• JPA - Can I create an Entity class, using an @DiscriminatorValue, that doesn't have its own table?

  Hi - this is potentially a bit complex, so I'll do my best to describe my situation - it's also my first post here, so please forgive formatting mistakes, etc! I'm using JPA with joined inheritance and a database structure that looks like: ACTION --------- ACTION_ID ACTION_MAPPING_ID ACTION_TYPE DELIVERY_CHANNEL_ACTION -------------------------- ACTION_ID CHANNEL_ID OVERRIDE_ADDRESS_ACTION -------------------------- ACTION_ID (various fields specific to this action type) So, in plain English, I have multiple different types of action, all share an ACTION_MAPPING, which is referenced from the 'parent' ACTION table. DELIVERY_CHANNEL_ACTION and OVERRIDE_ADDRESS_ACTION both have extra, supplementary data of their own, and are mapped to ACTION with a FK. Real-world, I also have a 'suppress' action, but this doesn't have any supplementary data of its own, so it doesn't have a corresponding table - all it needs is an ACTION_MAPPING, which is stored in the ACTION table. Hopefully you're with me so far... I'm creating a new project from scratch, so am pretty flexible in what I can do, but obviously would like to get it right from the outset! My current implementation, which works, has three entities loosely defined as follows: @Entity @Table(name="ACTION") @Inheritance(strategy=InheritanceType.JOINED) @DiscriminatorValue("SUPPRESS") public class Action @Entity @Table(name="DELIVERY_CHANNEL_ACTION") @DiscriminatorValue("DELIVERY_CHANNEL") public class DeliveryChannelAction extends Action @Entity @Table(name="OVERRIDE_ADDRESS_ACTION") @DiscriminatorValue("OVERRIDE_ADDRESS") public class OverrideAddressAction extends Action That is - I have a concrete base class, Action, with a Joined inheritance strategy. DeliveryChannelAction and OverrideAddressAction both extend Action. What feels wrong here though, is that my Action class is the base class for these two actions, but also forms the concrete implementation for the suppress action. For the time being this works, but at some point more actions are likely to be added, and there's every chance that some of them will, like SUPPRESS, have no supplementary data, which will start to get difficult! So... what I would like to do, in the object model world, is to have Action be abstract, and create a SuppressAction class, which is empty apart from having a @DiscriminatorValue("SUPPRESS"). I've tried doing exactly what is described above, so, changing Action to: @Entity @Table(name="ACTION") @Inheritance(strategy=InheritanceType.JOINED) public abstract class Action and creating: @DiscriminatorValue("SUPPRESS") public class SuppressAction extends Action but no luck - it seems to work fine for DeliveryChannelAction and OverrideAddressAction, but when I try to create a SuppressAction and persist it, I get: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Object: com.mypackage.SuppressAction[actionId=null] is not a known entity type. at org.eclipse.persistence.internal.sessions.UnitOfWorkImpl.registerNewObjectForPersist(UnitOfWorkImpl.java:4147) at org.eclipse.persistence.internal.jpa.EntityManagerImpl.persist(EntityManagerImpl.java:368) at com.mypackage.test.util.EntityTestUtil.createSuppressAction(EntityTestUtil.java:672) at com.mypackage.entities.ActionTest.testCRUDAction(ActionTest.java:27) which I assume is down to the fact that SuppressAction isn't registered as an entity, but I don't know how I can do that, given that it doesn't have an associated table. Any pointers, either complete answers or hints for things to Google (I'm out of ideas!), most welcome :) EDIT: to correct my stacktrace.

  I know that going into a catch block has some significance cost when executing a program, however, I was wondering if entering a try{} block also had any impact so I started looking for an answer in google with many opinions, but no benchmarking at all. Some answers I found were: Java try/catch performance, is it recommended to keep what is inside the try clause to a minimum? Try Catch Performance Java Java try catch blocks However they didn't answer my question with facts, so I decided to try it for myself. Here's what I did. I have a csv file with this format: host;ip;number;date;status;email;uid;name;lastname;promo_code; where everything after status is optional and will not even have the corresponding ; , so when parsing a validation has to be done to see if the value is there, here's where the try/catch issue came to my mind. The current code that in inherited in my company does this: StringTokenizer st=new StringTokenizer(line,";"); String host = st.nextToken(); String ip = st.nextToken(); String number = st.nextToken(); String date = st.nextToken(); String status = st.nextToken(); String email = ""; try{ email = st.nextToken(); }catch(NoSuchElementException e){ email = ""; } and it repeats what it's done for email with uid, name, lastname and promo_code. and I changed everything to: if(st.hasMoreTokens()){ email = st.nextToken(); } and in fact it performs faster. When parsing a file that doesn't have the optional columns. Here are the average times: --- Trying:122 milliseconds --- Checking:33 milliseconds however, here's what confused me and the reason I'm asking: When running the example with values for the optional columns in all 8000 lines of the CSV, the if() version still performs better than the try/catch version, so my question is Does really the try block does not have any performance impact on my code? The average times for this example are: --- Trying:105 milliseconds --- Checking:43 milliseconds Can somebody explain what's going on here? Thanks a lot

  I'm new to rails and have some troubles with creating a nested form. My models: class User < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :company accepts_nested_attributes_for :company, :reject_if => :all_blank end class Company < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :users end Now i would like to create a new company from the user sign_up page (i use Devise btw) by given only a company name. And have a relation between the new User and new Company. • Please help with very simple android widget button click. Getting very frustrated. :(

  I have poured over every example that I can find and I have gone through the official documentation from google. All I am trying to do is create a toast notification from a button click on a widget. I can get the widget (and button) to appear but I can't get my intent to fire. I have seen several examples that show doing this different ways but I just can't get it to work. I haven't felt this helpless with coding in a long time and I'm starting to feel dumb. • C# 'could not found' existing method

  Greetings! I've been fooling around (a bit) with C# and its assemblies. And so i've found such an interesting feature as dynamic loading assemblies and invoking its class members. A bit of google and here i am, writing some kind of 'assembly explorer'. (i've used some portions of code from here, here and here and none of 'em gave any of expected results). But i've found a small bug: when i tried to invoke class method from assembly i've loaded, application raised MissingMethod exception. I'm sure DLL i'm loading contains class and method i'm tryin' to invoke (my app ensures me as well as RedGate's .NET Reflector): The main application code seems to be okay and i start thinking if i was wrong with my DLL... Ah, and i've put both of projects into one solution, but i don't think it may cause any troubles. And yes, DLL project has 'class library' target while the main application one has 'console applcation' target. So, the question is: what's wrong with 'em? • Calling a JAVA method from C++ with JNI, no parameters

  Please bear with me, I am an iPhone developer and this whole android this confuses me a bit. I have some c++ methods that are called from a cocos2d-x CCMenuItem. Therefore I cannot send any parameters, according to the docs. I need to open a url with the android browser which will require me to call a JAVA function to start a new intent. I understand that I need to create a VM, however the below code gives me the error: jni/../../Classes/MyClass.cpp:184: error: 'JNI_CreateJavaVM' was not declared in this scope I was looking at this thread: Calling a java method from c++ in Android But he uses parameters, and I can't do that. And I don't see where those are in his code to just make them myself. I don't know what the string should be in the 'Find Class' method. Also, I assume it is pretty terrible to create a new VM instance in every method I need to call. How would I create one as a singleton to use across the board? • Calendar Day View in PHP

  I'm working on adding a day view option to an existing calendar solution. Like many people implementing their own calendars, I am trying to model Google Calendars. They have an excellent calendar solution and their day view provides a lot of flexibility. For most part, the implementation is going well; however, I'm having issues when it comes to conflicting events. Essentially, I want the events to share the same space, side by side. Events that start at the same time should have the longest event first. In the example data set I'm working with, I have four events: A: 10:30 - 11:30 B: 13:30 - 14:30 C: 10:30 - 11:00 D: 10:45 - 14:00 I can handle A, C, and D just fine, the problem comes with D. A should be left of C which should be left of D; each taking one third of the width (it's fixed width so I can do simple math to figure that out). The problem is that B should be under A and C, to the left of D. Ideally, B would take up the same amount of space as A and C (two thirds width), but I would even settle for it only taking up only one third width. My array of events looks similar to the following: $events = array( '1030' => array( 'uniqueID1' => array( 'start_time' => '1030', 'end_time' => '1130', ), 'uniqueID2' => array( 'start_time' => '1030', 'end_time' => '1100', ), ), '1045' => array( 'uniqueID3' => array( 'start_time' => '1045', 'end_time' => '1400', ), ), '1330' => array( 'uniqueID3' => array( 'start_time' => '1330', 'end_time' => '1430', ), ), ); My plan is to add some indexes to each event that include how many events it conflicts with (so I can calculate the width) and which position in that series it should be (so I can calculate the left value). However, that doesn't help the B. I'm thinking I might need an algorithm that uses some basic geometry and matrices, but I'm not sure where to begin. Any help is greatly appreciated.

• Property trigger in XAML for IsMouseOver fails to set Border.Background

  I'm currently trying to create a ControlTemplate for the Button class in WPF, replacing the usual visual tree with something that makes the button look similar to the little (X) close icon on Google Chrome's tabs. I decided to use a Path object in XAML to achieve the effect. Using a property trigger, the control responds to a change in the IsMouseOver property by setting the icon's red background. The problem with this is that the trigger just isn't working. Nothing changes in the button's appearance. However, if I remove the Background="Transparent" value from the Border object in the ControlTemplate, the trigger does work (albeit only when over the 'X'). I really can't explain this. Setters for any other properties placed in the borderStyle resource work fine, but the Background setter fails as soon as the default background is specified in the ControlTemplate. Any ideas why it's happening and how I can fix it? I know I could easily replace this code with, for example, a .PNG-based image, but I want to understand why the current implementation isn't working. Thanks! :)

• How do I use JDK 7 on Mac OSX?

  OK. This is a newbie question but I can't figure it out... I would like to use the WatchService API as mentioned in this link: http://download.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/essential/io/notification.html After reading around, I found out that WatchService is part of the NIO class which is scheduled for JDK 7. So, it is in beta form. It's fine. http://jdk7.java.net/download.html has the JDK which I downloaded and extracted. I got a bunch of folders. I don't know what to do with them. Then, I read around some more and found that some nice group of people created JDK 7 as a binary so someone like me can install it easily. It is called Open JDK: http://code.google.com/p/openjdk-osx-build/ So, I downloaded the .dmg file and instal it. Then I open "Java Preference" and see that OpenJDK7 is available. So, now I feel that I can start trying out WatchService API. From the tutorial in the first link, the author gave a .java file to test it out first and make sure that it is running. Here is the link to the file: http://download.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/essential/io/examples/WatchDir.java So, I boot up Eclipse (actually I use STS) and create a new Java project and choose JaveSE-1.7 in the "use an execution environment JRE:". Under the src folder, I copy pasted the WatchDir.java file. And I still see tons of squiggly red lines. All the "import.java.nio.*" are all red and I cannot run it as a Java app. If you read this far, thanks a lot. So, now... What do I need to do? Thanks. EDIT: I actually did not pursue using Java 7 but there are a lot of interest in it and it seems like people keep answering this question. • Unfortunately App stopped when destroying SupportMapFragment

  I have the following problem. I have three fragments which are hosted in a TabHost. When I'm working with the app everything works fine. Now I like to end the app when the user hits the back button. Instead of terminating without errors I get the message Unfortunately App stopped. Then I said to myself something is wrong with the onDestroy() method of the FragmentActivity or with the onDestroyView method() of the Fragment. The problem is I cannot debug the point where the app crash. I get only the error:Fatal signal 11 (SIGSEGV). I then removed one by one each Fragment to identify which fragment causes the error. I could identify the fragment that I named BasicMapFragment. Something is wrong there.   My problem is very simple but I haven't found an efficient implementation yet. Suppose there is a matrix A like this: 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 4 4 2 2 2 0 0 4 4 2 2 2 0 0 0 0 2 2 2 1 1 0 0 0 0 0 1 1 Now I want to find all starting positions of rectangular areas in this matrix which have a given size. An area is a subset of A where all numbers are the same. Let's say width=2 and height=3. There are 3 areas which have this size: 2 2 2 2 0 0 2 2 2 2 0 0 2 2 2 2 0 0 The result of the function call would be a list of starting positions (x,y starting with 0) of those areas. List((2,1),(3,1),(5,0)) The following is my current implementation. • How to ensure structures are completly initialized (by name) in GCC?

  How do I ensure each and every field of my structures are initialized in GCC when using designated initializers? (I'm especially interested in function pointers.) (I'm using C not C++.) Here is an example: typedef struct { int a; int b; } foo_t; typedef struct { void (*Start)(void); void (*Stop)(void); } bar_t; foo_t fooo = { 5 }; foo_t food = { .b=4 }; bar_t baro = { NULL }; bar_t bard = { .Start = NULL }; -Wmissing-field-initializers does not help at all. It works for fooo only in GCC (mingw 4.7.3, 4.8.1), and clang does only marginally better (no warnings for food and bard). I'm sure there is a reason for not producing warnings for designated initializer (even when I explicitly ask for them) but I want/need them. I do not want to initialize structures based on order/position because that is more error prone (for example swapping Start and Stop won't even give any warning). And neither gcc nor clang will give any warning that I failed to explicitly initialize a field (when initializing by name). I also don't want to litter my code with if(x.y==NULL) lines for multiple reasons, one of which is I want compile time warnings and not runtime errors. At least splint will give me warnings on all 4 cases, but unfortunately I cannot use splint all the time (it chokes on some of the code (fails to parse some C99, GCC extensions)). Note: If I'm using a real function instead of NULL GCC will also show a warning for baro (but not bard). I searched google and stack overflow but only found related questions and have not found answer for this specific problem. Is there a better way dealing with this that I have not mentioned? (Maybe other code analysis tool? Preferably something (free) that can be integrated into Eclipse or Visual Studio...)

• Problems with starting windows service on windows xp SP3

  I'm currently facing a problem which I can not resolve and I really don't know what to do anymore. When I'm trying to start the service I receive the message: "The service is started but again also stopped, this because that some of the services will stop if they have nothing to do, for example the performance logs and the alerts service". I've looked into the Windows Logs but nothing is written there which could describe why my service is all the time stopping. I've also tried to fire the windows service via the command prompt which gives me the message: "The service is not started, but the service didn't return any faults.". I've tried to remove all keys which references to my service, which didn't resolve the issue. I've searched on google (maybe not good enough) to find an answer but I didn't found any. I did found some websites which describes what I could do, but all of these suggestions didn't work. This is kinda ** because I do not know where to look. I do not have any error message, i do not have any id which i can use to search on. I really don't know where to start and I hope you guys can help me on this one. Detailed explanation about the windows service OS: Windows XP SP3 .Net Framework: .Net 4.0 Client Profile Language: C# Development environment: Visual Studio 2010 Professional (but Visual Studio 2012 RC is installed) Communications: WCF (Named Pipes), WCF (BasicHTTPBinding) Named Pipes: I have chosen for this solution because I wanted to communicate from a windows service to a windows form application. It worked now for quite some time but suddenly my windows service shuts it self down and I couldn't restart it anymore. There are two named pipes services implemented: An event service which will send any notification to the windows form application and an management service which gives my windows form application the possibility to maintain my windows service. BasicHTTPBinding: The basic http binding makes the connection to a central server. This connection is then used for streaming information from the client to the server. • Figuring out QuadCurveTo's parameters

  Could you guys help me figuring out QuadCurveTo's 4 parameters , I tried to find information on http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/api/javafx/scene/shape/QuadCurveTo.html, but it's hard for me to understand without picture , I search on google about 'Quadratic Bezier' but it shows me more than 2 coordinates, I'm confused and blind now. I know those 4 parameters draw 2 lines to control the path , but how we know/count exactly which coordinates the object will throught by only knowing those 2 path-controller. The problem i am facing is when i scroll downwards the second column which has the horizontal scroll bar is also scrolling downward. I want horizontal scrollbar to be fixed there. as in it should be always fixed there no matter how much i scroll vertically. Much Like Google Spreadsheets: where the first column stays fixed and there's horizontal scrolling on rest of the columns with over vertical scrolling for whole of the data. I cannot used position fixed in the second column. P.S : please no lectures on using div's for making a table structure. I have my own reasons. and its kinda urgent. Thanks in advance.

• iframe 100% height causing vertical scrollbar

  I'm trying to layout a design that has a fixed height header at the top of the screen, and then an iframe below taking up the remaining space. The problem I'm running into is that if you paste the code exactly as seen below, using XHTML Strict, in each browser (tested w/ chrome/safari/ie8) you will see a vertical scroll bar with a few pixels of white space below the div. Doing some experimenting, I found that if I remove the doctype completely it works in safari/chrome, but IE gets even worse, setting the iframe height to 300px or so. If I set the doctype to transitional, it works in safari/chrome but has the same problem as in the strict case for IE8. If I use the HTML5 doctype, it has the same problem as strict in all browsers. Finally, if I remove the iframe in any of these cases, everything is laid out just fine. Anyone have any ideas?

I have a small script running which asks for SOA,NS and A records for the domain in question and sometimes when the TTL expires the DNS fails to get the A records again, a Clear Cache fixes the problem.. • Certificate Trusts Lists in IIS7

  I am trying to enable mutual authentication for my WebService hosted in IIS7. I have the server side cert setup and working but cannot figure out how to get a Certificate Trust List created and setup in IIS7 so that I can require and validate client side certificates. All of my client side certs are signed by my own root cert so I need to create a CTL that contains just my root cert and then have IIS validate client provided certs against the CTL. Can anyone shed some light on how to do this? IIS6 had a UI for assigning a CTL, but I can find nothing similar in IIS7. Update: I have now successfully used MakeCTL in wizard mode to create a CTL with a Friendly Name. However I don't have adsutil support on my IIS7 box so via other posts elsewhere I am trying to use the 'netsh http add sslcert' command to assign the CTL to my site. Before I could use this command I had to remove the existing SSL cert that was assigned to my site for server authentication. Then in my netsh command I specify the thumbprint of that very same SSL cert I removed, plus a made up appid, plus 'sslctlidentifier=MyCTL sslctlstorename=CA'. The resulting command is: netsh http add sslcert ipport=10.10.10.10:443 certhash=adfdffa988bb50736b8e58a54c1eac26ed005050 appid={ffc3e181-e14b-4a21-b022-59fc669b09ff} sslctlidentifier=MyCTL sslctlstorename=CA (the IP addr is munged), but I am getting this error: SSL Certificate add failed, Error: 1312 A specified logon session does not exist. It may already have been terminated. I am sure the error is related to the CTL options because if I remove them it works (though no CTL is assigned of course). Can anyone help me take this last step and make this work? UPDATE 01-07-2010: I never resolved this with IIS 7.0 and have since migrated our app to IIS 7.5 and am giving this another try. Per the response from Taras Chuhay I installed IIS6 Compatibility on my test server and tried the steps he documented using adsutil.vbs (which can also be found here). I immediately ran into this error: ErrNumber: -2147023584 Error trying to SET the Property: SslCtlIdentifier when running this command: adsutil.vbs set w3svc/1/SslCtlIdentifier MyFriendlyName I then went on to try the next adsutil.vbs command documented and it failed with the same error. I have verified that the CTL I created has a Friendly Name of MyFriendlyName and that it exists in the 'Intermediate Certification Authorities\Certificate Trust List' store of LocalComputer. So once again I am at a dead standstill. I don't know what else to try. Has anyone ever gotten CTL's to work with IIS7 or 7.5? Ever? Am I beating a DEAD horse. Google turns up nothing but my own posts and other similar stories. Update 2/23/10 - I've confirmed with Microsoft that this is a bug with IIS 7.5, but it does work with IIS 7. There is a patch associated with this KB that must be applied to Server 2008 R2 machines to enable this functionality. Once that is installed all works flawlessly for me.

We ended up having to move from our house and stay with some friends/family for 6 months, just to get ourselves caught up. (Medical bills, among other issues,etc). So this is where it gets fun. At our friends house, we are staying in the loft setup which is not near the cable modem and wireless router. I have a "hand-crafted" media center running XBMC, an Ubuntu 10.10 Server/Desktop (multi-purpose, very powerful and tons drive space), two working laptops, a between the two of us we have multiple wireless devices/phones. Now our friends Wireless router doesn't have any options for assigning IP addresses, but my router does. My current setup is: Friends Cable Modem -- Friend's Wireless Router -- Ubuntu 10.10 Server -- My Wireless Router (local-link from Friend's wireless (incoming) to sharing connection on ETH0 (outgoing)) -- to all devices. (Wireless Modem, Ubuntu Server that share's it's wireless incoming connection to the ethernet port my Wireless router share's with the rest of the devices). I setup my router to use default settings from my friend's router, using Google's DNS on my router (disabled DNS setup on Ubuntu Server), everything is assigned nicely and runs smooth. My Ubuntu server was given the address 10.42.43.1 (assuming standard from Network-Manager). (On the Ubuntu machine that shares to my wireless router; I have some server apps installed, but mainly just use Samba/NFS/Tangerine action. My problem/goal is that every device has no problem of accessing the internet from my router, the media-center has an assigned ip address, all services from all devices (ZeroConf, Avanhi, Bonjour, GIT, SSH, FTP, Apache2, etc) all work correctly except from my Ubuntu Server (which serves the wireless connection to ETH0 to another Wireless Router). The Ubuntu 10.10 Server/Desktop is not broadcasting anything (the Zeroconf Service Discovery 0.4 Gnome Applet shows the services from the Ubuntu server but no other computers can see them). I can access it from my Media-Center (Running Xbuntu 10.04) if I direct it to 10.42.43.1, no problem. But I cannot access Tangerine (Daapd) and the Samba shares do not show up on any computers for 10.42.43.1 (not in the WORKGROUP which Samba is setup simple and default but I can direct computers to that address and the shares will add except on a damn Windows 7 parition). Is this an issue with how I have my router setup and possible the gateway? An issue with Network-Manager? And issue with my Ubuntu Server/Desktop? I know there is a lot to that, but it's simpler than I probably have explained? Any help would be appreciated. If you need more details, I can provide them. If there is a better way of my attempting this home-network, please let me know. Thanks in advance for the help.

• Apache 2.2 and FastCGI stops responding, warnings, crashes

  I've seen this question posted a few times using a Google search, with no real answers. I have a multi-threaded FastCGI application running with Apache 2.2 on FreeBSD 7.2. There are a few issues with it, and I am unable to really figure out the source of the problem even after poking through a bunch of the mod_fastcgi source code. My FastCGI application gets anywhere from 2 to 15 or so hits per second, and mostly services a back-end API (the majority of web server usage is for this, and not actually serving content). Everything seems to work ok under normal conditions, but recently this problem has been becoming worse. It starts out with the FastCGI process manager apparently trying to close unneeded processes, sending them a SIGTERM signal. I catch the signal, clean up some stuff, and exit (by calling exit()) with status code 0. This process seems to result in three log messages in my httpd error log: [Tue Jun 01 14:03:31 2010] [warn] FastCGI: (dynamic) server "/home/program/wwwroot/domains/www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin/program.cgi" (pid 98182) termination signaled [Tue Jun 01 14:03:31 2010] [warn] FastCGI: (dynamic) server "/home/program/wwwroot/domains/www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin/program.cgi" (pid 98182) terminated by calling exit with status '0' [Tue Jun 01 14:03:31 2010] [warn] FastCGI: (dynamic) server "/home/program/wwwroot/domains/www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin/program.cgi" restarted (pid 98294) I am not sure why it says it is restarting the process, but in any case no core dump is ever generated so I do believe it is the FastCGI process manager doing it's thing. This makes sense because it begins to happen after the initial load increase from restarting Apache. Since it's down for a few seconds, it gets hit with a couple of hundred requests over the first few seconds it's running again (sometimes even hitting the upper limit of MAXCLIENTS in Apache), and this seems to be the process manager doing the work of spawning more processes to handle the increased load. So this all seems fine, but here is where things get weird. There are really two problems that I see. First, my multithreaded FastCGI process spawns 25 worker threads, and all seem to be used according to my internal log files (multiple processes are clearly using multiple threads to do work). However it seems that 3 or 4 FastCGI processes is not enough to handle the 5 to 15 hit per second load, even though the requests take about .02s or so to process internally. In order to be at all responsive, it seems I need 50 or more FastCGI processes, leading me to believe that FastCGI does not realize that my program is multithreaded. I've read the documentation at http://www.fastcgi.com/mod_fastcgi/docs/mod_fastcgi.html and do not see any option pertaining to multithreaded-ness, and my internal code is more or less set up just like the examples provided by the FastCGI library. The second problem I am having is that once process termination has happened a bunch of times as above (and seemingly at random), I begin getting a lot of these messages in my error log: [Tue Jun 01 14:06:22 2010] [warn] (32)Broken pipe: FastCGI: write() to PM failed (ignore if a restart or shutdown is pending) The messages occur for about half the hits I get to the server, and it completely kills the responsiveness of my application - it seems FastCGI will look for a working "pipe" until it finds one, and fail to realize that whatever application it is trying to contact is dead. It does still work though, it's just incredibly unresponsive - sometimes taking up to 40 or so seconds to process a request. I recompiled mod_fastcgi with some extra debugging around the point of the error message, and it appears that the error happens when it tries to write() to the application. The call to write() fails with a -1 return code, and sets errno to EPIPE. I am noticing that the issue happens mostly when either a crash occurs in one of the FastCGI processes, or a bunch of them are seemingly terminated by the process manager. I haven't had any core dumps though, except for one, where the backtrace outputted by gdb is just a single call to free() at address 0x0000000000000000 with nothing else in the stack trace, so I don't really know what to make of that. I'm thinking it happens sometime after the SIGTERM signal is caught, maybe some global variable not being cleaned up properly or something.

• ImgBurn fails to burn data CD-R disk due to "Layouts do not match" error

  I have a reoccurring problem with the program ImgBurn. Whenever I try and burn anything to a CD-R using ImgBurn it burns just fine, except for when I go and verify the disk. It tells me that the "Layouts do not match". Windows 7 shows the disk as completely blank. Although, I see on the bottom of the disk it has been written to. I can burn ISO files to DVD-R's just fine. This only seems to happen with CD-R's. The CD-R's I'm using are Memorex Cool Colors 52x CD-R's. I have looked on Google, and it seems like I'm not the only one this happens to. Unfortunately, no one is able to provide an explanation. I have included the log file from the last CD I just burnt.
