access to it or I just dont want to pollute my Models with interface`s having nothing to do there! How can I validate my naked POCO`s in the ViewModel and forward the results to the View by showing validation errors ?

I downloaded a pre-release version of the iPhone SDK and tried to update one of my existing apps using a binary I built with it. Obviously you are not supposed to do this but I had forgotten about the warning when I installed the pre-release SDK. Anyway - I have two questions: Can I simply set the base SDK to an earlier version in the build settings and get around this problem? If not, then what should I do?

  Hello, I want to develop some crosstab also know as pivot reports in Asp.net with x-axis and y-axis being dynamics, allowing grouping by row and column, for example: have products in y-axis and date in x-axis having in body number of sells of a given product in a given date, if date in x-axis are years, i want subtotals for each month for a product (row) and subtotals of sells of all products in date (column) I know there are products available to build reports, but i am using Mysql, so Reporting Service is not an option. It's not necessary for the client build additional reports, i think the simplest solution is having a control to display such information and not using crystal report (which is not free) or something more complex, i want to know if is there an available free control to reach my goal. Well, does anybody know a control or have a different idea, thanks in advance.

• Wifi and 3G same time

  For my App I need Data from both, a local Network and the Internet. The local Network (Wifi) has no connection to the internet so I have to use the mobile connection (3G for Example). But whenever I connect to the local Network, 3G stopps. After asking the Samsung Service, there is no way to change that in the UI. But they couldn't tell me, if there is a programmable Interface for that. There is a mobile access point inside, so there is a way to connect a Wifi device to the Internet (which means that both, a wifi and a 3G connection is possible the same time in that way). But for my App the phone/tab has to connect to the existing Network and use the 3G for Internet. So this is my question here. Is there a way to connect to an existing Network and using 3G for Internet the same time?

• Sound issues after trying everything

  I cannot get my sound working properly, no matter what I do, there's always some problem. It's very annoying as it's the only thing preventing me from making Ubuntu my main OS. At the moment my sound always plays through both my speakers and my headphones regardless except the sound through the headphones is crackly. It is also a bit quiet even though everything is maxed. I've managed to improve the situation to a point where the sound out of my speakers is perfect but I have none at all from my headphones. I do have two connectors listed in the sound settings but regardless of which one is selected it always plays through the speakers. I think this might have something to do with the fact that my speakers are plugging into the front of my computer, typically the headphone jack, and my headphones are plugging into the back but when I try disconnecting the speakers from the front there is still no sound from the headphones. I fixed the speaker sound by going through the sound settings and making sure they were all set to 100% then rebooting. Things I have tried: Maxing everything and unmuting everything in alsamixer Uninstalling pulseaudio Making gstreamer use only alsa via gstreamer-properties. This worked with the sound test button including independent sound between headphones and speakers but when I reset the computer it no longer worked. So I tried setting it manually in gconf-editor which didn't work either. Reinstalling alsa and pulseaudio Setting the model in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf to 6stack and 6stack-dig neither worked. • In PHP, how do I add 3 months to the purchase date retrieved from the iPhone InApp receipt?

  After I have validated the receipt against the App Store from my PHP server, the App Store sends me back a JSON response with "status" : 0 "receipt" : ( .... ) One of the receipt items is "purchase_date" which contains the following string (example) "2010-02-09 19:17:04 Etc/GMT" I'm trying to establish a subscription service and would like to add 3 months to this date and then write that expiry date into a MySQL table. Is there a string-to-date type function in PHP that can allow me to achieve the adding of 3 months? I have found this example which looks like it adds 1 month to a date: $date = date("Y-m-d");// current date $date = strtotime(date("Y-m-d", strtotime($date)) . " +1 month"); But I'm not sure how I can turn the string passed by the App Store into a PHP recognised date.

• Streaming a non-PCM WAV file to a SilverLight application

  Hi, I would like to allow users to play recorded WAV files that stored on a server back to a Silverlight application as a client to play them. I saw that there is a way to play a WAV file on Silverlight (here), but when i tried to impliment it, i got an error playing the file because it is not in PCM format but encoded. The files that i'm trying to play are encoded with a special encoder, so i thought that the only way is to decode the WAV file on the server and stream it back to the client. The limitation is that the decode process should occur in real time because it is not reasonable to convert all the WAV files that exists. Is it possible to do it? Which streamer can i use? (Windows Media Service can help here?) Does somebody has any experience with such a scenario? Appreciate your help.
